This is an issue of perception vs reality. What we're discussing here is common perception.

No, I'm obviously not or this thread wouldn't be here. Other people in this thread have also expressed the same view I have. Have you not been reading?

Not for a long time now. The more mature "cartoons" aren't even generally called cartoons anymore, by the way. Usually terms like "animated films". ( "Anime" catches the whole range of Japanese animation, from the kids' stuff to the adult stuff )

Also, do you watch any cartoons?

Yes. And I've never seen one where I could control the characters in it.

Nah, it still rears its ugly head from time to time. more in some MMOs than others.

It's generally specifically applied to film/TV animation. I've never actually heard anyone refer to video games as "cartoons" except for the folks using "toon" to refer to their characters. Even then, it's only ever been "toon". I've never heard anyone call a character a "cartoon". That also brings up part of the issue with the term. People aren't calling their characters cartoons, they're specifically calling them "toons". Which brings to mind Who Framed Roger Rabbit: Silly, goofy, childish, slapstick buffoons.

It is interesting that on several online games, including coh in certain circles, using toon seems to reflect ignorance or stupidity. Yet it is perfectly acceptable to shorten entire phrases like IMO, OMG, BRB, AFK, LOL, LMAO, ROFL. ROFLMAO, Bio break, LFT, LFM, OOC, ((OOC)), BBL, Gratz, etc, ect ect! We have no qualms abbrieviating just about anything to shorten our chats but "TOON" is taboo.
It's not the shortening that people take issue with, but the use of "cartoon" at all to refer to a video game character. It, to many people, tends to put forth a more childish image of what it is. ( Yes, I know there are very mature cartoons out there, but the broad perception of a cartoon is still "kids' stuff" ). Shortening a different word to refer to characters wouldn't be met with so much opposition: "char" or "av" ( for "avatar"). "Alt"/"main" tends to work as well

When I say "cartoon", I'm never referring to a video game. So, I'm not the one draping it with more meaning than what's really there.

It's one of those topics that, for some reason, touches a sore spot with some people. Similar to threads complaining about guys playing girl characters, although those are more volatile due to the rampant homophobia...

There are alot of things about this game and it's players that drive me loopy. Catgirls, Fire/Kin roflfarmers, "Dark Lord Dark of Darkness" characters on blueside, to name a few. But there is one thing that has been slowly plucking at my nerves non-stop since I started my career of defeating enemies by bludgeoning them with my own health pool: People using the word "Toon". Maybe it's the childish, degrading nature of the term instantly calling to mind Bugs Bunny slapstick*, serving to remind me that I am in fact a 26 year old manchild playing a MMO instead of getting drunk and grunting at football games like a real man.
Basically, it comes from the grossly narrow perception that animated image = "cartoon".

Where are the dev letters or state of game address? It would be nice to see the game head in a fresh direction as it is rather repetitive.
Are you kidding? Weekly Q&As ( On Facebook, yes, but a clean-up transcript is always posted here, easier to follow than the actual FB discussion because the answers are placed right under the questions ), frequent "redname" postings in the forums, etc.... The dev communication is outstanding, you just have to open your eyes.

No, that's not "telling your opinion". That is ordering someone else not to tell their opinion. The difference isn't that complicated to grasp, as it's rather large and obvious.

Kind of funny you telling me not to "mini mod" and how you can post whatever you want as long as it follows the rules ( speaking of which, personal attacks and filter dodging are NOT "following the rules".... ) while also telling someone else what they should and shouldn't complain about...

I didn't say you can't post this. Just that you were being rather foolish doing so.

Yes, because nobody EVER did speed TFs/Trials before Lambda....

Oh, wait, yeah, they did. All the damn time.

We can all make a wishlist and post in a blog.

It's one thing to play the role of a journalist and report what's going on. Sure, some one guy can do that fairly well and fairly objectively (though never completely). I'll pay attention to that.

But it's another thing when there is a review, or a wishlist and it's all one guy's opinion. Get an editorial board made up of people who have been successful in the industry or who've done real research into what makes MMOs successful, *then* I'll pay attention.

Until then, anyone posting a suggestion in the suggestions forum has an equally valid point of view.
So, just out of curiosity...which blogger peed in your cheerios?

Oh, god, I wanna know what the hell he was smoking to make him think that was a good idea even as "just an example". 2 Primaries in addition tot he secondary? No. Not in any form.

Pocket D can be pretty bad with the ERPers at times. Some idiots brazen enough to go all-out with it in public channels, then get all shocked when a GM shows up with the ban stick........ It's not as bad as some folks make out, though. Still, I'd say it's best to avoid Pocket D most of the time.

The unfriendliness and elitism were shocking. Contrast this with another channel dedicated to speed TFs that I'm also in, which was generally friendly and cooperative without drama. I left the RP channel soon after.

It's cliquish attitudes like this that have always made me think twice about joining any sort of RP supergroup.
It's not "cliquish elitism" when the wariness isn't totally uncalled for. RPers are quite often the favorite targets of trolls and griefers. Some take it in stride. Others....they become kinda paranoid about bringing people into their group until they've been checked out. I can't really fault them for it. "Cliquish elitism" would be them sneering at how "poorly" people who were honestly trying to RP did it, shunning RP newbies, and the like.

Depends on the quality of the hypothetical COH2. If they drop the ball on gameplay too badly and the system requirements go up too high, all they'd do is lose customers they could have kept had COH1 remained active. They'd still be losing some anyway. There are, I'd say, a good number of players that'd like to have both around if the gameplay is hugely different, and plenty who'd simply prefer the original no matter how good the changes to CoH2 were.

By some. By others, it was actually dreaded for that reason. Well, specifically because of one of those makers.

They may well shut the CoH1 servers down as they're bringing CoH2 online. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that happened, as I imagine it would cost quite a bit to keep both games running. Bigger studios might be able to pull it off, but I'm not sure NC/PS would be able to. I'm not sure what their situation is.
NC *IS* a big studio. Huge, in fact. Their success is more in the Asian market, granted, but it's still the same company. Lineage for a long time boasted player numbers that have only been beaten by WoW.
