Just wanted to comment on the little red box everyone is up in arms over.

Its only purpose is to release NCSoft from liability. No one is policing it and no one's account is going to be banned over it. It's a 'cover your [censored]' statement and nothing more.

I will decide what's appropriate for my children, not some company, thank you very much.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All it takes is for someone like Jack Thompson it find out that they are not enforcing the rule.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except Mr. Thompson has been disbarred ( YAYAYAYAY!!!! ) and that little box doesn't carry any legal weight whatsoever.

I prefer the term "Donkey pants statement".

    missing merits

    [ QUOTE ]
I ran a TF once and did not get the merits reward. I immediately petitioned it, and the merits were given to me because there is a way to track if/when you complete a TF and if the merits were awarded. I would suggest you petition the action.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Has a much better chance than coming to the forums and posting a knee-jerk rant about how lazy the devs are.

Just shows how lazy the dev's are when it comes to fixing problems.

    [/ QUOTE ]

First off, this is a good way to get the devs to put you on ignore. Back Alley Brawler does ignore people who call the devs lazy or stupid. I'm sure others do as well, he's just the only one who has come out and told us he does.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And rightly so, IMO. When a customer goes straight into hostile gradeschooler mode at the first sign of a problem, is that customer really worth the trouble of bending over backwards to help? Honestly, I wish they'd take a page out of old Gord's book. In fact, more businesses should follow his example rather than letting customers walk all over their CS...

I confess I've done this to people in Steel Canyon, but I honestly thought the xp system was like a lot of MMOs (first hit gets all xp.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, most MMOs that came before CoH's xp system was "whoever did the most damage got *ALL* the xp". Didn't matter who hit first. As a former guide in EQ, that was a -lot- of headaches...

The content is Rated T for Teen. It isn't E10+ by any stretch of the definition.
As soon as you as the first Hellion comes at you with a baseball bat or shoots a gun at you it is no longer E10+.
The content that changes in actual game play actually goes to M or AO in some situations.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I Haven't seen anything Red Side in 40 levels that isn't inappropriate for anyone over the age of 10. They can rate it teen if they want but the gameplay certainly isn't teen.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not by your standards. But, there's plenty that is by the ESRB's standards. Violence tends to get a game a T rating, especially when that violence involves guns and flamethrowers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

However, that is negated by the fact no one ever dies. They are just defeated.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again, not as far as the ESRB is concerned. Violence is violence. I'm not saying they're right, just that it's their standards.

    [ QUOTE ]
Weren't all the superman movies PG but they involved fighting and guns to some extent in some situations? Yes I know that the Movie Ratings are independent of Game ratings but there is a parallel nonetheless

    [/ QUOTE ]

Those Superman movies all came before PG-13 and weren't considered violent enough to be R.

    Auto scale arc?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
You've got to use mobs that are specific to the range you want the mission to scale to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How about using my own mobs? How do I set level for them?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Currently, you don't.

It is a Teen game. Personally i think kids should not even touch that game. It is not for them. Simple as that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well it is up to the parent to decide, that is the reason for the rating system. The only thing I really see that could warrant this as 'teen' is the online experience with other players. The gameplay is certainly E10+.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It says right on the box "Children under the age of 13 are not permitted to play"

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No, it doesn't.

True, but when that parent's decision is impacting my gameplay, it becomes my business how they "decide to raise their kid".

And about the possibility of kids playing and the parents have closed their chat window? Honestly, if they parent thinks they can't handle chat, they shouldn't be letting them play the game in the first place. Sorry, this game is rated T. If your kid can't play without interfering with others playing, don't inflict them on us. Or, at the very least, don't just let them go unmonitored and use the game (and us players) as a babysitter.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I have to agree with this as well. If the kid is too young to handle a T-rated game by themselves then the parent has no one to blame but themselves if junior gets upset or learns new words.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Have to disagree, simply because I *know* some of those parents. They'll be nearby and watching anyway - but just because the chat window's there doesn't mean their kid has to be exposed to what goes on in it. Sometimes they DO just want to run around playing with or like their mom or dad, because they have someone dressed colorfully doing *stuff.*

    [/ QUOTE ]

If your kid can't handle it, don't let him play. It's like walking into a bar with a kid and complaining because there are people drinking...

    ^^ sup regdate buddy

Yeah I hate killstealers, one attacked the group I was fighting in Atlas Park and I had to walk almost a hundred feet to find another group, it was awful and ruined my entire game day.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but someone jumping in on one group is meaningless and you should just let it slide like water off a duck's back.

    [/ QUOTE ]

One person doing it is meaningless. When it's commonplace, it stops being meaningless. "Just letting it slide" means that the person's going to be doing it to others. Or possibly again to you at a later date.

    [ QUOTE ]
I almost always see this happen in Atlas Park or Mercy Island. Rarely anywhere else.

[/ QUOTE ]Partially because outside hunt missions, killing enemies on the street becomes uncommon everywhere else.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I saw it a lot pretty much everywhere back when street sweeping was commonplace.

  16. <QR>

True, maybe they don't know, which is why the first response is to ask them to back off. Usually, however, the response is either to ignore me and keep on or get snarky at me about it.

Dropping the mission doesn't always give you the special power though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If the mission awards a temp power, you get it. Though, as I recall, you usually can't drop missions that reward temp powers...
  18. [ QUOTE ]
You don't really need to whine about kill-stealing in this game, since the XP reward system still gives rewards for mobs you damaged

    [/ QUOTE ]

Reduced xp, though. And it is a problem for a slow damaging AT like controllers when they've gone through the trouble of locking down mob(s) and burning them down only to have, say, a Blaster come by, take them all out, and end up getting the lion's share of the xp in a couple shots.

It *IS* extremely rude to KS. And, no, I'm not going to invite some random jerk to my team because he decides to jump in on my fights while I'm soloing.

I hope they have a 2xp weekend this summer, One big weekend long push and I may finally get leader

it will automatically fail anything though

(if its a rescue mission dropping it will fail the mission)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Incorrect.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Yup. Every "levelless" enemy has a hidden level to determine its possible drops. All invasion creatures in the game are level 30. Presumably this is so that lowbies aren't mauled like they would be if they fought enemies with level 50 powers, but 50s still have a challenge (kind of).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unfortunately, they don't scale all that well to low levels. A "levelless" minion is still gonna be a lot harder than an actual level 1 minion for a level 1 character.

Vista is buggy enough with just a mouse and keyboard.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ooh, knee-jerk Vista pot-shots. How clever.
  24. Haven't heard of it before. Is that all it is? Voice controls? From the trial part, sounds like it has a subscription fee involved. Not worth it, IMO, no matter how low the sub fee is...

The sun emits deadly radiation. Just saying.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Funnily enough, that's actually true. Overexposure causes burns and cancer. In fact, without our atmosphere's protection, it'd be even more deadly.
