I believe Ultimo is well-intentioned. If he is really a troll, he deserves some sort of reward for both perseverance and presentation.
However, he very consistently presents with an almost perfect storm of being all of: (a) seemingly perpetually inexperienced, (b) strongly opinionated, and (c) deeply concerned about game balance.
Unfortunately, (a) and (c) mix incredibly poorly, but (b) ensures he brings their mixture here to us regularly. -

What would people say to increasing Defender health somewhat, then allowing Defender buffs to be used by the Defender himself, though subject to diminishing returns?
[/ QUOTE ]
My Defenders who already do just fine by either debuffing foes or buffing themselves want none of it.
They also want none of diminishing returns. -
[ QUOTE ]
I've only ever seen Scrappers and Tankers stomping anything in this game. Certainly not Defenders. Saying it doesn't make it so. If you have something to back that up, I'd like to see it (note that I provided numbers directly from the combat log to support my claim).
[/ QUOTE ]
Look, you've got to be one of the the only people of your seniority on the forums who doesn't know this is possible. I'm not going to produce proof of my own just for you.
Go look for threads by Silverado, who's got screenshots of his adventures soling AVs with Corrupters and Defenders. He's got a veritable guestbook of signature characters he's soloed with no temp powers and no inspirations. He freaking soloed Infernal with a Fire/Thermal Controller, though it took inspirations. (If you aren't aware, Infernal has massive resistance to Fire damage.)
Edit: Here, try this thread.
Here he is soloing lusca on a Defender. Notice the litany of other AV and GM-class foes underneath it. -
I'm not sure what you mean about diminishing returns. Almost nothing in the game has diminishing returns. Some things offer linear returns, which means that adding X more of it, always just adds X more, which might start to seem slow if the base value gets very large. Regeneration acts this way.
Other things in the game offer 1/(1-X) returns, where as X approaches 1, the returns become extremely large. DR and Defense buffs have this model of behavior. Strictly speaking, the effects themselves are linear, but the benefit to the character in terms of survival time is not.
Nothing has actual diminishing returns outside of ED's enhancement behavior or the new buff rules in I13 PvP. -

I think, only Mind Control attacks are not positional, illusion control are positional

Blind isn't. It's Psi only. The others are, however.
Flash is AoE only with no Psi component, which makes some sense to me. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'd love to know what Ginat Monster you're soloing. I've never seen ANY character of any class solo a GM. I'm not calling shenanigans, but it IS very hard to believe, and if true hardly stands for typical behaviour.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not typical behavior for anyone to be soloing AVs or GMs. The forums are the place that most people who do those things generally congregate and share info.
However, there is no such thing as a Scrapper that can solo a GM, despite the fact that someone produced a build that can muster the DPS to put down a Rikti Pylon in a little over 4 minutes. Controllers, Defenders and Corruptors, however, all can do it, by debuffing the GM's regen and DR using those "force multiplication" tools people mentioned. (Oh, Masterminds can too.)
Now if they can do that solo, imagine what affect that has with a team with Blasters and Scrappers on it.
Giving Defenders and Corruptors a 1.0 damage scale would just plain be ridiculous, even when you consider that not all Controller/Defender/Corruptor powersets have the tools we're talking about. They still have other tools of tremendous benefit for teams. The devs won't ever do it. I wouldn't complain at some sort of buff, but I seriously do not expect one, and my common sense tells me that example of one is just broken. -
[ QUOTE ]
Not true. See the bolded part.

There's a reason that they have a reactive system in place now, where they depend on players to report problem arcs. It takes less employees to manage. -
Maybe its just me, but I'm curious how it was "obvious" to anyone but maybe the devs that Mitos would not have attacks when extrapolated to other levels. After all, no critter ever had that option before I15, so it's not as if that outcome was in any way form or manner obvious.
And of all the critters to test, why would anyone think to test Mitos? As long as their powers actually work, they're a huge pain to interact with.
(Note, this wasn't a rebuttal against Hyperstrike. He's just who made me think to post this.) -
[ QUOTE ]
I for one would have preferred a system where less exploiting would have been possible because the rewards would have been lessened initially and gradually brought up, rather than forcing confusion upon my playerbase because the NPC's they rely on in their mission are here today and gone tomorrow.
[/ QUOTE ]
The devs wanted ordinary players to have a reason to visit the MA. Ordinary players will not visit the MA if it offers reduced rewards, except maybe to check it out and see what it's all about. Once they get that it offers reduced rewards, they won't mess with it.
For that matter, neither will the farmers, unless they can find something so egregiously broken that it's worth their time despite reduced rewards. How do you think so many of the exploitive things have been found after I14 went live? They were found and popularized because of their high reward. If the reward was low, no one would be exploring those avenues, the devs wouldn't be finding problems because their datamining samples would be low and be missing outliers, and meanwhile this beast of a feature they've now spent something like 3 issues hammering out would be a ghost town.
There are a lot of problems in all this, but as far as the reward system and the technical change management of the things they consider exploits? I think they're doing it the only way that makes sense. (Notice I said the technical management. I think their social management of it is crap.) -
I have 4 hero 50s and 5 villains. I play them the vast majority of the time, to the detriment of alts I mean to hit 50 on (since I don't like to level them fast).
I don't PvP.
Sorry you aren't more like me. -
[ QUOTE ]
i think they realize now thats not true at all...issue i have is..they clearly arent balancing that way. in fact their not even close to making it ok for casual's to make it in this entire game let alone in pvp.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sorry, what?
[ QUOTE ]
hopefully they straighten up.. their only a month away from losing people. and frankly we have nothing on the horizen to keep people here.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I'm sure the PvPIO drop rate was going to make all the difference in how many people were going to leave a 5 year old game for a new one.
By the way, speak for yourself. Not only am I not leaving, I know very few who are planning to. -
[ QUOTE ]
Purely out of curiosities sake. . .why does it matter what type of damage they deal when they are 100% unresistable anyways?
[/ QUOTE ]
No proc is unresistable in PvE. -
[ QUOTE ]
In other words, /fail.

If you're talking from a paper analysis of it, you've done something wrong.
If you're talking from experience, the tanker was doing something wrong. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah. I have three versions of one character who are all supposed to be 6' even, but despite my best efforts they're different heights. I'd like to be able to type in a value.
[/ QUOTE ]
Until such time as they make this sort of thing a reality, what I do is save off a costume file and copy paste the body scales into the new costume. Then I load that modified costume in as the new one. Or I just load in a costume file with the sliders I want and build a new costume on top of it.
Now, that's no help currently for the height slider, which we can only set at character creation, but it will probably start working for folks who buy the Super Science booster (when that is released). -

Except this isnt how the game is at all. MOST of the community is playing other stuff than the AE. They just arent standing around in town zones screaming in broadcast for pugs. the pugs are in the AE. the rest of us are gladly doing whatever we please.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is what I do. Well, ignoring for a moment the fact that I nearly never join pugs any more, if I wanted to, I'd join them from server global channels I hang out it.
There is one possible problem here, though. A new player has no way to learn about those channels except from other players. New players almost certainly start using /req and /b to find teammates, because those features are obvious and in the manual. (Geez, did they update the manual at all for the AE edition box?) If they don't meet a more veteran player or a "newbie in the know", they won't find out about these alternate (and IMO better) ways to find a team doing other things. -
[ QUOTE ]
Apparently more villain players have developed the behavior to get the recipe not the enhancement to the degree that other than common IOs it is generally not as profitable to craft and sell there.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is no longer true. At least not at level 50, and certainly not for a few key items at lower levels.
I know, because I have made metric asstons of inf from it. -
I remember posts saying it did, but I haven't tested it. If the temp power granted according to CoD is different (they don't have the same fully-qualified name) then it probably does.
-
[ QUOTE ]
They did, they changed the drop rates to rep based kills only, meaning that you can no longer get drops in arena and only in pvp zones and because pvp sucks so horribly in this game I do not foresee prices going down anytime soon.
[/ QUOTE ]
They can be gotten in the Arena. But on the rep timer rules. So best case you could only get like 4-5 of them in a 30-minute match, assuming you won the lottery while being struck by lightning by getting a drop every time you were eligible based on the timer. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't quite understand why these IOs are in high enough demand that people will spend so much on them. I mean, I'm not opposed to spending that much on shinies, I just keep looking at the specific IOs in these sets and going, "Meh, I'd rather slot purples". (Other than the +res and +def globals, that is - those I get.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, they do some things that purples don't.
For example, they share the "no exemplar penalty" that purples have, but they aren't all unique - you can slot multiple sets of them.
In PvP in particular, they give set bonuses you can't find anywhere else. For example, +range.
And finally, in PvP they give these bonuses on top of the PvE bonuses.
Ultimately, though, this may be a sort of "Bentley Syndrome". The people buying these at these prices may already have all the Purples they can use, and they're looking for the next level of shiny to buy. There was a thread a while back in this forum by a guy posting how he'd slotted like 8 sets of purples, mostly just because he could. It probably can't explain all the purchases, but I'd bet that sort of thing explains the most extreme sale prices we've seen. -

One caveat on the time limit - I believe there is no time limit as long as your account is active. If you let it lapse, the 60-day limit is probably in force.
[/ QUOTE ]Unless something changed recently that I haven't noticed, the time limit's still there, and has been since the market opened. It has nothing to do with whether your account is active, but whether your character accesses the market server.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, that changed. It was in the I14 patch notes, and announced by a community rep. -
[ QUOTE ]
I am simply suggesting that ENH sales might be down because the sellers are trying to get too much inf out of the sale.
[/ QUOTE ]
As long as people are buying, the price isn't too high.
What happens is that sometimes there is a tectonic shift in what prices people buy at.
There are a lot of factors at work in this. The sale history is part of it - if the price for something is 10M every time people look, at least some of them seem to accept that 10M is the going price and pay it.
Another is competing supply and undercutting list prices. If you're selling at 10M and I come along and list at 9.1, and then some savvy buyer comes and buys mine for 9.1, that can instigate a breakdown in the "sticky price" seen in the last 5 history.
Yet another is the flux and flow of who your customer base is, and what else is going on. If all the fat cats who'll pay a 500% markup for a crafted IO are glutted on what they need at the moment, you'll be left with more careful buyers who'll bypass expensive crafted IOs for the raw recipe. How these two very different buyer categories mix fluctuates with time.
Basically, the lesson is that nothing is static. Sometimes the price you can sell things for goes up, sometimes down. If you're a serious marketeer, you try to chase the price rises and earn greater profit. Sometimes when you do that, the price falls again, and you get stuck with high-priced goods. That's the breaks. -
[ QUOTE ]
'Tis done. I can't believe I'm using "4" to mean "for", but I couldn't think of anything better.
[/ QUOTE ]
It could be worse. We could have convinced you to be "Mind4EvaBurning". -
[ QUOTE ]
Wait a minute, let me get this straight. (I a noob ww person)...if you post your salvage at 1, not only will it sell faster (duh, minimum bid) but you'll actually sell for more? Like, if someone bids 1mil on salv but yours goes for 1...you'll get 1mil-ww charges?? o.o
[/ QUOTE ]
It's always matched with the highest bidder that exceeds the list price. So if there are bids out of 1, 500 and 1M for something and you list it at 1, you will sell it for 1M to the person who made that bid.
On the flip side, if something has been selling for 10M but the highest current bidder is trying to buy it for 500k and you list it for 1, you sell it to that guy for 500k.
If you care about how much money you'll make on a given sale, you have to make lowball sales with care. You need to pay attention to how many outstanding bids there are, how recent the last 5 sales in the history were, and how much they were for. Of course it's better if you know more than just the last 5 sales history, but that is often at odds with folks who prefer to list things for 1 inf. -
[ QUOTE ]
The fix needed, in addition to fixing so they attack at all levels, is to fix the broken custom group hole. Make sure that any custom group must have a minion, a lieutenant, and a boss in order to be used. It's the hole all exploits drive through.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is not a hole or an exploit. (The not attacking is, however.)
