  1. Chapter Three: Illuminatus

    Paulatuk, Canada.

Above, the icey winds blew across the glacial formations of the Arctic circle, the temperatures plummeting to an average of −35 °C. The wind carried snow and ice briskly across the surface. A small town battered by the snowstorm, innocuous in its appearance and by all accounts abandoned by its residents.

Deep below the surface was a different story. A large base, one of the quarters of the Midnight Illuminati, was well-heated with neither sight or sound from above penetrating the insulated structure. At its center; a large chamber, home to an equally large meeting table.

Several of the seats were already filled by beings of familiar and unfamiliar appearance. Together they sat in silent contemplation lifting their heads only to watch the door open as the leader of the gathering made his way in.

Emperor Gar stepped in, staring with his one clean eye, wearing his rather more casual outfit of trenchcoat and leather pants, smiling at his fellows from the Echelon and walking casually to his place at the table.

    Two things:

It's for Live and part of the agreement is clear; they can do whatever they want.

This doesn't stop you playing your hardware; it stops you taking it online.

And unless you're a PC owner running something besides Windows; you're in exactly the same boat as the 360 users.
  3. Don't think this belongs here but since I don't want to make another thread for it:

    Accolade: Costume Creator
I was using the MA button to create a few outfits but constantly going through meaningless power selection made me think of a better way of doing it. With the new booster pack making use of multiple build types and the ability to save costumes it suddenly occured to me that why not simply have an in-game online costume creator? Then I thought the best way would be another day job accolade from existing badges for those that have them already and another for people to get.

    [ QUOTE ]
This power allows remote access to the online costume creator of the AE from any location so you can design a new outfit for that next mission idea or your new outfit for the tailor.

    Requirements:
    Architect | Fashion Designer

    [/ QUOTE ]

It acts like the MA Tablet but provides access to the costume creator instead. Perhaps even access to the MA version for custom characters outfits as well.

Are the costume badges awarded account wide or is this a bug?
If it is a bug should I bother to bug it or would that just clog up the system?
It's not a bug. All costume drops count including duplicates HOWEVER when recieving duplicates they do not appear as a "Temp Power Awarded".

So you've got 50 but you had 27 duplicate outfits.

Should be added to the FAQ thread if true since they are a oft-requested feature
  6. In no particular order:

    1) Decorative Rooms & Costs
I'd like to see a 2x2 decorative room available for 25K, no anchor allowed and the price for the rest to be 50K no matter the size since there is a hard limit on the number of decorative items for the entire base now.

    2) Invention Table Reclassification
Invention tables to be changed to a workshop aux so they don't take up a workshop item slot in much the same way the Ouroboros Crystal is a self-powered control aux item

    3) More Decorative Objects
I'd like to be able to make use of some or all of the (MA) collection items for base decoration. I know those terminals do exist in the editor already but they are always attached to something much larger making them a bit unweildy to place.

I'd also like to see decorative versions of functional items. Things like storage racks, power and control items are all limited in how many we can place in a room and on a base plot. It would be helpful if we could have decorative versions to keep the room theme or help for planning future layouts. I'd like to be able to kit out a room (aesthetically) with dozens of storage racks to give it a storag warehouse feel or have multiple Supercomputers for a decent control room

    4) Advanced/Secure Doorway
Like a normal doorway in that it connects rooms together
Unlike it in that it features actual doors.

The doors could range from tech-style sliding doors to arcane mists and they would have permissions like the storages do in that only certain ranks could pass through.

To prevent them being used to block items for raiding (when it comes back) they would be classed as devices which could be destroyed (much like villains break down vault doors to get at money in safeguards and mayhems).

    5) Plain Decor Style
No fancy patterns, just single-colour patterns. It would be nice to have the odd room or two with a one-coat paint job instead of a full blown theme of Hirano, Sewer or Tech.

    6) Rework/Adjust Seated objects
For the office furniture that has desks with seats. I'd like to be able to sit IN the chair not on a cushion of air because my virtual hemorrohoids are playing up again.

Have you seen the stuff she keeps in her Atlas office? One of them is a jar with water from the Well of the Furies... yes, that one! Go check, it's got its own plaque.

And two from Rooster Teeth? I haven't felt a great need to watch anything of theirs since they sedimented on RvB. I haven't watched the Captain Dynamic series either for that very reason.

I don't know who Bill Willingham is either so that's two I don't have any particular revelance for. In this case it's one of those cultural things since comics aren't such hot stuff over here.

The PVP guy, Scott Kurtz, is the only one I actually DO know and that's only because I got the Deluxe edition with the little comic in it so it's the only one I have any inclination to try (although the title is something I'd avoid if I was looking).

Power Cutomisation 1.5 - all the other stuff they missed out for the i16 deadline, perhaps just EATs so they can save pool powers and ancillaries for i18.

    Optimising, revamping, creating anew.

Like with the raid events in each zone (GMs, Troll Rave party, Steel Canyon fires, Ghost Ship) they went largely un-noticed, one was bugged (Troll Rave) and it was up to players to report findings of any of these events. So they optimised it after the complaints of the Vanguard Red Alert text and events got their own channels; one for heroes, one for villains and with their own color too. Optimising.

Faultline, Rikti Crash Site, Hollows; players avoided them and they were changed to better suit the state of play. Faultline got rebuilt, partially, and its own set of story arcs digging into the forgotten history of the zone. The Crash Site, a zone largely unused due to over-estimation of the playerbase who preffered the instanced content. Got its own arcs and a rather fun zone raid event. Hollows got a touch-up too when players started avoiding the zone for its merciless door placements so it got revamped (well, more optimised but Frosty got a new cutscene out of it).

Cimerora, Ouroboros, Praetoria (soon™); new ventures. A zone with possibilities for time-travel arcs, a zone in the past with similar and different potentials and the main focus of GR. New ventures. Flashback in one, the multi-faceted time-travel elements of another and of course the alternate universe which is the setting for the GR system.

So there's always more possibilities (including the dreaded but inevitable shutdown one day).

  11. A flag for default content.

Picture this; I want to make an arc that uses default content (no unlocked stuff) but I've already unlocked one or more (in my case; all) parts for use in the architect. The arc server goes down and I can't make use of the unlocked parts anyway but I might be part way through creating one or decide to create/polish an arc for someone else. It would be nice to know what parts are part of the basic package.

    More maps

I know we've got some coming soon (like next maintenance soon) but only four are new to us. The Crey lab was a removed piece that has hopefully been fixed but there's a few more maps I would like to see like one from the LRSF(?) which is a single room inside a Cap Au Diable building with ruins of the island outside a single window. I like the addition of the demon lab map as well but more is always better. There's plenty more left to choose from but I also wouldn't mind seeing a couple of purposely designed MA ones, maps not yet used but created for future missions in mind.

But whenever I see a character ingame with the 60 months Veteran badge, or the Loyalty Program badge, I will immediately know that the player has been offered a chance to be in the GR closed beta. How are veterans and loyal customers supposed to keep jealousy and nosy questions away?
Simple; 'offered' and 'partaken' are two different states. Some people don't want to try a beta no matter how long they've been here.

I think the 'false info' answer might be a good position to adopt.

I've done it forgetting about the field myself. One charge lost, supression so I can't use another for 15 minutes.

What I wouldn't mind seeing is full power supression like in the quiet room of the AE building. It would certainly fit better than the current system both for power-spammers and the in-game explanation of 'DJ Zero only permits it when asked'

Highlighted the point; mixed teams have no way outside the relatively expensive accolade.

Since the Midnighter's is supposed to be a supergroup; why don't they have one? Or better yet; a mystic variant of the invention table with arcane light instead of the tech table? Hell, even the Cimerorans could have an apothecary table acting as the crafting table for that zone.

The Shadow Shards or "why no-one cares about Rularuu".

As I have a lot of alts that I wanted to get the day jobs for I get them the out of the way places first (the places with no cell reception like Dark Astoria or PvP zones) so I can log in, check progress, maybe drop a mission and then log on to the nezt one. My scrapper had been spending his time in the Shards. I nabbed a 'Rescue the patrol' mission off one of the male scientists (Boyd, IIRC) and dropped it. "That's 3 men who'd never have seen light again thanks to you" was the return dialog (assumption; a 3 person hostage mission).I thought nothing more of it till I logged in several days later, grabbed a near identical mission with a slightly different location and was given the exact same return dialogue. Word for word. Having retained the mission brief I checked what the next mission on offer was; a 'patrol Point X' and ... rescue a patrol... with the near-identical mission brief with a slightly different location.

Yeah, the very definition of filler and DESPERATELY in need of revamping.

Something extended out as I thought about this; 'Remember'. It's something that we take from each mission we do and while we might not remember the specifics; we take the feel of the mission and story arcs with us.

I cite the Hollows and the Shards as prime examples of this. The number of players using the Hollows dropped so much it prompted a revamp. Why? Because people were sick of playing 'run the gauntlet' to try and get to a mission door a mile away that some sadistic piece of code decided to put there. And with Kings Row one tram ride away with its own hospital, paper missions and safeguards giving low level players a temporary travel power it became a more popular alternative. Things were changed because they needed to be and they were changed for the better. You still get the odd crazy door that has you run a gauntlet but it's a significantly shorter run, there's a hospital (okay, triage) inside the zone so no more waiting for returning players from Atlas or Skyway, repeatable missions from Meg Mason (not a lot but they are endless) and Frostfire, one fo the first E-Bs I ever faced got his own cutscene! And it's good. There's new allies in the south along with a few new enemies to keep things interesting. I have to say that I was one of the people who played the old Hollows a couple of times and then steered well clear but I have actually worked through the arcs recently to gain the souveneir for the CoT Trial. It was fun and (as I said on another post) there was some nice UNIQUE scenary popping up. Frostfire's place was suitably iced and one of the Troll caves, despite being cave eleventy-billion, had wrecked cars, barrels, a greenish hue and was much darker than all the others. It felt worn in and left me with a wish to go back and see it again.

I tried a few of the Shadow Shards and they are so bland and boring. Filler after filler in huge zones means you can spend more time travelling than actual fighting (I do take flight though so it may be a factor of avoidance). But it leaves a taste of bitterness. While the enemies are fairly interesting, overseers being freaky-awesome, there just isn't enough to justify spending ANY time there, not with the RWZ, Cimerora and even Peregrine (Crimson's arc anyone?) providing a more galvanised experience. The TFs are long and arduous and I don't know of anyone who prefers to do them unless it's for a) Merits and/or b) badges. In my own list of preferences I'd prefer the burst appeal of ITFs, STFs and the LGTF to doing a shards TF. The only good thing to come out of the Shards is a couple of interesting maps and the Rularuu weaponary which I've not heard a bad word for yet.

Power Customisation is not something to ride home about. It's still quite limited and has only brought City up to an even level as Champions. Maybe when it's finished...

We haven't had any decent story movement since i10 outside of TFs, i12 if we do count TFs not to mention the 5th TF is incredibly boring once you reach Bison in the last mission.

And finally; I'm sick of risk:reward. It's a pedantic buzz-word used to justify whatever nerfs come along in the name of 'balance'. The risk is different for every AT and every combination of powersets that comes along so it's a self-defeating term.
  21. Here's something I like to call:

    250 KPH (Kills Per Hour)

Getting the Fusion Generator might seem like a really difficult task but for Heroes it's actually pretty easy. All you need is a willing volunteer who (preferably) has Linda Summers unlocked as a contact and for both of you to be able to get into Warburg. Ideally they should be level 40+ and fill their inspiration tray with Awakens. Now both of you go into Warburg.

Head for the beach unteamed and you'll soon be enemies to each other. Make sure any and all defense/resistence powers are off and proceed to beat down your volunteer and then let him use a wakey. Now quickly beat them down again, let them rez and repeat until their tray is empty. What you'll find is that each kill, while too soon to allow you to gain rep, will still count towards the kill counter. Your volunteer can use the in-zone hospital and then zone back to Kings and buy more awakens from Linda who is now only a few hundred yards from the Warburg zone helicopter.

From personal experience, dual-boxing with a firekin and mind/ff troller, I was able to kill myself 40 times in ten minutes gaining the Fusion Generator badge within an hour.

    Well several suggestions actually.

    1)
Couple of new costumes, namely the Rularuu Overseer, Rularuu Brute and Rularuu Whisp as costumes.

    2)
Now the Halloween salvage has one function, to gain an extra costume slot, I propose an additional function, after you've traded in for the extra costume slot.

Once you've traded in your second set of salvage a reward screen pops up, similar to those with the Vet reward sands of mu or Ghostslaying axe perma-temp choices.

On that reward screen is a list of all the temp costume powers you've had through trick or treating, you get to select one of those costumes as a perma-temp costume for that character.

This is balanced between the Con temps because while the con temps are awarded on a per account basis, meaning all characters will have access to that one costume, the halloween trade-in perma-temps will only be for that character and that character alone, if you wanted the same costume on a different character, you'd have to trade in two sets of halloween salvage again.

I would kill for a perma-temp Rularuu Overseer costume for one of my characters.

So devs, any idea if this can be possibly be made to work, come on, it would be awesome...
1; possibly, depending on how they set up the costume powers.

2; I don't see this happening this year, not a month away from the event with testing beginning soon. BUT to further the suggestion; why not simply make the Witches have this reward table by default? People turn in the salvage and get the choice of an extra slot or one cossie power.

A few clever skins wouldn't go amiss either. I remember running the starter hero arc years ago and the only one I ever saw 'unique' scenary for was the Skulls' Suparadine lab (the small warehouse with the bubbling green vats). Since replaying them I've seen the Dance Party warehouse, the Council Warehouse and even the Burned Office Block. But once out of there it's generic warehouses and offices for about ten levels till you can see the Faultline stuff.

I also remember being regailed about someone who was going to face Carnies in an Opera house and was confronted with GenericWarehouse215 and a pop-up saying 'This warehouse has great accoutstics...'.

On the subject of AE nerfs working; no, they didn't for me. All I did was swap out my custom mob for a regular one. The only thing I lost out on is the bridging that allowed me to work 1-20 in a couple of hours instead of a few sittings.

In a way though they did work. I've hardly stepped into an AE building since the i16 launch but I'm increasingly dismayed about the state of the game as well as being exceptionally belligerent on the new forums.
  24. Team and feel like I'm being grilled on a gameshow everytime I zone: Nothing says "Are you sure? Positive? Final answer?" than a rediculously annoying pop-up every time you zone AND that it doesn't listen to its own options setting when you set it ten levels below and still get it popping up on a five-below team.

Master of STF; wait, they fixed it before I got this one. Too bad as I actually felt more like an EQUAL rival to Recluse and Co. on the -1 setting.

Look at my difficulty settings and consider what the algebraic formula should read when expanded. I miss just being 'Heroic'.
