Quote:i disagree, but i do think they floundered with the character ever since Infinite Crisis, and that it was a big mistake to destroy Bludhaven. Nightwing as police officer was one of the better decisions they'd made with the character. But then came Bludhaven's destruction and then OYL and the series fell apart. I still like the character, i actually like him more than Bruce. (Tim's still my favorite of the Bat crew though, and seeing him wearing a version of the Bat costume was one of the few high points of that idiotic Battle for the Cowl mini)The character I hate the more I read about them is Dick Grayson and the fact of the matter he's handled worse than Wonder Woman to a degree...
I like Grayson as Batman, his choice in sidekicks, not so much. But even at first he didn't want to be Batman, it was only in seeing no one else was really suited for the role he stepped up and took up the cowl, and i think most of the writers have done well in showing him become a new Batman. Having Bruce back is only going to end retarding Grayson's character development. -
will this movie end with Optimus and Megatron doing a high five over the American flag right before the Transformers theme kicks in? because it should, and then things should 'BAYSPLODE!!!
-
eh, much as i liked New Frontier, i still think they did an okay job with First Flight. But suffers from the same issue as most of the other movies, too short.

Uncle Ben's still pushing up daisies.
(unless that's been changed by BND as well ?)
Also, the return mini has been pretty standard for Grant Morrison. Pretty high on the WTF? factor and fairly low to nonexistent on the "making sense as a story" factor. i know Bruce was eventually going to come back, i just wish they hadn't jumped on the fact he was still sucking air right out the gate of Final Crisis. -

Quote:i tend to pick up the trades when it comes to mini series or arcs in comic titles i dont normally collect. i try not to do that when it comes to regular monthly titles anymore since folks waiting for those to come out in trade collection affect the decision on whether or not to continue publishing the monthly titles.Competition at it's finest.
Oh, and Nethergoat, this is why I've stuck to buying the TRADES waaaaay after events are over.
I'm very behind, but at least I get a complete story in one setting. And when I buy them, I usually get the trades at a discount.
the only thing im not gonna be happy with in the price drop is seeing the page count drop back down. with DC they at least upped the overall page count and split the comics into a main story and a backup feature. it gave some face time to characters that couldn't hold a title on their own.if they regularly put out a few 40-page books that did that, i wouldn't mind shelling out 3.99$, but that's me. -
Quote:actually a drop in prices will probably be a good thing, because (and this is according to the folks running my own FLCS) it means more folks will be willing to drop the money to try other titles, or that some people who are wondering whether or not to drop certain titles will hold onto them in the long run. the profit margin between 2.99 and 3.99 is minimal as far as the FLCS's are generally concerned. of course, this is going to be something talked about quite a bit in New York.Sounds good I just wonder were does this leave Comic store owners, are they making the same profit off of each book, or is their profit margin (which Marvel and DC decide) now going to be smaller. Meaning Comic stores now must sell more books to hit the same level cash sales.
I'm not advocating the status quo, and reducing prices is something the industry has needed to do for a while. I just view it as so hard to succeed in brick and mortar retail, comics shops especially. How will this move effect comic shops?
for me this is a good thing, since i pick up quite a few DC titles, and the drop might mean a few extra $$s back in the wallet. (or knowing my stupidity, it'll mean i grab a couple extra titles or one-shots a month. fekt)
well Marvel really wants to push their digital stuff since it means they cut out the middle man almost entirely and trying to charge normal comic price on top of it. but, AFAIK, Marvel isn't exactly friendly when it comes to dealing with retailers. DC tends to throw incentives left and right, Marvel, not so much. -
there's been decent stuff on both sides, though it seems like Marvel's pretty much stalled out in the direct to DVD market. 'cuase it seems like DC is churning out a new animated movie every two or three months. IIRC, i think Apocalypse was the latest one to come out and it was pretty good.
I thought the DC Animated movies are good, but thus far New Frontier's been one of my favorites. The only real gripe i have for any of them is that i wish they ran longer. Even if it was only another ten or fifteen minutes, some of them just feel a bit cut short. -
no, he found a way to incorporate the whole thing into the universe and moved on. it's one of the few Bendis works i still dig these days. some high quality awesome normally, though im not so happy about some of what's gone down in this latest storyline.

Quote:i wouldnt put the blame on DC, but on Warner Bros. WB has plenty of other franchises going for it that they never gave a rat's *** about comic book movies that weren't Batman or Superman. Here's hoping that starts to change soon. It's pretty ridiculous that DC hasn't put out more high quality superhero films, considering how many good stories and writers they have to draw from. I really hope that Green Lantern will show them just how easy it can be so they get off their ***** and start pumping out the kind of films that we've been wanting to see.
Though if they are doing this for a Superman movie, i am less than hopeful for it. *sigh* -
Quote:that's more thought than the writer's actually put into their own idiot "no more mutants" comment.I thought the concept was, the Scarlet Witch had been subconsciously creating mutants for years, by making the gene dominant when it's actually recessive. All she did was turn things back (and possibly intentionally depower select individuals for various reasons as well)

Quote:Scarlet witch. 'no more mutants' and 'disassembled' were worse travesties than the 'RETCON PUNCH!' and there are only a few errors directly attributed to the RP, the last few years they've even admitted in the DCU itself that a lot of errors have sprung up because of the original Crisis (and a lot of the subsequent Crisis trying to 'FIX' the first one). In Marvel's case, they aren't continuity errors, it's Joe letting his popular writers do whatever the hell they want without editorial oversight unless it's one of his pet characters. (Spider-Man for example)You know, I see people say this about one of the big two or the other. (Playing a bit of devils advocate here). DC does this too. They very firmly established that recent retcons or continuity errors are from Superboy Prime punching reality. Which one is worsse?

*grumble* it doesn't seem to be on any of the stations in my area, at least according to the yahoo listings. ill dig around next Friday and hope it's on somewhere. or with any luck they'll put it online.

never shall i complain about a character in their for fanservice, so long as I am the fan being serviced. that being said, and with all the dirty implications in mind, i actually meant Eli.
Quote:i don't think atlantis started with the same limitations and intentional jeopardy that sgu started with though. the simple idea of basic survival seems to keep getting glossed over in sgu by avoidance of that same intentional jeopardy. in atlantis, considerations of basic needs such as food, water, and air are abundant when anchored to a habitable planet in a large, well stocked city. in sgu, we start with one guy dragging several 'bags' of mineral to purify the air. this might last all of a week. later, 2 guys go for water and come back with the equivalent of a vw bug in ice, for give or take 50 people. then they crossed the galactic gulf between 2 galaxies....and had a guy turned into 'steam' with nary a whisper as to 'wtf mate?'
But the problem i have is that was the concept they were pitching for BSG. None of these folks were the 'best of the best', tossed into the situation and forced to make the best of it. At least THAT was peppered with moments of action because they were getting chased by Cylons.
I sort of want to like the series, because it is the only Stargate show left, and from all indications right now, the movies are dead in the water. But thus far, there is very little in it that's worthwhile, much less making it a decent Stargate series. ah well. -
eh, i dont know about BND, but i will nominate both One More Day and One Moment in Time as actually being the worst atrocities with the Spider-Man name on it. up to and including the Indian/Bollywood Spider-Man.

can't be any worse than 3 was, so here's hoping it'll be worth admission price.
-
Quote:my thoughts exactly. Atlantis started off as if was going to be something akin to this. then they evolved past that after the first season. but that's too much hope for the current Stargate since they're so bound and determined to make it unlike the other shows in the franchise.Getting the stargate working to travel between Destiny and the Milky Way galaxy doesn't have to be the end of the show. It could just be an evolution. They wouldn't have some of the problems they currently do but I would imagine they'd still want a research team on the Destiny to study it and take stock of whatever it finds. Not to mention someone should probably be keeping on eye on the new aliens.
they have at least ONE likeable character... but yeah, i'd like the thing to look more like a stargate show and less like BSG. -
Quote:sounds like a job for Stargate SCIENCE! Get Rodney, Zelenka, and Sam on it. They'll have them home in two, maybe three episodes. These new aliens could probably help with that but it's unlikely that it will happen any time soon since that will end the show.
-
Michael Shanks guest starring as an Egyptian archeologist with access to alien technology and possibly looking for his lost love you say? hrm... i wonder if ive seen this before.

Quote:i dont know if it's really all that much more powerful. they tapped the energy of a planet, and it caused it to become unstable. they used to use a full ZPM to establish a connection to Atlantis a few times before even considering whether or not it would run dry. Presumably, if they tapped a ZPM generator or whatever that thing in Atlantis is that holds 3 of the buggers, they could easily drum up the power to dial the Destiny. You are correct, they were using a power source way, WAY more powerful than even ZPMs can achieve.
unless theyve said otherwise in the show, but that just sounds stupid. -
Quote:eh, most of those types of changes wouldn't be due to parents groups, but because of George himself. remember, this is the guy who changed the Cantina scene so that Greedo shot first because he didn't like the idea NOW that Han blew the green mook away. and why was Anakin so blasted young in the first place? was there seriously ANY reason that he had to be a 9 year old runt? you're right, some thing have changed, but other folks have managed to produce quality films aimed at children and at families without having to stoop to the crap George did.I can definitely agree that the prequels did some pandering to the audience, but one small thing to mention in George's defense: times have changed and rules of content and the rating system have undoubtedly changed since 1977.
How much of some of the silliness or pandering in the prequels was forced upon him by the rules of the industry? Case in point: at no time in Phantom Menace did young Anakin wield a blaster or a lightsaber as you just KNOW that the parents out there would freak out over the sight of a kid with a weapon in his hands. Yet somehow the rules allow it for Anakin to get stuck in a starfighter and manage to blow up the enemy battlestation. -
That man was a writer i wanted to be. Always working, always loving his work, and folks actually liking it. Think it's time to do a marathon of his shows in honor of his passing.
R.I.P.
