Quote:Yeah but the Japanese take the "manufactured" part of that description a little too seriously.Except he isn't "Disney" and neither is that movie, it's MTV which is Viacom.
I may not like the concept of manufactured teen stars in the US but we have nothing on Japan. -

With the exception of Lone Wolf and Cub this is a Marvel/DC list so others need not apply. Otherwise I'd say that the revelation in Elementals that Morningstar's boyfriend, Eric Chessman, was Shapeshifter beats out a lot of the events on the list.

For you the death of Superman was a shocking event. For me it was Tuesday.
I remember the long line of people at my local comic shop who were there specifically to buy the death of Superman issue. I had to roll my eyes when I heard one guy going on about how he also had the book where they killed Robin and how valuable he figured they were both going to be. Almost couldn't resist asking him if he knew that the dead Robin wasn't the original, had been killed off because he had been an unpopular character, that there was already another Robin to take his place, and that as soon as DC figured they'd milked all the money they could from Superman's death they'd bring the character back to life.
My favorite bit about the death of Superman though was the bagged collector's edition with the armband, etc. that hadn't been deacidified so if you opened the bag you killed any special value it had but if you didn't open the bag it would decay faster than normal, also killing the value.
Really, a lot of these "shocking" moments really weren't that shocking. -
I have a feeling that we'll eventually find out that Crowley is working with one or more angels. Crowley got Sam out of the cage and the angel(s) brought Samuel back.

That's the same trailer that was released several months ago isn't it? Can't say I'm particularly looking forward to this movie despite being a fan of the character.

For a while I watched Ninja Warrior on a regular basis. Loved that show but got tired of all the crap they'd overlay it with. I didn't care about what they considered big headlines and I wanted to watch Ninja Warrior, not the viral video of the moment. Not to mention their big *** station ID bug that often obscured the action. It was like they didn't believe I actually wanted to watch the show I'd tuned in the watch. Eventually I got frustrated and just stopped watching G4.

Yeah, and keep in mind someone has been keeping that Mustang in the paper and not letting just anyone have it. And she knew about that device and that Dad had reservations about using it on Chuck, suggesting she may have been in contact with him relatively recently. What are the odds that Chuck could find his mother but his Dad couln't?
-
-
I can't see them making Ellie an Intersect while she's pregnant. We don't actually know that the thing in the Mustang is an Intersect. We just know that it's the same kind of high-tech device like those seen in Orion's lair but we know Orion had devices other than the Intersect. He knew his daughter wasn't a spy. Giving her an Intersect would have just been putting her in danger. Whatever that thing is, I imagine it's intended to protect her in some fashion.
I can't see the device Mary used on Chuck being something to remove the Intersect. If his father had had something like that, he would have used it on Chuck originally when he was trying to remove the first Intersect. On the other hand it would have made perfect sense for him to have put his files into a new Intersect and Mary, knowing what Volkov intended to do, would use said Intersect on Chuck. -
Gotta say I enjoyed last night's Chuck. Timothy Dalton was good. It'll be interesting to see where things go from here. I have a feeling that that was another Intersect with all of Orion's files that Chuck's mom used on him and he couldn't flash afterwards because his mind was busy processing the new data.

I caught an episode on Hulu the other day. I was not impressed.

There's a difference between ridicule and insults. For example, the Elvira's Not A Witch video is ridicule. What Smallville is doing is just being insulting. And I'll venture to speculate that if the shoe were on the other foot and it was the other end of the political spectrum they were taking pot shots at, many who argue that there's nothing wrong with taking sides would, instead, denounce it as propaganda.
-
It's not wrong to take sides but it is wrong to be insulting about it which is what Smallville is doing and not for the first time. Just because you disagree with someone's political views doesn't mean they shouldn't be treated with respect. And from a business sense it's bad business to risk alienating half of your potential customers but since it's Smallville's last season perhaps they don't care about their ratings any more.
-
It's hard leaving politics out of the discussion when they're part of the show. The people behind Smallville need to learn that when you insult one half of the political spectrum, you insult one half of your potential audience which is rarely a good idea. They ought to try watching Blue Bloods to see how to present balanced looks at political issues without taking sides.

I remember going to summer camp after seeing the movie and there was another kid there who had read the novelization but hadn't seen the movie yet. He kept pestering me with questions about Biggs and all I could say was, "Who the hell is Biggs?" Then he'd tell me about this scene and I'd be all, "What are you talking about? That's not in the movie." Nice to finally see the scene in question.

It could have something to do with Comcast but this isn't the first Syfy show to have a wonky online schedule. They wouldn't release the latest Warehouse 13 episode until 8 days after its initial airing though in that case I assumed it was because they wanted viewers to catch one of the repeat airings on Syfy. That was annoying too since I missed an episode and didn't want to watch the next until I'd seen the one I missed and couldn't remember when the repeats were on so wound up watching the last half of the season online as a result.
-
Interesting. The latest episodes weren't there when I went to Hulu on Tuesday.

So, due to a dispute with New Zealand actors' unions, production of 'The Hobbit' may be moved to England or eastern Europe.
I'm guessing this is just a bargaining chip to producers and WB are using to get what they want.
It could be a bargaining chip but the studio may also have decided to make an example of this case, showing the unions that now is not the time to pull a stunt like this. -
NBC seems to be screwing around with the online showing of all of it's TV series which is really annoying since I share a TV with someone who has different tastes than I do, don't have a DVR, and so often have to catch shows online. Starting this week I had to watch Chuck on nbc.com instead of Hulu. Someone also recommended that I check out Chase, which is on at the same time as Castle, and again I had to watch it on nbc.com instead of Hulu. Finally I discover that I can't watch Stargate Universe online at all unless I want to turn to torrents which I won't do. Which probably means they've lost me as a viewer because I don't care about the show enough to remember to tune in 30 days from now.

I don't know. Most of the fictional parents listed here are better than real world parents like Andrea Yates and Susan Smith. Seems to me that there have to be much worse fictional parents.

Had to go with Brainiac 5.

Obscure celebrity is kind of a contradiction. I'm going to go with a couple of people who aren't obscure in the geek/nerd community but outside of it I suspect you'd get more than a few "who?" responses to their names and then someone who is obscure but has a very well known, if not A-list, alter ego.
I think it would be fun to hang out with Bruce Campbell, Felicia Day, and Cassandra Peterson. -

A pet peeve of mine is people who don't even slow down much less stop to check for traffic before going right on red. I've seen a lot of very near accidents because of it.
