The Coming Storm's been hanging over our heads for years

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Only 18 months, actually

[/ QUOTE ]Depends if you count whole years.

18 months ago would put us back in 2007 which means it's spanned 3 in all
  3. /signed to more decorative items and I'd like decorative versions of usable items too
  4. Same with Recluse's Victory and all other Atlas variants (active city ones at least).

That's what Atlas used to have before the Aution House went up. I remember my first halloween event roaming round that skyscraper with my AR/Dev blaster.

Customizer - Publish a mission with a custom Boss

[/ QUOTE ]Can we change this to an account-wide badge since I'd rather not have to publish, remove and re-publish a cheap arc just so I can get this badge on any specific toons?

It is to do with the global side of the MA, not the toon.

I think CoV was once actually described as being like 'Dr Doom opening up his city to a swarm of villains and saying "Do what you want, jsut don't get in my way." '
Can't for the life of me remember where Doom lives/rules/owns.

    Issue 14: Bugs

    [ QUOTE ]
Already posted this on the US forums, but I think it should go here too. Testing this required two PCs. I'll label them with (1) and (2)

Operating System (Vista, XP, OS X version): Vista(1) and XP (2)
User Client (Mac, PC, Linux): PC (both)
Server: Virtue (1) and Defiant (2)
Zone: Atlas Park (1) and Rikti War Zone (2)
Character name: Blue Vaniah (1) Leese (2)
    Time: about 16:30 PDT, (1) 00:30 GMT (2)
    Location: AE building (both)
Bug Description: International Feedback Does Not Work.
Feedback sent from a US account to a US account works, and EU to EU works. But US to EU and vice versa do NOT work. There is no error message. The comment is simply not delivered.

Tested with the following arcs on the EU side. Sent comments from my US account. Their creators did not recieve comments - 2022, 53951, 1526, 32582
Tested with the following arcs on the US side. Sent comments from my EU account. Their creators did not recieve comments - 1629, 76267

I'd guess that an awful lot of feedback is just falling into a black hole.

[/ QUOTE ]I think this one is a known issue.

I received a tell from someone about an arc I didn't make and it turned out to be an arc my namesake created over on the US servers. So the message was delivered but to the wrong @Tyger. Hopefully a fix is en-route.

We knew that I14 was going to be Architect. I'm surprised and amazed that people are complaining that the developers didn't include story content that wouldn't fit the theme of the issue.

[/ QUOTE ]I remember the Posi interview stating that "Mission Architect could stand on its own" and the uproar that followed, most of it was centered on how it shouldn't be the only thing about i14. Is it really a surprise that people are complaining about it again?

It couldn't have taken the entire dev team to create the tool so what I'm hoping is that it means they've been working deviously on i15, keeping it almost ready for months.

What we have now is a Virtual Reality CoX where players are getting xp, inf and badges for someting that isn't real - and by that I mean it isn't set in the CoX Universe.

It's an odd situation but basically it's a virtual world within a virtual world and any amount of game immersion can't be maintained due to this.

[/ QUOTE ] And in one fowl swoop this no longer seems funny; just ironic.

And finally there will be a forum thread called ‘Dev’s Choice: For Your Consideration’ where players can post arcs they think should be considered for Dev’s Choice. The two guidelines being, you can’t promote your own arc (that’ll likely happen in some other forum somewhere else) and you can’t disagree with anyone else’s suggestion (again, that’ll happen in some other thread).

    [/ QUOTE ]

This right here calms any worries i had about the devs choice feature, thanks for the update Av!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Question is... How can we post on the US forum?

    [/ QUOTE ]

There will be a thread here, and as there will be fewer posts on it, the chances of the devs seeing them will be higher - another benefit of the Euro servers

[/ QUOTE ]The benefit to that being that we will have certain proof positive that the devs visit here as well (even if they don't post). Win-win
  12. ...you hear about "The Lost and the Damned" and think that must be a great arc for farming the badges off of.

...you see a newspaper article saying 'Recluse murdered in home' and your first thought is "Damn, States finally did it"

As to the voice acting i think I'm against that I've yet to play a game where I've liked the voice acting its ok the first time you here even the second time but after a while it drags maybe some "get them" type shouts would be ok and some general chatter background noise in the city areas tho would be nice.

    [/ QUOTE ]^This.

Had it in the Matrix Online and the first thing they did was kill off Morpheus so they didn't have to re-hire Laurence Fishburne.

General chatter would be nice though no "Get them" stuff. This isn't Legend of Zelda...

I found this article on GDC where former lead designer Jeffrey Kaplan spoke about some of the mistakes they made in WoW and it's mission design.

I'm not especially bothered by WoW - but reading it I was struck by how much of this is common sense and will make great advice for anyone planning on an designing their own MA missions. Some of it's pretty good advice, so I figured it's worth sharing here.

    Enjoy

    [/ QUOTE ]
The last section is a pretty good reason why they should look at some of the older hero content -

    [ QUOTE ]
Bad Flow: This occurs in WoW when players are given an inordinate amount of collection quests or kill quests in a row. It gets boring and repetitive.

[/ QUOTE ]A lot of the older high-end missions seem to covet this. I was doing a mission line with Mechano one time and he ended up with 3 hunt missions in a row. By the same token I've been doing a flashback of the Vampyri arc in the 30-34 range and it's got three hunt missions in a row as well, each one with increasing number and for no other reason than to lengthen the story.

Peregrine's stories could do with a revamp too. A lot of those missions are click-the-glowie over and over again, even the high-end stuff gets a fair few hunt missions. Then we have newer content which while it does have a hunt mission or two has more character to it like bumping into Fusionette and Faultline in the RWZ and their occasional 'player' comments.

You're right Scarlet; it's definitely worth a look for budding mission writers.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
In the streets there was silence and then the muted sound of an engine, the floor trembled slightly and then with a roar the drill vehicle broke through the pavement.

“For the rebellion!” the driver screamed as he drove directly at Benedict Plaza.

[/ QUOTE ]Inside, William was suiting up into his armour with a bemused looking Lucky Kitty watching. As each piece was locked together he noticed her face and paused the process.

    "Something wrong my dear?"

She looked up at him, his head still exposed...

"You can do things without all this tech so why put the suit on?"

He resumed the process as the jawbone of his helmt locked around his head.

    "Appearances, Kitty.."

The rest of his helmet and faceplate were connected and locked in..

    "Appearances"

He stepped off the docking station, the heavy suit clomping on the hard floor. Kitty's armour deployed over her body and together they headed upstairs and to the front door.

    --------------------------------------------------------

The two sentries assigned to the front door had made sure that no-one got in or out. Their attention was diverted to the sound from outside; they looked to each other and with perfect synchronicity looked at the emerging vehicle as it ruptured from the ground. The image was relayed instantly through the Core AI.

David and Goliath, Kitty's 'children', had made their way up first. They were followed by several drones and they barely stopped as the doors slid aside for them. Goliath faced down the approaching machine, his feet cracking into the ground. As the vehicle got close enough he grabbed hold of it bringing the drill to an instant halt. David swept round and blasted at the vehicle, several other drones followed him, another held the vehicle in a magnetic field and lifted it upright as Goliath twisted in opposition to the drill bit's motion, tearing it off it's spindel. William had stepped out with Lucky to see this orchestra of co-ordinated assault.

    "Open it"

David lept up onto the vehicle and shredded his way into the armour, peeling it back as William hovered up to meet its occupant.

"Now; who are you and why are you driving this thing towards my property?"

Common practice for a beta is to break the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Or break it even more?

[/ QUOTE ]Yep. During the closed beta we all got to try animated hair but if there was more than one of us with it the game crashed.

Still it was gorgeous looking. Long, flowing; they did a very good job getting it just right

The humming is part of the hymns from the old catgirl temple that's deep under City Hall.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    !!! I must investigate this!

[/ QUOTE ]Me too. I always assumed the air conditioning was too loud.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
And this is why your application is still pending most likely. They aint looking to let in closed beta people that will use it to decide if they play it or not. They looking feedback and ways to improve things balance em out etc etc.Common practise of any serious developer afaik regarding closed beta part of development.

[/ QUOTE ]And yet they're so desperate for testers they need to recruit directly from another game forum. Go figure. Not like I had a comment section to say "I only want to try it". The beta application page asks for system specs, number of hours a week playing MMOs and operating system (from what I remember anyway).

Common practice for a beta is to break the game. If they didn't want people to try it then we'd not hear anything till it was released.

Same goes for people who are saying they'll boycott STO and CO because of this. If that's all it takes you to not play a game, you can't have been that fussed about playing it in the first place.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That sounds pretty solid to me. I'd imagine pretty much every 'City of' subscriber will be trying CO, even If its only on a free trial. Cryptic knows this - NCsoft knows this. If anyone is boycotting CO out of some misplaced sense of loyalty because they think NCsoft values you more than just a subscription, I can tell you are living in cloud-cuckoo land. Harsh but true, this is show business not show friends.

[/ QUOTE ]I'd already planned to not buy the full product and would use the beta to decide if I should...

... but then my beta application which has been waiting would need to be approved. Hard to feel that it's worth bothering if they're 'still looking'.
  21. Benedict Plaza, Steel Canyon
The meeting had dragged on for long enough. Most of the employees had the day off except for the board members. William Benedict sat with his head resting in his hand as one of his more monotonous members was droning on and on about profits being hit in the southern states due to the long-standing problem of the Phoenix Project. Seems they'd taken his work to be an act of sacrilege but the unspoken consensus was that it had something to do with the constant lawsuits with Countess Crey about whose company stole what from whom. William raised his head and addressed the group.

"I think we should call it a day there, don't you?"
"But we haven't got to the part about...."
"Doesn't matter because you are boring the hell out of all of us. And tired minds don't make active decisions. We'll pick up tomorrow"
    "But sir..."
    "To..mor..row!"

William stood up from his chair, walking towards the door many of his colleagues. One of them had opened it and quickly slammed it shut it shut, darting away from it. William opened it wide and there stood a Velociraptor. It glanced at the suddenly cowering group and shrieked directly at William who simply stood there before screaming back just as loudly. The creature stood there, surprised before baring its claws and shrieking again ready to attack him. What it met was a thunderous right hook that stunned it for a moment before a well placed drop kick knocked it over the secretary's desk. While it fumbled around trying to get back on its feet, the cowering group looked somewhere between shocked and amazed.

    "That's a veloci... did you just drop-kick a Raptor?"
    "Fire exit; go, now!"

The order from their CEO was clear enough. They obeyed and ran away from the stumbling creature. The scene after was utter madness. A grown man facing down a dinosaur with a smile on his face. As the creature regained it poise and hissed at him, his stance, Neo-style, said 'come get me'. It charged and jumped, knocked out of the air by a single, well-placed energy blast from one of his cyborg security drones . The helmet of the middle one retracted into her head revealing the smiling face of Lucky Kitty.

    "Need some help boss?"
"Yes, Kitty. That would be just fine. Did everyone get out alright?"
"No-one but you and my kids, boss"
    "Good"

The creature lept at William again only this time, as he spun round, it was held in mid-air with a wave of his hand. It looked at him, still shrieking, limbs flailing in the air. He smiled, a flick of his wrist and one sickening crack later, the creature fell dead.

"Clear out the rest, capture and contain them if you can; they might be useful. And make sure to take this one downstairs too for study later"

Lucky nodded, picked up the corpse and hauled it off as the echoes of similar shrieks and blasts could be heard all over the building. The former rider of this raptor had wacthed from behind a desk. He threw his spear with a grunt at William and like the raptor; it stopped just short of him. The spear turned 180 degrees and targetted the caveman. He pointed at William with an angry look on his face.

"You bad man. You very bad!"
    "I know"

The spear darted for the helpless caveman but hit the floor, exploding in front of him and sending him hurtling into the nearest wall. William smiled.

"It's much more fun that way"

sales badges are pretty easy if you got someone to help you.

[/ QUOTE ]I put that in inevitable as I tend to sell everything I get. Sure I could get it now but like the fabricator it'll just take a little time.

This guide actually helped me get a section of Ouroboros badges in one sitting. Quite helpful and a similar thought to what I was planning for my main.
  23. 553 now.

I have a few easier ones to obtain; Sewer Trial (and gladiator), SSTFs 1, 2 & 3, 2 safeguard badges, 15 Ouroboros badges left...

... harder to get ones; PvP badges (urgh), second Xmas slope badges (not happening), healing and damage badges, MoSTF (Pity spot for my FF troller?).

Inevitable but slow: day jobs and accolades, sales badges, Fabricator (10,000) crafting badge.
  24. You deserve it Swissy.

It's such a gorgeous piece of work, really brings out the beauty of Sapphic Neko.
