This is the quality **** you get at @agentfoo!

Is that some weird sex thing I'm not aware of? I assume I want to remain unaware of it.

I have to spread more rep around before helping you with your chips again. This system is confusing =(

Er... uh... yeah. That might be crossing el lino. Just depends on if someone bothers to report it or not.

Of course, you could always say she tripped?
  5. I'm the competitive sort to a terrible degree and would so be all over something like this....

... except I've got so little free time right now it would be an impossibility =(

If it gets off the ground, I'll help you judge if you want!
  6. I don't know how effective the side-scrolling thing is. Really... you're not walking to that bright city at all. You're walking past it! The main figure is kind of.... removed from that whole background scene, so it loses a lot of the power it could have.

I also don't get that the left city is really "bad". It seems more like naturally shadowed from the bright city.

I'd definitely try to work the figure into having more interaction with either city (leaving or entering). An interesting perspective, like either bird's eye or worm's eye, could do a lot for it, too.
  7. I so agree with the "stylistic choice" thing being used as a shield. And yes, there is a touch of hypocrisy in my saying that because its more or less my answer when asked about my drawings' huge heads. But... I love them! I love huge heads and hair. Its pleasing to me and I like to keep them. I do pretty short torsos on chickies too but... its another thing that I've just come to like.

But, I don't want that to become a crutch or a shortcoming, so I really enjoy that my courses are keeping me far away from my comfort zones. It can be frustrating... except that now I can surprise myself when I start gradually getting the hang of things I NEVER thought I'd be any good at in the least.
  8. Actually, I'll throw in my refs for Neurotika

Like I mentioned above, I've just been bopping in and out of the thread to see the amazing work, so I don't know if you're still doing the request thing, but that's my lovely lady! The only important parts of her outfit are the hair, receivers, chains, and vacant facial expression. Otherwise I play dress-up with her a lot, so you can too if you want =)
  9. Oooh! Though if I get a spanking for drawing hairy guys with moobs.... there might be more of them >=D

And thanks Jophiel, I'm fairly happy with how I did the face and all. I was definitely trying to do things totally different from my norm, and used some of the techniques I've been learning from figure drawing in my blue lines. The arms and hands have a couple issues I could have tweaked (neck too, really), but I'll just be keeping those in mind for next time.

I have a crapton more to learn from figure drawing, but its always fun to apply some new skills to different areas!

    Don't feel bad... I don't either. Until it was mentioned on another thread, I thought the green lights had something to do with how much you were online or something ^.^;;;
  11. Thanks! Yes, I've seen a lot of Steve's junk, but its been a help. ..... I'd hate to think that its been a waste, anyway.
  12. You may all now beat me with sticks. For I bestow upon you....

    Man Boobs

That Lounge Crooner character was just too awesome. Had to do a quick sketch!

And yes, I really did that. Its a bit of a departure.

    Wonder Woman day

Wonder Woman day is awesome! But it wasn't me, I just know what it is.
  14. I've been poking in and out of this thread (and added Cashoo to my dA watch list immediately) and I just want to say that I LOVE your use of color....

If the client has very concrete ideas about what they want done, that's fine. But the more proscibed things become, the more commercial and academic the endeavor becomes. Maybe the artist works harder because they know the client is picky. Or maybe the client is more satisfied because the artist stays closer to their expressed expectations. Whether or not the art is actually better is a subjective appraisal. Personally, I really doubt it.
See, I'm the exact opposite way, because I start feeding off my clients' creativity as stuff moves along if they're nice and involved. Ideas I might have not thought of start getting tossed around, and that can open up whole new doors of things that do come to my mind.

I don't know if you're thinking of client involvement as "this goes exactly here and this is 2cm from that, yadda yadda", but I'm thinking of it as putting ideas back and forth and coming to the completed project with an exploration from both sides. That sort of collaboration definitely doesn't produce something inferior in any way.

To me, its pointless to go around telling people how to draw Kai for instance because the reason I paid them was to share their vision of her given whats out there so far. I'm also pretty sure LJ and JP's current sales for instance do not reflect a pricing of spending a week with someone going back and forth over details and color palettes ;7
DEFINITELY ask what kind of input the artist wants from you, sale or no sale. Because personally, the more involved the client is, the happier I am. I'm sure not every single artist feels the same way, but taking a moment to find out can make the process tons better for each person!

My whip cracking gets fast results! I'll have to keep that in mind...

    You're all doomed, now.
  18. I welcome critiquing of all my work and actively encourage it and really don't get enough of it for me. None of you has ever said anything worse than what I already think, because I'm way harder on myself than any outside person.

For around here, I'll just go with the flow. If people don't want critiques, then I won't give any. I don't have the time or energy to change the mood of the entire forum =P

As for who it comes from, I KNOW there are people completely and utterly qualified to critique art who aren't active artists. They DO still need an understanding of artwork, and yes, you can study the foundation and theories of good art without being a master of it. You can study and learn the fundamentals of composition, contrast, perspective, form, etc. and give really valuable input on artwork and not have the manual control to maybe PRODUCE masterpieces.

I don't think a person's ability to critique should be based on their portfolio, but of their knowledge of the foundations, principles, theories, and all that.

*cracks whip* FINISH THEM ALL RIGHT NOW. ESPECIALLY MINE!!!

Can't wait, I so very very rarely get arts of my character ^.^!!!!!
  20. I should really get around to making a model sheet for Neurotika someday...

Saw this at dA already and really liked it. Especially how the cape was made transparent to show back detail. That was a good idea.

I'd love to see a WIP folder. And if people want to keep the surprise to the end, they don't have to peek in it!

You will notice this in all the images I have posted, sorry not much I can do about it atm short of shooting them outside but it's been real windy of late.
I feel your pain. I've been putting up some work from my classes up and its all on paper that's waaaaaaaay bigger than my scanner. Its very tricky taking pics, I know >.<
  23. That's it, I'm never having children. Or if I do, they're going to boarding school.
