You still don't have Wormhole or Crushing Field in your build. I can understand, somewhat, skipping Crushing Field, but skipping Wormhole? That is a mistake.
Personally, I would skip Tough and Voltaic Sentinel. Maybe you have a big reason for those choices. I dunno.
EDIT: Also, you should take Gravity Distortion at level 2. No exceptions.

Yeah, I've been looking forward to this since 1981, when the Secret of Bone Hill module for D&D came out. There were some cool undead in there that had some limited elemental attacks, and it immediately made me think of burning undead under the control of an evil wizard.
We had also just started playing Champions (tabletop RPG) that year, so very quickly I had 2 NPCs in our (shared) game world. One was what would be Necro/Thermal and the other would be very much like Necro/Rad.
So, yeah, I've been waiting for this for 28 years!

Dude,
Quote:Don't delete the character. You might regret it. I've regretted deletions. I'd pay the 6 bucks or whatever for another character slot. I mean, unless the Dominator is under level 30. Keep the Earth/Fire, if you have room. With Earth Assault around the corner I decided to dump my Earth/Fire (yeah, it's a good combo, but for some reason I just don't like it) and roll a Mind/Earth or Plant/Earth instead.
Quote:I haven't tried Mind or Plant before so I'd like to know any opinions from you dominator folks. The character will be mainly solo which is why I chose these two combinations. With Mind I expect it'll be a smoother ride from 1-50 thanks to the first five powers + terrify.
Mind's control powers are nice, but your plan to pick guys off one at a time doesn't seem to mesh with Earth Assault. Mud Pots and Tremor are going to mess with your AoE sleep and fear action, and Mass Confusion won't be up all that often.

Quote:I truly never noticed, and I have 6 Doms at level 50, all of them actually played (no PL).You're kidding right? From paragonwiki:
"Domination doubles the magnitude of the villain's own Disorient, Hold, Sleep, Immobilize, Fear, and Confuse effects for their normal durations, then keeps them going at normal magnitude for half that amount of time longer.Though the last 3 I played were done as a 3-box trio from the ground up, and all were Fire Doms, so I had a ton of control. However, I'm cautious, so I normally never bite off more than I can chew without Domination, and I only use Domination against the final boss of a mission. Its a habit I've had since Dominators were introduced.
Quote:Power Boost is redundant
Lewis -
Across my accounts I have 33 level 50s. 17 Controllers, 6 Dominators, 4 Defenders, 3 Tankers, 2 Scrappers, and 1 Mastermind.
I seem to like Controllers. Hmm.
I really want to get a Brute to 50 but my highest is level 41. I dont like the other ATs (Blaster, Stalker, Epics) enough to play any of them to 50. Well, my Ice/Ice blaster is like level 48. I might top her off. Maybe.
Lewis -
I'm confused. Aren't we getting thermal in I16?
If you just want more proliferation, then cool. I prefer /Rad because I've had a Champions (tabletop RPG) character (NPC) I made back int he early 80s that was pretty much exactly what a Necro/Rad would be in COV.
/Cold and /Sonic are meh, but OK too.
Lewis -
Quote:I'm glad it has Power Boost. I personally prefer more layers of safety, even well into the range of overkill. Also, does Domination increase mez duration? You said it did but I never noticed.I'm also quite disappointed in Power Boost being in the set. Sure, it makes your mezzes last longer. But with Domination, they'll last plenty long enough as is.
Anyway, I could live with build up but I'm happier with Power Boost. I like to be able to take my time.
Lewis -
I've never used Contagious Confusion in AA. I've just never got around to it. Do the proc bursts from CConf last as long as they do when generated from any other power?
Thanks,
Lewis -
It looks like all the important bits have been covered, so I dont have advice to contribute really. I do have an Ill/FF, about the same level as you. This build is very different for me because it doesnt have Hasten (often considered a sin to skip on Illusion, due to Phantom Army). Also, it doesnt have Super Speed. I would normally never do that, but I was going for capped ranged build that was a flying character, just for fun. I could swap Hover/Fly for Hasten/SS to fix this sin, but I wanted to be a flyer.
In a few months, my second account (the one with my Ill/FF) will get the City Traveler badge, so I'll be able to take Hasten and Fly. My build is still ranged cap even when not running Hover.
Anyway, here is the build. You may or may not be interested. EDIT: Oh, and you can drop the one Purple set in Deceive for Malaise, and still be range capped. And the Miracle is optional. So, this build is pretty affordable and simple.

Cool. My SS/Elec is the character I like conceptually the most anyway.
Thanks to all!
Lewis -
Thanks for the replies. I know /SD is uber, with enough cash, but I dont actually like shields for any concepts I want to play. Uber, but not my thing. So, if /WP is the second most effective, and more effective on zero cash, I'll use the Elec/WP.
Thanks!
Lewis -
I was thinking in preparation for Energize. With set IOs, 4 slots would eventually let you max real and recharge in 4 slots (4 level 40 and 50 heal/rech IOs). With SOs, you'd want 6 slots I suppose.
I believe they are swapping places (level availability) between Energize/CP and something else, so you may need to respec anyway to take it sooner. Maybe.
Anyway, dentist appt time. Good luck to both of us!
Lewis -
My /Elec Brute is level 39 or 40, and I ( so far) have skipped Power Surge. I didnt even try it because Mid's planner suggests it has a nasty crash. Unless you really want to be able to go the extra mile, you could replace Power Surge with Power Sink. You could get by with just 5 slots total in Power Sink, which would let you throw another slot on Energize/CP.
But I can understand why you might want Power Surge. I just tend to dislike crash powers.
Lewis -
To somewhat jump in on someone else's thread, but in a related way, which of these 3 will eventually make the best budget farming brute? I think all are non-ideal and maybe even terrible but I happen to have all of these in the high 30s already. Just wondering which to push to 50.
Elec/WP
SS/Energy Aura
SS/Elec
Thanks,
Lewis -
I think the new forums have slowed down responses generally, and the I16 Beta being Open Beta now is also killing activity.
Anyway, I'm no brute expert. However, I am thinking that you may have some issues.
1) Despite the fact that Conserve Power will become Energize, which will have some (40%?) end reduction effects, skipping Power Sink is a bit awkward. Power Sink is going to let you refill you endurance pretty much as needed. I dont think Energize will. I'd take both Power Sink and Energize. Also, I'd want 4 slots on Energize (Conserve Power) anyway. Maybe 6 if you really plan to stick to SOs.
2) Your attacks seem weird. I mean, I dunno, I wouldnt skip Charged Brawl, and I dont care if you do have Havoc Punch, Jacob's Ladder, Chain Induction and Mu Lightning. I mean, I can understand why you did it. Considering that you want Ball Lightning, you had to get Mu Lightning. But I would have almost been tempted to take Electric Fences as my BL pre-req. Anyway, it seems awkward that your single target attack chain may suck until level 43. I guess you can just throw in the AoEs as singles, out of necessity. It just looks awkward to actually play up that way.
Anyway, those 2 issues feel slightly weird to me, especially #1. But again, I'm no expert.
Lewis -
I am looking forward to Elec Melee / Super Reflexes. It should be fun!
Lewis -
I will point out that unless they've fixed it in I16 beta, the Fire Imps (and other pets) run away from a burning Oil Slick. That can be irritating.
That said, Fire/TA is fun, and yes you can play it at range. I played mine without Hot Feet for most of her career and it works fine.
Lewis -
This is good for Defenders, and totally doesnt matter to me at all. I was always a bit unconcerned / lazy in going out of my way to get the ideal Fulcrum Shift anyway, so no biggie.
Lewis -
All,
I was just wondering how this build looks. The slotting levels may not be exactly accurate. Other than the wishful thinking of the Miracle, everything else is fairly cheap.
I'm especially interested in whether Dark Obliteration is good or not. I want to try it. Is it worth it?
Thanks!

BTW, I hate to threadjack, but I've been trying to decide on an epic for my Earth/Thorns. I'm thinking about going with Ghost Widow, because I usually take Leviathan or Mu on my Dominators. I'm definitely going with Soul Drain and Dark Embrace.
What I'm wondering is, should I go with Dark Obliteration for an extra AOE? Or should I skip it? If I skip it, I could throw the chance for -resist in some of my single target attacks. So, I'm undecided.
Should I go for Dark Obliteration or not?

Hell, put it everywhere!
For my Earth/Thorns, my build is too tight for spare slots, at least for single target attacks. I usually only have 5 slots total. My AoEs usually need all 6 just to get the numbers to decent levels. So, unless I drop something from my Epic, I'll never have spare slots for them. Too bad, seems like it'd be cool.

"Beware the Milkman, for he will milk you like no other!"
"The Milkman serves his milk at room temperature!"
And stuff.

I think a Dominator is a good choice. If you want to pick a secondary that only minimally lives in melee range, go with /Fire Assault. It only has one melee attack, and I played my Fire/Fire Dom to 50 without that attack. Fire still has plenty of damage potential without the melee fire attack.
I'd recommend Earth/Fire for the heavy control, plus the decent area and single target damage, with the flexibility to play in close OR at range.

I bet Shield/Elec would be uber. Shield Charge + Lightning Rod? Sweet Victory! My only problem is that while I *can* get behind the mechanics of the combo, I can never really get into shields, in terms of character concept. Oh, I can make up ideas for shield characters, I just usually do not get into shield users in terms of theme. It ain't my thing.
Anyway, I've decided to keep the Ice/SS AND to make Ice/Elec.
What the heck, right?
