Quote:Which is completely different from what it used to mean. Though, the other meaning has been fixed, hasn't it?I'll just list some of the more common ones.
Anchor: An enemy on which a certain debuff or other power is attached.
For example, Enervating Field from the Radiation Emission powerset is a toggle which is applied to an enemy. If I attach the debuff to Statesman, then Statesman is considered the "Anchor"
Basically it refers to killing large numbers of the same types of mobs over and over again. Either for badge credit or xp. -
Quote:As long as you're not saying you're a Kheldian but altering Kheldian lore, then where's the problem? Anyone who says there's a problem is wrong. However, there are mixed feelings about RPing Kheldians that aren't actually Kheldians but something else entirely.
When the game doesn't offer you the tools to directly create your concept, work within the tools to get as close as possible. Sometimes Kheldian fits the bill.

Quote:What's okay? As far as the rules are concerned, no foul language is. It's a violation of TOS, period. And trying to use roleplaying as an excuse to violate the rules is just an insult to the rest of us real RPers out there. You agreed to the rules, RP within them. It's kind of like people who use the excuse "I'm playing a villain!" to scam, KS, etc people. There's a difference between RPing a jerk and BEING a jerk. What's ok, and what isn't?
I'm a roleplayer - and a rogue/villain that doesn't even use the f-word strikes me as silly.
That being said, in private communication channels with your friends and/or SG-mates who are all okay with foul language, knock yourself out. Just understand that if someone DOES get offended, they can report you and you will receive a warning ( Or suspension if you've had multiple warnings already )
But, being a villain/rogue doesn't automatically mean you're a potty-mouth.
Don't even start that. Yes, there's a filter. Same as in most every other MMO out there. It has zero impact on the profanity rules in those games, why would anyone think this one would be any different? The filter is there to catch "slips" or to have the option of blocking seeing those who do choose to ignore the rules. The fact that it's optional, however, is irrelevant. It's imperfect and catches completely innocent words/phrases, so there's the option to turn it off. Turning it off does not mean that the person wants to see kids swearing enough to make a sailor blush, though. -
Quote:Heh, you got a nice deal there. Collector's bundle City of Villains by what you described. Considering it comes with a free month, you come out ahead. Heck, if you decide to stick around and they have more at that rate, I'd recommend grabbing them up. You can apply the codes for the free months.Indeed, but the fact is:
i was buying some stuff for my office (in the Office Depot), when i see the
game in the junk box (the things with discount).
the price. 5 bucks with:
-Cd Game
-Helix Figure (the fish guy)
-Two Posters
-A bunch of free tickets to play Trials
-A Collector Card
-And a very nice book
-oh, and the instructions

Quote:Well, it is a six year old game and one that was made with an attempt to not over-tax systems that were 'average' at that time. Considering the large number of civilians that crowd some areas, it's good that they're a bit spotty on the detail. Especially when Independence Port's civvie spawning is buggy and they're just swarming the sidewalks in ridiculously dense packs.LOL no, MS Paint is for Noobz.
Im a Digital Designer btw (games, design and 3d model).
No, is the best i could do before breakfast
(30 sec lol).
Never mind.
Well, i really dont care the look of the civilians, but is hilaryous
how "well" detailed is the enviroment... and the civilians... well...
rendered with PsX engine.
Anyway, MMOs tend to be a bit behind the curve on graphis compared to single player ( or non-massive multiplayer games ) because of the large number of player graphics that have to be rendered in one area, which tend to be more demanding than NPC and environment graphics. So, those two get skimped on a bit to save processing requirements. -

The update wasn't 2.5gb. That was the updater APPLYING the patch. Basically writing it into the program. That was not the updater downloading anything.

Quote:130k players is good for an MMO. It's well within the healthy range. The problem is that too many people let WoW throw the curve off in how they perceive things. The simple fact is that the majority of MMOs either don't break 100k or don't hold over 100k for long. CoH has been in the mid to upper 100k range for its entire run.Don't get me wrong, I'm not a CoH hater, I love CoH. That's why I'm so concerned for it. Running for almost six years now, CoH is pretty dated. It's graphics aren't that great ( But we're hoping Going Rogue fixes that ), it's engine is dated and it's combat may be a little dated as well.. I also notice many of the servers ( Guardian for instance ) are nearly dead ( Almost empty ) and the most populated servers don't seem to have that many people on them in the great scheme of things.
Recently I had read that CoH released their subscriber numbers for 2009 and it rounded nearly 130,000 people ( Not quite reaching 130,000 - Something more like in the 128's or something, I think. ) and I notice quite a lot of talk.. Well, everywhere.. From CoH players, haters and lovers alike.. Frankly I'm worried for the game..
It'd be nice if NCSoft staff could answer this, but I don't hold my breath for that.. My question is.. How much is actually riding on the release of Going Rogue being successful? If it's unsuccessful, is that it? Are we looking at dealing with another Dungeon Runner or Tabula Rasa?
I hope the game will be okay, but.. At the moment from looking at subscription numbers, discussion and the facts.. It looks kind of grim.
Edit: Heh. Didn't notice the date of the OP. Necroposting FTL! -
Quote:Oh, I see it used quite a lot for its original intent and purpose.
I'm not saying it's a failed feature because it induces exploits. In my opinion, it is a failure because it is, as it stands, far away from it's original intent and purpose, and that it has done a lot more harm than good in a cost vs. benefit analysis, as a whole. -
Quote:"Same theme" costume isn't going to get you generic'd. "Near copy" will. There's a whole lot of space between the two. What are the prerequisits to make a themed character without it getting generic'ed? I want to make a patriot themed character. NOT Capt. America! NOT Statesman. Patriotic. I want a red white and blue toon, a star on my chest or star pattern, with a patriot themed name as well. I dont even want the shield power! I want swords, or dual pistols, any other powerset! Is this something feasible?
I just feel that no matter what this will get generic'ed. Who would be the best person to PM about this?
thanks for letting me post! -
But all that holds true for the game as a whole. There will always be exploits in the game. Period. AE just made it easier to "gather them up" for easy access.

Actually, that answer was a shift in what I replied to. It went from being told they can't effect me to "quit the team if you have bad team mates". Sorry, but that effects me. When I have to go through half a dozen or more teams or kick at least as many team mates before I find a team that's not being ruined by idiots, then they are, in fact, affecting me very much. The only way for them not to affect me at all is for me never to have to put up with them even for a short time. And the only way to manage that is, yes, to be psychic so I know in advance what kind of person a new teammate is before I ever play with them.

Quote:Well, if you've got a "crappy PC", I don't imagine the maxfps will do you much good. If you're hitting more than 35 FPS regularly, of course, I wouldn't say your PC's all that "crappy" myself.. If not, then the setting will be useless to you.I'm trying to increase my crappy pc's performance for the game.
Found this thread, tried the /maxfps # and didnt' notice much of a change.
How do I change the "E:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -maxfps 35 -maxinactivefps 5 thinger? or maybe where is a better answer.
I got to program files\city of heroes ...but couldn't figure out how to change it.
Thanks in advance!

Quote:No, it most certainly does not have to be exact.trademark, yes. copywrite, no. if it was true that you could copywrite a name, anyone would have free reign to file lawsuits against anyone or anything that had the name. in order for a trademark violation to go through court it has to be the same exact thing as the original, i.e.: same name, costume, powers...
-
Quote:They settled, yes, but after nearly a year in court and managing to get several charges dismissed. It was not cheap, though. What court battle? I remember a lawsuit that got settled out of court, but there was no court battle. Sounds like you're talking out your rear.
Except when they're unique names created for the work that contains them. ( Edit: Pardon, that's trademarking for the names. Still, legally protected. )Quote:True, it doesn't have to be on the list to be copyrighted. Like I said before however, you can't copyright names. Therefore, that name is not copyrighted. -
Quote:If you can find one instance of the name that predates Diablo 2, then I'll agree with you.Every name of every game character was "borrowed" at some point. It's not as though they invented the name. Pretty petty, if you ask me.
Otherwise, admit you're talking out of your rear.
After going through a long and EXPENSIVE court battle, they aren't taking chances.Quote:So, are the mods working under the assumption that if something shows up in another game, then it must be copyrighted? Are they doing lookups on the US copyright database (http://www.copyright.gov/)?
"Diablo" shows up 512 times..."Izual" doesn't.... I'm just wondering what the guidelines are.
And it doesn't have to be on that list to be copyrighted. As long as an author can show they created the work first, they are the copyright holder in terms of legality. -

Well, not legitimately, but it is a good point. The AE exploits did cheapen any "sense of accomplishment" having unlocked the epics with a 50 might have had by a LOT.

Well, there's your problem. It's a game, not a **** measuring contest.
