Before you make a snide comment about the integrity of something I said, consider there might actually be more to the issue than just what you see.
His point stands, like it or not. The people who work on adding npcs are not the same people who fix code. Getting angry about it won't magically imbue artists and entry level coders with the know-how to fix fundamental flaws in a 7 year old game engine.
  2. Mobs stuck in walls has been a problem literally since day one, seven years ago, and the game has seen at least three different dev teams during that time. Players have been complaining about it for all seven of those years. Safe to say there's a reason why over all that time it stll hasn't been fixed. I doubt we'll see it go away without, as Bright Shadow suggested, a total engine rewrite.

I never gave a statistically absolute case of anything, I asked a question. I'll elaborate though; the thrust of most of the complaints on this thread about the iPad and iPad users seems to be that a significant number of people have been brainwashed by Apple's magical marketing department into switching from their laptop and/or smartphone when those devices would have served their needs better. I think that's baloney, and I think that any sensible person who actually thought that claim through would have to admit, if they were being honest, that it's a pretty outrageous and over the top claim. I think that people who make claims like that ought to provide some kind of evidence, even anecdotally, that their claim has some kind of substance to it. So far no one has; the only people who've said they know someone who ditched their laptop in favor of an iPad also say that those people only used their laptop for simple stuff like checking email, streaming Netflix, etc. That's stuff that the iPad clearly does better than a laptop or smartphone. Those people aren't downgrading and they aren't being brainwashed by Apple's marketing department, they're upgrading to a piece of hardware that suits their needs better than their previous devices.

Now, there have been posters pointing out that the iPad isn't a serious work computer, and that's absolutely true. I don't think any sensible person has claimed otherwise, because it's pretty flippin' obvious. I doubt a significant number of people bought an iPad expecting that from it.

Speaking strictly for myself, my iPad suits my needs better than either a laptop or smartphone would (or a TV set, for that matter), and on top of that it'll be cheaper over time than a smartphone because I'm not paying for an expensive data plan (don't need or particularly want 3G). I'm pretty confident I'm not being somehow suckered by Apple's magical marketing powers, the thing just does what I want it to do better than any other device out there and cheaper than quite a few of them. I'm pretty sure most other iPad users feel the same way. If someone else prefers a laptop and/or smartphone, good on 'em. They know what they need better than I do, and vice versa.
  5. I hit that article up after seeing Scott McCloud tweet about it. I am now planning on buying this book as soon as it hits Comixology or comes out in trade, whichever comes first.

Same with the SAW movies, unless there's a reboot planned that I haven't heard of. And by all accounts the True Grit remake is freakin' brilliant, so it makes a pretty poor example of a reboot that shouldn't have been done.

Remember Apple gears itself towards being "easy to use" for people who don't really know anything about traditional computers, so to those people their iPad is probably now their "main" machine of choice.
Uh uh. "I'm sure" and "probably" aren't good enough for me. I'm interested in things that actually happen, not things that some people think probably happen but that they have no real examples of. Lothic, do you actually know anyone who actually used their computer and who got rid of it or stopped using it in favor of an iPad? And if so, what were they doing with the computer in the first place? Just checking email and streaming Netflix?

Exactly the things I use it for. I'm actually kind of curious; did anyone here at any point in time actually think the iPad was going to replace desktop or laptop PCs as work devices? Is this really a point of confusion for anyone? Because I don't know anyone IRL or in my SG who ever had the idea that an iPad was going to do everything a proper Mac or PC could do. I don't understand how anyone honestly got the idea that people were getting rid of their other devices, outside of perhaps a few people who only used their laptops as casual entertainment devices.
  9. Actually, considering how mediocre the previous Tomb Raider movies were I could see this being a pretty good idea.

Seriously. I wouldn't know though, since I own and like an iPad 1 and am therefore apparently a fanboy. Don't tell my Windows PC or my non-smart cell phone.
  11. Huh, I guess I missed the news about it. I'll have to poke around and see if anyone I know is going.

But what really seems to happen is that after the first model hits and is successful, all the other companies copy them and make better related products then apples. For instance most other smart phones have better features then Iphone, alot of the new android tablets are IMO better then the Ipads. So it always kinda strikes me as funny that people get so hyped for apples 2nd round of products when usually by that time Apples second round is only maybe catching up to other companies first rounds.
There are other reasons besides hardware specs that people choose a tablet, and reasons besides trendiness that folks go for an iPad over an Android tablet.
  13. It's on sale on Comixology for the next couple days and I'm thinking about checking it out, but I'm not a regular Superman reader and have no idea if it's actually good or if there are issues I can/should skip. Any Supes fans out there have a take on this storyline?
  14. Peter David's Hulk run is one of my favorite runs in comics, period. Though I do tend to associate it more with the 90s than the 80s. And while it's been literally years since I've read it, I'd put the Stern/Romita Jr. Spider-Man stuff right up there, too.
  15. Reaching outside of comics, I could see Rick Grimes being iconic if The Walking Dead continues to do well on TV. He doesn't quite have the "Look at me!" factor that most superheroes have, but he's an interesting character who's certainly caught on more than most other similar characters have.
  16. I'm kind of getting a little chuckle out of this thread, everybody's so sensitive. As if BrandX coming along with something in her bio magically "invalidates" all our RP and character development, whatever "invalidate" even means in this context. I mean yeah, if she actually tried to godmode people via this concept that'd be lame, but she's outright said that she isn't going to do that.

Sweet Christ, someone other than me liked Cyberrad? YES!

I may have a real answer to the question tomorrow. I just had to geek out at the Cyberrad fandom. I don't care if it was emo, it was cool as hell. At least as I remember it so many years later.
  18. What Smersh said. I ask because Comic Book Resources just happened to repost Six Degrees of St. Elsewhere today as a tribute to McDuffie.
  19. BTW, you didn't just read Dwayne McDuffie's Six Degrees of St. Elsewhere over on CBR by any chance, did you?
  20. As long as I never have to actually address the idea ICly, doesn't bother me. Though admittedly I'm not sure what putting it in the bio accomplishes if no one is ever going to find out or have to address the idea.

And, since I, like many of you, work during the day and have obligations to family during the weekends, I'm not sure I can GET to my non-50s to benefit from the bonus XP (especially for Sis Psy and the week-long trek through Council and Freakshow).

However, I led a Sis Psy TF yesterday with Beorn, and there were 4 of us who were exemplared 50s and 4 who were more the level-appropriate characters for the TF in the first place.

    We had a blast!

Now, I will admit, the dynamics between the players was great and we all seemed to enjoy the ride, but it was more than that...

The 50s were all talking about heading to do a LGTF or ITF afterwards to grab any needed shards, and the lower level characters were asking questions about the Incarnate system, Cimerora, and generally just being inquisitive and good-natured.

One hour and forty-one mintes later, and I had my Notice. But, I didn't even realize that the TF had taken that long. I enjoyed myself. I tanked throughout and, for some reason, seemed more powerful than a level 25. I have a knockback proc for one of my attacks that is level 35, yet I KNOW I was knocking down mobs with an attack that does NOT inherently have knockback. Also, I have Taunt fully slotted with Perfect Zinger at level 50, and I taunted and several times caused Psionic damage with my taunt.

I thought we lost the bonuses in our IO sets when we exemplared? If so, I didn't. If not, then why complain about the WTF if the only "gimping" is a loss of some powers?
You lose your set bonuses, but you don't lose the IOs themselves. The knockback and damage procs aren't set bonuses, they're IOs with a particular effect, so presumably that's why you kept them.

If you had, say, some hypothetical IO set whose individual IOs had their own properties and then a set bonus that said "chance for knockback" you'd lose that.

Those level requirements haven't changed. TFs have a level range, and characters higher than that range can exemplar down to do them. They meet the level requirement, they just have to run it exemplared to a level where the content is at least somewhat challenging.

It sounds to me like your real issue is simply that you don't want to exemplar down. Fair enough, I can see why someone wouldn't like that, but at the same time there are a lot of players (certainly the majority of those that I know) who don't mind at all and who would like to enjoy the WST rewards on lower level characters. Them's the breaks.
  23. Also, just to clear up a couple factual points...

Then they also give a double merit bonus (Level 50 worthy) and a chance at Purple Recipe drops (Level 50 Worthy).

Now we have two level 25-30 Task / Strike Forces that give you an XP bonus (Lowbie Worthy) a Double Merit Reward (Level 50 Worthy) and Notice of the Well (incarnate worthy). One thing though....they're lowbie TFs! You get no shard drops.
Actually, the level 45-50 strike/task forces give double exp as well. The only difference in rewards is the lack of shards, and as has been established shards will be added to low level strike targets in I20. Problem solved.

    Quote:
The whole point of a lowbie TF is to play that TF when you're in that level range to begin with. The XP bonus and the merits are nice but the merits will probably only be stock piled until level 50 anyways. Their designed to help level the toons that are close to jumping into the next level range. Hence the 5 level variable for the TF requirements. That is when they are at their most fun. Most people these days just want to blow through all of it and get them done as quick as possible but they're meant to be enjoyed at the level they were designed for.
If this were the case the game wouldn't exemplar higher level characters down to allow them to participate in lower level TFs. That fact alone clearly shows that TFs are intended to be played and and enjoyed at any level where the TF is accessible (i.e. if you're high enough to do it). If the intention were otherwise higher level players wouldn't be able to participate in them, just like it was in the early days of the game.
  24. I think it's a good move, and it'll be a better move after I20. I prefer a variety of strike targets to a rotation of STF/LRSF, ITF and LGTF over and over again.
