  1. I recently did a piece that was supposed to have splash page comic feel, which could also easily be a cover page.

    First Contact

My active queue slots are full right now, but that will change in another week or two. So maybe if you'd like I can do one of your later issues? PM or contact me via the site if you're interested ^.^
  2. I know I've seen people who do wallpapers on DA, but I can't remember specifically =/

It may or may not be tricky to have this done since you'd have to get permission from several artists. I've made a desktop out of my work before, but that was a snap because I still had my working Photoshop file with all the layers, so I could move around the subject and play with the background to make it a good image for a desktop wallpaper.
  3. Its hard for me to estimate total times (I could bother to keep track a few times, but that makes way too much sense) because pieces can be so different. I can estimate how long pencils/line work/coloring will take from certain points. I also don't work solidly on pieces straight through because I find it keeps my creativity at full tilt to put most of my time into one piece, but take breaks to work on other pieces.

This piece was the second slot in my queue, so I worked on it secondarily to another piece (which happens to be a group piece). I guess if I HAD to estimate.... if I had worked on just this piece straight through... 2-3 weeks? If I have very specific guidelines for the piece (posing/placement/layout), that can take anywhere from a few days to a week off the total time.

As far as a four panel actual comic book looking thing, no clue whatsoever! I haven't been asked to do anything like that, so I really wouldn't want to hazard a guess. Doing comic layouts is a beast in and of itself because you're practically like a movie director and each scene will need its own thoughts as to angles and placements and perspectives.

    FREEEEEEEEEDOOOOOM!!! Exclusively.

Anyone else from around here on Freedom? I swear I feel like the only one.
  5. Thanks for all the nice comments everyone ^.^

I did enjoy this piece, and it went by super-fast because I can just about draw Frost with my eyes closed at this point.

    Soul,

    I'm communicating with Gill now....

Did he indicate if he knew what was happening here? I would be curious to know if he got word.

I'm also curious about this, so if its ever publicly known (I'm not advocating people relay private messages or anything), do tell.

    Pretty art yea!

Oooooh, that's so sweet. I love it!

I'm still doing the one I said I would do, half because I said I would do it and I do what I say, and half because I was really interested in the piece anyhow.

As Battlewraith stated, I don't feel its taking business away from MMOART because I'm not getting paid, and Dark Ether can still get his piece (or money back) from them and have mine as well. Doesn't bother me any. I'm not going to sign up for anyone else's at this point, though. I can see where it would be crossing a line if more were to continue. Like I said... I made a promise to do a piece and it will get done.

If I really want to rationalize it, its always been my intent once my site got going to do free pieces from time to time, the whole deal print and all. Random surprise commissions for people who caught my attention. This is just going to end up being the first one ^.^

Agreed, I had no plans to take Ms. Frost out of my queue, unless I'm explicitly requested to do so.

^ooooh, don't I sound smart with that sentence!!!

Yeah, not being dead is a good thing ^.^

Sounds like they're trying to get back on track the best way they can. I hope the "reboot" goes smoothly.
  11. I'm suddenly reminded of Chasing Amy and the classic "You're a tracer" scene....

I think before 3D came around, inkers caught this same kind of flack.
  12. I've refused a commission because of subject matter that I don't do, but I don't think I could bring myself to say no because of a horrible costume. I would be really tempted.... but I'm just too nice.

There would be much headsmashing/facepalming during the artistic process.

I kind of see this as a movement that will stick around for a bit (at least I hope so). Maybe the others aren't claimed now, but if we keep the thread active, they eventually will be. I know I would gladly take on more right now if I wasn't already as committed as I can be. Once it can be in a reasonable time frame, I'll do another unclaimed piece.

I'm just trying to be careful about time so we don't have a thread like this about my site...

As to ownership, intellectual property will always be different from real property, which is why copyright laws exist. Its harder to value, but easy to illegally profit from. You also don't get to move into your house without a contract. The builder is agreeing to give you ownership, just like an artist COULD, but that doesn't generally happen.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Right. And that's what I was saying: As art director of a small magazine in Minnesota, we would only commission pieces where we had full rights, so this wasn't ever an issue. Photographs, on the other hand, were generally purchased either from a stock photo supplier or bought under First Rights contracts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's understandable for a magazine. For commissions like these, I think you would be hard pressed to find an artist who won't at least hold onto their copyrights for commercial usage protection.

But like I said... CONTRACTS! Live by them, good for all parties.
  15. Oooooh, I get it. Was it something that could only be posted at HF because of the content? If not, then I can understand. I wouldn't want "clean" work there either. Its understandable that an artist would only want certain types of exposure.

  16. I would like one for exactly 17,927 page views. Down with even numbers!!

That is quite gorgeous though.... just lovely.
  17. I think some of it would depend on your contract. I have terms that have to be agreed to when you submit a request form to me. In mine, I state that I'm fine with posting, but I MUST be expressly credited for the work. I also protect my commissioners by agreeing to not sell prints of work that you have commissioned (just seems unfair to me, dunno how other artists are).

Wish I could be more helpful, but I would kind of like to know if there's a legal precedent for this too if it hasn't been addressed by any sort of contract. Terms of commissioning are good for both the artist AND the buyer.

Edit: It seems in the realm of possibility to me that an artist can say that their work is for personal enjoyment only and not for public display.
  18. Oooooh, gorgeous! Very Revolutionary Girl Utena. I wish we could have outfits just like that >.<

Strange, but I never noticed his butt. Or the buildings. Or the blimp. Dunno why...

    His nipples, I know.
  20. I went to check my page and noticed something like 10 new deviations in a short time...

What an explosion of sexy kitty yumminess ^.^

Weeeeee, love it! The second version is my favorite.

As I said on DA, Doug is just an awesome guy.
  22. Indeed, the lighting coming from below really makes this piece. Great job, Juggy!

Yeah, that's my problem, too. From what they were saying, this should be customizable, but I can't figure how at all. The only customizable message thing is the folders (or just turning things off). I HATE the order they put the message page in. HATE IT.
