  1. Whichever one you have most fun with would be the only answer worth paying attention to.

You can have the perfect build, perfect teams, and a fantastic Exp/minute rate. But if that toon isn't fun to play you're hardly likely to enjoy playing it.

A more complicated answer would be that there is no 'best' each seperate combination of power sets will have strengths and weaknesses, learning which combination is right for you is one of the biggest steps towards finding YOUR best PvE scrapper.
  2. Just a quick thought, and possibly already been mentioned, but seriously (and I do mean SERIOUSLY) consider fitting Choking Cloud into builds ASAP.

I use it constantly on my Fire / Rad troller and I cannot even begin to describe how much easier it makes life when compared to not using it.

I'm able to happily hurl my toon into stupidly large groups of mobs after a quick blast with Cages and let CC and Hot Feet do pretty much all the work, and when you get your Imps life wil just get easier still.

As a Fire / Rad I found myself blitzing groups faster than Flashfire could recharge so this tactic came in remarkably useful, though YMMV
  3. I won't be taking part, apart from politely (or perhaps not so politely, depending on the toon I'm using at the time) refusing to sign anything if asked.
  4. I know it's not one of the sets you were initially considering, but would */ninjitsu not be a viable option?

It's a Def based set like /SR, but comes ready with it's own self heal, thus freeing up a power choice for another power of your choice.

Just a thought, I'm not a big numbers kinda guy, so can't quote the actual defense figures of Ninjitsu in comparison to Super Reflexes, but it's always my prefered choice for stalkers
  5. [ QUOTE ]
A robot that can create anything at all at will or on command using improbability meachanics is certainly a ridiculously overpowered character that a great many RPers might well ignore.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is possibly (just my PoV onthe matter, could be way off the mark here) one reason why the Scotbot's player was well known for his plot-dodging abilities and the erratic behaviour of the wee robots
  6. Veskit

    Outta here.

    No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now how is Alita supposed to collect the whole set of ScotBot action figures?
  7. [ QUOTE ]
I was disscussing with Raven this, and thought, what the heck I'll share it withthe world. I think it's funny, and maybe a bit insulting considering my heroes ages , that, all the NPC heroes, save maybe a few like myself and raven who doesn't actually sign or not sign any petitions, who ask people to sign their petitions are discribed as young male heroes, often alot younger than themselves.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Personally, I used a young trainee hero as the bearer of the petition as, IMHO, it would be the younger and ultimately less experienced generation of Paragon's hero population that would be first to agree to the principle aim (that being the recognition of the non-superpowered heroes)

For those who've seen more of the harsh realities of heroic life (the loss of friends and loved ones, injuries, emotional hardships etc) would look a little deeper into WHY the sudden outcry.

A gross generalisation I know, but it tends to be the younger age groups that are more idealistic than the older, more set in their ways groups (and this carries over quite often IRL, and has even been seen at GG in the time I've been attending, with newer attendee's comign up with heaps of ideas for making things "better" while the older RPers try to show them how these ideas have failed in the past.)

    [ QUOTE ]
Even though this particular plot device has sparked both IC and OOC arguement, i feel that despite it's many criticism, it has engaged the RP community on CoX as a whole, in both good and bad ways and that is pretty darn rare in itself in any online game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, the last time I saw something that managed to spark such wide spread participation within the RP community was the Requiem war plot. And if this turns out to be even half as much fun then I can only consider it a good thing

    ***

(Please note, the mentioning of past rifts between new visitors to GG and the older attendee's is NOT intended to cause further debate, but merely to serve as an example of "youthful" enthusiasm sometimes lacking a little clear thinking. As several have pointed out (myself included) the original petition did have some fairly blatant (IMHO) Anti-Hero messeges, though they were glossed over by the primary aim which is in fact a rather noble cause.

And I really wish I was able to make sense when I type instead of just waffling randomly, ahh well, Sleep deprivation FTW!!! )
  8. (( Thanks, wasn't quite the angle I was hoping for when I started typing it up but it all seemed to fit.

    HOWEVER.......

    [ QUOTE ]
His portrayal as a brutal thug, who's answer to everything is violence is great too, especially in the hints at child battering and his threats on an 18yr old kid who'd respected him but annoyed him unintentionally.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In no way, shape or form did Ves suggest that his son would get beaten for straying from the straight and narrow. There are MANY ways to punish someone without resorting to physically beating them. and this counts even more when the person concerned is a mere child.

As for the threats to the 18 year old petition carrier, he didn't make any. the statement he made simply says he might have to beat some sense into someone. Ves has developed the ability to seem threatening without actually making direct threats during his time in Paragon. This was just another example of that ability being put to use. If questioned (and he WOULD offer to take a telepathic scan to confirm anything he says) he would simpley say he was refering to the local Tsoo gangs, and that he didn't want his son out when they arrived in the area (yeah he's also kinda sneaky like that)

And just before I go, I'd like to point out that I'm pretty much agreed with Raven, the wording on the OP does make this come across as Anti-Hero propaganda, which is exactly how Ves saw it, hence his reaction to the overly enthusiastic petition carrier being somewhat less than cheerful. Now if it was a petition to have statues of these 'regular heroes' erected alongside those of super-powered ones, he'd sign in an instant ))
  9. I've played and enjoyed a wide range of scrappers in my time in CoH, and have loved pretty much all of them (apart from all the /regen ones I've played, but that's just me)

If it's AoE carnage you're looking for, then both Spines and Claws are more than capable of ticking all the correct boxes, and when paired with a complimentory secondary set like DA (for Death Shroud, another nice mass orange number maker) or Invuln (Ooooo a built in taunt aura which makes you both harder to hit and more accurate, always nice)

I find myself drawn to Claws as a primary more often than not, mainly because I like the way they look, but also for handy powers like Focus (nice damage, nice range, and it knocks enemies down, perfect opening attack imo) which would serve well for when you play 'squishie guardian'
  10. Ves leaned casually against the front door of his Talos beach house, a happy smile on his face as he watched little Tommy playing in the sand with a few shells he’d found earlier during their walk along the tide line. This was why he’d retired, to be a father to his son, instead of just some guy who came home when he could.

“Umm… Excuse me sir, I’m sorry to bother you but I thought I recognised you from a picture in a magazine recently. You’re Veskit right?”

Ves turned to find a young, fresh faced boy, no more than 18 years old, looking nervously up at him. Turning his attention back to the young child on the beach he gave a half-hearted shrug “Depends, who wants to know?”

“Oh I’m sorry sir, forgot my manners for a second there. I’m David Price, trainee hero of sorts. I’m not fully registered yet; don’t even have a working name yet. However, I was hoping you’d take a look at this petition, and hopefully add your name to the list of supporters?”

With another shrug Ves takes the forms from the boy and begins to read carefully, glancing up to check on Tommy from time to time. “You do realise what this is saying right? And that if I add my name to the list I’d need my head slamming off a wall for gross stupidity.”

David seemed rather shocked by the response “Whatever do you mean sir? It’s just trying to get the poor folks that work hard for the good of the city a little recognition. Is that such a bad thing?”

“The concept is all well and good, but when it’s carried across with all this anti-hero propaganda [censored] it does more harm than good. Look at this bit here The city puts up statue after statue of the super-powered, sending the message to the kids out there that if you can't be super-powered, you can't be anyone. So the kids turn to 'dyne or gangs If that’s not trying to blame every hero and heroine in this city for the failings of the city’s pathetic parents then I’m a clockwork soldier.”

Ves points to Tommy as he fixes David with a cold glare “You see that little one there on the sand? Well he’s my boy, and he’ll never go near any gang, or touch any of the messed up drugs on the streets. And do you know why? It’s because if he does, he knows his mom and dad will punish him for it, because that’s our job.”

Turning his attention back to the papers in his hand Ves points out another section “And this bit here The non-super-powered police who's vigilance and stake-outs lead heroes to foil bank raids. The skilled but not super-powered medics who save hundreds of heroes around the clock at the emergency mediport wards in hospitals around the city. The tireless lawyers who actually prosecute cases against criminals You do realise that those people get paid to do what they do, they get medical insurance, health plans, days off, and once they retire they get pensions. You know what the heroes get? We get to spend our days being shot at, stabbed, hit, kicked, and beaten round the head with a wide variety of blunt implements. And when they retire they get nothing. No reward for all the work they’ve done keeping the streets clear of the scum the cops are too afraid to deal with, no pension to fall back on to provide for their families. And what of the ones that fall trying to defend the ungrateful clowns who live in the nice safe city? You think the city does anything for their families?”

Angrily Ves snorts then spits onto the petition “That’s about the best you’ll get from me kid. I lost faith in the people of this city when they turned on me and my friends because one lunatic kicked off a rumour we were terrorists. You really think I’m gonna support them in any way? As far as I’m concerned this city owes the heroes that protect it more than it can ever hope to repay. A little respect would be a good start, but with filth like this floating about, it seems even that is too much for some. Now get the hell out of my face, I’m trying to spend time with my boy, and I really don’t want him to see me beating some sense into anyone before he’s had his lunch”

    A clown bows out

Well mate, I can't say I'm too surprised by this, I know RL has been more than good to you lately (regardless of the minor upset not too long ago)

However, I never thought I'd say this, but I'll miss you dude.

From drunken TF's at god forsaken hours of the morning with half the team too busy giggling over Team Speak to do ANYTHING (Free I'm looking at YOU! ) to 5 rather intoxicated gamers trying to direct a taxi home from Manchester.

The help you gave me getting Ves to 50, all the advice I recieved when I started out with PhantoMime, and introducing me to the whole LLOD crew, just a few things I'll remember you for in-game, but most importantly just you being a class fella to chat to at 2am (either in-game or over the phone)

You'd better stay in touch mate, because you know I'm gonna hae some serious celebrating to do some time this year, and it wouldn't be the same without you buddy.

Gone but not forgotten, "Send in the clowns!" will still be a battle cry to be feared by the mobs of Paragon, and will serve as a fine tribute to the darkest clown I ever met.

Good luck mate, and here's hoping that you're more than happy with whatever you decide to move on to.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
A low level character may not have actually done much in the city and so may not be well known, but someone who is level 20+ is very likely to have had their picture taken and hero name found out.

So basically what I'm saying is that unless someone puts in their info that their character actively avoids getting their picture taken and avoids people finding out their hero name then I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone to walk up to them and say "Hey, aren't you Soandso? I saw your picture in the paper."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, there's 2 things I'd like to comment on here.....

    1) Character level bears little / no relevance to RP, apart from meaning your toon doesn't have to walk around the city, and will have more out fits to choose from when they go out.

    This leads nicely onto.....

    2) Let's use my main Ves as an example. He happens to be lvl 50, has been around Paragon for over a year now, and has at various times in his career been in the local press (usually not recieving praise). However, since he no longer lives in Paragon, hasn't worked as an actual 'hero' for a while, and spends far too much time in Icon stores for his bank balance's well being, it wouldn't really make sense for anyone that has seen his picture in the papers to recognise him if they passed him on the street, regardless of what he happens to be wearing.

The same can be applied to plenty of other people that attend GG meets, and more than likely any other RP meet in-game. When all that stands between your hero and their public is a thin layer of spandex, it's often better to just replace a suit after a tough day of being puked on by zombies, zapped by little robots, shot, stabbed and generally beat on etc than going to all the trouble of trying to patch up all the holes.
  13. Shouldn't have too many problems with endurance to be honest (during normal playing conditions, start taking on Malta and EVERYONE does)

With Ves I only start gasping for breath when, with all toggles + Focused Acc + hasten running, I go up against something like a GM where I'm firing off attacks non-stop. However, since you're also taking Conserve Power, I don't see you having any problems.

(I have been able to stand toe to toe with a GA'd Stone / Stone Tanker in the arena, and with sensible use of Conserve Power was able to maintain a constant stream of attacks and Dull Pain's for just short of 30 solid minutes. Would have won as well if it wasn't for Claws lacking the really big hitters like those from BS or MA)
  14. While I agree with Shannon on pretty much every point, there's just one thing I'd like to point out.

Shockwave, while a very nice attack with quite impressive damage potential if used carefully, is one of those powers you'll either love or hate.

Personally I hate it, though this is more due to the secondary sets I've taken with both my Claws scrappers as they require the mobs to stay within close proximity for an important power to be effective (Invincibility and Death Shroud) than anything else. However, the idea of scattering all the mobs I'm grouping up to unleash Spin upon just seems to go against my play style. Not saying it's a bad power, not by any stretch of the imagination, just not for everyone.

Give it a try, at worst you'll respec it out at a later date (or, if you tested it on the training room, never actually put it into your build on Live anyway)but you may just find yourself loving it to bits and kicking mobs into corners every chance you get

    OK . . .> If i remake im am thinking as a PVE/PvP Build Either:- Bs/Regen Or Kitanna/SuperReflex??
Unless you guyz can come up with a better PvE/PvP Build, and bar ein mind i solo quiet Alot ATM, I find it hard to get a team ALL! The time .Anaywayz TTFN!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

BS/Regen is good, though I'm really not a fan of the /regen set myself and deleted mine several months ago

Kat/SR is huge fun. Mine is a current work in progress, but speaking to any experienced Kat/SR player will be more than likely to give the same responce
  16. Veskit

    Just curious...

    Just to clarify....

When you say duels I assume 1 on 1 match ups, (taking place in the Arena for hero Vs hero fights if both toons are below Warburg lvl).

Am I totally off the mark, or is that pretty much right, 'cause if it is I might just have to drag a few friends there for a little practice......
  17. Veskit

    Where to begin?

    [ QUOTE ]
Anyway, the Scotbots have a much wider range of produce available to you: Chocolate, sandwiches, drinks of all kinds, monkeys, crisps, cakes, strategic nuclear arms, pastries, confectionery, anthrax, roast chicken, Linda McCartney products, Linda McCartney, ice cream... You name it, the Scotbot'll warp probability to make sure you get it. If it feels like it. And there's no scope whatsoever for creative misinterpretation of your request.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is why I love seeing the Scotbots at GG, never ending hilarity.
  18. Veskit

    Where to begin?

    [ QUOTE ]
Blimey, if Sam got offered mints she'd probably go spare, and project a mental image to everyone nearby with a rather graphic view of what he can do with his mints...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ves'd pay good money to see that
  19. Veskit

    Just curious...

    Hey there

I've been playing CoX for just over a year now, and have never really tried the whole PvP side of the game. Well I think it's about time I gave it a whirl, and so I look to the more experienced PvPers for advice.

Along with the toons in my Sig, I'm currently lvling a Kat/SR scrapper and an MA/Regen scrapper, and would like to know which (if any) of them would be a viable choice for taking into places like Sirens, BB and possibly even Warburg.

As yet none of the toons in question have a dedicated PvP build, but that's something that can be worked towards as I continue to lvl them, with a final respec some time in the future.

Any advice would be a huge help, as I'd really like to enjoy all aspects of the game and not just the PvE side of things (after all, there's only so many times you can beat down the same AV's before it gets a bit dull really)

    Thanks in advance
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Im sorry but unless you have 2 end reduct SO's in every single power with invul you will have endurance problems.

Especially if you have tough n FA

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh Sheep, you make me laugh. I've never had End problems with my Invul scrapper.

Have you ever actually played an Invul scrapper?

Hell are you even playing the same game as the rest of us?
  21. Veskit

    Fire/Rad advice

Personally I much prefer Choking Cloud to Cinders, but that's probably due to the way I've built my Fire / Rad.

For either of them to take effect you have to be stood right in the thick of the action, and I'd much rather have a toggle that takes care of holding anything within real close proximity as it leaves me free to focus more on locking down the mobs on the out-skirts of the pack.

That and the fact that it's nice to be able to debuff, Fire Cages + FlashFire a large group, then jump into the middle of them knowing that between Choking Cloud, Hot Feet and my imps there's not going to be too much that is going to have much chance to do anything to me or the team I'm on.
  22. Commenting from a scrappers PoV, I much prefer it when the team's tanker lets the rest of the team know exactly what's going on, where they're pulling to, and in the event of something going wrong yelling a warning so the rest of us can prepare for what's to come.

I personally do the exact same thing myself when teaming with a few friends if we don't have a tank ( /Invuln keeps me standing long enough to hold aggro from a fair sized group of mobs ) because if the rest of the team know what's going on things run a whole lot smoother.

Ignore the clearly foolish complaints of one impatient person. If the rest of the team have no issue with you yelling out a running commentary then I don't see what the problem is.
  23. OMG!!!

People agreeing with me, something has clearly broken in the world, make it stop, i wanna get off before we crash into the sun or something
  24. *imagines the possible 'live' shows held in F-F-A Arena matches (for those rowdy members of the audience, and allowing both heroes and villains to participate via Pocket D)*
  25. Currently this little experiment is lvl 8 (and a half) and thus far has proven highly enjoyable to play.

Never really considered PvP when planning it out, though it could well be possible in the future (even if the only reason I'm in the PvP zones is to get my hands on the temp powers and the accolade which requires one of the badges from a PvP zone IIRC) I tend to build for PvE, I can always respec at a later date into a more competative build.

And you're right LF is a bit of an End hog, so I tend to only use it when doing solo missions as it allows me to herd up 2 or 3 of the small groups together, quickly building Fury and softening up the ones that I'm not smashing into the ground (gotta love the knockdown on Air Sup' comes in handy for stopping those nasty Lt's and bosses from hitting me in the face while they get up )

My main concern was taking Conductive Shield so late, though I can always drop Build Up and shuffle a few early powers round to get it nice and early if need be (yay for Vet reward respecs, the perfect solution to my regular stupid mistakes)

Thanks for the advice on slotting as well, will have to play around and see what I can do about that.
