Interesting. On my servers, Galaxy is a ghost city.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's why the soloists start there. It's what I do. Then again, I find that broadcast in Atlas produces negative pressure on one's IQ, and strive to avoid it.

I don't feel, however, that dev effort on future works should go into creating all the things that a zone entails (they have to represent a ton of work placing all the detail) just so loners have a place to hide out. Even if I'm one of the loners.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
how did this become a cov vs Coh Discussion, we have other threads for that

    [/ QUOTE ]

Essentially it's grown into a debate about what model new content should follow if there are future paid expansions.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
"Bad design shortcuts" was creating a grand total of 6 zones (Mercy, Oaks, Cap, Sharkhead, Nerva, St. Martial, +1 if you count I7) and cramming those full of important stuff, making the gameworld as a whole feel incredibly small. Why make two zones 2/3s of the size when you could cram everything into one? Except then players always see the same places. How many people actually LIKE spending time in Sharkhead Island?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I prefer this aspect of CoV greatly.

    [ QUOTE ]
"Bad design shortcuts" was keeping everyone contained within the same zone for 10 levels a stretch where City of Heroes mixes things up a bit.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I prefer this aspect of CoV so much words almost cannot describe it.

    [ QUOTE ]
"Bad design shortcuts" was adding in twice the story arcs but each a third of the length and each throwing out interesting information only as an afterthought (Oh, before I forget, the Rikti are humans. You learn something new every day!). Good storytelling and good stories replaced by short arcs just so there are more of them, no single one-off missions in addition to that, no hunt missions for those who like them...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I feel this is even more subjective than the other two complaints. With rare exception I prefer the CoV arcs to the CoH ones. Yes, there are a few things they just throw at you, and that could be better. I don't let a few stones drag down the fact that I was handed what I consider a bag of diamonds.

Plus, neither game tells you everything. For example, you learn things about the CoT from CoV that you never learn anywhere in CoH. I like the variety.

    [ QUOTE ]
CoV may or may not have had things actually designed better, but it shipped with a lot less actual done on it than the original CoH, and a whole bunch else just copied whole-sale from CoH. As an expansion, it was very rich and rewarding. As a standalone game, it's very, very lacking. Let's hope that if we DO get a paid expansion, it's a real expansion that knows what it's trying to achieve.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Honestly, I hope opinions like yours don't shape their future actions very much. I will get a product I like better that way.
  4. In no way does a debt wipe imply that there'd be any affect on the counter for debt already payed off. You'd just lose any current debt. If you actually want the debt back (so, for example, you can get back to burning it off for a badge), maxing your debt bar again is pretty trivial.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
And if the expansion adds as much as CoV did, then that, my friends, is a bum deal.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Speak for yourself, man. I've gotten so much out of CoV being added that I couldn't even begin to quantifiy it.

I also totally don't see it as having had design shortcuts. Instead I see it as learning from CoH's mistakes. All that "content" that CoH shipped with? Lost on most players and typically void of characters in-zone. CoV shipped with more story arcs than CoH did, it made you travel less to get to them, and it cut out a ton of fluff.

IMO, CoV is the better game. It has its warts for sure, but I think it was a tremendous value.
  6. Oooh. I just thought of something.

Is the prohibition on the dissemination of powers data (meaning hard numbers) something that's internal to the studio folks who've come to NCNC, or is there any chance that got left behind?
  7. [ QUOTE ]
For me, I've had the feeling that since Statesman left "the powers that be" have been treating CoH and CoV as 1 game. The press release just confirms that the suit wearing bean counters think that way.

For the record: IMO What is good for CoH, isn't necessarily good for CoV. The games should be thought of separately, and should have fully staffed teams assigned to each.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They're one game codebase and one overarching game world. I, for one, want them handled by one team. I think the separations they have were a fairly serious flaw and still need to be addressed.

    [ QUOTE ]
PS: So MUO gets Statesman, Synapse and Manticore, and CoH gets Back Ally Brawler and Positron? And you call that a even deal?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Manticore does not work for Cryptic these days and hasn't for a long time. Given where this game has gone without Statesman's hands on the steering wheel (just directing from the back seat) yes, I'm fantastically satisfied with getting Positron, BaB and Posi (let alone our other rednames and the staff who lack a forum presence). IMO, since Statesman and at least one other redname we know stopped being involved in CoH/CoV day-to-day progress the game has done nothing but improve. Correlation is not causation and all, but I find that compelling.

I wouldn't compare this to the SWG thing, it's much closer to when EASports bought Ultima Online.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    EA purchases Origin Systems: 9/1992

    Ultima Online commences development: 1995

Ultima Online commences playerbase decline (from which it never recovers): 2nd Q 2003

    EA disbands Origin: 2/2004

    [/ QUOTE ]

So... is that a doom post? If so, it's not very doomy. I'd be overjoyed if the City games took eleven years to suffer an unrecoverable playerbase decline, closing their doors after 12 years.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Ugh, if that's the case. Maybe we should be suggesting to the devs that it gets looked at. I myself have only done it 3 or 4 times with different villains. But it never truely bothered me that much. Now the hero respect is a different story. Not that I hate it, quite the opposite. By the final wave in the reactor I'm ready to bum rush any mob that enters the area.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hate the hero respec. It's boring. It's too damn easy. Once upon a time the original respec was way too hard, especially given that one of the purposes of respecs is to fix a broken character. Now, however, it's just dumb, and there is nothing you can do to speed up the waves in the reactor. Boring.

I haven't had a probelm with the villain one since about the 1st month of CoV release, and have succeeded at it with some pretty dysfunctional PuGs.

I'm one of those people who will continue to run both for the recipies and badges.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
He said it last just after Issue 7 was released.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The real irony is that I'm one of those people it would be "unfair" to, and I'd like to see it changed.

I have two accounts and two computers, and can easily twink new characters to have the accolades at an early age. In fact, I now do it regularly. It's only my earlier characters who I don't have this advantage on.

Just because I can do it doesn't make me think that how things are today are how they should be. I'd rather see them work at all levels. I don't care about having this advantage over other people. I just do it because it's nice to have the powers on a lowbie. I don't care if other people get to keep them on exemplar. "Unfair" simply doesn't enter into the picture at all.
  11. Signed. And I don't PvP to speak of.

Edit: I should point out that I have two accounts and regularly use them to "twink" my characters with Accolade powers. I think it stinks that such is what it takes. I don't lord the fact that I can get them over others and would be just as happy if everyone could have them.
  12. Is Nictus unresistable/bonus delivered on a typed attack that could be avoided with typed or positional defense? That could be fun to work towards with IOs.
  13. Thank you for doing this. I never liked it when they were split off, and it resulted in me mostly ignoring these two subforums and spending most of my "general discussion" time in the ATs and Powersets forum. I don't think I was alone in that, which of course diluted the focus of that forum.

I am more interested in the blond's hair.

Heh, good catch. I didn't notice until you mentioned it.

    [ QUOTE ]
People mean the actual percentage should not be dublicated more than 5 times because any after that will not count.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So you could have five 12% regen IO and five 10% regen IO and get a total of 110% regen bonus? I have been operating under the assumption that you can only have five of any category, not five of each percentile category. Am i wrong?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am happy to report you were wrong. You can have 5 of any given percentage in any one category, not just 5 of any one category (such as Regen bonuses).
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I always thought that the 'second tower' wasn't built yet. He seems to be referencing an Oranbegan effort, not an Arachnos one.

EDIT: Found the text I was looking for(emphasis mine): [ QUOTE ]
I was part of it all when we first tried to build a tower to the heavens. When it happens again, what will become of me afterwards?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, but put it in the context of his other quotes. He references Recluse's Victory not being yours, and Recluse's tower contains the time portal to that victory, and is definitely a "tower to the heavens" that's still not done being built (listen to the Arachnos Bane Spiders welding on the tops of it).

That and "when it happens again" doesn't clearly imply that the next such tower has to be built by the Oranbegans.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
it'd make sense in their trend of fixing the old stuff that nobody really uses. :cough: hami :uncough:

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just because nobody uses it on your server doesn't mean nobody uses it.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Wait wait wait, if it is mystic in origin, now I'm thinking Diviner Maros and his towers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would love for that to tie in somehow. The clues I am seeing just to seem to link to that in any way, though. He really seems to be talking about Recluse's tower as the second one.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Infinity symbol, that looks like something devouring itself. Implied sense of infinite unity.

    ...

    The Rikti's creators are coming.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Rikti Masters, who will actually be spliced in from a completely different game. They'll attack with overwhelming technology powered by plants, bringing on an eventual third game splice from the beings who originally lived off of those plants.

    ...

OK, scratch all that. The Rikti all would have needed to be 20' tall... Kinda like U'kon'Grai...
  20. AS,

Thanks for your contributions. It's been pretty apparent to me that you have had a real passion for the "City Of" story line. I and others do/have appreciate(d) the work put into the Times articles and other related content. It was fun talking to you at this year's Indie Meet & Greet.

In summary, you'll be missed, though from the sound of things here's hoping you won't have to become a stranger. Best of luck in your new endeavor.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Although there are some CoVs on there too... like Mikey the Ear, one of my favorite brokers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hate him and wish a plague upon him. He's a zillion yards from everything!
  22. [ QUOTE ]
You forgot "and then sell you on eBay."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nah. He'd strip off his wings first, then sell them separately.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
The sewer trial is probably the most fun trial/TF I have ever done in CoX. It is a shame that it is bugged and is annoying to get started.

They should make this a lvl 50 trial, no autoexemp, and let us do it as our "real" characters with all of our powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to chime in. This is the only trial in the game that, in my experience, you had a real chance of failing because the timer ran out. And this was in the old days of Pre-I5, Pre-ED charactrers. I liked the challenge a lot.

I should be evident given that if it was hard in the old days of demigods and it's never been changed, it's probably a bit too much now if you do it "legit". Combine that with a reward you can get anywhere else and it's no wonder people just "cheat" through it for the badge.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
The Devs have gotten lots of feedback on this already in numerous threads, so this isn't condescending to thanks for feedback. This is an announcement, not a request for feedback. In fact, this was announced earlier, look at the date of the patch note. It was discussed on the board then.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No it was not. This announcement suggests more than just the management of the reward aspect. It suggests that the Trials themselves are not up for review. Previous threads discussed the change to the reward.

    [ QUOTE ]
No "Giant Monsters" here. Just Monsters. They're AV ranked foes. A team of 8 couldn't beat a Giant Monster unless its HPs were severely crippled.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Guess what? I have been on multiple Eden teams that have had to disband because they did not have -regen. One of these were teams was a Tanker, Two Scrappers, a Blaster and two Illusion Controllers. None had -DR or -regen. That's a problem. The two Quarries are harder to defeat than the Crystal Titan.

    [ QUOTE ]
Rare Recipe Drops: I know for sure that the Eden Trial does give the choice of a rare recipe. I'm not sure though if it's a Trial Pool... it should be. If it isn't, bug it. Does anyone who's done the Sewer Trial recently know if there's a rare recipe option at the end? And if yes, if it's a Trial Pool?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Task Force Pool. This was an explicit change.

    [ QUOTE ]
Actually, don't know why the Sewer Trial was lumped into this announcement. The patch note had nothing to do with the Sewer Trial. Why was it mentioned?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hydra-Os are the same deal as with Titan-Os.
  25. Yeah, I'm sorry Lighthouse, but there's just too much of this. Priorites are good. I submit, however, that there are some problems with Cryptic's.

Not revamping old zones like, say, Perez Park? Annoying, but understandable. While it may be dated and not very useful, it's not really directly harmful in any way.

Leaving bug-ridden and useless something a team of eight people are going to spend several hours on? Not reasonable. Especially since, in the scheme of things, actually addressing these concerns should not be more than a few man days of effort unless Cryptic's tools are really outrageously inefficent.

I have not known anyone to do the Sewer Trial "for real" since ED hit. The fact that it's gated to only be startable by someone in an extremely narrow level range, that it provides armies of over-level mobs with very high resistances to anyone who runs it at the "correct" level, and the fact that it doesn't autoexemplar anyone make it a complete waste of time. Every team I've experienced, always doing it for the badge, just "cheezes" their way through it with unexemplared L50s.

The Eden Trial... I don't really have much problem with except... there should not be a Giant Monster in the trial, let alone two. These critters are no longer an appropriate challenge for a team of 8. It is only reasonably manageable if you bring -regen or a very high damage team.

On the matter of the rewards, it seems like it would be extremely easy to extend the level ranges of both Titan Shards and Hydra-Os. Extend their existance table to 50 but leave them at 25% per enhancement aspect. They become interesting and accessible substitutes for dual-aspect IOs.

Again, I understand priortites, but I don't accept that certain things should be swept under the rug. Trials and Task Forces are "defining" missions in this game where so many missions are very vanilla. If any mission content needs to be made current, you need to find the time to make these current. In my opinion if you don't intend to you should remove them.
