Quote:Your example would be valid if it wasn't for the fact that adding a solo option can be as simple as adding a recipe that converts shards into Notices. It might not be the best solo option, but it is a solo option, and an easy one at that.
If they actually are serious about delivering a solo option, it is, at this point, impossible for them to be unable to devise one. They are probably going to try to come up with something more creative and engaging than "craft stuff out of shards", but "craft stuff out of shards" is already the existing solo option, so expanding that to Notices of the Well is just a matter of deciding what the right amount of "grind" for them is.
From what I can make out from your posts like this one below
You want the devs to give 100 percent confirmation that solo options for components for the higher tier of alpha slots will be available without the approval of marketing. That's what my example was about. Telling a customer about something that was not approved to be mentioned in the first place. It's a legit example, just because it doesn't deal with the shards, crafting components, or solo alternatives or adding or removing program code or features doesn't make any less valid. The moral of the story is "loose lips sink ships" plain and simple. It doesn't matter if you are confirming or denying the exsistence of a feature or product. If you don't have marketing's approval you don't talk at all about it. -
Quote:Buyer: Sure wish there was System [X] that did Task [Y] a whole lot easierIf the restrictions the marketing department is putting on communications prevents the developers (or the marketing department) from verifying to their customers asking for a feature that said feature is in the works and will, eventually, be added, then the marketing department, whose job is to "sell" the company and the product to present and prospective customers, is failing at its function.
Customer says "I want X."
Salesman says "We'll have X pretty soon."
Marketing says "No! Don't say that!"
How does this scenario make sense to anyone?
Seller: Hey we happen to be working on a Prototype System [X] that happens to make doing Task [Y] easier, should be out in a few months <- Says this without approval from marketing
Buyer: Wow that's great news, but you mentioned it won't be out in a few months. Tell you what I'll buy a few thousand units of your current model and then buy the new one when it comes out.
A few months pass by
Tech Guy: Well Protoype System [X] was a total bust, no way it can make Task [Y] any easier from before, not going to happen.
Marketing tells Seller what Tech guy tells them
Seller tells Buyer this lovely piece of news
Buyer: What do you mean it's not coming, you told me you had a working prototype. You lied to me, tricked me into buying all those units, I demand a refund!
Lets not forget that the Buyer was also dealing with the Seller's competition and mentioned this to them. Then they start looking into what Seller's company was doing, gets a vague idea about the research and Prototype System [X] and put their own spin to it. Although their guys couldn't get it to get it to do Task [Y] any easier they managed to use what they learned from their research and apply it to something completely different and thus make some major $$$ off of it.
So there you go, this is an example of what happens when you talk without approval from marketing. A seller thought he was doing something helpful to the buyer but in the end it turns out to bite the Seller in the butt and cost the Seller his job and his company a good chunk of change. -
Quote:Obviously you have very simple grasp of how the world of competitive business works. Even the smallest piece of info, no matter how vague or simple it might seem to you, leaked or confirmed without the approval of the higher-ups or marketing can lead to a major cluster[censored] for a company, trust me I seen this happen before. Maybe I didn't make the meaning clear with my example, but they don't want to confirm anything because it will give insight to the competition to what Paragon Studios is doing, and as a business you never want your competitors to know what you're future plans are, regardless if it's viewed as something simple or not, and also not wanting to having to deal with the customer backlash should they fail to deliver on what was leaked or confirmed.Oh yes. Companies will go absolutely wild over a developer of a rival game posting "we are currently working on balancing several different potential solo paths towards acquiring these Notices to our satisfaction, and expect to release a solo path to full Incarnate power sometime after Issue 20. The solo path will come, but we are not yet ready to reveal more details on what it shall be, or when it shall be ready."
How can anyone hope to compete without keeping such vital information under wraps?
(NOTE: This is not what Black Scorpion posted. What he posted said "we're going to be looking at solo options, but you've got to understand that an MMO is going to be focused on rewarding team play." This implies "so don't hold your breath waiting for it.") -
Quote:Fine you don't like the way marketing is controling the release of the information but that's they way they been always doing things in the past and don't see it changing anytime soon. Marketing is doing their job because their trying to make sure that information isn't released that would jeopardize the future of the game.I find that communication style unacceptable. I'm not going to just sit around and pay them money if I don't know I'm going to get what I want out of that investment. If marketing won't let them tell me they're working on my concerns when they actually are doing so, then marketing is failing horribly at their job.
Lets say that Black Scorpion did say something that confirms end game content will be soloable and did so without marketing wishes. Next thing you know you might have the competition pick up on it and implement the same thing or do something to counter the lose of players that Scorpion's confirmation would bring. In the world of business you don't want to show your entire hand early in the game because you have no way of knowing what the competition is holding in theirs. Also what if the devs couldn't deliver on what Black Scorpion promised. Given from what I can make out from your posts I'm sure you'll be one of first people ready to blame him for broken promises and failing to deliver on what he promised. There's a method to their madness learn to deal with it, except it, ignore it, or whatever makes you happy but you can't get upset for them doing their job. -
Quote:Fine I missed the point, but that doesn't change my stance on the fact that players do not have the right to claim that the system is broken when it affects their play style. To me, nothing is broken with the Incarnate system or the WST system just because a player can't solo to get the components for the higher tier Alpha Slots.
Did you even read my post?
I quoted the word broken for a reason. Those quotes define how the term is being used. In this instance, broken defines the unfortunate circumstances that surround the required teaming for the incarnate system and character advancement.
Quote:Just because you and I can participate in the WSF does not mean I find the system ok and without its flaws.
I lead my own STF this weekend but I do not see how it fair to prevent players from advancing their characters due to their inability to team for a variety of reasons.
I also don't see why ANYONE in this community would care if the developers gave us more options to obtain the incarnate abilities. -
Quote:The Incarnate system is not "broken" and as far as I can see is working as intended. You unlock the Alpha Slot, gather components to create Alpha Slots, and the Alpha Slots created give your character enhancements, buffs, and what have you. There is nothing that is broken with the Incarnate system. The Incarnate system is 'broken' in the fact it does not allow players to advance their character without required teaming. This is opposite of the past direction of the game and not how the system was marketed to the player base.
The only thing some people have is a problem, nothing more and nothing less, just a problem. A problem with the way components for higher tier Alpha Slots are dealt out and how it breaks their style of playing this game. Also this problem only affects people that play solo and do not like to team. It really doesn't have any affect on the game itself, just the play style of those prefer to solo and don't like to team. -
However the WST (Weekly Strike Target) isn't broken, currently it's a working as intended feature. Players do the WST, get the WST reward, The Notice of the Well being one of them, and then move on, but I do see the gist of the problem you trying to point out. That in order to get the Notice of the Well reward you have to team up with others, that there is no alternative solo option available to get the Notice of the Well reward. That to advance through the Incarnate system players have to team up, and there is no alternative path other than the one currently present.

Quote:I guess dependent on the situation and the type of game being played I would define a large amount of players any where between 6 to 750,000 people, sounds like a nice even number.1: Define "large". I've played tactical boardgames with more than 3 dozen other players (and several hundred units) on the board at the same time and there were no "teams".
Ok
Quote:3: Name me one time in this game it's ever REQUIRED teaming prior to now for personal power advancement.
Don't tell me TFs. TFs are not REQUIRED for advancement in the game (or at least not until recently).
Please try to come up with a better, believable justification.
I feel that you and I aren't going to see eye to eye on topic. How about we agree that we disgree, you have your opinion on this matter, and I have mine. We acknowledge that, and go off on our merry seperate ways. -
Any game that has a large group of people in it will require a team up of some kind, whether a player wants to or not. To me asking for solo content in a MMO is like a quarterback going up to his coach and asking him to take the other players off the field just so he can take on the opposing team by himself.
-
Here's what I don't get about people asking for a solo path for the higher tier of alpha slots. City of Heroes is an MMO, which stands for Massive Multiplayer Online. By that definition it means that you will be playing with other live people and at times will be required to interact with them in one way or another, from teaming to social interaction. To me that's the whole concept behind a MMO.
So why should a MMO dev team give a chunk of dev time to create content for the solo players on a MMO? If you want to solo a game then pop in a single player game and play to your heart's content. If you're going to play an MMO then you should come in expecting that there is going to be teaming of some sort required, whether you like or not. It's the nature of the beast. -
It's in Rhode Island, that's all I know.

It's happened to me before. Some how I grabbed 2 copies of Alpha Flight#1

Quote:Black Scorpion did mention that he was looking into solo options for players to get the components for the Rare/Very Rare Incarnate slots. And what if they can't participate in TFs often? I know of people who find that to be the case. Are they gated from ever getting the Rare/Very Rare slots by some arbitrary limit trying to encourage them to do something that they probably would anyway were they able to do so?
-
I guess it's a means to encourage players to participate in the SF or TF of the week. Why bother to do the SF or TF of the week when you can craft the incarnate reward by amassing a stockpile of shards from other SFs or TFs.

Looks like english but sounds like gibberish. I'll give you a C+ for effort and F for execution. Honestly there are better ways to troll a thread.

Images of Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon Shockwave's action figure have been leaked. Not bad, as least he looks close to his G1 counterpart.

Episode of Dallas, were Bobby Ewing was dead however it was all a dream. Pam wakes up and finds Bobby in the showers.
-Edit-
So I read the issue, and you don't even really see the kill, just Johnny getting swarmed by a bunch of bugs. For me, If you don't see the kill then it didn't happen. -
Don't have a problem with the new looks, interested on seeing on this series goes. I agree with Tymers Realm post on Jelenic wanting to simplify the Thundercats mythos.
It's a very simple one to begin with, and there really isn't much that needs to be done on it. Only thing I can think of is that Jelenic was maybe watching only the last season or so, that's were I thought the series got convoluted. -
Stopped reading Wizard about 3 years ago, but it's still sad to see them go.

Death in the modern age of comics is nothing but a joke, and pretty much a very bad and/or lazy form of story telling. That said, he'll be back probably within a years time.
-
Just saw the article on Yahoo news. He'll be back that's all I gotta say on it.

I loved the Red Dwarf series, so I'll eagerly waiting for this one
