People differ on opinions therefore not one persons opinion is right.
for me
As for balancing free form ATs in a computer controlled environment. That would be next to impossible. PnP RPGs have a living breathing GM who makes the decisions on whether Ubermax the Invincible was hit by a regular club or a club made from Titanium alloy with a genetic impact trigger that releases Anit-Ubermax Chemical #5 when striking all supers named Ubermax. The GM, in those cases makes sure that all the players have equal playtime in the game. At least, they should.
Computer controlled RPGs, on the other hand, have rigid rules they follow that apply to everyone, regardless of their builds, for every mission. Granted, a computer could be programmed to account for most every build imaginable and alter its approach for each build. However, that would require a lot of disk space and more programming hours that most companies would think are worth it. -
Quote:I play a great many characters that do not have Stamina. Not one of them lags a team, when I team, because he's out of Endurance. I rarely start a fight with full Endurance, especially when teamed. But then, I'm also not concerned with DPS, or ExpS either. I play to have fun. I can have fun without Stamina.I disagree. Of course the argument can be said you don't need Stamina. That's if you like running around waiting and watching a blue bar to fill up repeatedly. I always thought the point to playing a game was playing the game. Not staring at a screen watching bars fill up. My SS/Invuln tanker is terrible with endurance, and some of his attacks are even two slotted with end reducers, and that is with Stamina. The endurance management system is just a we bit overbearing and was even worse before Positron nerfed it and gave us an end bonus when CoV released. The system as it stands right now just isn't very comic book like or fitting for a role playing game. Oh and while I agree with you the changes to brawl are nice... they don't fit every concept. Not everyone in the comic book world fights in melee.
Stamina is not, in any way, necessary, except where play-style demands it. And, frankly, your play-style demands it. Its a good thing that not everyone plays like you though. -
Well, since I have Stamina on approximately 8 characters out of the 100+ I have, I can safely answer the question...
Quote:All of them. Most of the characters that I play that have Stamina are melee types where I wanted to have them be able to fight non-stop for an extreme amount of time. Most of my ranged characters tend to wait for their health to come back more than their Endurance. What, if any, defender combos would you consider running Fitness-less? -

Quote:Being able to fight every foe on a map without having to stop is a character concept. However, you have to make sacrifices in order to gain that ability. In some cases, it is still impossible. Depending on what foes are being fought.I am particularly displeased at the notion that people who take Stamina because they want to be able to maintain such a pace are somehow "undermining their character concept".
However, the choice of Stamina is also based on your play-style. Most other character concepts are not. But, the choice of Which AT to make your fire based character is. So, Stamina is a choice that is part concept and part play-style. also, one that I don't really need. So, I don't use it often.
As for how to play smarter, don't use all of your defensive toggles in fights where only one or two are needed. My /Dark scrapper doesn't use the energy toggles when she's fighting Tsoo very often because its not needed. -
I hate to say it, but you might try playing smarter and not just harder. I don't have to rest between every fight. I also don't have to start every fight with a full Endurance bar either.

HATE YOU GLOBAL WARMING!!!
Only in a red-neck sense.
Quote:Y'all is southern (lots of planets have a south) and is actually more grammatically correct than some teachers might want you to think. It's an abbreviated form of 'you all' and is properly used when you're talking to a group. Any time you hear someone use y'all to refer to one person, you can tell immediately that they're a northern poseur.
You got it right, so you get to claim honorary suthiner status. -
I would take the same powers I already take, since I don't use Stamina on the vast majority of my characters. Most of which are powers that go with the concept of the character.

Quote:I was going to say something along the lines of "Anyone can build a house. Whether you'd want to live in that house or not is another thing entirely." But, it seems that others have done a better job than I. Alas!Let me get this right, everyone so far here admits that anybody can write a story but not everybody can do one that is of the highest quality correct?
So in that regard, shouldnt it be easier than the others since not everybody can do the code needed for the other positions? Its all down to pure quality correct?
I know that really good stories are hard to come across with, but on a timescale basis alone, isnt it classed as "easier" than say . . . . implementing the invention system? Or testing out all the powers? Or changing the colours of a powerset?
That is what i mean by easier[though i kind of think im alone in this regard in thinking that
[
What I find interesting, is that I am not creative enough to actually invent code from scratch, but I do tend to be able to tweak it and make it better on occasion.
I was certainly baffled as to why, when the game as being created, the power colors were "baked" into the power animations rather than allow that to be changeable from the outset. Seemed logical to allow for adjustments that didn't require completely redoing every animation for a power just to change its color (or colour depending on where you're from). Of course, I guess it could have had something to do with processing times and other such stuff. I just tend to think modular. But, I'm weird like that. -
Quote:Don't know about you... Oh, wait. Judging from your post, you don't. So, I guess I do know about you. But, you're wrong. I like Kheldians. They were a brilliant business scheme, even though no one really likes khelds, because it kept people playing.
Now, if you had used "many people", or "A lot of people", then I wouldn't have had an issue with that statement. Just sayin'. -
To expand on this, the weapons you see on various characters for various power-sets are just costume options that have nothing to do with the animations for the power-sets they are related to. Take Spines, for example. You can change the look of the spines that are attached to the character, but you can't change what the thrown spines look like. Same goes for the Archery set and its arrows. The animations for those sets have a set emission point that all of the weapon costume parts correspond to. The Weaponless power-sets, like the Blaster's Energy Assault, also has a set emission point that would remain the same regardless of what costume part was attached to the hands.

Quote:In my own personal experience, I have noticed a trend in the ladder rating section to lead me to believe that it is somewhat accurate. I have been LJBF'd right after a You're-a-great-guy-and-any-girl-would-be-lucky-to-get-you-except-I-want-this-other-guy-more.Quote:Only if you want to be there. If you don't, you're screwed in a bad way. The ladder theory explains all.
I never saw a line forming for a "lucky girl" either. I always seem to be their second choice...even after they break up with choice number one and choose someone else. Odd.
I can only assume that it must be me and not them, since I seem to be the only common denominator in the equation. That would be the logical assumption anyway. Correct? -
I have a magical themed scrapper. Serenity Dark. She uses Dark magics to both protect herself and defeat the bad guys. Her sister, on the other hand, uses Dark magics to raise the dead and defeat the good guys.
Both are "Mages" to a degree, but their styles of combat are vastly different. -

Quote:You are correct. I wasn't thinking all that clearly this morning when I posted, or I would have made that distinction myself. It's not paid time at all. It's any previous time spent subscribed to the game. The source of the time (paid or free) has nothing to do with it.
My main point was, however, that it was elapsed time, and not prepaid/donated time that had not elapsed yet.
Don't count your chickens until they've laid the golden omelet. Or something like that. -
Quote:Technically, its not played-paid time. Its more like elapsed paid time. Just wanting to me more precise. And just for the heck of it, it goes off the time you've actually played. If you buy a 1 year sub tomorrow that doesn't mean you instantly get the next 12 month's worth of vet rewards. You'll need to wait the appropriate amount of time before the vet reward gets unlocked.

Quote:I remember, quite vividly, the Rularuu invasions...er...visitation in Issue 2. I hated those freakin eyeballs of doom. And the first thing that comes to mind when I saw that title...
I came into this game just about 3 years ago. I still absolutely love it.

I've been here since Sept. 5th 2004, and it doesn't seem like it was all that long ago that some of those issues were released. I remember grabbing a bowl of popcorn and watching the Council and 5th Column have a lively discussion in Talos Island. Where does the time go? -
On Guardian, I have Dark Anarchy (villain) and Serenity Dark (Hero). They're sisters. The Dark family are not your typical nice family. They practice dark rituals and sacrifice stuff, except for Kaylee (Serenity Dark). She uses her dark magics for good. So, Kaylin (Dark Anarchy) swore to "redeem" the Dark family name.

Quote:So that's why Agent Katze has those cherub wings.Yup, which is why I make one costume with without wings, or with tiny wings (depending on the character concept), and I'm thinking of going one step further and using the science pack size-scaling feature to shrink one of my huge winged characters for those tight cave missions.
...
Wait. She doesn't fly...
Well, not in the literal sense. She does move pretty darned fast, I will admit. -
All but one of my characters on Champion knows about the others. Everyone I have in The Bouquet of Roses knows each other as well as the members of the Villain group Roses gone Wild.

Quote:Maybe they should tax a villain everytime he/she/it robs a bank and throw more money at the schools. Or, just get rid of Westin Phipps.Fudd was probably aiming for Bwoad side of a Barn. After he was booted out of Arachnos, they immediately revised their curriculum and raised their admission standards. (Sadly, the Rogue Isle School District is not known for its academic excellence.)
