Actually, no, I wouldn't. I'd take all that money and flee to a beautiful island somewhere and watch the news from my 2000 inch flatscreen tv as Blizzard stock plummets and NCSoft stock rises...then again, maybe that's why I shouldn't work at Blizzard.

I think, this would be the only good $ spent on PvP in this game...

Then all you PvPers could be together, and stuff.
As I said in the other thread, concentrating the existing PvP'ers is a good idea--especially if you institute some form of optional auto-teaming at the same time. PvP in this game was originally balanced around team PvP, and bringing all the PvP'ers together would encourage PvP teaming.

This would give everyone what they want... those that want PvP will get it rather than going to an empty zone in hopes of running into someone else, and those that don't want it will never have to see it as long as they don't queue up.
This is turning out to be one of the most productive PvP suggestion threads I've ever seen. I would love to see this implemented--like Fleeting Whisper, I just hope that enough people would take advantage of it to justify the expense. However, I would, and I'm hardly the target PvP audience--maybe that's a good sign. This idea has none of the things that make me uncomfortable about most PvP suggestions: no PvP on/off flags, no focus on 1 on 1 dueling, etc. You only join the event if you sign up for it, and even the loners will have a better shot at joining a PvP team. I like it.

    Quote:
The ONE potential downfall of this (which I hope NCSoft would recognize) is to create rewards that are so powerful that some would feel forced to PvP in order to get the best IOs or whatever. WoW did this and enjoying PvP I didn't mind but it SUCKED for those who didn't want to PvP.
Unfortunately, we're already partially down that road already. The PvP IOs are pretty rare though. I think it was a mistake to add them, personally.
  4. Quote:
Aside from cross server zones I do think it would be a good idea to have (pardon me for this) some WoWish Battle Ground type instances. For any unfamiliar basically the BGs are different cross server instances where one team faces another in a battle over a common objective (capture the flag is the easiest to explain). Having an objective gives it purpose other than just having the ability to say "HAHAH NOOB I GOT YOU!". Granted there are those players that still do that but they are usually on the losing team.
PvP in CoH has a certain "capture the flag" mini-game in place for Recluse's Victory, but you have a good point. Something similiar along those lines is Base Raiding, which could be a lot of fun (if you happen to be in an SG/VG).
  5. Quote:
Aside from fixing any broken aspects of PvP, I think cross-server PvP would be a far greater boon to the PvP-inclined. Cross-server PvP in the PvP zones would concentrate the PvP playerbase from 11 servers (15 servers if you include the EU) into 4 zones (plus arena, if that's included). Creating world PvP would spread the population of one server's 4 zones into 44 zones, diluting the pool of potential opponents.

I should think concentrating as many PvP players as possible from the small PvP population would be more desirable than diluting it.
I've seen this idea suggested before, and I /sign it every time. There was a time when I tried PvP and enjoyed it, and this would definitely make me go back and try it again. With a much larger concentration of PvP'ers, forming PvP teams would become easier (which was arguably the devs' intention for PvP implementation in the first place, rather than the mostly 1 on 1 encounters most servers are limited to now.) So if you're looking at a PvP idea that would excite PvP'ers, and potentially bring people who never PvP into the zones, I think this one is a winner.

Has it not occured to anyone that PvP might not be as popular because of the lack of open world PvP... I've not participated in PvP at all because all I hear about is how it's been broken since I13. Those of you that have been playing for awhile forget that there are other people out there that are relatively new to the game that might like to see something like this implemented.
Lack of world PvP isn't why PvP is unpopular--it's largely the PvP implementation, with its seperate coding (diminshing returns, etc), and the fact that this game was first released without any PvP whatsoever. Many players (myself included), came to this game partially because of that. We (and just to make sure you don't misunderstand, I'm referring to "people who came to this game partially due to its lack of world PvP") were thrilled when PvP implementation was made through seperate zones, making PvP entirely optional.

I know you want to make PvP more popular, but worldwide PvP doesn't begin to accomplish that. It would alienate more people than it would excite. I know you're part of that latter minority, and I'm sorry, but it's true. I wish this game could appeal to everyone, but there are some issues where pleasing a few people would piss off a lot of people. PvP is one of them.

    Quote:
They are appealing to those that are still playing... but what's wrong with also trying to appeal to those that they may have lost as well as possibly draw new ones in that like the idea of PvP in a comic book world which as Golden Girl pointed out makes more sense here than a lot of people here want to realize.
The problem is, you can make the storyline as compelling as the best novel in the world, but if the implementation is a variant of CoH PvP, it's just not going to be popular. I love good storylines, and I love RPing. That doesn't mean I'd PvP even if you convinced me there was such a thing as compelling, immersive, PvP roleplay. PvP just doesn't work that way.

    Quote:
personally I'd like to see some kind of world pvp implemented, yes there would be potential issues but nothing that couldn't be worked out.
The problem is, no one who suggests world PvP has been able to "work out" exactly how those potential issues would be avoided (well, other than saying "PvP flags will fix everything!", "Make a PvP server", or "Grow a thicker skin!").

    Quote:
They could after all make an official PvP server since we don't have one. Yes, Freedom is the unofficial one but there is still no open world PvP.
In order to make an official PvP server, you'd have to do one of several things:

    1. Convert an existing server into the "official" PvP server. This would upset a lot of current players, and probably lead to a mass exodus. Many of those players would quit in a fit of nerdrage rather than transfer to another non-PvP server.

    2. Make all server PvP servers, but only one is "official". You know how empty the PvP zones are? Imagine if the entire server had the same population as a PvP zone. Now imagine the entire game with that same population...

    3. Make a seperate codebase and a seperate, new PvP server. This would be a coding/maintenance/updating nightmare.

    Quote:
Also, the devs rule... not the majority
If the only way your idea will succeed is for someone to implement it without considering how players would react to it, it's probably not a good idea.

    Quote:
I know the ratio is no where near 50/50 but do you really think the devs want to ignore any requests regardless of the percentage of players that do and do not want it?
You're right about one thing--it's not 50/50. It's probably not even 90/10, especially after PvP rebalancing. I wouldn't be surprised if the number of current, active PvP'ers on any given server were less than 1% of that server's population. And I'd also argue that the number of people who hate PvP with an irrational passion outnumber that 1%. So...to play devil's advocate, do you really think that the devs want to ignore the requests of the PvP haters? They aren't in the majority either, but they are a minority that should have their voices heard, right?

    Quote:
I'm sure they're not going to make PvP their focal point for the time being but I'm sure it's something that they'd like to get involved in to possibly get back those customers that did enjoy PvP before I13.
Those customers probably aren't coming back--there are many games out there with arguably better PvP implemention. Rather than trying to pull PvP'ers (who were a small percentage under the best of circumstances) back into the game, they'd be better off trying to appeal to the people still playing.
  8. Hey look, another World PvP suggestion!

Pop usage makes 'epic' to mean 'extraordinary', but you can thank Hollywood for that meaning shift with all their extraordinary epic pictures such as Lawrence of Arabia or The Ten Commandments. Yes, those are really big budge films (for their times), but they tell a story, and that's why they're 'epics', not because they're really big or extraordinary.

The EATs and VEATs are epic ATs because their ATs come with a baked-in storyline that only they can play through.
It's true that EATs and VEATs are epic ATs because of their baked-in storyline, but I'd argue that VEATs (with their team buffs, high damage, stealth/critical hits, mez protection, and high defense) are epic in both the orginal and pop usage sense.

Anyway, alternate blast animations would be a coding nightmare, and I would argue paritally unfair. After all, most of the blasts already have power customization in the form of color changes. Giving them alternate animations on top of that would make other sets look pretty artistically limited by comparision. I'm not saying we shouldn't do something like this...SOMEDAY...but other sets should be given more options to keep things fair, and this level of customization is pretty low on my wish list.

Rather than having a contact or making your nemesis origin specific, what if you had to complete or participate in an event to unlock this feature, if you wanted to? A week or so ago i read a post on here about a break out event at the zig. Well, suppose your nemesis came from completing the event. The storyline could be something like "you defeated x number of villains, who were actually working for this guy (your nemesis) and now he's out for blood" After you unlock this feature, maybe there would be a ppd contact who "needs a description of this new supervillain, as you've heard him described by others (your nemesis)" and doing that for him would launch you into the character creator, where you would flesh out the looks and behavior.
Adding storyline into this feature = awesome. I like it!

Adding a couple of options as to how much you want to see him/her/it wouldn't be hard to stick in with the existing field analyst options.

    An Arch Nemesis

An Arch Nemesis feature would be a nice addition, but there would be a number of variables that I would want to be able to customize myself. Radubadu's desire for randomness in implementation brings up another point. I realize this is a seeming contradiction, but I want to be able to control the randomness. How about a contact similar to the contact that allows you to set your difficulty, where they ask you the following questions at any time:

    1. Do you want to change the appearance/gender/powersets/dialog of your Arch Nemesis? Yes/No (Selecting "yes" would take you to a character creation screen)
    2. Do you want your Arch Nemesis to attack you randomly in missions? Yes/No
    3. Do you want your Arch Nemesis to attack you randomly while on teams? Yes/No
    4. Do you want your Arch Nemesis to randomly ambush you while outside of mission instances? Yes/No

    And so on.

Being attacked at random by an Arch Nemesis is fun...if that's what you want at the time, on that particular character. Being able to control the degree of randomness would keep it fun AND prevent it from becoming a major PITA when you want consistancy. If I don't really want an Arch Nemesis for a particular character, having one that pops up randomly would be like having an annoying cousin that keeps popping over at your house for dinner. And as always, customization is key, and tweaking your Arch Nemesis should be encouraged at any point in your character's development.

Otherwise, this feature would get on my nerves pretty quickly. Do it right, or don't bother--half baked implementation would make using the AE as an alternative much more attractive.
  15. I hope City of Heroes never does this. Most of us would love it, but it takes away the developers' incentive to keep people playing for longer. In my opinion, it only makes sense to offer lifetime subscriptions if you:

    1. Don't expect the game to last much longer (otherwise you lose money in projected monthly revenue).

    2. Don't plan on making any more free updates (NCSoft still has to make money, so if they aren't getting monthly subscription fees, they'll need to make you pay for EVERY. SINGLE. EXPANSION in order to keep afloat)

    3. Got waaaaaaay over your head in costs and you need a lot of money RIGHT NOW. This also doesn't bode well for the future of the company.

From a player's perspective of COURSE lifetime subscriptions for this game sounds like a good idea. You would be saving a great deal of money. Unfortunately, that's the money that keeps NCSoft in business and encourages them to make CoH improve and evolve over time.

    Break Out Event

Good idea, works for me. I'd go one step further and have the same event villainside in the high levels, where you are one of the ones helping to break the lowbies out.

Make that two. Also, RP should never be listed as a reason not to do something. You can RP anything. If an aspect of the game breaks the fourth wall for you, it's only because you lack imagination (and that shouldn't drive development).

I have never understood why boys only think with their *&#@.
This is a common misconception. We don't *only* think with them. Much like the ancient Native American tribes who hunted the buffalo and used every part of it, we use every part of our bodies to hunt for girls. Our pecks, our biceps, and even our real minds, it's true. As for why we do it, it's a survival thing. In the old days, the man who chased the most tail got the most females pregnant. Thus, his bloodline lived on and continued to reproduce. As a result, acting like a horndog has been branded into our genes. It's written into our Y chromosome and the associated hormones saturate our brains, adding to the compulsion.

HOWEVER, modern man is no longer a slave to those impluses. We realize that the measure of a man is no longer how many kids he makes (or tries to make). And we are fighting our impulses, but it's hard work. We're fighting millenia of instinct here. Consider it a testimonial to how much we love you when we stop chasing tail and act like gatherers instead of hunters. We go shopping with you--we hold your purse. We watch "Sleepless in Seattle" with you. We pick out drapes. We can be domesticated. Don't despair, and please, please don't remind us of the heritage we have forsaken with your rebuke.

The friend zone isn't that bad.
    /rawr
This depends on the girl, actually. For some girls, being in the "friend zone" means having fun and being able to count on her when you need her, maybe even end up dating in the future. For other girls, being in the "friend zone" means being a doormat--helping her with her problems while she dates someone else. This is especially bad when the reason she's having the problems in the first place is because of the guy she's dating. Essentially, he has all the fun, and you clean up the emotional mess he leaves behind. That's pretty lousy--don't blame men for not wanting to play this role.

    Hi RPers!!!

It's very nice to hear from someone who doesn't like to roleplay, but at the same time doesn't feel compelled to scream "lolRP!". I appreciate you posting that, and hope to see you in-game sometime. For my part, if there's someone on one of my RP teams who doesn't RP, I try to keep them from getting sucked into it. 24. Once upon a Positron there was a bug. It's purple Mankey liked saving walruses deaths. Until a green shoe fell off a pretty cloud of root beer fluff cleaving off seven little toes while chewing Bubblegum. After seeing the drunk Pinnacle-ite puke chunky bits of magnets, it stumbled into a garbage carafe. Feeling pretty depressed, it died a Lonely death.

Elsewhere, there were some hungry hippos dancing on me for every time one slurps from the fountain of Wayne. In the early dawn, sirens wailed under a pale little moon made of nothing. People thought they saw Ghost Widow munching on Doritos with Valerie. But it wasn't Doritos, it was a magical corncob that sexy Jay designed with care.

This time, she wanted 12 umpa-loompas and 5 slimy Pterodactyls with Listerine. Suddenly the wizard Spanksalot grumbled with great big annoyance. Dirty scoundrels sacked small vermin left by evil midgets wearing pink Fedoras and speedos. However, Elvis wasn't having cheesecake; he stopped to adjust Stacy's corset that had melted rubber down its frog but sadly, he died.

Cheney shot the lawyer in the buttocks with spitballs made of recycled garbage with asparagus. After blowing the mayor, he loaded up 12 hundred bucks obtained illegally so he licked garbage which Statesman tossed overseas. I then drank sour kiwi Rum. Drunken Avenger then sang Imagine. Afterward, Lily Tomlin beheaded the Tele-tubby while it sat eating pickled beets.

Next, Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockheart, Vincent Valentine and Yuffie Kisaragi took Aeris Gainsborough out cold.

Considering everything that transpired, little foot sat on his behind waiting for apples. Eskimo kisses tickled my tootsies unmercifully. Eventually, they screamed bloody Sunday until one benevolent little prince started rubbing knobs fiercely.
More midgets climbed Numina and pruned quietly. Taking advantage of nimble and skilled gastrointestinal parasites wasn't such a hard chore, except flying ones drove crazy trains.

Then, He-man decided to lick post-its and stuff because chimichangas just weren't enough. Orko screaming meemies blubered aimlessly South. The dog chewed Positron. He farmed ancient Rikti chimichangas. Then, Captain Swatkowski dribbled on his bib. This caused Swatkowski to run slower; the ice cream chimichanga tripped. Sensing imminent disaster, Pablo summoned blue fire buttfungus, unleashing unspeakable horrors. After the Furby stimulated mister Chimichanga, he stole 8000 blue chimichangas.

Ravenously belching Jingle Bombs, popsicles, Lava-lamps, and edible thongs, he swore revenge on Muffins containing poison tic-tacs for ruining everything. After hours of making Fudge of Extreme Puffs, he melted. Then the mighty leafblower began killing all
