Same problem for me. Worked fine yesterday, since I-17 is unplayable.
  2. Good synergy? Absolutely. It's a fast and efficient set, and quite the early bloomer that is strong out of the block.

Possible to softcap S/L? Yup, Claws showed that, and his is a fantastic build, but also quite pricey. I'd say likely a build in the billions...yup that's a B, billions. Some would argue against slotting for defense at all on a /WP toon. Slot for your strengths, build on +HP and regen, throw in + recharge. There's something to be said for that outlook and even with just SO's, you'll be strong all the way to 50. But here's the thing with Willpower, it's about the layers, ungodly regen levels, hassle free endurance/recovery, solid resists and basic defenses for an all around solid secondary. But kick it up a notch or two, if you can get those defenses up to say, the 30's, then you'll be only one small purp insp away from softcapping in those really tough battles and you won't be hit nearly as much just running normal. Now you're a total package.

I took it a step further than that, I softcapped both S/L and E/N (who cares about fire and cold). Now matched with my ungodly regen/recovery and solid resists and I'm practically unstoppable solo. Still try for +HP and regen/recovery and +recharge, but defense is where it's at. Solo you'll be a blender of blades and death that is untouchable. In a group, when things go bad and the team wipes, you'll still be there swinging away and waiting for them to come back from the hospital.

Here is my build, granted its for my Brute, but it should work the same way for you.

As another poster noted, they compared pretty evenly on farm tests. I have both combos at 50 and io'd to the gills and I'd say they're pretty even in farming kill speed.

But theres a noticeable difference in single target damage, which is why I prefer fire.
    Bingo, thats it.

I broke out my ElM/SD last night and hit some council radio missions at +4/x8. There really is something magical about SC and LR with Fireball and even a Thunderstrike thrown in. It's alot of fun. But for some reason I had it set for bosses, and it was killing me to have to drop a boss. The ST target damage was paltry and it too long enough that I'd actually just drop them with a second helping of SC or LR which comes up fast in my build with hasten.

My FM/SD scrapper though, tears through spawns with bosses with ease. FSC may be the only AoE you take from your primary, but with its damage, radius and quick recharge it's pretty badass. And any Lt.'s or Bosses still standing after a SC + FB or FSC + FB + FSC is quickly dispatched with GFS and Cremate. And I wouldn't think of taking my ElM/SD scrapper up against an EB or AV solo, that would be painfully slow.
  4. Well, shield is the obvious choice, but for some reason you've made one and don't want to make a second one...crazy. My second choice would be Willpower, but thats true of just about all scraps I've made. Then for a concept driven Demon scrapper it's hard to argue against /DA or /FA, while not top performers they'll be fun and great with the theme you're shooting for.

Trust me, you don't want Melt Armor, you want Char and Fire Blast. Fire Blast isn't that bad of a power to throw into a chain if you need it and it's also great to throw at runners. Put a four spot of Basilisks Gaze in Char, a six spot of Thunderstrikes in Fireblast then you'll be ready to slot Fireball with Posi's.
  5. I've battled with this for a few respecs now on my Claws/WP lycan huge modeled Brute. I like eviscerate, I can generally hit quite a few guys with it and it follows up spin nicely for maximum AoE +4/x8 carnage. BUT, it looks ridiculous and doesn't go at all with my concept/theme of a hulking werewolf brute. I hate shockwave, it's huge KB totally works against everything I'm trying to do with my tight AoE circles and RTTC from willpower. BUT, it totally looks awesome and so puts the exclamation point in my Broot Smash!!!

In my final build I went with Shockwave, concept > performance. Hell, I've lost interest in my FM/SD scrapper despite him being chock full of win and awesomesauce because I can't come up with a costume/concept I'm happy with.
  6. When it comes to Elec/SD scrappers, most go with either of two paths, grabbing the body mastery epic for more regen and better endurance/recovery tools or those who know the magic that is Fireball. Either way, it's a tight build and you likely won't have room for OWtS and/or Aid Self/Other. Either way, you'll likely want Hasten, keeping LR and SC up as often as possible. There are some expensive and tight builds out there that have them all, but for the most part you're going to have to play with mids and leave some stuff out that you just don't have room for. I'm of the opinion that OWtS is a great power and I'd love it on all my shielders, sadly it doesn't usually make it into the final builds.
  7. Good loking build, kudos! I just can't believe it wouldn't be better with Fireball!

Yeah, yeah, I know, I could drop Fire Ball in favor of Conserve Power, Physical Perfection and Energy Torrent, and pick up Aid Self instead of Health/Stamina. It would totally work, and be more survivable, and a LOT more survivable with no inspirations. I know, I know.

But Fire Ball! I mean, c'mon. You can't make me skip Fire Ball. That would make the baby Jesus cry.

So dropping Aid Self seemed like the only sensible move.

    Phalanx Fighting

I tend to have a fairly sporadic schedule due to work/kids/life so merit farming through TF's doesn't fit in for me. I love AE though and will do a couple runs a night through some player created missions. Once I get a couple thousand tickets I'll do the random 10-14 bronze recipe rolls. I just delete the junk but craft the good ones and usually end up with a Steadfast Unique, a couple KB protction recipes, the odd kismet 6%er, maybe an Erad 4 banger or a Regen unique. I'll generally make 20-50 million a run, easy peasy.
  10. Looking at that last build, there are a number of things you could do a bit differently that would help you out quite a bit.

Generally I only 3-slot LoTG's in my defense powers. You're not getting that much benefit for the bang of that fourth slot in endurance or defense. Plus the first three set IO buffs are the good ones. You could take the fourth slot from those and throw another slot into your primary attacks. A proc or more accuracy/damage/recharge would just make those attacks that much stronger.

If your going to 4-slot endurance and QR, go ahead and do it with all p-shifters. That will gain you an easy 5% more recovery just from those two slots without hurting your endurance that bad.

I generally don't do much past single slotting Indomitable Will. One endurance reducer or a LoTG +recharge if you can swing it and thats all you need.

And last thing, I prioritize defense a bit differently than the above posters. More defense added with your ungodly regen and solid S/L resistance will make you an unstoppable killing machine. Shoot for at least the mid 30's in S/L and E/N and you will notice a big difference in how often your hit, and you'll also be one small purple insp away from be capped when you need it in tougher battles. Look into replacing those crushing impacts with smashing haymakers (cheap but effective) or Kinetic Combats (will cost you an arm and leg and your firstborn).
  11. Like you said, Weave won't be doing you much good, and it's quite the endurance hog to boot, so if you don't need it I'd skip it. I always like CJ for an extra spot if I've got the room for it, plus even if you don't like/need the BoTZ pre/post nerf, you can still put a Kismet unique, Winter's Frost unique and a LoTG +recharge in it. Thats what I usually do.

Looking at your build, you could move the kismet out of where its at and put it in CJ and then fully 6-slot FF with Red's. that gets you to where you can free up some slots elsewhere as you will be that much over the 45% target.
  12. It's a great combo for sure, and an early bloomer for sure. As soon as I got spin I was ready to up the difficulty slider so I had more guys to shred. By 20 and once you have QR, focus and RttC slotted you really start to shine and can up the difficulty slider even more.

I went a little overboard with mine though and layed in some defense to add to the ungodly regen and solid resists and made him practically unstoppable. I really needed another notch or two on my difficulty slider as x8 wasn't enough and I had to go grab multiple spawns to keep buisy. You don't want to see that build though, softcapping a /WP toon redside hurt alot.
  13. Here is my FM/WP scrapper with capped S/L and E/N. Should be simular to what your trying to do. And yea, you've gotta 6-slot those attacks your using KC's in, they are painfully underslotted if you don't.

Yea, thats probably a topic for another thread, and you can't go wrong with fire melee. I'm sure your refering to Shockwave's kb, because I had the same concerns, but after trying it it doesn't hurt you that much. At least not how I play, if I've got a dozen guys fighting me and I bat four of them out of my RTTC range, it's not that big of a hit to my regen. =) And this is just my opinion, but Spin > FSC, but I love them both.

Glad it's working well for you. I went claws/wp brute doing the same things I did with my /wp scrapper and the guy really is a beast. Willpower is such a nice set, it starts strong even with little investment, and if you can layer in some defense on top of the regen/recovery and resistance it only gets stronger.

Does Fireball's AoE make up for no Cremate?

Shred's build looks good too but I'll never get that PvP IO lol

Basically I want to use this toon as my Single Target attacker (and since I already have him at 50 it saves me the time to lvl him up), if I want to go AoE I have a soft capped Elec/Shield scrapper.

Thanks for the input so far!
My fm/wp scrapper is my main and I use him for everything, TF's, grouping, story arcs, solo, farming and keep my difficulty slider set to at least +2/x8 on it all. To that end I wanted to be as durable as possible and still manage a decent enough attack chain and have some AoE to throw out. I can solo AV's and Pylons, but I'm not doing it in any record time.

In your case, it sounds more like you'd like to have a solid attack chain, and to do that it seems like all I've seen posted means you need cremate in there and probably a bit more recharge. I know somewhere here in the last few pages on the scrapper board was a thread about what attack chain and recharge was needed for optimal fire melee builds. I'd start there and then work on getting your defenses to the mid 30's and that should be a pretty mean fm/wp scrapper.
  17. On my /WP toons I generally try to get as close to the softcap as I can for S/L and E/N, I generally don't worry as much about F/C as I see less of that in who I fight. To that end I generally only 3 or 4-slot Erads in my PBAoE's and then either throw in a 3-slot of cleaving blow or a 2-slot of scirrocos to round it out.

And Ninja run + combat jumping + hurdle works for me. If I need vertical movement I carry a jetpack.
  18. I went with the higher defense / lower recharge that Princess Darkstar was talking about and I'm very pleased with the build. When running solo I'm as sturdy as they come and still do some pretty serious damage, it's basically easy mode, all win. Softcapped to S/L and E/N, 50% resistance to S/L, ungodly regen and recovery (despite running just about every toggle known to scrappers), and the pyre epic for a FSC and Fireball combo on large spawns.

  19. Here's my Hover Blaster. Currently has hit the ranged defensive softcap, but with the upcomming nerf to BoTZ sets it will fall a bit. Shouldn't be too drastic though, I never get hit, and when things go real bad (happens on PuG TF's more often than I'd care for) I can pop on PFF and FoN and fly a bit and I live during wipes.

  20. I actually took the snipe and stun from the primary so I could 6-slot them with Thunderstrikes and Stupefy to get me ranged defense. I skipped Explosive Arrow because you can't slot it with Thunderstrikes (and because I hate KB and so do most teams, I like my targets as close together as possible for RoA). I also took the attacks from Energy for the same reason, I could 6-slot it with Mako's for more ranged defense. Plus, it's hard to hover blast on some maps, so the attacks + the KB means I can destroy anything that gets too close to me when I'm grounded.

    So basically Mako's + Thunderstrikes + Stupify = 45% Capped Ranged Defense = Win.

Makes for a tight build though with all those 6-slotters, but on the plus side its cheap sets.
  21. Here's my Claws/WP brute, you might like this build a bit better than yours. Capped S/L and E/N defenses, same choices from the primary, but I took SoW instead of Resurgance as I like better survival options as opposed to death options (I don't die).

  22. My suggestion, why not shoot for BOTH defense and resists?

After seeing a huge difference in surviveability on my willpower scrapper by adding in a good bit of defense on top of WP's already decent resists, I went back to an old shelved Fire tank and played with him. I went a bit overboard and capped his defenses to S/L which when added to his resists made him unstoppable. But really, if you can get your defenses to the 30% range (no that hard to do) then you'll be one purple insp away from the cap.

Then a resist based scrapper will really shine, layer in all your secondairies abilities, strong resists, decent defense, self-heal, endurance management tools, you'll have it all.

Or just roll another shielder, thats what I always do, it's up to you.
  23. I've got a Claws/WP brute, he's my first redside toon and it's pretty much been easy-mode since he made it to the low teens. You get spin at 6 and then it's off to the Fateweaver to raise your difficulty slider because you'll need more bad guys to chew up. Rise to the Challenge at 16 and then quick recovery following that and by the low 20's you'll be ready for x8 on the difficulty slider. QR + Stamina means you'll have to work REAL hard to ever have endurance problems. Plus if you can layer in some defense to your already ungodly regen capacity you'll be nigh on unstoppable. Mine will be softcapped to S/L and E/N by 50 with a solid attack chain. And yea, Spin is just THAT good.
  24. With mine, I generally set my slider at +2/X8 with NO bosses. Bosses slow me down because I don't have much ST damage output at all. I'll run in and hit chain induction, giving AAO a chance to build up then fire off Lightning Rod + Thunderstrike and then hit any runners with fireblast. Then run to the next spawn and repeat the Chain Induction, then Shield Charge + Fireball. Wash, rinse, repeat...nothing stands up to that kind of damage. Keep a few blues and greens handy and it's all cake.
  25. I'm not sure how attached you are to hasten and SS, but you could drop them and add Manuevers and Tactics from the leadership pool and grab yourself more defense. Three slot all of your LoTG sets and then another set in Manuevers including the +recharge one. Slotting tactics with Gaussains will get you some more defense as well.
