Can you provide pics of the "other" sort of club you visit in return?

They do not allow flash photography....

And its OK, Frost. I never expect anything other than total and complete failure from you! =D

Uuummm.... probably a sampling of anything would be good. Its for a commission and my options are open. Not sure which part will strike an idea ^.^

Can any of you nice duckies provide some good screens of Pocket D for me? I don't have any as I tend to patronize the "other" sort of club That and I have a bunch of things up and going right now and don't feel like restarting to go into Windows and then waiting for game updates.

    Thaaaaaaanks in advance!
  5. GREAT expressions, and I really like that angle.

You do seem to know who to hit up for the winning commissions!
  6. I wish you the best of luck and hope you can get the ball rolling. I personally ADORE steampunk themes and like to see more stuff out there with it.

Just wanted to explain why (at least I think why), your reception was night and day between the forums.
  7. I read your other thread, and the one post about the "odd" reception here, and I think I'll explain what I think has happened and why your request has the artists here running in terror.

You wouldn't believe how many times artists get requests for free art for projects. Or the promise of future payment. Or even worse "you'll get famous for it and/or practice". Yes, I enjoy artwork or I wouldn't be working towards a degree in Illustration. But my time is also worth something to me, as it is to any artist with enough skill to give you good concept sketches. I'M putting a lot of money into my skill between studies and even just the SUPPLIES (you get what you pay for in art supplies, and it adds up), so I do expect compensation if someone wants my work.

This isn't to say I'll never do work for free, or that you won't find an artist who will. Right now, 2 out of 5 of the pieces in my queue are free. The strings are... I don't always have time to do free pieces and the person getting them doesn't always get the same level of input as a paid commission.

80% of artists (especially in the game/comic world) have sunk a lot of time and effort into little pet projects that ended up just being a big source of frustration and a money drain. Your OP sounded exactly like another one of those. So maybe others see it as an odd reception here, but its because you're talking to people who actually do make money from their work and are gun-shy of this situation.
  8. I think your clouds came out really great. I just get worried when people start thinking the use of reference is bad (Adam Hughes has had a fine rant or two about this as well). But drawing without looking isn't what makes your work so special, its the great use of colors and the personal spin you're putting into the piece. AND the fact that you put the effort into doing the studies and gathering all the references. So I would wear the work you did looking at the real thing and painting it with beautiful results as the real badge of honor ^.^
  9. I loooooves that.

But I have a question. OK, when the crap did it become a BAD thing to use reference, or are people assuming reference means you traced it? Honestly, if you never look at what you're learning to draw/paint/sketch/whatever.... exactly how are you going to know what it looks like?

I have to take Basic Photography as a requirement for graduation for my Illustration degree. Why? Because artists should learn how to work a camera to shoot their references. If I was doing a piece with like... a neat forest in the twilight in the background, you can bet I'd go down to the nature trails at the local park at dusk so I could know what I'm working with....

Sorry for ranting (and this is NOTHING against LD's piece because it wins at life), but I'm seeing this "no reference used" as a badge of honor lately, and I just don't get it.
  10. If you're as dedicated to this idea as you say, you should be dedicated enough to earn up some money to pay for some artwork and whatnot so you have something to pitch. You're not going to find an awful lot of people willing to throw money and all at you with just an idea.

Dedication takes grueling work. Even taking on a part-time late-hour job for the fundage to get this thing brought to life. As has been mentioned before.... game development is SERIOUS money. And it can SERIOUSLY lose money.

Basically, if all you can rely on is the charity of others, what exactly are you putting in?

Juggy has given me permission to sell the masks. So i will most likey make a limited run of a half dozen or so.

I just realized that the only thing more disturbing than a kid in this mask at Halloween is.... several kids in this mask at Halloween.

    .....

    *bolts door*

(as a side note, I hope you get a bunch of customers from this, because you DEFINITELY deserve it. Freaking awesome work!)
  12. That is exquisite work!

That being said, if a small child wearing that shows up at my door this Halloween, they are promptly getting the door slammed on their face and the authorities will be alerted. The image of that on a tiny body is.... disturbing.
  13. I do respond well to bribery....

    I'll actually start using this thread soon enough. Just so happened that as soon as I got free time, people noticed my free commission slots and kind of filled them up ^.^;;
  14. As it should be ^.^

Actually.... Frost can vouch for this behavior as well....

Anyway, sorry to threadjack... again (I think I did it before because "skinvitational" is now my favorite word)
  15. No... my husband would pretty much agree with that. I twist nipples with reckless abandon.

For me, I think the collar pattern around his neck signifies either femininity or bondage - not sure why those two are linked in my mind though.

Well that takes the discussion in whole new directions now, doesn't it? ^.^
  17. The search tool is your friend.
  18. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with. I'd join, but I'm kinda sucky with the costume creator. You guys blow me away.

Baron Von Gegenzeit is neither british nor a time traveller, but he's got a large gun and a very expensive suit. Look at that facial hair!

This description made me lawl and I like the design. I think I'm gonna do up a pencil piece of this guy next.
  20. Ooooh.... fine....

*erases rough sketch* Clothed it is.

There there *pat pat* I'll host another one in the future, so everyone (even the current winners) are welcome to volunteer once again!

Again, a super congrats goes out to Flame Enchantress and Wassy! Flame and I discussed if there was anything specific we wanted in the piece and we've agreed to let Wassy have full control of the reins for the project. Heh, have fun Wassy!

    Sweet!

So... did this have to be legal to be viewable by people under 21 or what?

    OH EM GEE TREE

I'd definitely establish some sort of horizon line. But that tree and moon are great! Really goes to show that all you need are simple elements to make a nice background.
