I need to do some sketches for school projects, but I need to get the drawing juices flowing first... so to speak.
So quickly! Post some good characters for me to do quick sketches of! -
Frost puts pieces I've done for him up around our place. I rotate my figure drawing pieces around my husband's computer desk area, for some reason. I don't know why I started doing that... but it just is!

Boo! You're doing this during Olympic coverage! Olympics trumps you, unfortunately.
Don't forget to put in your FArt submission!! -
Alright. I'll get the March theme up this weekend after starting the voting.
-
For those of you who are having trouble submitting to the correct folder in the group, I'll see what I can do about getting that all situated later this evening. I'll be around working on some sketches for different school projects, watching the deadline.
Voting will be up later on Saturday, or early Sunday. It takes a while to get that post all put together with the clickable thumbs and whatnot.
I can also get March's theme going (which I just realized I COMPLETELY forgot to give to Foo.... whooooooops) this weekend if desired by the participants. -
Shia, I'd almost totally forgotten about the KoA! That was a really good choice.

I just wanted to be an insufferable braggart for a minute and mention that I was just told that this piece...
...was one of the two selected out of this year's Student Art Show at my college to become part of the college's permanent display =3 -
Quote:Sorry, but I've taken Statistics courses. I know that they're nothing but a pack of lies and deceit. You can get statistics to say whatever the heck you want. I was totally jaded after finishing Analysis, Statistics and Measurements in Behavioral Science and changed my major! You know, you are 52 times more likely to die travelling by boat than by plane. Although these statistics include drunk rednecks in their bass boats, I would say traveling by air is still one of the safest ways to go.
Plus, I'd rather die quickly on a plane than float around in the ocean for a few days. Deep water is scary. -
My first reaction was to disqualify this entry. But I thought about it for a bit. Caemgen is correct that I didn't have a specific prohibition against fan writing. What kind of sold it for me though is that this is now the Screenshots & Fan Creations forum. We have a fan fic section on the dA group. Writing is an art. I've been encouraging thinking outside the usual fan art offerings.
So I've decided to qualify this entry.
I'm not totally keen on having this contest suddenly get a lot of writing entries, though. I think this contest should stay more for visual arts, as that's what the original intent it. It just adds a whole other beast if there's also writing (even just themes would have to be changed to keep it in mind). So going forward, there will be specific monthly rules prohibiting fan fics. -
I have been to France... but that resulted in me being terrified of flying and not getting on one of those abominations unto the Lord again. Especially not now that they can't pay enough to get people to operate them that know what they're doing.
My husband and I would like to save up to do a transatlantic cruise trip and travel around Europe for something like our 25th anniversary. I feel much better on boats. -

I'm an art history nerd. Honestly, the only thing that would stop me from getting the secondary degree is finances, which is why I'm alternatively thinking of doing it as a minor. But there's so much to learn from knowing where we came from... and I find that art brings history in general to a more personal level. Just the study of the human figure in art through time is a very in-depth history lesson.

I said Moses because the bust itself IS a Moses. When you said Michelangelo, I knew it wasn't HIS Moses because they are so different.
And I've studied a lot of Michelangelo's work. I'm either doing an Art History minor or going back for an Art History graduate degree at some point.... -
Bwahahaha, no prob. I'm a notorious threadjacker, so I don't mind if my threads meander.
-
Seems like a perfectly acceptable way to abbreviate it to me! But then again... I think very little of this holiday =P
-
I didn't really get a Michelangelo feel from it (but this could also be because I've studied a lot of his work, so just didn't recognize it as one of them), but the way you worded your comment made it sound like you thought it was a bust from a Michelangelo (I also am more than aware that his Moses was full figure, but that doesn't stop busts of it and others like the David from existing). Don't get me wrong... I really enjoy neoclassic sculpture and other classical revivals... but they do lack the monumentality and power. They have all the lovely flowing lines but not as much "depth".
Its just one of those unknown artist busts that's often used for cast drawing.... and garden statuary apparently. But its a nice choice for cast drawings because of all the details with the hair and beard. Same reason why the Plato bust and another head of Zeus are popular subjects. And David is chopped right up to do studies... down to pieces of his face. -
Which means you better hurry your butt up, Frost!
-
The artist is Yumiko Dorsey, but that is not a Michelangelo bust. Michelangelo's Moses had horns. The bust is 19th century neo-classic.

I really enjoy charcoal. It allows for fast changes but also can be really refined...
That's charcoal! -
Glad you like her! I haven't busted out the charcoal for a while, and figured that it would be something different for your collection. Kinda fun doing something stylized in a media like charcoal... Send me a PM if you'd like me to email a little bigger version of the file.
-
Well, now its about catgirls!
I felt like doing charcoal. -
First is first! And I can't resist your characters, Sapphy >=D
-
^^ This does not count as character reference. I need something to work with.

First person to post character references gets a free quick sketch from me today.

Holy cow... it went downhill that fast? Yikes.... did they severely misrepresent themselves or something?
