agreed, the last thing i want to see is them pushed into the Marvel Universe where they're going to end as little more than tertiary characters for some toolbag like Bendis to end up killing to prove his next big story arc is 'edgy'. the sad part is i should be happy someone is going to try and do something with the properties, but given that it's Joey Q, not so much. I see them trying to do CrossGen and all that flashes through my mind are MArvel's New Universe imprint, and then later that abomination that was the Marvel Ultraverse.

Quote:it would look pretty impressive done in that style. going by the same track, id kill to see the Rogue Squadron series done the same way.I dont know about her but i loved the foce unleashed and cant wait for the second one. I thought the story was absolutely great.
I was just watching the trailer the other day for the new one thinking why dont they make a new movie that looks like this? The quality of Lucas Arts cinematic trailers is just outstanding i would love to see the thrawn trilogy done in CGI that looked that good. -

and that's great. you don't like the EU stuff, you and GG feel the movies are the end-all be-all to SW. that's great. so you've got not one thing relevant to contribute to a discussion about the expanded universe beyond "i don't accept it, because George doesn't accept it." so you aren't any help here to someone asking about EU material, or those of us who like the stuff.

no. i want to like you wouldnt believe, but 'tis not in the Force this time around. *sigh* i wanna hit the lotto.

instead of partially agreeing with LJ in that i think the movie is entirely overhyped i'll simply go with, i didn't like it. though the big action sequence at the end was pretty cool, the movie was annoying. i find it odd so many other folks found it so original, but hey, compared to a lot of crap that's been peddled out, it's close enough.
also, what he said. -
Quote:so Palpatine faked his own death, in order to draw out Mace Windu, who he was absolutely sure had faked his OWN death. sounds like a racial thing to me. white man in power fears the black man.To be technical we never see him Die. Yes we see him fall with all the lighting and such and assumed he was killed.
We saw Luke fall down another shaft on Cloud City and we all know where that ended up.
Basically if you say he's dead show me the body! -
Quote:true. the bright side, there's still Dark Horse comics.Thats true the problem in the case of the star wars eu books though was that when Batman a batman story arc goes bad you still had 3-4 other batman books running to lean on. When the EU went bad they had commited fully to the NJO or later Legacy of the Force arcs and there is no where else to turn. Now if they had made the NJO say affect half the released books where you got one NJO then one independent book release, that would have been fine, i would have kept reading the independents and simply ignored the NJO. But when they changed publishers the idea of every book having to contribute to that story arc basicly turned me off buying and reading the EU books.

Quote:the idea was to bring in an enemy that wasn't the Imperial Remnant and create a mostly coherent series of books over a few years time, instead of writing a few novels that jumped from one point in time in the EU to another, and then back. execution flubbed at some points because some authors weren't as "in" with what was going as others were, and worse was some of the input Lucas tossed into the whole thing.Well it was particularly funny how even in the NJO it was many different versions of the same story. One minute the Vong were unstoppable badasses as if they'd been created by Frank Miller, the next they die like everyone else. Overall the entire idea behind NJO was just stupid.
i didn't mind the NJO, but it certainly wasn't the miserable crapfest that was the Legacy of the Force series. this isn't to say all the EU stuff is bad or good, but if a franchise goes on long enough, you're going to have equals parts awesome (The Dark Knight, X2, 'Up, Up, and Away') and equal parts crap (Batman R.I.P., Wolverine:Origins, Superman IV). -
Quote:bah, neither of the above two mentioned movies were bad. just not made of the same awesome that was Iron Man. i look at the few minutes they showed us and it looks like Brannagh has a solid hold on the character, as do the folks in the various leads. So far I'm seeing a combination of Ghost Rider movie, Daredevil movie and this..
i think we're going to end up with a damn good movie. -
the first case would obviously be batman finding the lazarus pit they dipped Jerry Orbach in.

Quote:which when he first appeared is more along the lines of what he was. sure, over the years he's been amped rather significantly, but Thor wasn't quite on par with the Hulk and this was back when they first appeared.I find myself worrying that we're not going to see Thor as Marvel's Superman, instead getting him as a peak-human who has a magic hammer.
still, doesn't mean i dont want to see him fling a tank or two around. -

Quote:for the show it worked, but i prefer Doomsday in the comics being pretty much the mindless (or at least pure animal instinct) engine of destruction crafted by Kryptonian science. Bloom/Doomsday smacked too much of shoehorning an evil Hulk into Smallville, and having him be Zod's son on top of that felt pretty weak.I also think in some ways their take on Doomsday was better than the comics. It was much more interesting to have Doomsday be the son of Zod and Ursa sent to Earth with a different agenda than Kal-El.
but then the only thing i think they did right in using Zod in Smallville was back when he was a disembodied whatever and took over Lex for a little bit. But as in all things, they pussed out on giving us an actual throwdown because they spent all their money on soap opera shots and no money trying to find a fight choreographer. -
Quote:true, but at this point, they've got the big three roles petty much locked down. (Cap, Iron Man, & Thor) there is the possibility that could all change between now and when they being filming, whenever that is, but with these particular actors i don't see them leaving the project. As always in Hollywood, stars are only truly locked into a role when they start filming said role, and even then, they can be thrown aside (Eric Stoltz and Stuart Townsend are nodding their heads right now).
but now that we've seen the heroes, let's see us some villains dammit. i don't want this flick to just be 'let's team up to beat the Hulk'. -

with all the big names involved, i'd be shocked if the first one DIDN'T generate gobs and gobs of money.
