Here's an artist's construction lines.
Leonardo somethingerother......
But to be less of a smart***, Deane Keller is the master of construction lines for figure drawing -
There might be some work from my Figure Drawing 2 class that's up on my dA now, which means its quite nude and not direct linkable.
I'll also say that we have a new model. I swear to God she came into being straight out of a Botticelli. -
Bindweed's piece instantly reminded me of Rosie the Riveter and other WWII-era nose-art, which is just about as classic as a pin-up can get. She's still an idealized female, and the point of his piece is obviously glorifying her, which is what the pin-up is all about. She also has a very teasing look to her face. That's a sly double-entendre smile.
He meets the criteria without issue. -
Quote:Should be fixed now, but I submitted the piece for you anyway.I am not able to submit art to the Feb gallery. Only the Jan gallery is open for me.
I should have everyone caught up with putting pieces in the folders. Just need the artists to approve them, and they'll show up! -
FYI, you guys should be able to submit your pieces to the February FArt folder on the group dA page. If you can't, let me know, as I'm able to move around pieces.
Once we get to the voting, all pieces will be posted with a uniform thumbnail as some can be direct-linked, and some can not. I don't want to give unfair advantage by having mere links alongside thumbs of actual "safe" pieces. Even if your piece doesn't need a 2-click, they're all going to be structured that way for fairness. -
I love my Figure Drawing courses. And LD, that's a bunch of crap that you had poor lighting, and rest-assured that that's not the way of other courses. Both my instructors will take 10-15 minutes setting up lighting for a pose, and the room itself is constructed to tightly control the light.
My current teacher is a big believer in the atelier style studio class (our textbook) which is very very nice. -
Good call on the chair. And she is sitting high in it. I played with how she would super-realistically have her feet up on the desk, and I ended up liking the overall composition and feel of the piece better if I had her in the position I used. I had a little wiggle room since the piece is so stylized.

Heh, I used just the one glass slipper as another nod to the character. And I used the cigar because I thought it was a funny juxtaposition of the classic Cinderella and how I always thought those animals did an AWFUL lot of work.
I'm really going to have to try to photograph this with better light when I get it handed back. The offness of the colors bothers me. -
Quote:Best of the best, eh?
Honestly I would like it if more people posted what kind of instruction or tutorials they found to be the "best of the best" so as a community we had a standing list of some sort.
Illustration Master Class
Found via James Gurney's blog. Just need a spare $2000 and you're all set! -
I think the price actually seems pretty good for an 8-week course. I mean, a 5-day Illustration Master Class workshop is like $1950!
I'd be interested in checking it out, but there's no way I'd be able to keep up. I have 3 illustration-specific courses this semester and ALL of them prepare the student for the very tight deadlines that publishers will give working illustrators.... yeah, I'm gonna understand short deadlines VERY VERY well by May o.@ -

The votes are in and the people have spoken! And in the spirit of the Olympic theme, we will honor our First, Second, and Third place contestants.
By a, shall we say, comfortable margin Lousy_Day has claimed the Gold!
Battlewraith (FrozenDeath) snagged the Silver
Frost and JohnnyKat can knife fight for the Bronze
Congrats everyone! February is already shaping up REALLY well. -
Oh right, I have to calculate this now. I've lost all sense of time this week. I was at calling hours/funeral most of the day yesterday.
Anyway, results will be up today. -
Both recent entries qualify!
Really neat composition, Juggy. Liberty certainly does have a frisky side! -
Yeah, I really liked LD's idea in and of itself, but the Ghost Widow/Wretch storyline puts him in a really precarious position to slip into the tragedy and all that I want to avoid, so I cautioned against it. Better to play it safe then put hours in and need to come up with a new piece at the last minute.

Quote:That should be fine. Like I mentioned, I was trying to steer more away from star-crossed suicidal lovers and losing Johnny in a tragic car accident on Dead Man's Curve. And some of the other ideas that were PM'd to me ^.^;;My idea is very lighthearted cheesecake, but it does involve violence in the form of one or more beat up thugs in the scene. I would think that a superhero themed pinup would allow for indication that the hero or heroine has been fighting crime, but I guess its prudent to ask.

Awww... sorry Suichiro. Instead of a consoling hug, should I perhaps offer a punch in the gut?
-
Fantabulous way to bring in the pin-up, Clutch!
You know what figures though? While spanking is acceptable, its probably as much "violence" as I would allow this month. You guys still seem to need injuries along with your romance! What's up with that?! -
I don't know how well flash paper will accept watercolors =P
-
BUBBAWHEAT!!! I'm gonna send you a PM, but my teacher loved your concept! He said as long as no children are using the matches and that the matches are all characters, its fine.
He suggested that I can keep the same low amount of text, but with the subject matter and illustrations, gear it for more like 8-12 year olds. -
Um... I'm not completely sure. Like i said, it would have to be about one simple paragraph (or less) per page, 32 page book. Also, large type. Going for 6-8 year old demographic. The artwork is the focus of the project, so even a pretty short story that has an interesting theme would do quite nicely.

I'll ask my teacher about it tomorrow. I see your point, Caemgen. But illustrating fire and glowing stuff is fun!

Hahah, its not so much the picture as the... movement o.o
