OK, it says I can take an enhancement up to +5 levels over its normal level, can I give it +levels that would take it out of my level range to use?
-
I see a potential compromise, but I'm not sure if the system would support it, by expanding the difficulty sliders and adding some extra stuff.
The Team Leader, if they're Alpha Unlocked, can set a mission as an Incarnate Challenge, here's a few ideas to mix and match.
1: Instead of Lts and Bosses having 1 minion with them, they'd have two.
2: All spawns would have a Lt or Boss.
(this means a +0/x8 would have 16 minions and 8 Lts or Bosses, not the usual ~20 minions and 4 Lts/Bosses)
3: Boss mobs would have Leadership.
4: Minions would have substantial additional HP, a medium amount for Lts and slightly more HP for bosses. (maybe additional resist/defense too?)
5: Possibly add in regular bosses with an EB ranks as regular spawn enemies?
EDIT: This gives the Incarnate players the option of using their full power, while not forcing non-Incarnates to suffer (unless they choose to run along for this sort of meatgrinder ^_^). -
I'm not liking the setup for this.
For those of us in the states, we need a 9-5 job, or no job, and no family to deal with in order to get a good chance of participating. And we only get 1 day per server for 3 whole hours.
AWESOME!
The only way I can participate on Virtue is by not sleeping today!!!
I can only participate AND sleep by playing on servers I have no characters on!!!
But more importantly, I've gotten a bit more lore out of y'all. -

What's the AT damage cap for Stalkers? And do critical hits count toward that cap?
-
EM/Invul. 50+
Yes, I'd like the animations to be...a wee bit faster, and I'd like my AoE to feel as awesome as its recharge time indicates.
But once you get it set like mine with yellow and orange set IOs, it feels pretty fast. -
Quote:No. They're DIFFERENT. Brutes can do far more damage than a tanker, but tankers are tougher. Likewise, a Corruptor can blast better than a Defender, but the Defender can buff/debuff better.can someone pls tell me why a willpower tanker will have more resistance and a willpower burte? i went on mids and built both builds and the tanker has more hp as usual but more resistance that seems odd to me pls help. and more def i thought that the devs didnt made it that the builds were even across the board.
Quote:What i would love to see is the DEVS make every thing same across the board. If you didn't notice that everything is tailored towards the heros and i do mean EVERYTHING!if you say no then you must play the heros side more than the villans.
"Go to another zone, kill 20 in zone"
"Go some other zone, kill 20 other things"
(etc)
Villain-side game content is FAR easier, usually its just "Go through door, get item/kill leader" or "Kill all" -
Quote:Think of a deliberately gimped powerset, and come up with a decent story for it, and then play it (I play a mind/psi dom with the full fighting pool, and no travel powers, and she runs in and will scrap too, surprisingly, kick sometimes comes in handy!)Hey guys....when u read the title of this thread i bet you thought about a mind troller or dom right? But no its not, I get bored of all the combos i try...So im coming to the forums to ask:
1) Have yall ever run into "gamers block"?...i guess thts whats it called
2) If so, how did u get over it?
Thanks for all your answers and suggestions -
Quote:Yep, it's completely different from WoW, or any similar game. Tankers and Brutes do BETTER at tanking, but even my brute can be a team buffer/backup healer with the right power choices.Something tells me this does not quite hold true for CoX.
What are the optimal team builds? Which team builds should I stay away from?
For some TFs, there's some utility to certain power choices, like hold powers on the LGTF. But I think there's never a REQUIREMENT to have 1 X 2 Y and 5 Z.
Oh, and the optimum team build is: Fun. A team that has a decent knowledge of how to hit buttons and in what order should have no problem beating most content. -
-
As a "Gotta hit 50 fast", single-target is...sub-optimal.
As "My character has power X that they got from origin Y", you go with whatever fits.
As "Hmm...can I make this work?", you go with what fits. -
Quote:There are a few CoT missions with buffing/debuffing crystals, but the mobs don't seem to make good use of them, though, and they don't seem especially powerful. How about frequently respawning turrets that target the nearest player character?
Terrain that causes debuffs or DoT only to players, or buffs the enemies while they stand on it?
What about having enemies with short range PBAoE buffs to each other to make the standard clumping tactic a very bad one?
I'd also like ranged attackers like Rikti drones to form circles around enemies, not so close to each other that you can toss AoEs at them and wipe them.
Ways of isolating you from your group so they can defeat you each one-on-one. And yes, ambushes like that which would have enemies tailored to defeat your AT/powerset. Cheat? Not if you fight well enough and are lucky enough to win.
But yes, I'd like some better terrain features, and AI to use them. Some better AI to, if not ignore the tank, at least make him be more than Tauntbot McMeatshield. Things that keep us guessing, not a simple "OK, this type of enemy has to die, NOW" like the Surgeons. -
Yeah, for the CoP, I'd say that would be *recommended*, but I'd never say that Alpha would be required for people running on a non-Alpha TF, and maybe not even then. And yes, I've run on PuGs with all kinds of stuff...all brute/scrappers? Yep. No heals? Yep. The tank being a massively IO'd blaster? Yep.
I can see preferences being made for certain types, especially when the majority aren't IO'd and with really good power selections. But heck, I even had fun on a colossally failed alpha TF on day 1 when my party thought that you had to have the Alpha slot unlocked and didn't need the slot FILLED. It was fun, and I actually felt like I was fighting a truly impressive, dangerous enemy for the first time in about 40 levels.
The only time I'd say there should be a requirement at the signup, would be if it is needed to complete a mission due to gimmickry. Like the LG Hami mish.
The worst I've seen, was someone getting his drawers all bunched up because of the leader's power choices (which were sub-optimal, but hardly BAD). He quit the group, and then we went and found a non-jackwagon player and went on to ALMOST do a MoITF with a PuG group (we got separated on the shadow cyst mission, and a Minotaur and Cyclops and a couple dozen of their friends said "Hi" to me).
*thinks of what RP fun it would be to have a few nearly helpless people in the non-AV parts of a Alpha-TF, while 1-2 alpha'd people showed off their epic power* -
Quote:Where would that case occur, and why? What are you fighting?
Worst-case scenario (a +15 Paragon Protector that's just activated their godmode), I don't think you can get enough to-hit. I believe the limit to to-hit buffs is 175%, and between the Purple Patch debuffs and the godmode defense buffs, you'll need more than that to reach a 95% chance to hit. -
Quote:Yes, but those are two fairly useless powers, since they only affect minions and underlings. And the confuse nerfs their damage, IIRC. But the villain brute isn't near as good as some of the others, but it is far better than the rog/vig powers, IMORogues and Villains can use their specific Alignment powers, too.
If the idea of causing fear or confusion fits your character, this is a role playing reason.
But at the same time, most of my chars will go rogue/vig, and ignore the powers, merits (and sob as she misses the lovely, lovely merits). -
Quote:I'd say that a SPECIFIC enemy type is a bad idea (enemy name XYZ). Too easy to fix that way, just a keybind to find the enemy of that type, snipe him, steam roll him, or whatever.I'd just like to see some smarter enemies. Mag 100 hold DoTs don't count as challenge. Give me something I have to react to, not something I need to pray doesn't hit me or have ten stacks of clarity/thaw/clear mind for.
If the tank or scrapper or even the blaster has to target a specific minion/LT/boss because that minion/LT/boss is going to aim right for the buffer keeping everyone alive, that's challenge. That's keeping us on our toes.
I'd like some randomness to it. Ideally, I'd want some of most enemy types to have both a random chance of being smart, and some specifically smarter types, and a few random hits to keep things interesting.
To keep in with comic book reality, I'd actually expect minions and lieutenants to be more random, and make firefights more chaotic. While I'd expect the elite boss/AVs to concentrate on the big blue muscular spandex-clad guy in the red cape.
But when the yellow-skinned, green-eyed princess of Tamaran blasts him with her tier 9 nuke, the AV should turn, blast once or twice to warn her off/injure her...or turn her into VENGEANCE BAIT, then go back to dealing with the big blue guy who just...never falls down. -
Quote:Nothing in the universe will help against DE if they get their pet rocks out, except for resistances and healing. If I remember correctly, the DE do normally have much higher TH numbers than normal, so +def will help some (I believe its something like 68% vs. the standard 50%).2 questions actually:
I just slotted the 1st tier of spiritual into my alpha slot on my troller - I had his combat attribute for overall recharge being monitored at the time and I noticed that when I slotted it the number didn't move at all - why would that be?
Second, on an SR character, if one is at the soft cap for defense is it worth slotting the alpha for defense anyway? Since so many teams run vs. +3s and such I notice I am getting pounded even at the soft cap. Wouldn't the extra def help against DE, AVs, etc?
Also, I remember hearing that Battle Maiden had a 47% TH against a soft-capped person, and she hits hard too...so...more defense is always good. No matter what your choice of mitigation abilities, you've got a hole in it, or some mob can come along and BLOW a hole in it. -
Quote:This would be great. Some classes of mobs should always be dumb (Zombie/Cadaver/Ghoul minion type enemies, especially), some should be a challenge and tend to go after the buff/debuff/DPSers and be HARD for Taunt-bot Meatshield to pull (some endgame types), and some should be a mix.Instead of having every enemy be "smart", how about having a few smart enemies? Maybe 25% of the mobs have the "smart" AI and get aggro from healing/buffs/debuffs/ugly costumes. That way the current dynamic isn't completely lost but a new element of surprise is tossed in the ring. It might spice up fights a bit.
Quote:This is a good one. Another one that I've seen in some much older games was to manipulate the aggro list. The enemy normally focuses everything on the top of the list, you have aggro or you don't. But in a few older games the enemy would occasionally toss one attack at an enemy in the 2-4 range, then go back to the top of the list. If this was implemented in such a way as to keep them from running back and forth or losing a lot of tine with redraw it might spice things up some. -

Also: They wanted to name it the "Cole Memorial Hospital to the Fact that I Saved Your Lives From the Hamidon", but...even Tyrant thought that was WAY too long...

Romulus Augustus...we killed his army behind his back, then one of his AV tagalongs, then he finally noticed...and...ran up the mountain away from us, then around...and away again and again and again...

Quote:We were a PUG group, but we couldn't clear a single hotspot. If we had a better tactical plan, we could have worked on the stupid builder/mender lieutenants, then the bosses and minions. What was your team composition? I think a team of eight mixed /sonic defenders might have a chance: enough resistance debuffs to do healthy levels of damage, enough regen debuffs to ensure the damage sticks around, and enough resistance and defense buffs to keep everyone alive.
Controls were useless, straight DPS was chump change. I mean, I was hitting minions with my Energy Transfer power, and their HP bar moved about as much as when I hit an EB with that. When I hit a normal minion with ET, that minion dies.
I want videos of that. No. I want to be standing behind the person doing that. And I want my eyes checked, and a full psych exam before to make sure I'm seeing everything right, and not hallucinating. -
This would be my bet. I faced three orange rank seers on a resistance storyline, when, according to my settings, they should have been yellows. Psi vs. Psi, and they had more powers, I made progress on my debt badges ^_^.

I'm doing a mix of it. For the character that I took my forum name from, her armor has gotten some improved modular functionality. Massive Incarnate buffage accomplished without becoming a demigod.
But I'm also working in the villain morality mission where she meets her far future god-self, her armor must insure that future does not come to pass. Because the far future god-self has exceeded the AI's controls, but if it kills her, it kills the AI's host.
You can roll a level 1 mastermind and do the button-mashing non-RP part of the game like a mastermind, and then turn around and RP as a muscle-bound tanker. The plot is more important than powers,
