Well, he didn't reply to every suggestion that way, just the ones he felt were stupid. And often when asked to elaborate on why he said no, he would.
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny, I've seen completely the opposite of what you describe. Every reply to a suggestion was "no". The only more elaborate replies were when people got onto him about it, then it wasn't to expand on his supposed objection to the post, it was to protest his right to post however he wants or otherwise argue with people. -
The fact that he replied to every single gorram suggestion with "no" and did his best to be the first reply in there is proof in itself. He got more persistent at it the more people bugged him about it. How can you possibly believe that was anything BUT an active effort to get a rise out of people?
-
This isn't a matter of opinion. It's fact. And he made no effort to hide it. If you honestly can't see that, it's pretty sad.
Edit: I mean, for frack's sake, at the end, his avatar was a little cartoon character with the word "NO!" clearly mocking his infamy... -

Yet if you're not breaking the rules, you've got nothing to worry about
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, tell that to jranger who didn't break any rules.
These new "/jranger is bannable" rules were invented to give them a reason to have him banned.
Search his posts. He doesn't insult, he doesn't flame he simply replies "no" to a lot of bad ideas. There was NOTHING in the rules stateing he couldn't do that.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, he replied "no" to ALL the ideas. I don't see how anyone can argue that he was being anything but a troll.
Seriously, when did half of this forum have lobotomies?
[/ QUOTE ]
Since when replying No to something meant anything else than disgreeing with the OP? What is wrong with that? And what is wrong with disagreeing with EVERY darn suggestions that were posted? I see no problem with that. He posted his own disagreement and never were any of you disallowed to simply overlook his reply and move along. How could he harm anyone?
[/ QUOTE ]
What's wrong with it is he was very OBVIOUSLY doing it to troll. And I don't believe for one second that you don't know that yourself. JRanger was a troll. Period. He did it because it annoyed people, and if you followed his post history, there is absolutely NO way you can deny that. He got off on the attention he got from it, and it finally came back to bite him in the butt. He's not a martyr or a victim. He was a useless nuisance. -

Really what she's asking IMHO isn't stifling or draconian. It's asking for posters to be constructive in the forums used to gather bug reports, suggestions, feedback, etc. Even criticism can be constructive, so long as it's not flamey.
[/ QUOTE ]
'No' and '/unsigned' are every bit as constructive and useful as 'yes' and '/signed'. Yet one can lead to banning, and the other seemingly does not.
Something is very wrong here.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I'm pretty sure one-word replies either way are what's being targeted here. It's just that the "no's" are getting more attention because of JRanger's trolling. -

Well, let me put it this way:
If PWNZ goes away, every poster will probably go on a rampage with the express purpose of getting themselves banned. Read: not pleasant for the mods.
I doubt the forum will be going away.

In the real world thats akin to blackmail
[/ QUOTE ]
I wasn't making a threat or something, that's just what would naturally happen.
[/ QUOTE ]
It'll be unpleasant for the mods for about a day. Then it'll be more peaceful and pleasant than it's been in a long time. Since about the time that horrible idea of a forum came into being. -

what does /jranger stand for anyways? I never understood that one.
[/ QUOTE ]
JRanger would reply to every thread he disagreed with:
[ QUOTE ]
no
[/ QUOTE ]
He was then banned. /jranger is now used in memory of his permeating dissent.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh wow, he got banned? I was wondering when that would happen... Although I really don't like that people are trying to "immortalize" his inane nonsense.
[/ QUOTE ]
I see him as a victim and a martyr of the system. He was only stating his opinion. He wasnt insulting anyone.
May god bless JRanger. He fought for freedom til the end.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're joking, right? He wasn't stating his opinion, that was glaringly obvious. He was responding to every single suggestion with simply "no". In fact, I'm quite sure he didn't even read most of the posts he "no"d. It was clear he was doing it because he knew it irritated people. -

This whole thread is making me lmao.
Why would you even do Hami now?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because the path of least resistance isn't always the most enjoyable for everybody? God, imagine that! Finding large group event raids in an MMO to be fun... For many of us, the item at the end of the raid is just icing. It's the actual fight that's the fun part. -

Thumbing through more of the thread, just have one last thing to add:
Wow. A heavily pro-PvP thread being applauded and highly weighted in favor of the OP in the PvP forum. Yeah, try that in one of the other forums and see how the support swings... -

Wow, that explains why almost all of the population is running PvE content, and the PvP zones are almost empty most of the time.
Wait...
[/ QUOTE ]
It also explains why every server is green except for two and the majority of PvE zones are empty "most of the time"...
[/ QUOTE ]
The first half is mostly due to hardware upgrades since launch. The second half is due to the number of zones available more than doubling and HEAVY motivation toward instance missions rather than street sweeping.
Try again.
[ QUOTE ]
there is an eventual terminal point. Some players just reach it faster than others.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is true for any game with or without PvP. People will eventually get bored and leave. Or take breaks. Or whatever. The fact is that even with it's "weak" PvP, CoH is still a successful MMO at well into the 100k mark. In the MMO market, there are a couple of powerhouses that break into the millions, but most don't even hit 100k. -

Wait...
(Tip: the importance of PvP in a game designed from the ground-up to be based on PvP is not the same as the importance of PvP in a game designed for PvE. Also, claiming you know the population behaviour for your servers when you aren't a dev and have no access to that information makes your entire message suspect.)

numbers such as this: http://borkweb.com/story/007-of-the-...ld-of-warcraft
[/ QUOTE ]
A sizable chunk of WoW's population can be attributed purely to name brand recognition. Especially in the Asian market. WoW is the only MMO that counts its Asian market and US/Euro market together in its active account reports. There's a reason for this: Asian accounts work differently. Sure, they have lots of MMOs with millions of accounts, but a lot of those are net cafe bundle-pack accounts that may never even get touched.
There's also the fact that gamers are fanatical about anything Blizzard in the Asian market. So, that number proves diddly.

You realize if you wait a few seconds after throwing the SG, CD un-suppresses and you can toe-bomb as normal?
[/ QUOTE ]
*toss smoke grenade*
*cloaking device suppress*
*WHOOSH!*
*MISS (1 mob)*
Baddie01: Hey Guys! I see a hero over there. *draws pistol
Baddie02: I see him to *picks up piece of asphalt*
Baddie03-12 pick up assorted guns, grenades, swords, rocks, and throw them at hero.
[/ QUOTE ]
You do what you logically would have done pre-suppression: Watch for "miss" floating up and re-apply to catch the one(s) missed. The only difference post-suppression is the wait for CD to un-suppress.

But, then, there are few powersets that the same couldn't be said for. It is my belief that the majority of the griping comes from being too used to the set's previously overpowered status suddenly finding themselves knocked down to the status quo.
[/ QUOTE ]
OH?!?!?! /Device was overpowered since when?
[/ QUOTE ]
Before ED and the SG fix and the caltrops fix. Yes, it was overpowered then. It was godmode before the SG and caltrops fixes.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Odd, always wiped out full packs of minions up to yellow when I used it. Toe bombing isn't a tactic for use while teaming, no, but for street sweeping hazard zones it's rather effective.
[/ QUOTE ]
Shows how long since you really played /device. The only /Device that were streeting were Fire/Device abusing smoke grenade. Nobody really street sweeps anymore except for "Kill X amount" missions. Its far more effiecent to get a mission (reduced debt!) and a better experience reward at the end.
[/ QUOTE ]
Never abused it myself. I streeted quite often, even after SG was fixed. And I saw lots of /dev blasters doing the same. Had one in my supergroup that flat out refused to use SG before it was fixed.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Like I said, /dev is not the godmode it used to be, but it's not as horribly weak as people make out.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its effectiveness got reduced on a power that the majority of /device skip. Auto Turrent, an immoblie/low damage/long recharge/short duration/huge endurance cost power was neutered so its good only for one fight then wait for its long recharge, now compare it to Total Focus which is used every fight often and does a hell of lot damage.
[/ QUOTE ]
AT was rarely used beforehand. Not like it was the key power of the set. More like the booby prize at the end of the road. -
*Sigh* Alright, I give up. Nothing I say will get anyone to waver. All I can say is that everything that supposedly makes /dev "worthless" are things that would have had zero effect on my play style before th changes went in. And I found it highly effective. Of course, the difference may be the perspective of soloer vs grouper. I primarily solo.
And, yes, I was dropping even cons with 2-slotted tripmines. *shrug* Dunno what you're doing wrong if it's not working for you.... -

Name a power with the exception of web grenade, caltrops and taser, and I can point out it's flaws.

Nevermind that I see people do it quite often. But, since I guess anything that counters your whining will be deemed "talking out my a**"... -
[ QUOTE ]
When was the last time you played a */Dev? TM hasn't wiped out even level minions since ED. Unless you get lucky with the extra damage tick now, the best you can do is -2s.
[/ QUOTE ]
Before ED, but it was wiping packs of evens with only 2 SOs. Unless the base damage was reduced when ED went in, I see no reason why they shouldn't still be able to do so. If youre fire/*, toss in fire ball and follow up with a quick fire breath and you can take out up to +3. -

Not to mention when it goes off nothing well be dead, but they'll be mighty pissed.
