Last night I noticed my framerate was very staggered and choppy.

I tried to figure out what exactly might be causing it, and from what I could tell it only happened when the team I was part of was in combat. I couldn't manage to narrow it down to what the exact cause was, however. We had a warshade who was running orbiting death very frequently, and I noticed a considerable dip in performance whenever he got near a vertical surface.

We also had a few energy melee tankers and energy manipulation blasters on the team, and for some reason whenever they launched a melee attack such as bone smasher or energy punch, I noticed that the game would very briefly pause as soon as the sound and graphic effect was displayed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ditto here, whenever I am on a team (Sometimes even solo), I am now running choppy. Before this patch, I ran smooth and NEVER had a problem.

My graphics card is a Geforce 6800 GT. Nearly 2 gigs of ram.
  2. Hi guys this is my character's in game biography. I managed to fit it in the tiny space where you can write a biography. (Sheesh I really had to condense it!) Anyways, what I am curious about is should I refine it even more? I am already at the max limit for space so I can't really fit anymore. Just curious what you guys thought.

<ul type="square">[*]Long ago, a gigantic war known as the Tenth Ring War, erupted on this world. The war was between the forces of Sanctuary and the Legacy of Steel. I was a mighty warrior of Sanctuary. The forces of Sanctuary were crushed by the Legacy of Steel. The Sleeper, a demon locked beneath the Earth, was freed by Legacy of Steel. The Sleeper destroyed the world and nearly all of humanity. Thus, the age of Magic ended and humans had to begin a new. -Journal of Ultimus, 700,000 BC

[*]To my surprise, I was not condemned to damnation. I found myself in the Plane of Knowledge where I learned of the gods corruption. For the Sleeper had corrupted them and they were beyond redemption. I acquired the methods, training, and knowledge to destroy them. The god of Earth's armor granted me unlimited protection and the god of War granted me the strength of a titan. -Journal of Ultimus, 600,000 BC

[*]The Sleeper will return to Earth to finish humanity. I will not fail the Earth again. And so I have returned. -Journal of Ultimus, 2006 AD

He is a Stone/Super Strength Tanker. The problem I am having is space limitation, thus, it sounds probably like a 5th grader wrote it.

I'm just curious what others thought.

Perhaps the reason we don't get more frequent, smaller updates, is because if we did, no one (other than pre-existing players) would care that "CoH patch 79658" was being released...

    [/ QUOTE ]
As long as there's been a dev ready to supply quotage, every mini-event this game has done has gotten coverage online. I don't think the problem is that CoX can't get on Gamespy, MMORPG.com, or whatnot. It's that they run out of things that Cryptic people will talk about.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't believe that this is a concern. I believe that Posi confirmed the development schedule as 3 mo for small updates, which would be a competetive schedule within the MMORPG industry.

I think that the current CoX team is unable to meet this update schedule, unlike the Legacy CoH team, due to either innefficiency, sloppy programming, understaffing, buracracy, or a combination such negative traits which are part of the currect team of devs. Perhaps some of the devs leaving, such as Lord Recluse, Statesman, has had an impact.

The causes are speculation, the effects are not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So Statesman isn't a part of the game anymore?
  4. [ QUOTE ]
But is what you want feasible?

    [/ QUOTE ]

World of Warcraft seems to handle it just fine.
  5. Just to add bump to this post and express my disappoint in the update schedule.

COH/COV Developers, take a lesson from World of Warcraft and make your updates more frequent. I know someone is going to yell at me for comparing to WOW but it is the most successful MMORPG. It also has VERY frequent updates.

In fact, it is on update 11 or 12 (With the next one due out in the next few weeks) and that game was released about 6 months after COH.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
I remember well all the newbies when City of Heroes first came out. I really loved that about the game. You could tell it was opening up the MMO genere to a whole slew of people who had never played one before.

I'd get into a pick up team and be, "Ok, hang here I'll pull the mobs to us." only to be met with "umm what's a mob?" or "you're pulling what??" or even "dude, stop pulling your finger" Tankers that scrapped, Defenders who played like Blasters, Scrappers who wanted to be Tanks, etc. etc. I made some great friends and while sometimes frustrating, that newbieness was a lot of times a refreshing change

I just wanted to chime in that if you take the time to stop and politely help someone understand the tactics more, or are open to people who want to tell you about their own tactics, a lot of times you can make a good addition to your friends list. In short, ya gotta lub da newbs!

Of course, some jerk who plays like a fool and gets everyone killed and won't listen to anyone is certainly a pain. I usually play a bit more conservatively with a new pick up group to test the waters before I open myself up for the rollercoaster ride to Debt City

    [/ QUOTE ]

Scrappers were tanks back in the day. They could cap defense and resists with invul or get around 3200% regen with Regeneration.

Zone Giant Monsters are getting the buff. GM's that are mission-specified (like the ambush ones, or the Eden trial, etc) are not being touched. Those GMs are "arch-villain" level, i.e. made to be beaten by 1 team.

Zone Giant Monsters are the GM's that appear randomly (or triggered) in zones. This does not include the ambushes that are triggered from missions.

This change will be both CoH and CoV.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Does Hamidon count as a Zone Giant Monster? Sounds like he does.

Man, I really don't want to face an even tougher Hamidon. These raids already last long enough post-ED.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hamidon is a... um... "Hamidon"-class entity. He's not a Giant Monster as defined by Giant Monsters. The Mitos are Arch-villain class, not GMs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How exactly may I ask are Giant Monsters being made harder? Increased damage? Increased Hitpoints? Increased Regeneration? Immunity to debuffs? How?

Reason I am asking is because I really don't want to fight outdoor giant monsters if they are going to be beasts one shotting everyone that isn't at the 90% resistance caps. (It'd be even worse with the wandering Ghost of Scrapyard)

I know the pratorian version of this guy has 100% resist to all but psi when he hits unstoppable.

You activate the eagles claw power
You eagles claw back alley brawlerleader for 0 smashing damage
You critical back alley brawlerleader with your eagles claw for an additial 0 lethal damage

    [/ QUOTE ]

No he has only 100% to smashing/lethal. I know because my Illusion/Radiation controller soloed him pre-issue 5.

My energy attacks (Energy EPP) dealt energy damage (albeit very small when he had it going) and the smashing was nullified.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Either way, it's schemantics if you're talking about real gameplay situations - the 10% differance between 90% fury and 100% fury is equivalent to what, a +2 Training SO? Certainly not a noticable differance until you start doing triple digit damage, and at that point the differance is so slight as to be insignifigant.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well Fury increases damage by 200% putting you at 300%.

90% of your fury bar would be 180%. So you are missing 20%.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
    Right but...

    [ QUOTE ]
You need to get hit by several critters (preferably bosses) at the same time and will probably die by the burst damage but you can hit the 1.0 fury mark.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So I was just assuming it's a miss type, but I was hoping for clarrification.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is -- Geko told us in beta exactly how fury works and it was never changed to my knowledge. (I referred to Positron earlier when I meant Geko)

Thanks Castle I forgot about that.

Although like someone pointed out, I was referring to the Praetorian version.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Darn it! So even if we right click and see 99/100, the little Fury bar is set at 90? &gt;.&lt; Rawr! Why?

    Oh well...

So to reach the 100 Fury, we would need the bosses to hit us, or is that a miss type to mean that we need to be swung at?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fury gains are the same regardless of hit or miss. Just need to be attacked or attacking.

Edit: Exception being if the mob is a boss. Bosses, AV's, Monsters, etc give you more fury.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I tested this and it is possible to reach full fury for a brief period of time. You need to get hit by several critters (preferably bosses) at the same time and will probably die by the burst damage but you can hit the 1.0 fury mark. Some of you may have experienced this but were too preoccupied with the whole dying thing without realizing you were at max fury.

I think what's misleading is that the fury bar isn't as precise as we'd like it to be. It goes up and down in increments of .1 so even though you're at .99 fury, the bar will look as if you're at .9 fury.

For all you numbers people, we're going to change fury to display in the 100s. When you right-click on the fury bar, you'll no longer see it display as 0.0/1.0. It will be displayed as 0/100 so you can see how close you are to hitting the max. Please keep in mind that this won't visually change the fury meter.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow I am on fire today! I've had two different developers respond to two different threads of mine

    Thanks Jonyu
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Dare I say it? Get FF bubbed and H E R D 10+ baddies that are orange+ to you. Do an AoE to keep them "interested". You'll get near max and stay there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Like I said, a mob's level does not effect amount of fury gained. You can test this for yourself.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
I don't know if anyone's used this response, but I chose SS over EM because I've already been there/done that. I have a lvl 50 Ice/EM Tank. Running through 50 more levels with a powerset I've already used extensively just doesn't seem all that thrilling to me. I like diversity!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah thats why I didn't choose Dark Melee. I have a 50 Dark Melee/Regen Scrapper and while I LOVE Dark Melee I didn't want to play it again.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
The OP is quite true and points out the fact that Melee sets are unbalanced in PvP. Why would you give defense weak sets a smash/lethal shield, but not an elemental/energy shield? Blasters can cap their resistance to Smash/Lethal is slotted right with the correct powers making most of the Melee sets useless in PvP accept for Energy Melee.

This is absolutely ridiculous Devs, and is a gross oversight on your part. Tankers and scrappers have to above and beyond to beat a level 50 blaster, but an EM tanker can do it easily.

    Bravo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No blaster can cap their Smashing/Lethal resistance by themselves that I am aware of.

Supposely (Positron said this in beta) Bosses and Lieutenants are suppose to build more fury then a minion but this was bugged. It was suppose to get fixed in beta but I don't think it even did.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My subjective experience is that when a boss is beating on me, the fury bar rises significantly faster than if a minion is beating on me. I could be imagining it but I notice it often.

I've also seen the bar at what looks like 95%, never quite full.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I need to find a stopwatch and actually test this. I am curious if I let a boss beat on me versus a minion how much faster fury is built. The only problem is I need to find a boss and minion that have a similar attack rate. (IE, 1 attack every 3 seconds)
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Well, higher level mobs yeild higher SMASH, so facing the Greens and Greys could have absolutely caused the problem to be skewed a bit. So IIRC, if you were to face several purple conning enemies, and managed to survive, you would have max fury. I know I once managed to get ever so close once because I over aggroed against some reds and managed to get to the graphic representation of .95 (still said .9) worth of Fury, so I know it's possible... just really friggin hard and thus effectively impossible (highly unlikely and improbable) to happen in casual play.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am fairly certain this isn't true. A mobs level does not effect amount of fury gained. You can test this with greys and then go take a few swings at purples. (Since fury is built regardless of miss or hit)

Supposely (Positron said this in beta) Bosses and Lieutenants are suppose to build more fury then a minion but this was bugged. It was suppose to get fixed in beta but I don't think it even did.
  22. Well, I decided to try a test and see if I could reach the fury cap.

I out leveled a mission with snakes (two levels) until they became green/grey to me. I then popped purple inspirations and herded as many as I could. (I have taunt... took it at 12) -- There is a numerical cap with COV on herding but I wanted to see how high I could get.

With just the snakes beating on me, I was only able to reach about .9 fury

    If this is the bar:

    |||||||||||||||||||||||||
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

X is about as much as I could fill.

Furthermore, I had bosses in this group (As I asked a few lowbies to join me to pump the mission up and payed them for their services). This didn't even help. I even took swings at the bosses using Brawl and Boxing.

Thus, I came to two conclusions:

    1) Is it even possible to reach this fury cap?

    2) Are bosses building that much fury then minions like they are suppose to be?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
SS w/ perma rage ends up having more dmg potential then EM until you get ET. So in a way it is more dmg. I run both and i like them both. Stone is weaker for a differnt reason, that it is harder to make fury with your main attacks having such slow recharges and that its end costs on heavy mallet are disportional to the other sets 6bo attks. Beyond that SS is also a better pvp set since KB can be used in every pvp zone!

ET can only be used in Warburg making EM overall about that same as the other sets in Sirens/BB.

    Hope that helps.

BTW the smashing/lethal isnt as big a deal as you'd think, only at higher lvls in pvp against higher resistant opponents. Even then it isnt everything you fight.

I will agree that taking stone is a tough call, its main strength is its KB on all its attks that aside its dmg is ok, end is to pricey and its recharges to slow.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only thing I really dislike about smashing/lethal damage is that the developers have created Arch Villains that are immune to that type of damage literally. (IE, Back Alley Brawler)

Even though you'd only encounter him in a team, I think that is a bit unfair to those types.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Because glowing pompom hands look stupid?

SS is a fun set. It has a great SMASH factor and it's powers are suited to the Brute AT pefectly. Who doesn't like ripping out a chunk of concrete and throwing it in someone's face?

Really, what is the point of this thread? Is anyone going to be able to convince you why they might choose SS or SM over EM?

    Play what's fun for you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep people did convince me with Super Strength because they made good arguments. I am assuming you only read the first post and not the entire thread because I stated this in a follow up post.

I am still not convinced as to why someone would choose SM over EM other then aesthetic reasons.
