Quote:They didn't use it because the US Government already went there with the Wiki-leaks Task Force.(or whatever the acronym is; I only know that they refuse to use the obvious 'WTF'.)
Yes, someone in the Government either has a sense of humor, or more likely, is woefully out of touch with life in general. -
Quote:Back before CoV, I remember taking one of my 50s into Galaxy City and managed to slide a Hellion past Back Alley Brawler. That was cool. Haven't tried it since then. Been entertaining myself knocking arrogant CoT mages off of roofs.O man I used to do rocketman in AP with my fire/energy blaster. I'd always try to aim for the atlas platform, I got close one time but I never really was able to. LOL that was so awesome

Quote:That sounds l a lit like Northeastern Oklahoma. a lot of lakes around so it gets rather humid during the summer. And almost as hot as SoCal. Feels much worse because of the humidity though. I don't like the dry heat because it doesn't feel as hot and I get dehydrated. Then I get all dizzy and sick and all that. Miss a day of work while I rest and rehydrate.Hehe, I'll agree with you to a point.
Here in VA is somewhat chaotic....one week it will be freezing cold/snowing and then the next will be in the 50s/sunny.
The one or two months I usually 'hate' in VA is July and August because of all the humidity....ugh, some times it feels like your swimming in your own sweat just standing outside and/or in your car.
Quote:I posted my teasing "It's in the mid-70s here" post earlier in the thread in anticipation of just such a whiplash. Saturday afternoon, it was 76F when I got everything loaded in the truck. Right now, it's about 15F, and there are sheets of ice on the roads everywhere they haven't been ground away by the (understandably light, but undeniably idiotic) traffic.
It could certainly be worse, though--my sympathies to those laboring under truly frigid temps, and especially to those at risk of getting snowed in. Stay warm and safe. -
Quote:That is the kind of whiplash season change that I'm used to.My cousin lives in OK and Saturday posted a picture of her kids flying kites in shorts and today posted a photo of the two inches of snow/ice they just got. That kind of whiplash season change I couldn't take.
Was born in Ok, and lived there for near on 30 years.
I dislike the one season we have here in southern California.
Wait, to be fair to the locals that haven't lived anywhere else, There are 2 seasons in SoCal.
Summer, and that one week it rained in December where the temps got down to the lower 40s.
I much prefer Oklahoma's seasons. Winter, Tornado, Summer, lesser Tornado. -
I am thankful that I still have an income so I can continue to play this game.
I will be even more thankful if I can win the lottery so I wouldn't have to work to continue to play this game.
Of course, that means that I'd actually have to purchase a lottery ticket. -

Quote:Not every rock-star can cook a perfect meal every day.[*]The first time anyone (I think it was the Community Team, now that I think about it) asked me to, gasp!, AUTOGRAPH something. I thought I was a freaking rock star! (And then I went home and my dog had thrown up on the rug, the kids were fighting, and I burnt dinner so I disabused myself of that notion pretty darn quick.)
Dogs are there just to deflate our egos. -
Quote:Just yesterday, I tried to slot the 5th IO from Positron's Blast into Acid Mortar. I wasn't allowed to put it in there with the other 4 that have been slotted for a long time. THAT is Outragous. It's a travesty. It's probably going to make me burn a respec to take the other 4 out of Acid Mortar...eventually.Mastermind trap's set, acid mort can take targetted aoe set (Ragnarok chance for knockdown, for the win!). Just got my traps corruptor to 50 and.... Corruptor (and apparently defender) acid mort can only take ranged damage sets? For what's the same power?
Anyone know if this is a bug or a weird change they made and will have confirmed "working as intended" ?

Quote:Rolling dice in the real world I tend to get the dramatically appropriate die roll.Of course dice rolling in real life has also never been favorable for me so perhaps like gravity and contrary to Obi-Wan's claim there is such a thing as luck.
Whether that is a good or a bad die roll, is debatable.
What ever it is, it is dramatic. -
Quote:If I'm not mistaken, the post I had responded to was talking about the PCing of some of Mark Twain's books. This has nothing to do even with the post you're responding to, let anyone the thread.
You have no idea what you're talking about, and this isn't the place to discuss it anyway.
Quote:The story takes an entirely different turn if you know the whole thing. NewSouth Books is printing the alternate version so that students in schools which have banned Tom Sawyer/Huckleberry Finn (the altered edition contains both stories, and Tom Sawyer is edited in two spots, as well) may have the opportunity to study it.
It's not the publisher that's trying to be PC, the publisher is trying to get the book into schools that are being PC.
I do know what I am talking about. Whether you share the same opinion is totally up to you. Quite frankly, I don't care if you do or not.
But, you are probably correct that this, most likely, isn't the place to discuss it.
One out of three. -
Quote:My reply was going to be something similar to this. The answer to "Just how much can the RNG hate you?" is "How much hate is there."
Then every now and then the horrible thing will throw you a bone just to let you know who's the boss or to get your hopes up so it can smash them.
The RNG can have no limit to how much it hates you (or anyone for that matter) on any given day. -

Much like Unions and Affirmative Action.
They were helpful concepts, until taken too far. -
Quote:There was/is a handicapped person that plays that game and his ship is totally voice commanded, that includes steering. I didn't go quite that far myself though. Most games I do use mouse-n-keyboard, but I got a Xbox controller for Christmas this year and used it for a Certain Other game and it made that game A LOT easier and more fun to play. I know a while back I remember seeing something where a guy used a macro program, and Microsoft's voice recognition software to play STO. I think he still had to use WASD and all to control the ship, but he could say "fire all phasers" and the ship would start firing.
I did notice that I couldn't use the voice command software with CoH/V/P.
Of course, that could be (and most likely is) an ID10T error on my part. -

Patience is a virtue.
Not everyone is that virtuous.
Quote:One of the reasons current temp power jet packs embed themselves in the backs of Huge characters and hover off the backs of Female characters is that they're power effects no different from Fire Sword or Stone Fists. It's the same problem that weapons used to have back when they had to have only one look and size and location that fit all models and sizes. This is because power effects can't really interact with the costume system, so they HAVE to be a one-size-fits-all.
If jet packs are made into costume details and actually put on an attachment point, they should be able to follow the back of the character much more closely. David mentioned there being a technical issue with them, but never specified what it was. Whatever that issue is, it can't be that.
Just a guess though. -
Quote:One weakness I have found with pole-weapons is that if the opponent does manage to get in close enough, the pole-weapon user is at a serious disadvantage. The Pole-weapon tends to get in the way, more than keeping the opponent away.Considering i have done Bojitsu for 35 years and out of those 35 have done 20 years SCA Polearm fighting - I approve of this suggestion.
I would also add in a Parry similar to Broadsword as the range and threat of the polearm is also defense all its own
Each week we do what we call the 100 - you receive and give 100 blows and I did 400 received shots while defending with a polearm! So it is also a defense boost.
Granted, I haven't had the years of experience that you have had, but I have had some experience both using pole-weapons and fighting against them. -
Quote:The John Wayne Rooster Cogburn or the Jeff Bridges Rooster Cogburn? But Rooster Cogburn has an eyepatch in the Prime dimension, too...
(Granted, on the other eye, but I'm just sayin')
Granted, they both have an eye patch, but only one of them is from Earth Prime. The other one is from Earth remake. -

Quote:You can do the "right thing" and seriously dislike the-poster-boy-for-doing-the-"right thing".Fact 1 - I just read the history timeline on the CoH website that says Marcus Cole is Statesman
Fact 2 - I have two toons in the GR content which were both planned out to be Heroes when leaving
While leveling through Praetoria, I have come to dislike Marcus Cole. Even my Loyalist toon dislikes him. But with decision time fast approaching, how do I reconcile the fact that Marcus Cole (evil bad bad man!) is also Statesman (awesome Superhero)? I really don't want to be a villain, but unless I can pull some justification outta my tush, I'll be forced to do it.
Help me!
Personally, I don't think both halves of the Resistance are heroes. The Crusaders don't seem very heroic to me. The Wardens, on the other hand, do.
Same goes for the Power and Responsibility halves for the Loyalists. Do you uphold the government for personal power, or in an attempt to help the citizens?
The way I see it, The Resistance shows the extremes of the Hero/Villain scale. Wardens are Heroes, Crusaders are villains. The Loyalists are the gray area; Vigilantes and Rogues. That's just my personal opinion on the matter.
Now, as a loyalist, you could easily justify becoming a Hero. You'll uphold the laws of the government despite that guy that looks just like Emperor Cole being such a public figure for good.
In case you didn't know, many heroes don't really like Marcus Cole. Regardless of what dimension he comes from. He's too preachy and arrogant. -
Quote:I understand what you are saying. This isn't a guessing game. As if there was no experience of such things and this conundrum exists in a vacuum.
It has to do with the history of the way language is used.
People were never teased for being Mongolian, at least, not in my half century of experience.
They were, however, cruelly teased for being "Mongoloid" as that word was once used for Downs Syndrome. And those didn't actually have Downs Syndrome were taunted with that word as a substitute for 'retarded.'
I still think that anyone who wants to change a classic work of literature to be "less offensive" to people who are "sensitive" to certain words being used are idiots. Also, why I don't care for language filters all that much. Certain things, I can understand. But, to pander to everyone's wishes will lead to only 3 words being left uncensored. People need to grow a thicker skin and choose to not be offended at everything.
If I don't like the "language" being used in a book or a movie, then I won't read that book or watch that movie. That is why I only saw the first movie in the Blade trilogy.
yes, I have definite opinions about Political correctness. I'm sure you can tell which way they lean.
No, I am not saying that bullying, be it verbal, physical, or over the internet, is OK. It isn't. But, bullying won't stop until the bullied stands up to the bully, and says, "I choose to not be the victim. You can't offend me unless I choose to be offended."*
Now, I will bother you no more with my opinions on the matter and let you go back to enjoying your afternoon (or midnight, or morning) read.
