    Granite question

What no one seems to have brought up in this thread is that no matter whether you are soft capped or not, whether it matters or not, and what powers and sets you did or did not use to do it, ONE THING REMAINS:

You're still playing a Stone tank and it's gonna be no fun no matter how much defense you have.

But just for a moment let's pretend: What the hell is killing you THROUGH GRANITE that won't STILL kill you with soft capped defense?

    • Remodel Reform Essence so that it has a healing aura component that works like the Empathy/Radiation AoE Heal, thus leaving Restore Essence to heal the PB by a large amount of HP and the team around it by a modest amount of HP.

    • Add a self-stacking -5% Res effect to each PB attack power, across all forms, but with a ceiling of -15% Res. If the PB uses Chance for -Res in their slotting, that effect will stack on top of the normal -Res so essentially PB's could reach -35% Res in some cases.

    • Replace Glowing Touch with a location-based pet that buffs endurance recovery and overall defense for everyone around it but the PB itself. The buffs are minor and cannot be enhanced but the pet itself cannot be attacked and is on a long cool-down that can be brought down with -Recharge slotting.
Considering that Warshades have the edge on PB's in the DPS department, but it is still quite difficult for a PB to compete as a Tanker/Healer AT, I'll gladly take any one — or all, pretty please? — of the proposed changes in a heartbeat!

How'bout you guys? What do you think?

I LOVE the AoE heal idea.

I like the -Res but it's too much. Instead, just add a simple 1% -Res debuff to all PB attacks that already have the -Def debuff. Except Photon Seekers, give that a -10% Res debuff.

But DON'T you TOUCH my Glowing Touch! How about this, give Glowing Touch a set of accompanying buffs similar to O2 Boost. How about Hold Protection, Recovery Debuff Resistance, Tohit Debuff Resistance, and +Perception?

Even assuming I completely ignore pools, I can't actually take all the powers from my two sets. So what should I be skipping?

You can skip the Foe Teleport power. You can skip one of the first two attacks. You can skip Quasar. You can skip the self rez or the phase shift (although, I like them both). The only pool power you really need is Hasten.

that's my build, Hasten and all my WS powers except Ebon Eye, Starless Step, and Quasar.

    Hurdle, Yum!

Anyone else looking forward to Dwarf with Hurdle?
  6. I like that idea.

Hopefully, Castle will do something like: slight hp cap increase, partly unsuppressed hide, and a pve-only offensive debuff added to AS.
  7. This is what I put together.

This is not a suggestion of how to change yours. They're vastly different.

You focused a lot on pets. I don't really like pets that much, I focused on defense and aoe damage.

This build is over 45% to Range, Melee, AoE, AND Psi.

Nearly as tough as a tank, with excellent ranged damage, wide area coverage and full mez protection.

The only reason I have both mez passives is because it was easier to get the extra slot for knockback protection that way than by sacrificing an actual slot.

Again, I'm not really recommending this build for anyone, but it has what I want for my personal playstyle. There remains the possibility that I'll tweak it some more before completing it.

    Critque my Bane

I would slot a damage set in Bash. You don't have an actual attack chain the way you've set it up.
  9. I reinstalled Windows and CoH and Mids and now I can't find the i19 patch that was made for Mids, can someone post the link or point me in the right direction?
  10. why can't you remain uninterrupted? You have Placate and Hide, you can get capped AoE defense just like any other stalker, and drop aggro from a single target.
  11. My vote is for raising the HP cap to 1900 or 2000 and adding to AS either more damage or a debuff THAT ONLY EFFECTS EB/AV/GM level mobs.

Also, add more content with EB/AV/GM level mobs approaching Hamidon in toughness. With a stacked buff/debuff team even the hardest mobs in the game (except Hamidon) take under a minute to kill. We need some end bosses that take several minutes even on the best teams but that grant rewards worthy of the time invested.

Additionally, we need WORTHWHILE rewards on the existing hard mobs such as Lusca, the Arachnos Flyer, etc.
  12. I recently resubbed and played for a month on my family's computer, but I still can't get it to run on my machine, even though it has in the past. I took a break for the end of i16 and all of i17. The game ran fine on my box back then and now it does not run almost at all.

city of heroes crashes instantly when I try to open a number of specific screens, including:

    character id
new character name registry (this prevents me from making new characters)
contacts (this prevents me from taking missions)
    super group registrar

the game also crashes less predictably: if I start activating some powers, not instantly, but after a few attacks; after teleporting around a bit; playing with graphics settings a bit; possibly other times. Nothing that indicates a pattern other than the aforementioned crashing at specific screens. These crashes, while not specifically predictable, happen so much that it is impossible to play the game more than a few minutes without crashing.

I've been talking with support trying to solve the problem. They've been very helpful but nothing has worked so far.

the client crashes have often shared in common the following error message:

    The crash occured in atioglxx.dll

I know my motherboard is very old and as a result I am running a fairly old graphics card as well. However, I've run other games recently with no problem including WoW and Spore. My memory has all passed tests. I have updated graphics drivers to the most recent version, including removing all previous drivers and running a driver cleaner.

Here is my cohHelper file and hijackthis log, and the crashlog from a client crash that happened when trying to load the character name registry screen. Please tell me if there's any other information I can provide. I appreciate any help anyone can give me. I'm definitely getting desperate, I really did want to resub, but I can't afford to buy a completely new machine right now.

*EDIT* Looking at the CoHHelper file, I notice that those are NOT what my graphics settings ingame look like, I have things much lower in detail, effects, physics, etc.

If I recall correctly, 2 SO recharge reducers will cause Active Defense to overlap slightly, but 3 will cause enough overlap to give you a small cushion against slows.

I don't have a Brute shield user at this time. Normally I set Active Defense to auto trigger by control+left clicking the icon so that it is always on, and I don't have to think about it.

But my Brutes normally set Brawl to auto trigger to help build Fury better. If you do that then you have to pay attention to when Active Defense is recharged and fire it as soon as possible.

It is also important to note that the Defense Debuff Resistance in Active Defense is both slottable and stacks with itself.

Hasten+3 Hamidon Origin Membrane Exposure enhancements will give you near perma capped DDR on an otherwise typically slotted Shield toon.

    3. Boost Range also doesn't really work thematically. I'd suggest a third melee attack (ideally with a control/knockback component) or maybe an AoE Sleep (i.e. Poison Gas Arrow without the -dam but with a shorter recharge).

um...yea, whatever, those powers are perfect for such a set.

It's probably more accurate to say that BRUTES are better for FIRE, than to say that Fire is better for Brutes.

    This is untrue.

Shields, just like SR, is capable of capping DDR.

It's certainly a bit squishier for Brutes and Scrappers. Shield Tanks are as good as any other Tank.

It is definitely true however that Shields benefits HIGHLY from endgame IO builds. My Tank is soft capped to all positions and never runs out of endurance. She only dies if I go afk (and even then she can last a good long time without me).

  20. I came up with an appropriately Blastery redesign for Trick Arrow.

    It looked something like this:

    Entangling Arrow
    Flash Arrow
    Glue Arrow
    Ice Arrow
    Build Up
    Arrow Stab
    Bow Smash
    Boost Range
    Oil Patch Arrow

Arrow Stab is a fast melee attack, Bow Smash is a slow melee attack. Oil Patch Arrow is Oil Slick Arrow but smaller. Order and details of power strength and recharge, etc, would be negotiable, I'm sure.
  21. Increase HP cap to about 1900 or 2000.

    That is all.
  22. The ingame blurbs for Kinetic Melee seem to actually call the set Kinetic Attack. Maybe that'll help?
  23. My memory of Conserve Power>Energize is thus:

It was changed to a different power specifically because making it a heal while calling it Conserve Power would be breaking the cottage rule.

Getting rid of a power and replacing it with something completely different doesn't break the cottage rule. Naming it the same thing and having it change drastically does.

Hence, you could change Grounded to a self rez without breaking the cottage rule if you no longer called it Grounded. Call it Jumpstart. No cottage rule issue.

EDIT: Not that I would support such a change.

As it is, it provides a balance that should make dwarf still an easier better bet for mez protection and defense (with the loss of offense).

    eh, no thanks

I'd much, MUCH, rather use Dwarf as my standard mez protection, use Lightform in extremem situations and only occasionally have to deal with a crash, thanks
