    So, /Cold

I will make Earth/Cold since Earth Control is my favorite control set.

I will also make Fire/Cold since Fire Control and Illusion Control are tied for my #2 control set. Also, I have one of every Fire Controller combo at level 50.

I dont like the idea of Illusion/Cold, tho, or any of the other /Cold combos, conceptually. I'm sure they will rock, tho.

I'd like to see Time Control.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I already view Gravity/Kin as a Time and Space controller. Speeding guys up, slowing them down, moving/wormholing objects, summoning potential future and past versions of yourself to assist you in the time line (Singularity), etc.

  3. Here are my off-the-cuff comments.

Block of Ice: This is better suited for hold than for damage. Since you stated your goal wasnt perma-dom per se, then the recharge from this set isnt especially valuable. It would be more valuable to slot this power as a hold. If you were going to put Unbreakable Constraint somewhere, I'd put it here (not Glacier). Or, if you want damage, there are ways to slot this that dont sacrifice hold either, tho you wont get the set recharge bonus.

Basically, you are undermining your #1 power.

Hover ... this is underslotted, and slotted late.

    Fly... underslotted.

Glacier ... I would move Unbreakable Constraint to Block of Ice. You can still get good numbers in 5 slots. GW A/H/R, EoC A/H/R, NS A/H/R, Paralytic A/H/R, Lockdown A/H/E/R. It gives 92% to acc, recharge and hold, if I recall correctly.

Arctic Air ... this is WAY under slotted. It needs 6 slots if you take it. 3 end, 3 confuse. Without the confuse, it just wont perform well.

Shiver ... this is horribly under-slotted.

Speaking of AA and Shiver, you waited too long to pick these up. You should really pick up one or the other as soon as you get access to it.

    Jack Frost has crappy accuracy.

Thunderstrike has crappy accuracy. I dont care even if you do have 51% global recharge, this accuracy is terrible.

Summon tarantula ... why not put 3 hammi-O acc/dams here? You've spared no other expense.

My overall feeling is that you went for recharge or set bonuses strictly for the sake of having them, and not with a certain goal in mind (perma-Dom) and you did so in a way that was at the expense of the actual functionality of your individual powers.

  4. Alkaloid looks woefully underslotted, but I suppose it will have to do.

    Have fun!

    Lewis
  5. JAXMAN,

Thanks for the response. However, I'm actually designing this at the request of a friend, and he wont accept less than max flight rate in Hover and Fly, because he multi-boxes and hates it when a follower or a leader fly or hover at different speeds.

Also, I dont see why you moved stuff around. Is it because the Phalanx Fighting was misleading me and isnt enhanceable? Or what? I'm wondering what the purpose of slotting Stamina out further was. The AoE defense?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  6. Ah! I see the issue. I was looking at DPS, not DPA. But I see how the DPA matters more with an attack chain. Thanks for all the great help!

    Lewis
  7. Are you sure Hack is better than Slash? Mids shows them having about the same damage, but shows the recharge is better on Slash. Is Mid's bugged or am I reading it wrong?

    Thanks,

    Lewis
  8. Ack. That doesnt work. The bonus is too low on the Kinetic Combat. I was confusing Smashing/Lethal with Melee.

My original build will have to stand unless I can think another way around it. I will try the Cytoskeletons maybe.

    Grr.

    Lewis
  9. What about dropping Parry in favor of having both Hack and Slice? Since I'm soft capped (well, eventually), I wouldnt need the extra defense would I? Or is /Shield not as defense debuff resistant as /SR? Maybe parry would be good for countering some of that?

I am also worried a bit about endurance costs. That Obliteration set sucks in terms of getting good END useage out of it. However, I needed the Melee defense from the set.

I could have gone for Kinetic Combats in my 3 single target attacks, and go the same bonus, but then I'd have 5 slots on my AOE.

My accuracy looked OK to me. 66% on my worst attack, but with 41% global.

Hmm. Your point about the Enzyme I dont get. Isnt Enzyme for Defense Debuff? Maybe you meant cytoskeleton?

I suppose I COULD lose the LOTG regen/hp bonus and go with only 3 slots in GC and Weave, such that I could do the Kinetic Combat option and still have 6 slots on my AOEs.

    I'll try it. Thanks!

    Lewis
  10. I will say that in your desire to solo AVs and hit soft caps, your gang war looks a bit unpleasant, as does your noxious gas. Still, it makes sense.

Actually, you could hit the soft cap if you didnt have Challenge and if you dropped Assault. Of course, you probably need both of those to fight AVs. Anyway, you could take a slot from CJ (dump the LOTG) and 3 from health and 3 from Web Envelope and one from Neurotoxic Breath. You lose some ranged and melee from the set bonus loss but you can then swap Assault for Boxing, and then replace Acrobatics and Challenge with Tough and (EDIT) WEAVE. Use Tough only for the global def/res IO, and move the 6 of the 8 slots you saved to Maneuvers and Scorpion Shield. Move 2 slots to Weave (3 total). For 6 slots each for Maneuvers and Scorp Shield, you get the ranged bonus.

That would give 45.6% to Smashing/Lethal and AoE, with 45.3% on Ranged.

But, again, that would mean you lose the extra Assault damage and you'd lose the ability to taunt. But in case you hadn' t thought of it I figured I'd throw that out there.

    Lewis
  11. Earth/Kin would be my recommendation also, for the defense debufs, the Stone Tanker boosting, theme, etc.

    Lewis
  12. All,

I'm just trying my hand at making a passable (if expensive) soft capped build. I know some of the slotting and the levels I take some of the powers may not be quite ideal, but I was wondering if there are any glaring omissions in this build. Thanks!

  13. I am surprised you don't have Stamina (Fitness) already! Of course, some people are more laid back and dont go all crazy with the Storm powers, but I dont understand those people.

    Lewis
  14. You cant go wrong either way.

Do you hover when you play? If so, one of the powers in Stone Mastery requires thay you be on the ground. Of course, Glacier from Ice Control also requires this, but the power isnt up often and is used as a panic button. Therefore you may still choose to hover most of the time.

If you hover often, you may want to avoid Stone Mastery, since its nice AoE damage power requires that you be on the ground.

On the other hand, if you dont hover, and if you are up in melee often, its a perfect complimentary attack since it is a short range area power (Fissure). Also, Stone Mastery has that awesome heal/HP buff, Earth's Embrace.

Ice is great too for having 2 AoEs, a single target attack, and Hibernate. I prefer Ice, myself, though again Stone Mastery is great too.

So, if you like Ice for concept, go for it, its a good choice.

    Lewis
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    You want Power Boost earlier.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I want my other basics first. I played a Fire/Ice to level 36, and I took PB about the same time, and earth has more control, so I should be OK.

    [ QUOTE ]
You also don't want to take Stone Cages

    [/ QUOTE ]

I do want to take it, for fun and for concept, and for various other reasons. I have 3 Earth Controllers at level 50, 2 of them in the 40s, and 1 Earth Dom in the 40s (who has Water Spout) and I'm aware of the ramifications and the details. I just want the power for fun.

    [ QUOTE ]
Also, you can't use Stalagmites while off the ground, so that makes Hover and Fly more of a liability in battle than a help.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True. However, I prefer Fly+SS for zone movement, and my concept calls for having Fly (not just a travel pack), and also I sometimes hover for brief periods in missions despite the Stalagmites issue, or I touch down and use it then lift again. But again, its really about character concept. I dont want to drop these.

I do wish I had room for Hibernate, but that's OK. I'll tough it out and work on my end reduction IO frankenslotting, recovery set bonuses, etc.

I do appreciate the advice, but because I'm a filthy stinky (perfect for Earth) concept player, I gotta have some of these "less efficient" powers in my build for this character.

Thanks for taking the time to comment tho, I do appreciate it!

    Lewis
  16. [ QUOTE ]
The set works as it is, but works isn't necessarily fun (especially when you remember how much smoother it was).

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is the way I feel about EM. I can't play it anymore. I can be careful and deal with survival / inspiration / heal click choices between attacks, but the set is just so darned slow, and the AOE is so bad, and the single target damage isnt far and above the other sets as it should be (in my opinion) for such a single target set.

But its really just about the feel. It feels slow and isnt fun to me, so I have shelved all mine after several attempts to enjoy them.

    Lewis
  17. Thanks to both of you for the replies.

As for Hover and Fly, its just for concept. But I have to have them.

As for Ice Sword Circle, I'd consider waiting, but then what else would my attack chain consist of? 2 singles vs 2 singles and an AoE ... but there isnt anything else to take really. I'll see how it goes. Hmm.

Thanks again to both of ya!

    Lewis
  18. Oh well. Darn. No suggestions. Well, I went and retweaked my build and I just made the (difficult for me) decision to push Frost Breath to 35 because I need a second single target attack early.

    Blah.

  19. All,

I want to play an Earth/Ice Dominator. I just made her, and I'm ready to roll. However, I can't figure out a good power selection / level up build for this character. My basic problem is that the powers that are "must haves" in Earth come at awkward times in conjunction with Travel/Stamina and the powers I want from Ice.

Does anyone have a recommended build? I want to get both of my AoE attacks (Ice Sword Circle, Frost Breath) as soon as I can but that makes it where I dont even have more than 1 single target attack until level 35 (not counting Ice Bolt). I could do a LOT of teaming.

It is crazy how awkward it is.

Here is my build right now. I'm struggling. I'm having to put off Quicksand so I can get Stamina by 20. Normally I wouldnt sweat letting Stamina drop to 22 or 24, but I have to get Frost Breath by 22 in order to have it slotted before I get Volcanic Gasses, so I cant take Stamina after Frost Breath, because I wont have slots. That is really the crux of the problem.

    Help?

  20. It is a good combo. My Fire/Energy was level 33 before the recent Dom buffs. I did a respec and worked in Power Push (dropping slots in Hover/Fly) and so now I have 4 single target attacks. It is pretty nasty in conjunction with PB+Flashfires and Fire Imps.

  21. I personally hate end of the world scenarios in ANY game, or any movie, book or TV show for that matter. But, I admit I'm weird.

  22. My order of preference would be:

    Thermal (Burning Zombies ... YES!)
    Rad
    Cold
    Sonic
    Kinetics

    More Bosses now?

I *can* get through missions where every spawn has a boss, I just don't enjoy it as much.

    8 MMs on a team?

Maybe not. Doesnt twilight grasp give pretty strong -regen? Multiply that by 8 and then add in the crazy thugs damage and a -resist proc in the appropriate powers (on all 8 masterminds) and it could be nasty on an AV.

I wonder if it's possible to have an octo-boxer.

You might literally need a trained octopus.

Yes. Some in this forum do it, and a friend of mine does 6.
