Completely.
[/ QUOTE ]How do you figure? As a whole the set seems pretty down there to me, especially in teams.
[/ QUOTE ]
Trip mine's still effective even without toe-bombing (which is still possible, you just can't rush in immediately after throwing the SG). Never had a problem getting it to detonate with a handful of caltrops (which are another immensely useful power in the set) and pulling the mob straight over it. AOE snipe level damage more than makes up for missing BU. CD is a great stealth power. SG with its -perception and minor acc debuff is useful even without using it for toe-bombing purposes. TD may not allow you to 6 slot damage into attacks anymore, but it DOES open up another slot in your attacks for other enhancements. Go ahead and throw in recharges, end reducers, or whatnot. Might be surprised what one more slot in each power can do for you. I hear taser s a decent stun.
In the end, it may not be on top anymore, but it's certainly not bottom of the barrel. That'd be fire manip.
All this griping about not being able to TP AT anymore, thing is, I've only ever seen one person using it at all before. Ever. You'd think they just crippled the best power in the set or something. -

I'll give ya a hint, the FF generator doesn't make up for it!
[/ QUOTE ]
Lets see, higher defence then cloaking device (for arguments sake, 3 defence SO) and low status protection. Or, buggy mines that need to be inserted into a mob's shoe using a crap -perception power (SG) which suppress my steath power (CD), best decription for that is "self defeating."
[/ QUOTE ]
You realize if you wait a few seconds after throwing the SG, CD un-suppresses and you can toe-bomb as normal? -
[ QUOTE ]
You're probably right, but it doesn't matter. The end outcome is that two sub-standard sets are now even MORE sub-standard.
[/ QUOTE ]
Two? I've heard /dev called sub standard (although I don't agree), but what's the second one. Surely you aren't referring to traps?! O.O -

[ QUOTE ]
Or is this somehow related to using TP Foe on the bunker turrets in RV?
[/ QUOTE ]
If this is the case, then Thorizdan may have to eat his words about it not being a PvP issue. Man would players howl, for just cause too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, 'cause it couldn't also relate to TP Foe'ing all the other turrets in PvE zones... -

Wait a second here ... <shakes head in disbelief> ... let me get this straight. So not only did Devices not get the help it needs (which every */Dev has been asking for since I3 or so)
[/ QUOTE ]
Before ED, /dev was unparalleled as a blaster secondary. WHo in their right mind thought it needed help?! ED hurt it, but now it's about average. Definately not sorely in need of help.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you serious?
[/ QUOTE ]
Completely. -

[ QUOTE ]
Yes, it applies to Auto Turret.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yet another pointless nerf for a sub par power.
[/ QUOTE ]
People keep talking about this as a nerf to AT specifically. Nevermind all the other powers it effects. I imagine the case was that there was no way to exempt specific 'droppables' from this change and not that the horrible, evil devs just wanted to kick AT while it was down... -

EDIT: Booyah! First after-dev post again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not to be a jerk, but who cares? Seriously, why do people feel the need to make a big deal out of first posts/first after dev posts? -
He worded it in a far less inflamatory way than you did.
Basically the logic, which is accurate, was that too much freedom of choice leads people to either gimp themselves or overpwered "templates". It's far easier to keep things in balance with less free choice. The trick is finding a balance between the two ends of the spectrum.

Pffft....Paragon City Dance Party or Pocket D? Modern nonsense! I remember when we used to throw parties at a big rock in Kings Row, having lasers form mines as the only form of disco lights.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I remember people doing that there, too. And how it was a pain in the butt because they were blocking off one of the major spawn points for CoT for those (at the time) infuriating "defeat 10 CoT" missions. (Mobs won't respawn within a certain radius of people) -
Probably most of these have been mentioned...
I remember when Smoke Grenade was practically godmode.
I remember standing toe to toe with a +6 boss with my regen scrapper and trying to convince people that the fact the boss simply could not kill him was overpowered.
I remember 1-slot perma-hasten
I remember when 6 slotting Caltrops could root mobs to the ground, and they could be tossed over walls for safe (albeit slow) killing of even deeeeeep purples
I remember the firestorm when Capes were introduced with a minimum level of 20.
I remember getting killed while trying to take out Rikti that had opened a portal, ending up on the other side of the map in a prison (on an Oranbega map), and by the time me and my partner got back, the room was -stuffed- with Rikti. God, the parade of them chasing us was a sight to see to be sure! We had to abort the mission 'cause there was absolutely no way to deal with this other than calling in level 50 help, but it was still a cool sight.
I remember the "purple patch" and how it was scaled back slightly from the original. And people STILL complained that they "didn't feel heroic" if they couldn't fight packs of +8 mobs and take them out with ease.
Most of all, I remember thinking when I first heard about CoH "Meh, superhero MMO. Sounds silly". Then when open beta came along going "What the hell, it's free and I'm bored". 3 days later I was begging my girlfriend to let me buy it when it launched. ^_^ I remember thinking nothing would ever tear me away from EQ....then finding EQ(1) drab after CoH. -

I remember playing Regen when people thought it was weak
[/ QUOTE ]
I remember when people thought scrappers were weak in general. (Right after launch) Oh how fast things changed! Kinda goes to show (in my mind) that initial impressions of a character type aren't always accurate and could just reflect a lack of understanding of the tactics required.
Doc:

I remember when hitting 50 actually meant something beyond: "What am I gonna roll up now?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Been here since late beta and I don't remember that. They haven't taken away anything from 50, so what are you talking about?

Which is why most people use "char" or "alt".Bugs Bunny is a toon. A video game character ain't. Unless it -is- Bugs Bunny or his ilk.
[/ QUOTE ]
I remember a thread quite a while back where someone complained about the use of "alt". I think the argument was that it trivialized the characters, implying that they were all "alternates" and only a second (or third or more) choice.
"Char(s)" has also been rejected before as being too confusing to the power Char. "Charrie" has been rejected for sounding twee.
So I suppose the only thing that seems acceptable is "characters" in full.
[/ QUOTE ]
Always gonna be someone who has a problem with whatever term you choose. However, I think that "toon" tends to rub more people the wrong way than any of the others. Mainly 'cause "toon" implies silly and childish. -
[ QUOTE ]
I guess "toon" is quicker to type than "character", this is internet after all.

[ QUOTE ]
Definetly not.
Even the fixes WILL bring more bugs- facing facts, this game will never ever be bug free. No MMO will ever be bug free.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is true, and something I wish people would get through their thick skulls. Constantly evolving code means there -will- be bugs. And a bug lasting a long time does -not- mean it's being ignored, either. Just means that it's more than likely extremely tricky to nail down.
Oh, yeah, and things like adding costume pieces and fixing text errors aren't slowing down the bugfixes for those who insist on carting out that old dead horse every time such a patch goes up... -
Well, what I meant to say was bugfixes, not updates. Sorry.
As for the consumer choice part, that's a whole other issue. My point was the "I pay your salary" argument being used to try to "bully" a person into doing things your way never goes over well.

Also, updates aren't really "part of your $15 a month". All your $15 a month buys you is access to the game in whatever condition it may be in. Nowhere is it stated or even implied that it buys you anything further. Yes, fixing the bugs is sensible business practice
[/ QUOTE ]
So if you picked up a game, brought it home, and found out you could never play with the sound on because of a horrible very obvious bug....you wouldn't want to return it?
The RSF is BROKEN, they need to FIX THIS
[/ QUOTE ]
Of course, but the game is working in this case. Balance issues are not the same as "not working". -
[ QUOTE ]
"Oops, I picked a SO when I meant to pick a SHO"
[/ QUOTE ]
Sucks to be you, be more careful next time?
[ QUOTE ]
"So, I picked a SO. Where do I get my SHO?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Sucks to be you, pay attention to the option list it's giving you and use a little common sense next time?
[ QUOTE ]
Who is going to pick a +3 SO over a SHO?
[/ QUOTE ]
Probably no one, but it does mean no more SHO's disappearing into the void... -
Err, no one said they thought he did say you'd be able to pick the specific SHOE. They're exciting because now you won't LOSE it if you don't notice your tray is full.
Also, updates aren't really "part of your $15 a month". All your $15 a month buys you is access to the game in whatever condition it may be in. Nowhere is it stated or even implied that it buys you anything further. Yes, fixing the bugs is sensible business practice, but your statement is pretty much the equivalent of shouting at a judge "I PAY YOUR SALARY!". -
You're entitled to your opinion, but seems most people like it so far. As such, it wasn't a waste in the grand scheme of things.
-
Psst, Posi.... What's the word on the lack of Lt's spawning in solo missions? Only Lt's currently showig up are preset "scripted" spawns and named Lt's. Bosses that get downgraded on Villainous/Heroic aren't counted here. As far as I can tell, this shows up at all difficulty settings. IMO, this should be a top issue if it's a bug. If it's not a bug, it's a HORRIBLE change. Slogging through all minions gets extremely drab...

Everyone is dead on about bases not being anything special for most players.
[/ QUOTE ]
...which s why one of the selling points I see in most SG recruiting broadcasts is "working base"?
[/ QUOTE ]
I often suspect the reason for that is the SG in question doesn't have much else going for it
[/ QUOTE ]
But to have a functional base would require having active members... -
