The statement was relative to cold. and it is accurate in that regard. It is also pretty accurate just in general too.
Once you take the 'good' powers that contribute to softcapping everyone you are left with:
pff
forebolt
deten field
repulsion field
repulsion bomb
force bubble
imo sleet > all those combined
[/ QUOTE ]
In my opinion, the powers in cold are easier to use because you just use them whenever they are recharged. They are useful in a generic situation. Once you are familiar with the set, you just throw your powers out to every mob group.
The powers in FF need some thought. For the powers that you listed, you don't keep on using them except for repulsion bomb. To be fair, powers like detention field and force bubble need the game to present a situation that necessitates the use of such powers. With the game biased towards killing faster and aggressive in nature, it's not a surprise that players think these powers are useless in general. (for example, there are few contents in this game that ask you to defend a room or an entrance against enemy assault, the assault has to be massive enough that killing them faster won't be sufficient.) -
I think it is more efficient to work on s/l defense, you can get high level of mitigation with both resistance and defense.
-
I don't think the speed of finishing a TF has much to do with the choice of FF or cold.
-
I guess it depends on the person's bidding habit. While 5 rare sets are expensive, it doesn't mean that the bidding needs to be generous for uncommon sets. I can imagine that if a person likes to low ball recipes, it can take quite a while to IO a character. I think there can be significant time and effort spent for some people. Sometimes, I hate to see the enhancements going to the black hole.
I think enhancements are meant to be permanent once slotted, maybe for thematic reasons or as a money sink. On top of this, it's not clear where to put so many enhancements under the current setup of the game. I think I'll put the suggestion to my wishlist. -
I can imagine that there will be teams put together to afk overnight in a mission.
-
Although the more options the merrier, you do need to stop at some point, not expanding powersets indefinitely. I believe power pools are supposed to supplement the primary and secondary power sets. So, power pools should be smaller than 9 powers, such that players cannot "specialize" in them. I think 4 powers in a pool is more or less right. I would welcome one or two new powers, as it has been done in other types of power pools.

Personally, I'd like to see a buff to Titan-Os and Hydra-Os so they're even worth touching, namely work like IOs so they can be used by 50s.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure about HO, but the Titan and Hydra ones can use some help. -
I would love to keep my enhancements after respec. There would be a lot of enhancements to be held somewhere though.
-
To the OP: maybe just a new player who leveled a bit too fast to know the game well.
[ QUOTE ]
You could have kindly told him "How about I do you one better, I'll give you the secret to a near endless supply of influence that requires minimal effort, no farming, and works while you aren't even playing the game!"
[/ QUOTE ]
But if you say that, then 300-400 mil shouldn't be a big deal, you should just give it right away. -
[ QUOTE ]
Which do *you* think is better? Which would you rather have on a team?
With 1 FF Defender, he can softcap the entire team's Defense.
However, Cold can provide very nice buffs, with slew of debuffs...
Hmmm...decisions decisions...
What are your thoughts?
[/ QUOTE ]
In general, I think cold has more useful utilities that you want to keep on spamming whenever they are recharged. So, I think cold is "better" in this sense. The main "issue" is the ice shield graphics.
FF has utilities that are situational, like detention field and force bubble. When they meet the right situation, they are really valuable. I find that I can soft cap my FF defender's defense without too much effort, and with nearly full status protection, FF defender is probably tougher. Compared to ice shield graphics, bubbles are very clean, I never have anyone yell at me for the graphics, and everybody loves the buff and be my hamster in a sphere.
Finally, if you have a concept in your mind for a themed toon, the choice between cold and FF should be more obvious. -

It's an invite that you solicited. If you want to consider it a "blind invite" then fine but at that point the phrase has zero meaning whatsoever given that you were literally asking for it in the first place. So the word "blind invite" not only loses all meaning in terms of the way we say it, but most importantly it loses all it's pejorative qualities and simply becomes a "solicited invite".
If you ask for an invite, any invite you get is not a "blind invite".
[/ QUOTE ]
I remembered that at one time, I wanted to find a boyfriend. Then my mom said that she could find her friend's son or something like that. I told her that I don't know them, it's like a blind date. Then she said that it's not a blind date since I asked for it. I said to myself..oh my... -

[ QUOTE ]
If you solicit an invite by setting your LFT flag to "Looking for..." then it's not a blind invite.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, it's still a blind invite...because you have no idea what kind of team/person it's coming from.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's kinda funny that there are a lot of search comments say no blind invite, pst first. But then the tells are like "hey, up for team," which doesn't contain any information at all. The incoming invite is as blind as before.
I think setting the looking-for-any flag maybe a bad idea sometimes. With the white circle up, blind invites are no longer blind. And all the farming requests comes even the search comment states no farming. -
Actually, if you read the the message inside the pop-up window, it tells you that somebody wants to invite you to a team. So, technically, you are "asked" to join through the pop-up window. I do think the "request" through the pop-up window is a cold message and the window maybe annoying if there are a lot of invites. So, I would appreciate a tell if possible.
But in reality, I might not want a tell sometimes. For example, a typical tell I get is "lft?" The tell is really not better than the sentence in the pop-up window, in fact I think it is worse. And then I have to reply "yes," and I have to click "accept" again in the pop-up window. For this situation, I'd rather have the person shove me a pop-up window to start with. lol -

You can also get the 35 and higher enhancements from the Midnighters and Cimerora, no mission required.
[/ QUOTE ]
You do need to do missions to access Midnighters' Club and Cimerora. You don't need to do missions to buy and sell to the stores there once you're inside. So, missions are required but in a different way. -
It would be nice for Steel Canyon and Talos shops to start stocking enhancements at a slightly lower level.
For the bricks, FF and PI contact stores, there are some history to them. Back in the old days, SO was the secret uber thing, and it was not supposed to be easily accessible. The intention is that it should take some effort to access the secret of the world and be uber. Now, nobody feel the same about SO anymore, so the contact missions seem a bit stupid. In fact, even the idea of having a secret contact handing out secret SO enhancements to heroes is a little stupid now. The game evolves, and nobody go back to revamp the old stuffs. But maybe it doesn't hurt to leave them there, it's just a couple missions. -

People who are interested in replayability are the sorts of people who would be against episodic content, really.
[/ QUOTE ]
hm...replayability just means that I won't get bored when I make a new character. Every time I make a new villain, I say to myself, it's Kalinda again. Dynamic content is actually a good solution, and I would love to have that, not against it, so the question is how.
The episodes that you talked about suffer the same problem as what I said in my previous post. What if a person misses an episode? If the player cannot play previous episodes, then it would be a broken story for him/her. Do you put all the previous episodes into Ouroboros? -
A good amount of story arcs may not be appropriate to be "thrown away." For example on the hero side, there are story arcs to introduce players to Circle of Thorns. At low levels, you can know what they are doing. Then at high levels, you will know where they come from. So, the intention of these story arcs is just to tell you what Circle of Thorns are. If you make them dynamic, that means you're not going to tell people what are Circle of Thorns anymore.
But I understand why you want dynamic content. Let's say I did the story arcs about Circle of Thorns. If I make a new toon, I probably want new things about Circle of Thorns instead of going through the same story arcs telling me the same thing all over again. So, I want dynamic content for replayability. But I'm pretty sure that there are people who want to go through the stories that I played.
Under the current system, you can shove "outdated" story arcs into Ouroboros. In the long term, it is gonna be messy. Let's say CoH story arcs were dynamic from the beginning, Ouroboros would have 5 years of story arcs. I would love dynamic content, but probably need some new thinking and new technology for a better execution of the idea. -

Looks good on paper, but would either be redraw hell, or a coding nightmare, either way seems like fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think so too (without the coding nightmare part, lol). If there are traps, I'm wondering if I need to kneel down. Maybe the setup/animation time is a problem too. But anyway, it's always good to be natural. -

can i borrow a few billion? lol j/k
but wow, the most i have combined with 36 alts on freedom server is prolly 50 mill lol

It's amazing that anyone could ever complain about not having gobs of inf in this game, more than they'll ever need. But the whiners will continue to whine while I enjoy my golden years, grumbling about the darn young'uns.
[/ QUOTE ]
You can regard those people as whiners, but they also illustrate what will happen if a player doesn't play the market. There is really a huge gap between your 16 billion and those so-called whiners. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yesterday, I tried the ITF with him for the first time. I died repeatedly against reds and purples. Is this typical for that powerset? I had much more trouble than I was expecting. We were unable to successfully complete and I think I want to run it again but I want to be prepared.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is typical. It is good that something in the game can challenge you, it is boring if you don't die.
As you know already, the s/l protection offered by WP is resistance. You can take tough to further increase that. The bosses and elite bosses can hit pretty hard, so your regen won't be fast enough to recover your health if you're tanking large spawns. Having tough is the best improvement you can make for the tf.
s/l defense won't really help you a lot because of the defense debuffs. However, defense does help you in taking the alpha and also in other general situations, just that it helps little in ITF. So, if you plan to IO your scrapper differently, focusing on s/l defense is not a bad investment. -
For force-field, repulsion bomb is pretty nice now. And I do find some uses for detention field. I don't use detention often, but some particular contents may have a use of it. The major change for my force-field defender throughout the years is that I used IO bonus to cap my defense, and it is pretty amazing.

[ QUOTE ]
i wouldnt say the market, but the whole io system and the ability to build your toon.
[/ QUOTE ]
The possibilities afforded by IOs in general kept me interested. The market just supplied the funds needed to realize those builds I dreamed up.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, the market provides a platform for players to exchange stuffs. Since the IO system contains so many items, it is impossible for individual players to acquire what they need. A system needs to be in place for players to hand out stuffs they don't need, in exchange for stuffs they want. I don't think the fundamental intention of the market is to make it a stock market to earn big money, although it can be used that way. -
I do, if there aren't already 10+ recipes available for sale. I let them sit there for weeks.
-
I seldom ask people to fill. I did that a couple times for a respec trial. I asked people to fill such that I could start. They were welcomed to stay though but they all quitted. lol I tried once for ITF. I wanted to do a "slow" ITF with my friend such that we could both know what the TF is really about. Again, they were welcomed to stay, but of coz, after they knew that it would be "slow," they all quitted again.
