Quote:I took /Mental for World of Confusion, and picked up Drain Psyche with the logic of "Hey, at least then I won't have to take stamina." (this was back before I18)... am I the only one who loves the massive -Rech in psychic scream as well as the extra damage? Seriously? You could rip Drain Psyche out altogether and I'd probably still roll */mental.
Because, I mean, what else is it good for? It's not like regen means much on a blaster, right?
... more seriously, I only have five powers from my secondary. The ST immob, Mind Probe (as a set mule, and VERY rarely for punching through sufficiently high resistance with a psi hole), Concentration (which I sometimes consider dropping, and might still someday), Drain Psyche, and World of Confusion.
If I didn't HAVE to take the ST Immob, I wouldn't have. I never use the thing. Ever.
I can accept Psychic Scream is a good power from an objective standpoint, but the aesthetics are completely wrong for my blaster, so, I'll never take it. -
Quote:Apropos of nothing, I'd rather navigate IP sans travel than Skyway. At least with IP I've been able to hit autorun in the water instead of constantly navigating over things. And I can't see how Skyway City is difficult for anyone without Fly, considering that both Super Jump and Teleport make light work of the zone and Super Speed is well fast enough to be able to look for ramps going up, even when there aren't direct routes under the bridges. The only way the zone could be a problem is if you tried to play it without a travel power, in which case I direct you to Independence Port for how much fun THAT is.

Quote:I haven't seen any statistics in a while for something like this, but I seem to recall that Blizzard's research indicated that the percentage of their MMO's population that lagged behind in system specs was higher than one might expect. It's not unreasonable to not continue to support such a setup, especially since probably less than 0.5% of the players have a system less than twice those specs today. At some point, folks really are going to have to upgrade their systems. I'd be tickled pink if every five years or so, the game has an engine upgrade significant enough to basically raise the minimum specs up to what the average was when the last engine upgrade was.

Quote:ha! See? I averted this result by not HAVING any IO'd 50s aside from my blaster!I don't much care what sort of love blasters get, as long as they get it.
I'm enjoying playing my IO'ed to the teeth fire/ice through the DA content, but often catch myself thinking how much *easier* everything would be on pretty much any of my other 'main' characters.
I win! -
Quote:Concur.I actually switched to it for a year to see if I would eventually grow to like it. Needless to say, while I'm sure there are lots of players out there who like punches, I'm back to the backflip. Its the sexiest attack in the game.
I'd love to be able to mix the Street Justice animations with just that one animation. I think it would be wonderful.
Sadly, I cannot do this. -

I guess the moment I most favor in my history was a bit over a year and a half ago.
I had mostly filled my (at the time) build plan for my blaster, but hadn't yet fully discovered the wonders of Drain Psyche yet; I just thought it was a good way to get endurance without Stamina, so most of my survivability was pretty much just my S/L defense from IO slotting (plus Tough).
It was a full team doing Dr. Kahn, and midway through one of the maps covered with Fifth Column troops, I had an epiphany: "These guys are mostly lethal damage. THIS could be AWESOME!"
So I just.. took a right turn and just.. picked a spawn to fight all by myself. I hadn't gotten nearly as much combat tuning for damage throughput at the time as I do now, so.. I was at it a while. Just... fighting this one spawn of +0/x8 L50 5th column. Eventually, one of the scrappers on the team realized I was off by myself and came over to help...
... and instead, she just watched me for a while. By the time I finished that one spawn, the team had finished the objectives on the map.
"So.. Uh. Nice scrapper you have there," was the comment I finally got. Then we moved on to finish the TF.
For 2010, that was pretty nice validation. -
Quote:Pfft, this is the internet. Strongly worded opinions hold sway in this land.I'm looking at blasters based on the value of the tools and not on the ability for a small segment of the player population to overcome discrepancies in those tools.
That blasters singularly underperformed everyone else on average is a historical fact. Asking why is an interesting intellectual exercise that is neither necessary nor sufficient for improving them. Not being able to think up a reason does not call that fact into question. -

Quote:I think that'd do it, as long as they could be reallocated on respec.Using then in earlier powers does potentially free slots for use in later powers. But it does suggest an alternative.
What if you got one at 15, one at 25, and one at 35 but you didn't need to use them then? Suppose they were awarded like special salvage, and worked like enhancement boosters worked, only they affected the slot and not the enhancement in the slot. And suppose they could be reallocated upon a respec. Would that then be good enough to replace having three extra slots?
There goes my thoughts on putting two sets of 4 into Deflection in Shield Defense. -
Quote:At 25, 27, and 29, you would be limited to a very specific subset of your career powers for allocating these super slots. At best, this excludes your primary tier 9, your secondary tier 8 and tier 9, and your epics.Three double-strength slots instead of three extra slots. Interesting enough to be worth exploring? What if I threw in a kicker that any set IO slotted into those superslots would be worth two enhancements for set bonus calculation purposes? Worth exploring then?
It's a fascinating idea, though, and has intriguing possibilities for build variation. I'm just not sure if limiting them to powers you've obtained by your late 20s is necessarily a good idea. I don't know that it's a bad one, mind you, but that deserves careful consideration. -
Quote:Or are you saying you are saying or saying or what?I like KB and my favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip. Are you saying that since you hate KB and you play characters with a lot of KB that you believe most people who hate KB play characters with lots of KB anyway, or are you saying most don't but you're an exception, or are you saying you believe that somewhere among the words I've typed I said that there exist no players that hate KB and play any character that has a lot of knockback, and you are attempting to provide a counter-example?
-
Insert 'not sure if serious' image macro here.

Quote:Can't you just give a counter-example? You seem to be kind of backlogged on things to exhaustively explore. In either case, to disprove the statement that "the advantages of Knockback are not worth the disadvantages" I need only come up with a counter-example. But rather than do that, it would be more definitive to prove the inverse: that knockback's advantages outweigh its disadvantages on average, across all situations.

Gunstar, try to imagine for a moment that Arcanaville isn't actually directing any hostility at you.
She has a tendency to try to set records straight, but that doesn't mean she's attacking you. It means she's pointing out errors. That's all.
Just because you said things that are erroneous doesn't mean you're a target, or a victim. It means you were wrong. And that's okay, as long you can see how you were wrong when it's shown to you, and accept it.
Life is a lot easier when you can recognize that you've made mistakes and that they aren't the end of the world. -

Quote:Because a large amount of the time no FoM stacks will be active. IE travel, any long downtime between mobs, using EotS or SS as the last attack against a spawn, etc.Quote:During those periods of time you're not in combat either: +DMG also has no effect.
** I started to type 'or /Nin tools' before remembering the devs opted out of giving these tools to stalkers. Yes, I'm still a little bitter about that. -
Quote:You're assuming that all mob logic would necessarily be linear logical steps executed per mob. With all those "if" statements that the mobs would have to go through it'd crash the servers!

I'm all for smarter AI but at some point...it is just a script and will get "routine" after a while.
There are other ways, involving powers, to influence how mobs react.
More importantly, it's important NOT to try to get mobs to strictly emulate certain behaviors, because that's where a lot of gameable behavior (or AI uncanny valley quirks) comes in.
The goal is to give them tendencies that can be influenced by circumstance, not rules to follow. -
Quote:And I use Stylish, so my forums look like nobody else's at all.Being really, brutally honest?
I use adblock, so I have no background at all. It's nice and clean. I would love an option like that. I know theming is a part of marketing as much as anything else - but an "official" option that looks just like I have it now, with the COH logo up top and nothing else, would be lovely.

Quote:This is exactly why I used the term 'content nexus'.Making the AE a place, and a very big place comparable to Pocket D, could allow for expanding its role in the game and getting another shot at tapping its potential. Form follows function: think about all the ways we might want to leverage the AE, and then design a space that can accommodate that.
Its probably a hard sell. But not an impossible sell. You just have to find the right hook, and the right pitch. I don't think I have the magic pitch myself for this at the moment, but I can see an avenue to attempt it. -
Quote:Funny thing. The majority of my post was not about the system components, it was about content. Specifically, aspects of content that would be in common with a zone revamp, since mission maps are made by content developers and mission maps are not a system element.I completely support a revamp of AE as I think it could be an amazing system - but this particular forum is not about systems; it is about zones.
You know how every time on uStream Zwillinger has a guest who is talking about powers, or character design, or story content and it's time for questions and people continually ask about PvP and Bases?
Same thing.
You're asking the wrong tree.
So, not the same thing, and characterizing it that way is more than a little unfair.
