One of the first rules of game design is that when realism conflicts with fun, fun wins.
[/ QUOTE ]
Think you could tell Statesman that?
[ QUOTE ]
Regarding the stealth nerf to Burn and Rain powers
From: Statesman
I'm afraid there's not much to comment on.
It's ridiculous to expect that a mob would sit helplessly in a fire. They're being hurt, after all.
[/ QUOTE ]
[/ QUOTE ]
...it was fun to drop a patch of fire on the ground and stand there autofiring taunt while you just watched them slowly burn to death? -
[ QUOTE ]
From those of us with jobs: thank you!
[/ QUOTE ]
From those of us who've had experience with Shadowbane, this goes double.
(Shadowbane: We're going to drop a bane circle on your city and have it go off IMMEDIATELY after maintenence, which is usually somewhere around 3AM.... No one in our guild has jobs/lives, so we'll all be there. What? Your guys can't show up to defend at that ungodly hour? Boohoo, guess we win!) -
[ QUOTE ]
What have I asked for in my entire history here?
An end to nerfs.
[/ QUOTE ]
And, honestly, this would doom a game faster than anything... -
[ QUOTE ]
Everything I say is my opinion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then you need to learn to communicate it as such. As it is, you state your opinions as though they are facts. Then you blame others when they read it as such. YOU are creating the problems... -

Oh god, Puffy.....
He was a reknowned griefer on Virtue too. Used to pull jackass stunts and then come back on the boards blaming it on his girlfriend's little sister.
Or go out of his way to annoy RPers and then petition them for harassment when they got angry and yelled at him.
[/ QUOTE ]
Didn't he have a partner named something like SalsaShark? The guy who was trying to convince the RPers all to move to a different server because he thought RPers were lame? Yeah, right...Let's see, hundreds of RPers move because he doesn't like RP...or just him. Which makes more sense? -
[ QUOTE ]
McBoo, I remember someone like that, but I can't remember names.
DarkTyger, I think we all have our moments on usenet.I don't hang out there now, but I did post intermittently in alt.games.diablo and fairly regularly in comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.rpg
[/ QUOTE ]
AGD would be it.There was a time I was -liked- by most of the posters there. But that was back int he Diablo 1 days. agd managed to resist the sinking of Usenet for a while, but eventually got sucked down with the rest of it.

*Hides* Yeah. CoHDrayvis. Actually, think it was just "Drayvis" at first, changed to CoHDrayvis when the forum bug ate the first one, then changed for global chat to DarkTyger.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I remember seeing you post as DarkTyger on Usenet, and then seeing your name here change (but keeping the same avatar).
[/ QUOTE ]
Usenet... Right. Probably the same me. Mostly haunted alt.games.everquest and alt.games.diablo. Big love-hate thing toward me from most people, I think. Not really proud of how I can get there and on various forums. Can't keep my mouth shut, so to speak, even when I know I should.
I'm sure I know your name. I'm just too....ick from a cold the toddler's grandparents sent her home with to think straight right now. >< -

I seem to remember the very last post by London being on some random doom thread, and I click dev digest and see that Statesman has responded. I was on the dev digest just moments prior to this without him having said anything, so this was brand new. No sooner had I clicked the link to the post than it said Access Denied
[/ QUOTE ]
....gods, London. Didn't he used to be Capt <somethingorother>? He just recently quit, didn't he? I ignored him way back when the first few comic issues had shipping problems and he was screaming "fraud" and hinting at a lawsuit over that.... Or am I thinking of someone else? -

Been around here for ages, though.Take a little over a month off my registration date, my original post ID got eaten by a forum bug shortly after launch.

Is that what happened to the CoH_Drayvis ID? (or was it CoHDrayvis? I forget)
[/ QUOTE ]
*Hides* Yeah. CoHDrayvis. Actually, think it was just "Drayvis" at first, changed to CoHDrayvis when the forum bug ate the first one, then changed for global chat to DarkTyger. -

Wasn't naming names.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I know. I just figure a lot of people would think I meet the description around here.I've tried to lighten up on forums, it just never lasts. *Shrug* Honestly not sure what it is.
[ QUOTE ]
Oh, and just because it's tradition for me to address people I've haven't quite met yet in forum in this manner. *pounces on DarkTyger and gives him a hug*

Yes, there are people here who are snarky and cynical, with less than tasteful senses of humor.

Geez....Burning...
Seriously, I'm honestly a nice guy. Forums bring out a rather aggressively defensive instinct in me. I'm really not like this. Ask the folks who know me in game.('cause, ya know, I'm not tellin' you how to find the ones who know me IRL...)

Can't forget the Queen of Doom herself, Diva Dauntless
"This game will fail unless Geko resigns."
Good Times.

My personal bane was Rommie. While, not an overall horrible poster, she took rabid delight in jumping in every time a discussion over naming came up because I happen to be in favor of the naming guidelines and will report bad names when I see them. Frankly, I'm not sure how she didn't get banned calling me "Herr Drayvis" (Drayvis was my posting name at the time), nazi, etc, etc in nearly every post she made to me.
Shame. Her avatar pic was her, as I recall. She was cute. ^_^ -

This is probably one of the cleanest, gosh-durn nicest forums I've ever come across.
[/ QUOTE ]
That just seems kinda sad to me. These are by far the rudest, most flame-filled boards I've been to.
[/ QUOTE ]
Welcome to the Internet. When you've wandered around a few more weeks, you'll see how clean these forums really are. Just swing by WoW or EQ's forums... -

Who was the guy with his own MMO* who never failed to mention it in ever DOOM post he ever made because his own game was better than CoH in every particular?
I loved that guy.
*Text based hidden cost model
[/ QUOTE ]
Wasn't that the male Dallus? There's a male and a female one. The female is the one we usually see posting here on the boards in leet speak. The male one is usually seen talking about how his MMO is better than CoH.
[/ QUOTE ]
His own MMO that wasn't really an MMO but a MUD, you mean? (Apparantly he thought the "MMO" label was one that could be slapped on any online game...) The one he thought even REMOTELY compared to a real MMO? The one that nobody else here had ever even heard of aside from his yapping? -

[ QUOTE ]
My particular favorite is when someone makes a valid point about the downside of a nerf, and some jackass responds with a post that just says "DOOOOOOOOOOM!"
Yes, I surely love those.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm with you. I believe that if you're on this forum, it's because you have something to say, regardless of whether or not fanboys agree, we have a right to express.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes yes, and what's funny is when anyone disagrees with the "xxxx will kill CoH!", (which is the same broken record heard on every MMO's forums even the most successful, longest standing MMO's) the doomsayers claim that people are trying to deny them their free speech or their right to have an opinion... -

So I was on with my SG on Champion a while ago, and we were doing the Positron TF. At one point, we were ambush right in front of Positron and Valkyrie. So here's all these guys shooting at us, trying to kill us, and Mr. Bigshot "I got my armor upgraded" and Ms. "I have this fancy spear that none of you can get!" are just kinda standing there watching.
THANKS A LOT, LEGENDARY HEROES!
Seriously, though, it would be cool if the trainers got some sort of automated power similar to the police drones. There's just something wrong about the eight most famous heroes in all of Paragon city standing there watching you get pounded on.

All that crap is grey to me, no XP.
[/ QUOTE ]
...you owe me a new keyboard... -
[ QUOTE ]
4) Scrappers should get less debt from dying (they do it a lot they are used to it). Alternatively you can actually have a power that reduces the XP debt from dying.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're either kidding, never really played a scrapper seriously, or majorly suck. -
[ QUOTE ]
"Dont worry regen, small tweek at most"
"We wont nerf based on the min/max build, but rather on what normal players use"
0 for 2 States.... 0 for 2.
[/ QUOTE ]
Get your head out of your posterior:
1) Look at the slotting of the build they used. Most certainly -NOT- min/max.
2) The changes honestly have minor impact overall. They just sound worse on paper than they are in practice. If you, I don't know, PLAY TESTED IT OBJECTIVELY, you'd know that.
Edit: Strike that...reverse it. -

1. Actually, we've tweaked SS in the past; the issues with SJ have slowly evolved over time.
[/ QUOTE ]
What are the "issues"? Why not remove the stealth component from SS in the arena? Maybe up the end cost of SJ in the arena.
[/ QUOTE ]
The most obvious possiblity is they can only adjust how powers effect other players. They can't adjust costs, etc based on where you are or what type of battle you're fighting. Remember, the PvP adjustments of teh Arena are also going to be for CoV when it comes out. Do you have any idea how ungodly it would be to try to code it so that your powers can tell whether you're fighting PvP or PvE and adjust costs and such accordingly? The simplest (and least potentially....disasterously buggy) solution is to change overall effects and how the receiving target treats the effects. A change to, say, how disorient works in PvP isn't a change to Disorient itself, but to how another PC responds under its effects. -

Guys with that figure who wear -ANYTHING- spandex need to be drawn and quartered. I have only a slightly better figure and I know better than to wear that. O.O -
[ QUOTE ]
And yet these very same devs cannot recognize the difference in a +7 minion and a +0 with extra hit points in a demo video that they filmed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good god, you simply won't let that go. YOu can sit up on your high horse about that all you want, but I'll bet you anything that there's a good chance you might have missed it in their place as well. Mistakes happen. They were testing an extreme situation that is not something that would normally happen in live play. Furthermore, it was survivability that was the focus of the test, not killing ability. Thus, the focus was on survival. The problem with the damage being dealt was overlooked. Mistakes happen. Get on with your life or go down there, demand a job, and prove that you can do it better. I'd be glad to see your boss produce a statement that you've never made a dumb mistake before on your job...
[ QUOTE ]
You're right. Removing the debuff from fly would make fliers happy and might let a few people spec out of hover and take AS instead.
[/ QUOTE ]
You forgot about near perfectly safe hover-sniping. Big alpha, fly out of range before any serious retaliation, wait for the alpha to recharge, zoom back in and repeat. I realize now the only reason full speed flight is acceptable on Kheld Nova is that they don't have any sort of snipe-level damage attack... -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Agreed.
We should try NEVER to change a power because of PvP alone (BTW, this is what I've always promised). The changes now aren't solely because of PvP - there's signifcant PvE issues, too.
[/ QUOTE ]
How do you respond to comments that this hurts Blasters, already generally acknowledged to be very squishy, so much?
SS is often the only thing that's saved my Blaster and helped get out of the way...I know Sprint/Swift just doesn't cut it.
[/ QUOTE ]
How do you respond to the fact that countless blasters have been built and survived quite well without ever touching Superspeed? -
[ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, those who like to divide up and street sweep got caught in the crossfire. They aren't engaging in the type of behavior that the devs are trying to hinder
[/ QUOTE ]
But I say they are, just not to the extreme of those standing under the tram. The people that like to spread out in a team across a zone are getting all the benefits of teaming while not actually working as a team. As I keep saying, this is powerlevelling as well, though a lesser form. There's no reason you should get xp for someone's kill who is across the zone from you. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ya know, I often get together with SG mates in PI or the RCS & we just split up & hunt the zone for xp. This tactic completely eliminates that opportunity
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. That "opportunity" is your team powerlevelling each other. You're not hunting together when you do this, you're soloing. The difference is a private channel and the xp you get for someone across the zone's kill. The point of teaming is to work together, not to just share xp. -
[ QUOTE ]
This is what we feared. As people in other topics mentioned, this actually is worse XP than going solo. So the player is penalized XP-wise for splitting from the team. In other words, if you split the team into two teams to complete two tasks, you're actually getting LESS XP than if you created two SEPARATE teams to do the same thing.
[/ QUOTE ]
And the problem is? If you're not working together on the same fights, why should you get xp for them? I don't know, maybe I'm weird in that I don't think we should have to earn the xp we get...
