Quote:/signed. Oh God in Heaven /signed. Actually I'd be happy with 12 feet, or anything decent over the current 8' limit.I'm fine with that as long as the tier 9 makes you turn into a 50 feet T-Rex.
Tho speaking to the OP's suggestion, Inv, WP, and Regen all make fine defense sets for lizards. -
Quote:Are you telling me that you think this phrase (or some reasonable facsimile) was *never* uttered by any sea captain? I'd find that rather hard to believe. My knowledge of naval history is pretty broad, but to be honest I've never read 'military fiction' and have never had the pleasure of reading Carlyle. The phrase isn't nautical in origin, despite it being used in Napoleonic naval fiction; it comes from the writing of 19th century historian Thomas Carlyle, describing artillery lieutenant Napoleon Bonaparte's battery firing a "whiff of grapeshot" into the Royalist mobs on the streets of Paris on 13 Vendémiaire (October 5, 1795).
It's just far too obvious a joke for me to believe it wasn't pretty widespread in all sailing navies of the period, especially English-speaking ones. I have to wonder, in fact, if the French even called it 'grapeshot'.
Besides, Carlyle was born in 1795. So it's not as though he was simply writing what Napoleon said. He was undoubtedly applying artistic license. -

Quote:Well, I tossed it out just to further discussion. Such a system would probably be unworkable, unwieldy, and far too easy to break. I've really got nothing invested in the discussion - I can count the number of TF/SF I've done on one hand, even counting the two unsuccessful ITFs I did before finally getting thru one.Tyranno and Tokyo: I don't think your suggestion is workable, but at least it's a suggestion; thanks. If you want me to elaborate, I will, but this post is long enough already.
edit: Actually, I can't count it on one hand (unless I wake up tomorrow with an extra pinky and Mandy Patinkin chasing me...). Forgot about actually doing the Cavern Trial once. -
Let me add my congratulations to the throng. Mazeltov!
Some good friends of mine met on CoH and ended up getting married. I don't think they frequent the forums at all. -
Perhaps rather than awarding merits based on average completion time, base it on actual completion time. Since this would obviously result in teams just idling in a TF to maximize merits, you could base the elapsed time on a log of actual power activation times, split up between team members. IOW, the game keeps a log, finding that during the TF, Mr. Fantastic activated Brawl 200 times at X seconds, Havoc Punch 300 times at Y seconds, etc. Then add a set allowance for travel time between missions, clicking any glowies, leading hostages out, or other non-combat events.
Sure, there's probably lots of ways to 'game' a system like that. And it'd be a coding nightmare. But it would directly correlate the reward to the time spent actually defeating the mobs. -

Well, obviously he was talking about both arcs. Echo does a similar thing, just not in one mission.
I really like the arcs from Mercedes and from Darrin Wade, though Wade's arcs are a real PITA with all the EBs, especially if you're playing a squishy. That one with the living armor always gets my adrenaline pumping... -
Quote:They are similar arcs, but the Prof. Echo one is redside as the OP described. He appears throughout both of Brass' story arcs. That's not a redside arc. That's one of Mercedes Sheldon's hero arcs, "The Magic Man"

Quote:*raises hand* I had zero clue about that. So basically you have to average two kills per day just to tread water. I might have to start going into PVP zones just to give y'all some more opportunities. Can I get a show of hands from anti-PvPers that didn't realize the Rep badge worked like that? ...
Heh, that makes it sound like your counter resets if your target leaves the zone. -

Quote:There are existing authors who play CoX. A good friend of mine is a Times best-seller in sci-fi, and he plays. It's about the only time I ever get to talk to him anymore. When I suggested guest AE Authors, I meant authors that the populace at large would know (and not just those intensely in the know). Heck, go outside of comic-dom and see if anybody like Seth Green (or Seth MacFarlane), Tarantino or someone who would be willing to pen a quick plot in just to broaden their fanbase just a bit (then play it up).
I know he's written an AE story or maybe two. I'm betting there's more out there, and if you got a few authors with rabid fan-bases to pen a story, you could get some of their fans to come on board to play it.

Quote:Why am I suddenly seeing two NPCs walking down Broadway in Steel Canyon ...If there's a billboard advertisement for Mountain Dew Throwback or Papa John's Pizza in CoH, and I see it on a regular basis, it's not only going to make the world feel more real, it's going to be on my mind when I'm thirsty or hungry.
NPC1: "You feel like grabbing something to eat?"
NPC2: "Yeah, how about pizza from [insert]?"
NPC1: "Great idea - I hear Back Alley Brawler eats there sometimes." -
This. Practically the only way to get any real use out of the feature. Advertisers aren't going to pay for in-game ads that can be turned off - they will simply assume that every player has them turned off, thus making their ad worthless. If you can concoct tie in specials that are measurable, i.e., Lemur Lad buys his new hard drive from NewEgg and puts in a promo code from the ad, *now* they can measure their ROI.

Just asking since it's unclear, are you on a wireless network when you get these problems? Rubber-banding is nearly always network latency IME and wireless can be *really* bad sometimes.

Quote:I guess it's just a function of how quickly you get there. With the new Ninja Run + sprint you can reach the Atlas Park bank in 10-12 seconds, where it used to take 30 or so, or more if you fought on the way.Oh yeah Tyrrano although I haven't done it at low levels when I hit the 30s and start getting the Brickstown bank mission I have quite often managed to get to the bank fast enough to catch the signature villain just as he or she enters and take them out. I've even been on a few 8 man teams that found themselves battling the AV as soon as we stepped inside the bank.

Also I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that Gift Cards or Pre-Paid Game Time Cards aren't included in the 'Total Paid Time' but do count towards Vet Time.

As someone who basically has to duck spousal aggro to even play this stinkin' game, I've grown accustomed to playing in silence.

Quote:Well, it surely makes soloing Freakshow arcs more dangerous. That basically kills my strategy for fighting Freakshow. My bread and butter was keeping a downed Freakshow targeted so I could nail him the very millisecond he resurrected. Not the end of the world and certainly not a deal breaker, but come on man. Most pointless, unnecessary tweak in quite some time.

Quote:Actually, in my experience, yes. Yes they will. The average player doesn't give a toss about your game experience. They only care about their own. Sadly, you can apply that to life in general.... if you're there for a badge, are you really going to begrudge someone else their badge?
Quote:(For the record, I play almost exclusively on Pinnacle, getting those badges in active PvP with other PvPers is nearly impossible there)
Quote:I actually get the feeling that if more people in the game were like me on this issue it wouldn't even BE an issue. -
Quote:This works. I also make liberal use of the 'drop mission' feature every three days so I don't worry about all those annoying 'hunt X of Y' missions. It's also very handy redside, since you generally have t do newspaper missions to get mayhems, and mayhems give you new contacts./macro XP "option_toggle noxp"
Click the 'XP' macro to turn off XP when at level x+4.9 where x is a multiple of 5 (i.e. level 9.9, 14.9, 29.9, etc. etc.). Complete all contacts/missions/Mayhems in that level range. Click macro again, move on. Repeat every 5 levels. Wonder why people complain about a lack of content when it takes you 4 months of regular playtime to play through all story arcs. Swear profusely when you are reminded of just how many 'Street Hunt' missions there are in CoH. (CoV may require copious amounts of swearing when you face yet *another* EB/AV. )
Also, don't forget the unlockable contacts. This is a source of good arcs redside that many people forget about. -
1. Watch all the PvP weenies transfer to Triumph just to camp heavy points.
2. Go to now-empty Freedom PvP zones.
3. ... ?
4. Profit! (Or rule the world, depending upon your personal bent) -
I've noticed some strange timing issues myself. Did the AP safeguard a few nights ago on my new blapper, and I entered the bank door to see the Villain in the entry vestibule and headed for the vault. Tagged him, fought him and ate carpet (solo blaster, level 8, go figure I got steamrolled), hosp'ed and ran back and got back into the bank before the villain had managed to break into the vault. Got 'rolled again, so I ran to the getaway truck and waited ... and waited ... and waited. I must've waited there about 5 minutes. Finally the villain shows up by himself, and I laid him out quick. And I waited ... and waited. Then one Vahz minion comes running up, and I smoked him. And I waited... Last minion finally shows up to take it on the chin, and I got the 'mission complete'.
Anyway, I wasn't aware you could catch them coming into the bank like that.
