Quote:Tell me more about how that apple compares to this orange.Because no-one would have assumed that in a costume pack called Gunslinger there'd be few to no parts capable of making a female gunslinger, would they?
But you're wrong there. It's just that you have a different idea of what a female gunslinger should look like. -
I'm totally baffled as to where you're getting that it looks like they DIDN'T. Just because they didn't succeed doesn't mean they didn't try. And the story's not over with yet. As others have said, it's damn common for heroes to take a pummeling in a story arc in comic books before ultimately scraping out a win, and sometimes that win is barely by the skin of their teeth with heavy casualties along the way.

Quote:Thing is, the villains aren't getting any full victories either. I just think that you can't score the villains a point without having to give the heroes one as well. It's not the missions that are skewed in favor of the villains, it's your scoring system. Both sides end up with gains and losses.I'm actually curious as to hear how you came to this conclusion? I haven't played many of the arcs redside besides SSA1 and 2, but if you can add something to the discussion, please do. I'm interested in hearing a perspective.
And I don't honestly think I'm being too generous/stingy with the points. I mean, sure, in SSA1 you save Synapse...but only because the villains didn't RTFM, which (in my mind) diminishes the value of the victory. Heroes only prevailed because the villains didn't read the booklet that came with the magic artifact. It's hard for me to feel proud when you realize you won on a technicality.
And Alexis' death in SSA3 feels like the cheapest blow because it occurs at a time where the heroes have NO idea as to her status until after the fact. If the heroes knew she was going to be killed and just failed to reach her in time, that'd be fine. I could live with that. But that she's killed while you're doing other things (Warburg missiles) means you didn't even have a slim chance of getting her back at all, or even knew she was going to be killed in the first place. -
To be perfectly honest, I think you're being way too generous on the villain points and too stingy on the hero points. But, I suppose if you don't view anything other than a total win for the heroes and total loss for the villains as a point for the heroes, then you're right.

Quote:A revamp like they did for Faultline would be great for all the hazard zones. In addition to story-content, a hospital, trainer, and at least a generic enhancement store to dump "fluff" at.Just something that I've been curious about since they announced the new Dark Astoria revamp, how it will have various amenities and obviously all the solo incarnate content. An then thinking about a new zone like First Ward and how it is essentially a ghost town.
So, here's a question for the masses. What needs to be in a zone to make it an active hub for player activity? -
Quote:Ah, cool, then. Yeah, it's about time they wiped Whacko Jacko's persona from the game.

Quote:Have they actually confirmed States is dying? I mean, I know he's a likely suspect, but there are other possibilities just as likely barring anything official having been stated by the devs...I've been hoping for some kind of CG to sell this game to the uninformed. I would imagine the death of the games mist iconic figure would rate at least the treatment the introduction of bases did. I know these things are expensive, but the returns are tremendous.

Actually, it most certainly IS racism. Racism isn't necessarily negative, but it can be offensive either way. Yes, even positive racial stereotypes can be offensive to those of that race, especially to those who don't live up to said stereotype. ( "Here, Keichi can help! Those Japanese kids are great at math!" )
-
Family Guy annoys me. They use offensive crap in lieu of humor. Sure, the show gets a chuckle out of me now and then, but it too closely follows the trend these days of being stupid rather than funny. ( Example: The Hangover. 1 and 2. Ugh... )

Quote:Eh, no, it's nothing like this. It's more like seeing someone light up next to you in a restaurant with "NO SMOKING" signs posted on the door and complaining to the manager. See, one of the rules you agree to EVERY DAMN TIME YOU PLAY THIS GAME ( Right there after you enter your login info. That big thing with the "I Agree" button at the bottom? That's the rules. Might wanna skim them sometimes. ) is that you won't use profanity in the game.To me, it is like going into a clearly marked smoking section in a pub, then moaning about not being able to breathe.
That said, I do agree that the "B-word" is hardly considered profanity anymore ( Key word: "hardly". Some people still consider "hell" to be profanity, but not enough that anyone bothers to censor it anymore ), being one that isn't even censored on network TV anymore. Hell, I don't even think the profanity filter catches it, but I'm not sure about that. I'd have contested it. And, yeah, I also swear occasionally in-game, but only in private channels with my SG where I know everybody is okay with it. Is it still against the rules? Sure. But, no one's going to be offended by it there and report me, so it doesn't matter.
Quote:Yeah I have to turn it off because it autocensors the word Nippy.
Nippy in British slang means 'it's kind of cold outside' as in 'it's a bit nippy today'.
And we Brits do love talking about the weather.
Quote:Back in the 1940s in the United States, "Nip" was a derogatory term for a person from Japan (deriving from "Nippon", one of the transliterations of 日本).
Anyway, that's what people mean about the filter being too sensitive. It smacks down words that have only obscure racist connotations or even ones that happen to contain a string of letters that might be profanity if you take the rest of the letters away. >< The filter is dumb about context, and that's big enough of a flaw for a lot of people to turn it off. -

Quote:a) shouldn't be playing this game at all, then. Practically everything you do in the game is gambling in some form.... Whether it's the hunt for random drops or being at the mercy of the RNG for every single attack and defense roll...Let's pretend, at the moment, that there are two possible outcomes:
1) Costume set is only available via superpacks
2) Costume set is available via superpacks AND for purchase directly like other costume parts.
Let's examine 4 types of people that want the costume parts:
a) Is against gambling with real money in any form, and won't ever buy Super Packs.
b) Is against using exclusive items to coerce people who otherwise wouldn't gamble into gambling with real money, and won't buy Super Packs if they contain exclusive items on principle. Otherwise is at least willing to gamble.
c) Doesn't like gambling, but would gamble if they had to to get costume parts they wanted
d) Likes gambling.
So, if #1 is the case, you'll get money via Super Packs from c and d. If #2 is the case, you'll get money via Super Packs from d and maybe some money from b, and money from a, c, and maybe b from the purchased costume sets.
All 4 types are customers, and are willing to pay money, and a and b won't pay money unless there is an alternate way to pay money for it that they don't find distasteful. Does that make sense? -
Quote:Actually, it does change that fact. Quite a bit, really. At least, it changes the value you've assigned to them substantially.Edit:
Given data later in this thread, the 1 reward token should be $10, not $15. Yes, you get additional stuff for subscribing or buying points. This doesn't change that the Reward Tokens seem to have a higher value than the developers are assigning to this super pack bundle. As far as the packs themselves, the developer's value of the packs doesn't seem to match the player's perceived value of the packs. -
That's the thing - there's already a LOT of options for a classic spandex hero. There's really only so much you can do with it, though. It comes down to "tights and slap on a pattern". There are a range of accessories, but there's no reason a lot of the accessories that go with, say, a more anime style can't also work with a spandex look.
-
Quote:I don't usually like the spandex look either. A lot of comics have moved away from it. A good number of superhero movies as well ( going more for the leather look. Few exceptions that can't really be done in non-spandexish like Spiderman, though ). I read comics, I watch superhero movies, and I definitely play CoH. So there.Well you've kinda come to the wrong game then, I think. I mean, look at Statesman. Or the Freedom Phalanx in general. Look at the classic COH image below and tell me that the game wasn't intended to represent the classic spandexy superhero genre that you think is so lame. Most folks I know of who think that motif is lame don't read comics, don't go to superhero movies, and don't play COH.
CoH is intended to INCLUDE that motif. It sure as hell isn't intended to be exclusive to it. It's actually rather obviously intended to include as many "superhero-esque" motifs as possible. And, yeah, that would include anime. -
Quote:Naruto is as bad anymore. Bleach started out good, but kinda turned into DBZ with better artwork partway through the first season.Actually I think most people these days think of naruto and bleach when it comes to that sort of thing...but Code Geas and Death Note are also very popular too...
-
Problem comes around in people who only are familiar with it in passing who generalize it based on some BAD examples of sub-genres. Someone catches an episode of DBZ and suddenly believes all anime is spikey-haired freaks shouting incoherently for 15 minutes amid a slew of flashbacks before even starting a ridiculously OP-ed fight. The ones who are in that category and who will refuse to even watch far better examples of anime such as Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Deathnote ( to get a more recent one ), and so on are the most annoying to deal with. Those are the ones like the OP who tend to get confrontation about what the perceive as "too much anime influence" in a game such as this.
-
I mean, I get being into odd stuff. Watching the show, I'd find weird, but whatever floats your boat. It's the near religious fanaticism that I don't get. ( Sorry for the tangent. I'm done now. )

*facepalm*
Why won't that fad just die already? Grown men watching a show made for preteen girls. Not just watching it, downright OBSESSING over it. What the hell is wrong with people? -

The graphic for a sheathed weapon isn't there, but that isn't an issue with the set being illogical. Just a technical limitation. Properly using a shield while wielding a two-handed axe? That's illogical.
