- Not an Empath does not make them "Not a (good/real) Defender." Notice how nothing's been hitting you since they joined? Don't gripe at them for not making green numbers.

Amen to that! I started playing CoH as a Dark/Psi defender. It was a slow road to 50. I'd get invited to teams and kicked the moment they'd find out I wasn't an empath. Nevermind the fact that I could debuff the mess out of a mob or that my AoE heal dealt more hp than a standard empathic AoE heal. (Granted, the heal does require acc, but who needs heals when the mobs can't even hit you???)
On that note, here's my addition (which may echo many of the sentiments I've read):
Open your mind!!! Take the time to experiment with or, at the very least, familiarize yourself with other AT's and their powers. Don't write off other players with unconventional powersets. Since when did originality turn into a punishable offense?
If you're a defender/controller/corruptor/mm, you should know the value of buffs and debuffs, not just heals.
If you're a controller/dominator, you should know the difference between hold, immob, disorient, sleep, etc. (PULLEEZ, don't get me started on the Hami raids.)
If you're a tank/scrapper/brute/stalker, you should know the difference between def and resist, as well as the different dmg types (same for any AT with buffs/debuffs for that matter).
If you're a blaster, learn aggro control. (Don't be surprised if you're faceplanted after dropping a moderate AoE attack on an enormous mob.)
If you're a kheld/VEAT, you're not God. Fight the urge!
If you're anyone with a pulse and half a neuron on CoX, you should know what regen and recovery are.
Ok, who have I left out? lol
