Quote:Yes, character wipes in an existing game is TOTALLY the same thing as not allowing new transfers to a sequel. And we've all seen how much not allowing such transfers have hurt other sequels....oh, wait, it hasn't. Ever.Do a character database wipe and see how well that argument holds up. Yes, some of us have played other games. I have a hard time imagining those of us who've been here for eight years and sunk thousands upon thousands of hours being willing to start over in a new game full time, however.

Hell, even the giant elephant of an MMO in the room doesn't do TV ads often. They did a batch a while back, but generally don't bother. 'course, they're already huge and they used actual celebrities for theirs...

Quote:I wouldn't say the MMO industry is in trouble because of that. The industry has always gone through "gluts" of certain types of games, then those types have died off. Sidescrollers were everywhere for a long time, replaced by fighters ( Street Fighter, etc ), which died off to be replaced by FPS games. MMOs have sort of squeezed in between the cracks and gotten their own glut, but oversaturation is kind of wearing them out.Like someone had mentioned the MMO market isn't what it used to be.
As for gaming in general I guess that could boil down to opinion and what you like..
I don't think MMOs will ever actually die, though. I think the whole concept of large-scale online games is pretty much the inevitable future of gaming. However, the "Everquest/WoW model" of MMOs is likely to fizzle out relatively soon. -
Quote:I'm pretty sure that's what whacko Jacko was trying to do when he made that other superhero game. And, well, we see how that worked out.A true sequel to CoH seems unlikely.
A spiritual successor to CoH (new universe) is possible. Paragon is working on another MMO now and I'd like to see them tackle something other than bog-standard high fantasy but it remains to be seen just exactly what it is they are doing. -
I do agree that most are worthless, but I wouldn't argue against seeing more of them. A lot of them are good "flavor" powers, even if they are fluff. The idea has been put forward before, and I'm all for it, of adding a "squelch" filter that you can set up to auto-delete recipe, enhancement, etc drops that you feel are worthless. It wouldn't affect the drop rate one bit, just save the player the trouble of deleting them to make room.

When your opinion centers around denying content for others just to save you a very minor inconvenience, deal with the fact that others might express their opinion that you're being selfish. I dare say I understand what this forum is a lot better than you do... If you can't deal with people's reactions to your opinions, perhaps you should keep them to yourself. I know, it's a real horrible and disappointing shock that not everyone agrees with you. You'll adjust.

Quote:The real problem was that the damage didn't justify the long animation. Flurry isn't taken for that reason, too, but it's a pool power. Not a primary attack. Shadow Maul does more damage and can hit multiple targets. Storm kick did less ( it was a series of small hits back then as well ) and only hit one. Instead of upping the damage or making it an SM style cone, they shortened the animation and made it a single hit attack. Honestly I would've rather kept the longer animation and had the damage upped. No different then Shadow Maul and Flurry which stayed. And it couldn't have had a longer cast time then the Total Focus line of animations.
Crane kick had a cool animation too. -
There are these wondrous things called "endurance reduction enhancements" that most of us use... Not to mention, as said above, it's the highest self-heal of armor sets and fastest recharge. Add in that more targets make it even better, and its end cost is a bargain.
Mag 2 isn't great for a controller, but for a melee class who doesn't often have access to such things, especially in the form of a PBAOE toggle? ( Expensive toggles, perhaps, but, again, in the right situations, more than worth it ) -
I don't get what you're saying here. The set has great resists. Best psi resist of any of the armors, I believe. Cloak of Fear and Oppressive Gloom are both great situational utility abilities. Hell, Dark Regen is just icing, not a crutch by far. Honestly, it's an "ohpancake!" button. And the end cost isn't that prohibitive.
-
Quote:Pair it up with Staff and it rocks hardcore. The end reducer form makes it perfectly plausible to run stacked armors without running out of end.Oh, and I had so blissfully forgotten about the garbage set I didn't mention it earlier, till someone in game reminded me.
Dark Armor sucks. Well it does for the non-math nerds who don't run quadratic sawtooth elliptical equation correlation exercise calculations to determine survivability tangent causation standard loops.
Yes, with IO's it becomes decent. But without them, it's a horrible not fun at all set.Just need some KB protection.

NCSoft is one of the biggest MMO publishers in the world. Your thread title is idiotic.

Quote:Now, I won't go into the quality of RP, as you were in Pocket D and, well....best to avoid that. However, why's it so weird to roleplay characters being in a relationship? For an RPer, they're telling/acting out a story. How's it any weirder than an author writing about a character in his books being in a relationship? Only difference is these are stories with multiple authors. ( In the Pocket D's case, usually the quality authors you find on fanfic sites, granted.... )Ok so I recently moved to Virtue and I am not really into roleplaying. I mean I write my character biographies, have a concept, etc. but some of the stuff people do baffles me.
I am not trying to slam someone else's gaming experience, I am merely trying to understand. So thats what I came here asking.
Anyways, I am in Pocket D and I am running Gladiator matches for badges. I keep appearing next to this "couple" and I am catching their conversation. First let me describe their outfits:
Player A is wearing a school girl outfit, high heels, max boob slider, etc. Player B is also a female character with purple stockings, long legs, etc. Well when I started noticing the conversation they are flirting back and fourth and then eventually roleplaying making out. Granted I am popping in and out of arena so only catching bits and pieces of the conversation.
Eventually they are roleplaying, or maybe were the entire time, the naughty school girl getting seduced by the teacher. The teacher is female and so is the student. The teacher is telling the student if you get an A you get a special reward nudge nudge.
Then they start talking about being in a relationship and asking to be the other's girlfriend. So mind you we have two people roleplaying here two female characters making out, that are teacher and student, getting a bit graphic, and then being in a relationship.
From an outside perspective, this seems bizarre to me. I could understand roleplaying this with your wife or girlfriend in a real life bedroom situation, but in the game? Does this go on a lot in roleplaying?
The other thing that baffles me is its two female characters, I am sure one or both players are male. Does this have an effect at all? Or does the player fantasize the other is female?
I am literally trying to understand the behavior and maybe a poster out there likes to do this. What does it do for you? Is it simply fun? I can accept that. -

Quote:Hmm. Ryzom, maybe?I remember one MMO (fantasy based...don't remember the name of it; don't think it's up and running still) that my former boss was interested in.
This is from memory but I think you got a power (let's say Fireball) and then for either money (game money not rl money) or some sort of fee, you could modify the power. So if you wanted it to do more damage, you could make a 'new' Fireball that does more damage (but now it costs more mana/endurance or what have you).
I'm sure that may be harder on the dev team but I'd love to see something like that. -
They're intentionally not using something that would make them more effective. Yeah, they're nerfing themselves, and to say they're not is just being dishonest ( Or showing that you don't know what the term means ). It's like saying a petless MM isn't nerfing himself by not taking pet powers. Yeah, it's possible to play without them and one can even be decently effective...but the difference between having them and not having them is rather dramatic.

Quote:Funny, I manage to accumulate enough inf for IOs through natural play. Or do you not consider selling recipes and salvage on the AH to be "natural play"?If I accumulated the resources to readily slot any given character with IOs through natural play, I would do so. But that's not what happens - what happens is that I accumulate the resources to slot the character with SOs, which are also conveniently available from vendors. So, yes, I suppose I "choose" not to get involved with IOs because the system is in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of the leopard."
-
So, free players and those who choose to nerf themselves. Gotcha. The latter, that's their own play choice. The former...IMO, their "vote" doesn't count 'til they're paying.
-
Quote:Nerfs and buffs are part of balancing. Deal with it. As long as they don't overdo either, it's fine.Just hearing that today got me thinking, what if I24 is another big balancing act like ED or GDN? Some powers could get gutted like Rage or Drain Psyche.
Thoughts?
( Honestly, by the way, I think ED improved the game by forcing people out of what was ultimately inefficient slotting habits. And with IO builds, who the hell notices GDN anymore?)

Where's option 3: It's semantics, who cares? Not worth the trouble.

Quote:Fight? I corrected you an an obvious misconception you were expressing ( That the poster you were replying to was suggesting using spam to advertise CoH ). Why do so many people on the internet think that correcting them or disagreeing with them = "picking a fight" or "jumping down their throat"?Because I made one offhand comment and had you jump down my throat assuming my knowledge on the subject was somehow limited and that I wasn't 100% "technically" correct in how I said what I said. Big effing deal. It's a gaming message board, not one of my friggin' business classes in college.
Oh please. You're the one that decided you wanted to *fight* about this.
Have fun shadow boxing kiddo. -
Quote:As I said before, I can play all of the single player offline games that I have just fine without an internet connection by launching Steam in offline mode. *shrug* Dunno what folks are talking about with "always on DRM" when they talk about Steam. Might be some individual games that have that, but none of the ones I have.Constant Internet connections for non-online games are asinine.
That's just my opinion.
I bought a single player game to play just that: single. *******. player.
Whether I have an online connection or not shouldn't matter if i never intend to use any of the online features . . . which for single player games, I don't.
Imagine when PSN went down for a month due to hacking last year, if your entire PS3 library of games was unavailable. I'm sure that'd be a lot of fun.
