To make things more amusing, Alec Holland is the ultimate savior, while the Dark Avatar is a corrupted Swamp Thing (infected by the Black Lantern and not having Holland's memories and consciousness driving it). It's taken awhile, but im really intrigued to see where this is going.
-
Right, but before the ending of the last Swamp Thing series, i think whoever was working on the title retconned a lot of the mythos to how it was before Moore took over the character.
-
Now THAT is the Green Lantern movie i want to see! They frak this up, im gettin' me a lynch mob.
-
The bright side is that given the folks in charge of the reboot, they could cast almost anyone and id be interested in seeing it. So Adams could work out, but ill reserve judgement until i see some trailers and hope they arent influenced at all by Millar's movie concept.

Im interested. Marvel's been slacking lately with their animated movies.

Quote:Both series were only supposed to go till issue #25 or 26, the 2 series taking up the spot occupied by the year long weekly titles of the past couple years. As always a good idea, but falls apart a little in execution. IMO generation lost has been consistently the stronger of the two titles, whereas BD has been meandering since the beginning and only now is really starting to come together.Brightest day is rapping up pretty quickly it seems and the various GL titles and stories seem to be leading to another major event that "could" change the DCU. I don't like the story that I am predicting which is being clued to within the pages of Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, and Brightest Day... I haven't read Generation Lost, but it looked like a good title, I just didn't want to add it to my list of stuff to read.
but while Gen Lost is doing well, i don't think they're really sure where they want to go with Brightest Day, or even if it's tying into the current Green Lantern storyline (which is running through all 3 GL titles, and btw, War of the Green Lanterns started this week and it is AWESOME). does make me wonder if they're going to be dropping another weekly title into the slot, or if DC has decided to stop doing them. -
Quote:Gygax grognards unite!!!1989? bah!
Pries his D&D softcover red book off the shelf from next to the Gygax signed AD&D hardcover...
(now I can't dodge the old label. dang)
in all seriousness ive some fond memories of playing V:tM (and was one of those rare non-emo vamps. gawds, i loved playing Tremere or Ravnos), so if this is available elsewhere, ill most likely be picking up a copy. (Though yeah, i was a bigger Werewolf & Mage fan than Vamp.) -
20... years? No... it hasn't been... i mean.

Quote:I was more interested in seeing the Watchers show they originally wanted, focusing on Joe and Methos. but the idea of the Immortal thief did have some promise. the big problem came in when they shoehorned in the detective to have someone around so we'd constantly have the "will she reform for the mortal or wont she?" bull ****. there was probably way more wrong, but i stopped watching after three or four episodes, and havent watched them since their first run.I have to disagree. Putting her in her own show had potential. It just failed to live up to any of it. I say this, as someone who loved staying up and watching some rather bad shows late at night, that got multiple seasons, which in prime time would of been cancelled.

When i heard that Marvel was going to be doing relaunches of at least some of the CrossGen titles, i was both psyked and incredibly wary. Marvel does not have a great track record when it comes to taking someone else's ball and running with it, especially if they pretty much intend to bury it just out of spite. *cough* Ultraverse *cough*
That having been said, im still looking forward to both of these miniseries and hope it opens the door for future CrossGen come backs. The only big gripe i have thus far is that both of the books are taking place (at least as far as i can tell) on Earth and i think it loses a little bit of the flavor the original various series had because of it, but i can get by it if the reboots are interesting enough. In both cases im eyeing the two series pretty critically since both titles (Sigil & Ruse) were among my favorite of the old line.
so of course, ive picked them up.
Sigil #1; Haz already covered the basics, so i dont feel much need to retread old ground here. So ill just jump in and say it's nice to see some callbacks to the old series. For those folks who were familiar with CrossGen works, while the title said Sigil, i actually got more of a Meridian vibe from this comic. i hope they drop most of the school stuff quickly, since it's seems to be little more than filler to show the audience "oh look, the girl is strange! but she's got problems just like you!" Overall a pretty decent first issue though, set up the basic premise easily enough, gets you into the action, and i dont have any overwhelming desire to strangle the main character when she talks. good signs generally that this could be worth following around for another couple months. the story is okay, but to be honest im looking to see what else from the past stories get involved here, since it seems Sigil is going to be the title that reboots as much of the CrossGen universe as Marvel will be comfortable with.
Ruse #1, right. This was probably my favorite series aside from Negation. Holmes style detective on a world permanently settled into the Victorian era and riddled with steampunk, magic, and etc. with only a brief connection to the rest of the sigil bearers in 'emma'. This time around, we're on earth, and while there does seem to be some of the steam punk type gadgets around, this seems to be a more straight up Holmes' homage than the original. With Ruse coming across even more acerbic than the first time through. Though, it does set up the series nicely, intros the characters well and is familiar enough for an old fan to dig it and wonder where they're going, and for new folks to jump on without having ever picked it up before. The art is a little... off. i dont know what it is, but something about just doesnt look right. Like an expression will be drawn oddly or there's an angle choice im not happy with. little nitpicks that i can get over with because the story is alright, and it has been (ugh) almost ten years since Waid last wrote for the character.
Overall a good attempt from both titles, and i hope they do well enough to see more CrossGen titles get released from Marvel. -

Quote:think of it in terms of the Bond films (before Craig), or the Batman movies (before Nolan). they didnt really follow a set continuity, but were able to perpetually change the cast & crew fairly often. i tend to think of those as sequels even if the stories dont directly follow what happened in the previous movies.I think the line gets pretty blurred once you change actors/directors, place the main character in a new storyline and wait 8+ years since the last one. You may be right that this will technically be a "sequel", but let's not stretch the definition of that word too much.

Im digging seeing another Daaredevil movie, but the first one was a pretty decent movie. the theatrical was alright, certainly not a great movie, and nowhere near as popular as the other comic films out at the time, but still a fun movie. the director's cut was far better though. when i hear people kvetch about the movie, the main reason is usually Ben Affleck. but i think he did alright. he worked in it about as well as Tobey did in spider-man.

If i had any confidence in hollywood to do it right, i would prefer to see a reboot of the series. One where there actually is a tangible benefit to the quickening. Not to mention something that erases the stain of the more horrible parts of the franchise. Now i dug the TV show, and was fond of the 1st movie, but looking back, the 1st movie wasn't even all that great. The story was alright and you cant beat the soundtrack (which of course, you NEED for a reboot
), but the parts of the story taking place in 'present day' was more crap than not. And Lambert was damn near blind back then, it'd be nice to get someone who could go through a nice swordfight and not make it look like the other guy was purposefully holding back because he knew his opponent couldnt see him.
Would also be nice to see stuff like the Watchers incorporated from the get go. But that's me. -

JSA --- live action or a series of animated movies. superheroes stomping Nazis! how could this be anything but awesome?
Seconding a new Flash TV series. This one id like to see have all 4 generations of Flash. Jay, Barry, Wally, and Bart.
Magnus, Robot Fighter just... because. -
Quote:the problem being PBS is funded by a combo of government financing and fund raising drives. the BBC has a somewhat similar deal IIRC. So i dont know if id really want to trade corporate sponsorship for government sponsorship in entertainment programming. In the US PBS stations. That's where I got all my Sci-Fi entertainment growing up as a kid. Didn't have cable for years as an adult either until the local cable company started offering phone/cable/internet packages.
I don't know how the BBC works in England or how they do things in other countries. -

frak, there are way too many great choices there for me to just go with one. wish theyd allow us to pick five. or in some cases list issue #s, because i recall a good number of those, but not all. and i wasnt paying attention to writer/artist teams until the '90s.

i liked Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Untouchables.

Quote:actually, Season 2 has gotten some pretty damn dismal ratings. this season has done WORSE than the first season. Also, SG:U's ratings have never been anywhere close to Jerico's ratings. if any show got what Universe did for it's first couple episodes, it never would have lasted past the first six episodes, much less made it to a 2nd season.um you do realize that season 2 was getting good ratings. And people were watching. Sorry but just because a show got canceled doesn't mean cause it was crap. Take Jerhico. And yes I was pissed when it was canceled and I was one of the people that petitioned to get it back. The same thing that happend to Jerhico happened to SGU. In fact more people were watching SGU.
sure, people may have been watching SG:U, but not nearly enough to keep it afloat.
