Quote:right, the guy put together a type of movie that hadn't been seen by anyone in a while and actually treated it seriously. something no one at the time was willing to do for a special effects movie. sure, dialogue was stilted and the story was simple. but he was shooting for a straight forward, iconic story, and that's what he got with the first one. then other writers, directors, and other creative types came along and helped evolve that concept for the other two movies. they had their own themes, and they did it well. even with bringing in the ewoks (which i still have no problems with. yub nub *******!) it didn't feel like he was treating the audience like children. there are folks who were teens/adults when the first trilogy came out, and surprise, surprise, they have a lot of similar gripes when it comes to the prequels as the folks who first saw the OT when they were kids. The original trilogy wasnt herald for its acting or such or even its story. We have all heard the stories about where lucas borrowed his story elements and ideas from enough to know that little of it was an original idea. But he tweaked it to his liking as many do, and basicly created a special effects movie that few had seen at that level at that time which blew away an entire generation of kids.
sure, the movies appeal to kids, but they didn't pander to them like they were idiots. then came the prequels.
ive got my gripes, by the force i've got lists of them. but im not going to be putting any of the three of them on a 'worst movie list' anytime soon. most blown and wasted potential list perhaps. to me, there's too much in the movies that just isn't entertaining, and is just jarring when you consider they're supposed to be plugged in before the original trilogy. -
out of curiosity, didn't it require the geothermal energy of an entire planet in order to send folk to Destiny in the first place? or were they smart enough to realize ZPMs were developed after Destiny was launched and they could just use one of those (it's not like they can't find where to lay hands on one) to dial out to the Destiny? Also, just because they're still digging around in the Atlantis database (one would assume), they might eventually find a way to build their own ZPMs and couldnt they just bring a ZPM with them upon gating to the Destiny and hook that up to a planet based gate and zap themselves home?

meh, it wasn't as good as some of the other novels, but Darksaber was far from being all that bad. (and there was nothing wrong with the Jedi Academy books dagnabbit!)

Quote:and there are the ones who went to episode 1 thinking "well yeah it was total crap, but it was still Star Wars!" the next one will be better...and as I said if you don't like the movies, don't go. don't go and fork out cash then start ******** and moaning about how ****** they are. It's that simple. Those who went to Ep1 said it was horrible, and still went to see Eps2-3, knowing that Lucas was putting out sub par movies that ***** their childhood with a wooden baseball bat wielded by a creepy looking bear. (That's the gist of what I got from the nerd rage anyway)
...2 movies later...
sunnuva *****.
it's not as if people went in to the first of the prequels (eh, most people anyway) thinking "oh yeah, this is gonna be a ****fest." then when george admitted things weren't really as good as he wanted them, he kept telling fans that he'd do better, and didn't. To be honest, i found the third one to be a pretty decent movie. But that's not going to stop me from looking at it critically and realizing there were an incredible amount of flaws with it. What IS wrong, isn't that I'm going to shell out money for these prequels... again... (because, hey if you havent figured it out, im not) ...other people ARE and the gobs of money Lucas is going to make off that is just going to convince him that he did no wrong.
so again, i say, "releasing the movie in 3-D? meh, to hell with the prequels, but at least i can go see the original trilogy on the big screen again. let's just hope he doesn't screw with them even more to fit his skewed, frelled up vision." -

I've been catching up on Season One now and again on netflix. Im not a fan, but i keep watching mostly because it IS a Stargate show and the fanboy in me just can't let go. Im through the first 10 episodes, but can anyone let me know if the show's actually improved, or is it still Stargate Galactica?

Quote:may not have been a drug problem, may have just been a very stupid, very costly mistake. the article mentions it was due to an accidental overdose of prescription meds. this sucks a lot, man was damn funny. i look forward to all the inappropriate jokes about him at the next roast.Wow... I'm in shock. I never would have guessed he had a drug problem.

Quote:i wish he'd hurry up and get here so he can get the age of superbeings kick started dammit. if nothing else, widespread death and destruction from super battles will ensure the economy picks up.Now we have to worry about the inhabitants of that red dwarf star system comming to Earth, as we all know they gain superpowers when exposed to the yellow sun.

Bruce Timm is producing the Green Lantern series and Greg Wiesman is doing the work on the Young Justice series? Hrm, i was always down for the GL cartoon, but i might give YJ a look now.

Quote:if a couple of new Star Wars movies looked like the CG cinematics for Old Republic of Force Unleashed as opposed to the Clone Wars, i would totally throw cash down for it. Though, at this point, i don't want to really see Lucas dipping even more Clone Wars/Civil War era of Star Wars. i'd rather he just sit back and let the other folk who've developed some awesome story material for SW make any new movies.I thought this as well. Even if not a live action movie, when you see the quality of some of the 3-5 minute game cinematics that are being released, especially for star wars products like FU and OR I for one would be perfectly happy with a full lenght movie for FU that reached that level of realism. I think if he could whip something like that up and it did well we might be alot closer to seeing something like the thrawn trilogy on screen. One thing Lucas has always maintianed he is more comfortable in the editing room then the directors chair. And making a CG movie might be alot more to his liking them filming again.

Quote:and thankfully, until someone kicks the door down and starts spraying bullets, im allowed to express my own particular opinion and tell those people that they're wrong. because obviously there are people who DON'T like what's been done to Star Wars, i don't get how because they're displeased with what's been done, their opinions are any less valid than the folks who do like the movies. Or that just because someone does like what George has done, they have to keep their mouths shut.Until you have a few million dollars and learn how to direct films properly, STFU. It's George's baby. HIS universe HIS vision. You don't have to pay up if you don't like it. There are obviously people who DO like it.
Quote:Till then, just shut up with the nerdrage already. -
i could care less about the 3-D thing. But this is an opportunity to eventually see 4 - 6 on the big screen again. It's something i dont mind shelling out the cash for. the prequels OTOH, meh, skippable.

It's not the voices that bother me so much, though i can't stand Bader as Batman. But agree about the animation. I realize they're trying for a certain cartoony/serious style, but it just doesn't work for me. The bright side is that the DVD movies keep coming out, so B&tB doesn't bother me as much as it used to.

Quote:i remember. the hoard flavor was the same formula as the Halo one. still only a limited time thing.Yep and then game fuel was brought back for World of Warcraft as well link

it wasn't made for that long, but i miss the Mountain Dew Game Fuel that came out to promote Halo 3. good stuff.

Quote:Ecause there are moments when the show is actually worth watching. The problem is, in order to get to those moments, a body has to suffer through all the crap first. More often than not the crap is REALLY frustrating, compared to the few shining moments the show has. Besides that, while i could lay hands on the animated series DVDs, right now THIS is the only current Superman show on TV. Despite my gripes with the show, i am a fan of the character and keep hoping that it's going to get better. Or that the thing will finally be canceled and a couple years later we'll get another Superman show that won't have the same flaws the others have had.Like I said...being someone who owns all the DvDs...I understand there is a lot of things wrong with the show.
However, I still find those hating on the show to be more pointless than those who defend it...because if you hate it...why are you watching it?
The problem with ignoring something entirely is that folks who make it assume there's no redeeming qualities and eventually junk the entire project. Of course the other problem here is that if they've got enough people watching, they assume there's nothing wrong with what they're doing, so they keep on doing it.
Quote:You make an extremely good point with your LOST reference.
However, Smallville has/had the potential to keep going.
In the movie, it took him 12 years to fully develop his powers. That's 12 years after the age of 18? if I remember correctly. -
with any luck, this episode won't be their only appearance. 'sides, more heroes get time for intro's, less time for them to try and interject bad melodrama into the 'plot'.
-
It was one of the things i was expecting them to get into this season. That with the boss gone (Lucifer), all hell breaks loose, (if you'll excuse the term) so i was expecting this after a fashion. Even the somewhat 'meh' response to folks being back from the dead, happens a lot on this show. Not to fond of the extended family though. Makes a body wonder if they decide to try and get another season of the show going, and they'll try to do it without Sam & Dean.
As i said, i liked it and i want to see where it goes from here. -
Quote:Then by the same token, isn't there also little point in singing it's praises? it's already out the door so why should anyone care if the show is good or bad? in fact, why bother having an opinion at all, because having one mattered so much during the first 9 seasons.SV may be bad at times, and downright horrible at others, but complaining about it at this point, while it's walking out the door with nothing but financial and ratings success under its belt, is just self indulgent whining. There's no point to the complaints other than the typical crybaby nerd nonsense that makes up half the internet.

Quote:this of course being but one fan's opinion. The first couple season were worthwhile, but once he finished high school the entire show just dragged on and on and on and on. but then, i think this is a problem for any show that's on the air for longer than four or five seasons, so it's not like Smallville is alone in having more than a few really bad seasons. the problem being that the bad seasons were REALLY bad, and the past two seasons have brought the show up, but too many episodes are inundated with the same problems that have inundated the entirety of the show's run.It definitely has. If you like Superman and DC...it's definitely a good watch...especially the last couple seasons...minus the Doomsday finale.
Last season's ending was definitely one of the stronger endings, and i thought the opener was pretty good. the clone collection made sense, and the idea of one of them getting loose to muck with Clark worked. was damned awesome seeing Jonathan again, and i hope this isn't the only time we see him this season. the weakest part of the episode was Oliver's. even worse was the 'trade' at the end. came the hell out of nowhere. good opener, but here's hoping they dont end up dragging themselves down with too much garbage. -
not quite the direction i was picturing they were going to go. to be honest, i was hoping after they mentioned what the monster was, this was going to end up being something of a hallucination. i liked it, but there were parts of the episode that just felt weak.

Quote:actually, after watching the first Iron Man on Netflix a couple days ago, i think he was drinking the green gunk because of the Palladium then too. So i guess he realized right from the start the stuff would be poisonous.I'd say he was covering his illness. Also that stuff he was drinking in IM2 to help counter the palladium poisoning, lets go back and look at the stuff he was drinking as he was resting and icing himself after his test flight of the mark 2 armor. Same stuff?
was wondering why the "you complete me" bit wasn't in the final cut of the film. did make for a very cool trailer cut though.
