  1. Thanks everyone!

I will give it a try.

  2. All,

I have a story with multiple missions. In the first mission, the enemy faction only has 3 units in it, or SHOULD only have 3. As the faction makes progress along the plot, I want another member to appear in the faction. However, I dont see a way to select which discrete members of a faction should appear in a particular mission.

Will I need to make 2 factions with the same name and different faction memebers, to show this sense of progress that the group is making? Or did I simply overlook something in the interface?

    Thanks,

    Lewis

    Right Click!!??

    [ QUOTE ]
Make sure you go into your System Preferences and go into Keyboard & Mouse to enable the right click on your mac mouse. It is not enabled by default.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure this helps. It *DID* help me so that I am now able to hold down the right side of the mighty mouse and do a free camera look. Awesome! HOWEVER, I still cant right click on enhancements or inspirations or anything else without clicking the command key in conjunction with the mouse.

    HELP?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  4. I think Gravity/Rad is the way to go also.

The tools that /Rad brings help you just about as well as the team. Also, it includes the ability to heal yourself, which you say that you like. Finally, Gravity is known for being crappy at AoE control until the late 20s, but the combo of Crushing Field and Radiation Infection will serve you well as regular, bread and butter, quasi control and mitigation every single fight.

    Servers down?

    Are the servers still down?

Earlier today the server status page said "Down" for all of them, and I got the usual "login server may not be available" message from the COH client.

Currently, I can log in and see all my characters, but any attempt to enter the game with one says that my account name is currently not allowed on the server. The server status page says "Unknown".

    That's weird.

  6. Actually, the money works out the same. I was already intending to buy the AE Edition in digital form. After all, you get a month as part of the deal, which is about $15, and you get a costume pack for the difference ($5). That's cheaper than buying a month ($15) and the costume pack separately ($10).

So, buying the AE Edition was the same thing, really, except I got a hard copy of a more recent save point than my day 0 copy, AND I got the mac client.

    Therefore, it's all good!

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  7. Well, I went out and bought the AE edition at Best Buy and it installed and patched fine. It works like a champ.

    Lewis
  8. OK, I'm kinda confused. I have never owned a Mac before. I bought one today because I'd been wanting one. I have paid for the Mac Client, since I bought the $20 digital deal that had the mac client and a month of play and some costume packs. I bought that back when it came out and applied it to my account.

After reading this guide, I'm still not sure where to get the Mac Native client. One person said it was something like ftp://client.coh.com/US/ but someone else said that was for a beta client. So, which is it?

I also see something about parallels and boot camp and one sucks but the other requires rebooting into windows. I dont even know what those apps are. I'm normally a Windows guy, but I dont intend to partition or run anything else.

Is there a native mac client? Where is it? Is it going to suck without "Parallels" or "Boot Camp" whatever those are? Is it at the ftp://client.coh.com/US/ site? Is that the beta client or the real live server client? I am so confused.

I dont even know where my applications folder is on my new iMac yet, or what a DMG file is.

    Please help?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  9. Thanks for the reply!

  10. So, you're saying it works well with COH?

I mean, sure, you have that model and you are posting on the COH boards. But, I'm just paranoid, so I like to confirm that you are not only satisfied with that model, but that you are satisfied with playing COH on that computer?

Sorry, I just have issues sometimes.

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  11. Sorry to resurrect an old thread, I wanted clarification from the OP or anyone with the Mac Mini.

When you said you have the (new) baseline Mac Mini with the 2.0 upgrade, you mean the 2.0 Core 2 Duo with 120 GB Hard Drive? And you expanded it to 2 MB?

I ask because my old secondary PC is slowly dying and I'm thinking about buying the Mac Mini. I've never had a mac before so I figured I'd start small.

My local apple store happens to carry the 2.0 Core 2 Duo with 320 GB Hard Drive, which is the higher package, but they dont happen to have any with the better processor or more memory. Of course, 320 model has 2 GB of memory on its baseline, I just can't upgrade to 4GB.

So, if I get the 320 GB model, I'm thinking I'll match your specs (2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, with 2 GB memory).

Also, I'm probably going to by a mini-dvi to dvi converter if they have one, so that I can use my old (but quite serviceable) 19" viewsonic flatscreen, to keep my costs down at first. It only runs at 1024x768 or possible 1280x1024, so hopefully my performance will be fine.

What do you think? Anyone else have experience with the new Mac Mini with the 320/2.0GHz/4GB setup?

    Lewis
  12. Yeah but after 30 or 40 years, one grows tired of it.

I've been wanting Flaming zombies since like ... forever! Only way to do it is to make a Necro and then goad your buddies into buffing all your zombies, or else two-box and do it yourself.

  16. Ugh. I personally hate story arcs that follow the typical "lose, lose again, get your face punched in, screw up but OH you were so close ... and then VICTORY because its the end of the story, 11:00, everybody looks pissed so its time to win" type of pattern. Comic books do this too. But hey, its your story. I think you'd have to put it in the clues or the Contact text that things are just getting worse and worse as you go.

If you ever play table top superhero RPGs, you might want to try Mutants and Masterminds. Personally, I hate it for the same reason you'd probably like it. Every time the GM screws over the players (like auto-capturing them, or deciding his bad guy got hurt too much so he lets him re-roll) there is a mechanic. The players get points for being screwed. Later, after the GM beats you over the head with a bunch of comic-book style defeats, you've accumulated enough "the GM is a rotten so and so" points to overwhelm the bad guys at the end with your own cheats.

    Blah!

I'd like to see Oni (ninja pet) changed to look like a samurai and not a demon himself.

Not me. I like the look he has now. If you want to change him to look like a Samurai, then change his name too. Or make him look like a Demonic warrior, as I've seen some Oni depicted.

<ul type="square">[*]Fixed bug that made it impossible to enter some SG bases (the base map would keep crashing).[/list]

Well I'm pretty annoyed. After the patch today, my problem went from "Map Failed to Start" to "Enjoy your 1x1 starter room!" Somehow, COH still knows I owe 1000 prestige by Apr 24. Not cool. I was hoping I'd get my Sunday night 500 million crafting binge stuff back into my storage, and instead I get a 1x1 room!

I entered another ticket, and referenced my old ones and mentioned the new problem. What else can I do? This is infuriating.

I've simply avoided doing MA content, knowing that I would leave a blood trail of 1 star missions behind me.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You shouldn't hold yourself back because of this, with a bit of preparation you should be able to rate fairly.

First, read the description, only do arcs that align with your preferences, and only 1 star arcs that don't come close to their descriptions. 2 star them if they have numerous problems and send messages to the author.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If by preparation, you mean, dont play a Controller, then sure.

But you make a good point. As long as the mission descriptions say they are designed to be AV-heavy, or designed to neutralize certain ATs, then I shouldnt count it against them, at least not more than -1 star to my actual rating.

    Lewis
  21. Maybe it wasnt banditry.

I have avoided doing any arcs because I hear they are rife with minion swarms with full mez protection, and I largely play Dominators and Controllers. I personally would rate any arc with rank and file mez-protection minions with 1 star, out of hand. I would probably leave a comment tho. Since I am somewhat self-aware about my quirks and intolerances, I've simply avoided doing MA content, knowing that I would leave a blood trail of 1 star missions behind me.

But, you know, people 1-starring content may be 1-starring missions due to their own pet peeves.

    Issue 7 patch note 06-06-2006
    [ QUOTE ]

Many Location based powers (Such as Rain of Fire and Blizzard) can now be affected by the casters Buffs (for example, using Build Up will now increase the damage of Blizzard).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I went through each pacth note between I7 and I8, there is nothing further. Certainly no specific mention of recharge inheritance.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well then I feel justified, since I certainly view Hasten as a caster Buff.

Anyway it doesnt matter. They are changing it and that's that. Make your choices based on the result. What else can you do?

    Lewis
  23. [ QUOTE ]

Honest question; why would they lie?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because they are human. However, I didnt say they lied. They could also be mistaken, as could I.

I do remember the recharge inheritance and buff inheritance and the like being mentioned in the patch notes when it went into effect. When that patch went live, I knew because of the patch notes. I did little else aside from running around, eating as many reds as I could, clicking hasten, and then letting fly with Cages, LS and Tornado.

It is entirely possible that the recharge wasnt mentioned at all in the patch notes and that I learned about it from word of mouth. My memory could be faulty. I just remember that at least some of the types of inheritance to storm powers was acknowledged in the patch notes when the effect went into play. I have been a Stormie from WAY back.

I am still of the opinion that they did mention it, either in patch notes or forum posts, because I remember it. But, you know, 10 different people won't describe the same accident / train wreck / disaster / software patch the same way.

Also, internal communication may have been such that other devs or mods or patch creators mentioned it or let it get through despite the fact that other devs didnt intend it, so it may be a case of "people hold politicians responsible for what others in their party might say".

Regardless, intended or not intended, the game has certainly NOT been broken by Lightning Storm being enhanceable. Regardless of what they intended, or forgot, or didnt forget, this change is sweeping enough that it deserves to have powers individually considered instead of just doing a sweeping change.

At the very least, if they disagree with LS being buffable, they should just say so. If it was really intended or they forgot, they should learn from past COX history that we've had some rough patches, in terms of trust issues between devs and the community, due to the phrase "working as intended."

Perhaps I'm still just too sensitive over past nerfs and the lack of diplomacy.

Don't know why people keep missing this post from Castle...

    [/ QUOTE ]

We aren't. That is exactly the post I am referring to.

    Lewis
  25. Righter,

We've all seen his comment. Some people disagree that Lightning Storm was never meant to have their recharge altered, because it was a selling point of Issue 7. So, at the very least, it was promoted in patch notes and dev forum posts. So, the quote you posted strikes of Retcon.

But, you know, I wish instead of saying "never intended" they'd say "we changed our minds". I can swallow that better.
