  1. Agent 99 was totally hot. And I'm not talking Anne Hathaway.
  2. I want to make it TOTALLY clear that this theme is in no way for those of you who are more casual artists or something. Its to really push the boundaries of fan art and to see some very different sorts of entries. Like I said, I've had this theme under my hat for quite a while, well before we knew who the entrants were. This was actually rather inspired by LD's stained glass entry of last year's battle. I wanted one media-specific month that would get everyone out of their comfort zones and into something that's a real challenge to pull off.

JK- Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe those sidewalk chalk images are done using the children's sidewalk chalk. I've only gathered that from the images I've seen where they have the box of chalks next to them, and they're not those big, fat Crayola ones. The big, fat Crayola ones were what I meant when I said children's chalk.

Its not that I want to see a whole bunch of bad art, I want to see what you creative and artistic people can do with weird and whimsical children's tools. The reason that I'm not allowing marker, pencil, charcoal, etc. is that those are items commonly used for professional artwork, and won't lend themselves to being an interesting challenge. I'm sure there's someone out there on the internet who's made the macaroni and glue Sistine Chapel, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to allow that material. If someone DID the macaroni and glue Sistine Chapel using CoH/CoV characters... that would be a pretty damn awesome way to use such a weird material.

Yes, Play-Do (Doh? Dough?) is acceptable, but use that or its generic equivalent. Don't use Sculpey. As awesome as Legos would be... I'm going to say no because I see them somewhat more of a toy than an art material. Just strikes me as slightly not quite fitting, but if someone can give me good, solid reasoning as to how it fits perfectly, I'm willing to hear them out.

As mentioned in the opening post, any subject is acceptable. You do not have to stick to child-like themes (though you do have to keep it PG-13 or under). This is kind of what you each have to decide as to how you think you'll make the strongest entry. Do you think you can make an insanely detailed glitter and glue creation, or will your entry strike an emotive chord by being simple?
  3. I know, Viv (as I said take a photo of a chalk drawing), but scanning a sidewalk WOULD be pretty interesting! Way more than a photo ^.^
  4. I also would like to see that!
  5. Ya, I don't know if anyone has a clear advantage for the month, which should be fun.

No brushes or charcoal, for the same reasons I'm not allowing marker (too easy to circumvent the point of the challenge). I DON'T want to see conte or artist grade pastels. Childrens' chalk is fine.. and I think it would be really cool if someone did a sidewalk chalk creation and submitted a photo of that!
  7. EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW, I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN

I'm very excited that April is here, because I've had this one up my sleeve for quite a while! This is our very first media-specific battle. For this month, your pieces all must hearken back to those innocent days of yore when we all could whole-heartedly pretend to be superheroes. ALL PIECES MUST BE DONE USING KINDERGARTEN-APPROPRIATE ART MATERIALS!

What I want to see this month are materials like crayon, finger-paints, glitter and glue, macaroni and glue, construction paper, etc. NO DIGITAL ART IS ALLOWED. I'm also not allowing marker because even though marker is used, it would be too easy to circumvent the point of the theme with them. Colored pencil is also off-limits, as is pencil and pen and ink. Please run your choices by me if you're at all unsure, and shout out some materials that might be fun that I've over-looked.

The actual subject is up to you, and you can go really dark and gory to make an interesting contrast between the subject and the material.

    THE RULES

    1. The Hot Chicks Rule- All entries must somehow include a hot chick!

    2. Keep It Clean- All entries must be direct-linkable on the boards. If its worse than PG-13, you will be disqualified.

    3. Use City of Heroes/Villains Elements- Your entry must somehow relate to City of Heroes/Villains either through character, setting, or some other means

    4. Use Only Approved Materials- If what you want to use isn't mentioned above, check to make sure its OK first!

    5. Visual Fan Art Only- I think with the theme requirement this isn't a problem... but just in case, we're not taking writing, music, or interpretive dance submissions

    DEADLINES
All entries must be posted to this thread or the dA group by MIDNIGHT US EASTERN TIME, FRIDAY APRIL 23RD. Voting/the new theme will follow during that weekend. Its in the artists' best interest to get their pieces in early for feedback or in case there is a disqualifying element. Feel free to PM me with any questions or if you're unsure if something is within the rules.

    Get dirty!
  8. Yeah, that's the thing. My answers on this rule have been the same since before January. Nobody has asked for any NEW clarification, quite honestly, and I've been giving the same response many many many manymanymany times.

And as I stated, THIS time it wasn't the question being raised again. It was the fact that I answered the question through PM, the same way I HAVE been answering the question, pointing back to the past examples as to why its the same call, but then it was still brought up here regardless of the fact that I explained my call.

The rule is pretty open-ended, but I haven't changed how I've judged it since the get-go. I'm not judging it lackadaisically at all. I'm holding to the same standard as I have the entire time. I don't know what better examples people really need beyond what was hashed out in January... because that covered all the bases possible.

I'll keep the rule in for April... but really, if there's another huge essay-fest, then its done. There's no point to it if its only a cause for debate and not the extra parameter to be creative with that I intended.

I never said you didn't have a right to your opinion. But in YOUR OWN post you pointed out that I gave you my reasoning. I'm pretty darn sure that since I came up with the rule, *I* know what I intended for it. I told you it wasn't intended to be strict... and I've been letting pretty much everything through since January that had anything even MINORLY female (cross-dressing Mako, for instance). And even NOT female, since my favorite thus far has been Caemgen's burning baby chicken. THAT'S what I want from the rule... tongue-in-cheek fun.

So what was the point of your post when you got your answer, exactly? I appreciated a lot that you PM'd me, because I've been doing everything I can to AVOID these huge debacles and people dropping out over silly things.

Why do people put so much effort into taking all the fun out of this game? I said over and over and over that the Hot Chicks Rule was very light-hearted and only intended to be used creatively if people wanted.

The first thing that always seems to get tossed out the window in this game is the fun factor. And that's a real shame. Its supposed to be a little challenge, something to get artists doing things maybe they normally wouldn't do. But all the effort goes into freaking rule interpretation and going over the same things again and again and again. Its incredibly exhausting.
  10. Seriously, guys? Maybe its because I just woke up and am heading to class and I've had no caffeine and am NOT a morning person but.... really? As Pyro said, I explained my view on the rule through PM, so I don't know why it was brought up again here.

Yeah, the rule is very VERY loose. Its only there as an extra bit of seasoning that people can either play with and have fun, or pretty damn easily satisfy by throwing anything female in there. As I said in PM, I find most chicks pretty hot. Its a joke!!! Why do we have to have gigantic discussions about it?!

If its going to be such a freaking problem, I'll just forget about it for next month. Jeez.
  11. LD's is bigger because it didn't link to dA, so didn't have a thumb to use and was way too lazy to resize it myself =P

  13. Poor Sapphy... there was an English rule, too. But she's trying so hard!
  14. Time to vote for this month's winner! We're still going to keep a 1,2,3 voting scheme, as it will be very helpful if we ever have an actual elimination.

Due to more than one entrant dropping due to lack of submission this month, we won't have an elimination. We're voting for next month's immunity.

    Without further ado...

EDIT: Forgot the deadline... like I tend to do. Voting will close at midnight, Friday April 2nd. Next month's theme will be up soonish

Both sound hilarious and a little beeezar.

...also is the voting thread coming soon?
The grilled Satan is the correct interpretation.

I'll be getting the vote up today. My errands took way longer than anticipated yesterday, and I needed to get certain amounts done on my homeworks. I'm starting to go more than a little COMPLETELY INSANE to land another 4.0 this semester.... because I'll be applying to Syracuse University for their illustration program in the fall o.o
  16. I would be more impressed if it was made WITH SCIENCE!!... but I guess a few congratulations are in order. *golf clap*
  17. Sketch for ScooterTwo is done. I also decided I'm going to keep these sketches open while classes are running, since they work out nice as warm-ups for me before working on school projects. Sign up on my dA if ya want one =)

  18. Did Clutch drop off the face of the Earth? Really a shame, as he had immunity and could have thrown up some stick figures. Or did I miss something?

Anyway, this is my marker to know who didn't get in on time, and I actually DID just check the dA group this time. Let me know if I honestly missed someone....

Vote will be up this weekend... probably not until later in the day tomorrow. I have to be off on a hunt for acrylics first thing tomorrow morning so I can paint my latest illustration of a cheery 50's housewife serving her eager little son Satan for dinner. Its due on Wednesday.

    .... what?
  19. Another creative and yet terrifying entry. Just what I wanted to see this month!

Keep up the good show, stragglers!
  20. I've mulled it over, and we'll do an elimination based on if any more people get dropped out due to not submitting this month.

We'll be doing a normal month next month, and then I was planning on having June be a chance for one of the eliminated players win their way back. We'll see what the interest is for this when the time comes, though.

    New Larissa art!

I gots me one of them of Neurotika, too! Sanchez is awesome.
  22. I will happily accept Shia's second submission. Those original Alice In Wonderland illustrations are some of my all-time favorite pen and ink works. Really happy to see someone reference them, as they are what come to MY mind when I think of Alice.
  23. Glad to see some more entries coming on in! And Countess Crey is a pretty darn good fit for the Red Queen.
