Quote:Definitely this...My take on the best case scenario is this;
1. First and foremost have the CoH IP secured by a new company.
2. Secure the playerbase that we still have, and perhaps evaluate F2P versus subscription only to determine what's best financially for the new company - and start marketing this game properly.
3. Carry on as before - in the short term, but shift staffing and design emphasis to the future (see point 4 ... )
4. Start work on a replacement for CoH - lets call it CoH2. This is absolutely vital. As much as we all love CoH as it is, it is an old game and it's starting to show. Even the most ardent fan knows that no game has an infinite life and CoH is rather long in the tooth these days.
5. Once CoH2 is ready (and before that) really push the marketing campaign out there. The Superhero genre has a mass appeal, but people need to know about this game - or rather it's replacement.
So .... that's my take on it.
If this game is saved - CoH2 is the only way forward IMHO -
Interesting information indeed, but there's a serious lack of supportive evidence for things like CoH backlash impacting GW2 sales. While I'd agree that people are pist and many are likely Never going to touch another NCSoft product, I doubt that there are enough who won't purchase GW2 to impact sales numbers greatly.

Very informative, but at the same time helps me reinforce the fact that GW/WoW type games aren't for me. :-p

Quote:Yeah, I found it a funny turn of direction with the ratio of Heroes:Villians from when I left pre-i13 to returning pre-i19.There's definitely much less people on Freedom at the hours I play. At 11pm GMT+1 villainside has about 60-70 players - down from 200ish before. Heroside has about 200 players - down from 600ish before.
(These numbers are from the LFG search, using level and/or archetype filters to get relatively accurate results; give or take a few as people might log off and on during the process). -
I'd have to disagree to the point of being polar. Before the announcement, I'd see atleast 100-150 globals listed in Pinn Badges (yes I realize it's not a true server listing, but bare with me). I've rarely seen over 50 globals from the same listing since. Keep in mind that I'm normally on somewhere between 8p-3a so I don't know what the numbers are when I'm not working. I also can't even guess at how many Pinns are bouncing around servers to other toons they have (IE: Exalted). There's been a definite morale hit and even I'll admit to being in some form of denial.

Keep in mind that it's entirely possible that some of our own devs could easily find themselves working on said game if the opportunity arose. Would you really want to hurt their career options?

They're likely talking about playerbase, so in a way Yes.

Quote:As I'm sure others would point out, with any upgrade there's a chance that you could upgrade beyond your current power capacity. IDK, but 500W just seemed medium to low powered for some reason. Someone more 'in the know' will respond I'm sure. :-pSorry about the rant though, and thanks for the response. Speak to me as if I'm a child if you don't mind, and specifically tell my why I would need a new power source; Will the one on board be unable to run the intended card upgrade at all? And if that's the case, what is an affordable alternative/upgrade that you can think of, if you don't mind?
Thanks a lot! -
Beyond the whole no other game chatter response, you probably need to get a higher watt P/S as well.

Yeah, I couldn't get the store to load at all and when I asked *insert random player name* they said that they believed it to be down as well. Which sucks because I have costumes that I'd forgotten to backup and the whole Sentinel+ backup won't work on locked toons.
EDIT: It's working now, but REALLY slow so be patient!
Re-Edit: I kept getting that error mentioned above by others. -
Quote:Ok, I tried to get this answered in a related thread, but I guess I wasn't coming across clearly. I understand how to Use 'demorec', how to name the file, etc, but what is the required implimentation? Obviously, if I start demorec and move around, then the playback will show exactly what I did and saw movement wise. I did a test to where I simply started it, waited like 5-10 seconds and ended the recording. I played the recording using the appropriate launcher method (-demoplay File_Name) and saw my toon standing still for 5-10 seconds. It does not preserve SG bases, but fortunately there is already a way to do that.
Just walk into the base and type /demorecord yoursgname
That's it. You can zone out or log out, or type /demostop after that. Then look in your COH Install directory under client_demos, and find the file named yoursgname.cohdemo. Save it -- that's your base. There's an encoded data block inside that includes the full layout of the base, including the contents of storage bins.
Fortunately we already know what the format is and will be able to write tools at some point to do useful things with it, like generate an overhead map, or a report of what items were stored.
Was that all I needed to do to record the many intricate details of the base or was I supposed to walk through each room, opening storage bins as I went? The last response I was given made it sound to me like I was going to be able to do that, play the recording, and freewalk the base within the recording being played back.
A question about ingame screenshots. How far into the game do I have to be to take a screenshot? Obviously I should be atleast at the character list, but can I take shots there or must I be fully logged into a character? -
I tried to gain access to locked toons on Beta and Test last nite. Test flat refused because I wasn't VIP and beta refused to unlock any AT that was covered by VIP status and not already purchased. Considering the market was down (must have tried a dozen times), there was no way to purchase said ATs, thus preventing the use of this tool on those toons. It sucks because I've got a few good toons on beta that for some reason don't have their costumes backed up! Here's hoping for Nov being full server existing toon unlock.

I've tried to play through the fair number of 'options' out there, but each one fell on its face for me. This will never be replaced short of a properly thought out successor.

just in case, try not to install it to the default location. Do something like "c:\games\COH\" instead.

Quote:Yeah, there just like the IOA, only we're pointing the fingers, and there the one's at fault. It's as he says. You can review my racap here, or watch the video of the coffee talk here, and listen to the words spill from Zwill's own mouth
There is no grand conspiracy of Cryptic holding out on a license; NCSoft Corporate, for reasons that will be unknown to most people (due to contractual NDAs with the Paragon Studios staff) chose to do this on their own accord.
-
ok, that was easy enough. I've read that it records the base, contents, etc. So does that mean all I'd have to do is be inbase, type the commands (standing still) in sequence, and a minute later have a fully detailed file on the base? Or do I actually have to walk around the base opening everything I can find? I'm sure there's a thread on this, but my search-fu tends to be weak. :-/

Between Sentinel+, Screenshots (remembering to SAVE every 100 or two), and an SS (recording what's listed + related globals) I think I should be good. Can somebody Please point me to the proper way to DemoRec or is that actually builtin to Sentinel+?
