    Two to go

    Grats, Zub.

I'm two DJ badges behind you, all with associated accolades (got lazy for DJs). So, 12 weeks here before I'm done. I think TopDoc has been seriously on the ball with his DJ counts, so watiing for him to chime in.
  2. Crap, thought this was at 10... Can't come this early tonight, sorry guys.

I know when I played WoW if I saw someone more than a couple lvls below me I would leave them alone... it just seems stupid and there was no challenge which is part of what makes a game fun.
The PVP zones (Recluse's Victory, Siren's Call, Warburg, Bloody Bay) are all level locked to represent a minimum level of entry, and a maximum level of performance. Take Bloody Bay: Mimimum level for entry is 15, and ALL players play at equivalent lvl of 25 (so, a lvl 50 going there is auto-exemplared to 25 for available powers and slots in the order he/she received it). In theory, it puts all players on an "even" playing field, preventing ganking of mega-high level players on lower level ones (like you commonly see in Aion).

In practice, not all classes/builds/enhancements are created equal, so you'll see the "normal" players getting trounced by meticulously planned, purpled-out PVP build players (who use the system rightfully in maximizing bonuses for added edges). Quick summary: If you want to hang in the PVP zones, you really should plan your secondary build to maximize your benefits for PVP combat.

I think that answers your question about high level ganking? If anyone else wants to chime in, fill in the blanks, contradict me, etc, go nuts.

    CoH backstory

Good concept, Seven. I have some aesthetic comments about writing mechanics I can send you as a separate PM if you like.

You know, it occurs to me that websites like City Info Terminal or Badge Hunter give us a great place to store our toon info in general... it'd be like VirtueVerse, the server-based wiki site, just more plug and play for the general populace. You might wanna look into CIT for setting up your toon info for public consumption, instead of Google Docs.

For instance, here's Doc Turg's profile. I didn't even tweak it, this is all what HeroStats pulls automagically from COH when it's running.

Why do I get a feeling there's a batch of stressed out mission writers in a dark windowless room with LCD glows everywhere and an odd smell akin to wet cabbage who are now being told "SEE?? I just got a hundred story arcs from guys 'n' gals who just want a gold star on their forehead! NOW BACK TA WORK OR THOU SHALT FEEL MY WHIP!"

Check your PMs, Samu. My breakdown's there. Sloppy, I was shorthanding it for times' sakes, but sensible if you don't mind the absence of verbs.

Sorry for slacking, it's been a busy few days... okay, here's my compilation in order of priority:

<V> Supreme Soviet: King Maker, Steel Worker, Talon of Talos, Gate Crasher

<H> Blackest Light: All safeguard maps

<V> King Legbah: Global Threat, Road Raged, Steel Worker, Talon of Talos, Brickhouse (non-priority toon)

I have other toons, but those are the ones I care about for this. I'm coming into this late in the game, so regrettably I don't have any safeguard/mayhems parked anywhere (most of my toons are 40+ anyway...). =/

Oh, man up, Buttercup. I said "one of you blows at PvP." You had 50% chance of being not it.

But feel free to focus on that phrase, and ignore the paragraph I wrote at you where I express my disagreement.

    Character Bios

    1. I'd estimate that 90% of my toons have bios. Those who don't were concept toons I built for looks, and leveled up when opportune, but never "connected" with me.

    2. Some I write at creation. Most are done before lvl 10 if I'm playing them often. I usually have a clear idea of what a toon's "personality" and backstory is when I skin them up in the costume creator (I mean, how can you dress them if you don't know their tastes?). Sometimes I know the bio I want, but haven't committed to writing it 'til I had it "right" after a few play sessions.

    3. I can't honestly say I've deleted a toon that had a bio, except for one kinetics defender back in mid 2004, "Fafnir". Nice bio, ugly costume. Got him to 12 before I tossed him in favor of other character designs.

Extra credit: I've seen that text field bug too. I wish they'd fix that one day. It's been hoppy for years.

Okay, now as all of you know, in the 60 month vet reward you are given the ability to pick a travel power at level 6, with no prerequisite. This is a wonderful idea, generally, but the fact that you have to be subscribed for 5 years to achieve it is a little overwhelming (especially since I started a new account with a friend..).

I understand that vets have been asking for better rewards for being around so long instead of costume tokens, and what not, but my suggestion is this:

Allow people to purchase the travel power portion of the 60 month vet reward as a booster pack. There doesn't even have to have anything else in it, and to me it doesn't really make it "un-special" for the vets since they still dont have to pay for it.

The reason I ask is because often pvp builds are tight, and to have someone have even a single power advantage over you is a little much (considering the state of PvP right now, anyways). Believe it or not, some people might want the speed pool for JUST superspeed, and the same goes with flight and teleport.

Any feedback is welcome, as long as you keep an open mind and don't immediately shoot me down just because you have 60 months on your account.

    Also:
The ninja booster pack is NOT the solution. Please don't come to me telling me that it is, because quite honestly its not.
    A) You cannot slot ninja run. That in itself is just bad news.
    B) Ninja run isn't as fast as superspeed, and doesn't jump as high as superjump.
    C) I personally don't want to run like a ninja on ALL of my characters.. especially considering I think the ninja run animation is ugly.
No. Veteran Rewards are exactly that: Vet rewards. They are incidental "benefits" to reward the long term player, and are unique amongst the other incidental benefits you can grind/earn throughout the game. Start with one power, and then ten thousand arguments will come for every other vet reward that people want without having to earn it via subscription length, and the reward becomes moot. So, better to say "no".

And if you need that travel power to be competitive with a vet, then one of you really blows in PvP.

Same here. I was all done and relaxed last night when it occurred to me to read the official rules post... Aeon should include those criticals in his main email, or state "for all the details on how to frame your submission, go to XYZ link" to keep panicky people like us calm.

  19. I think I'm in, but toon TBA later today. Thanks for hosting this, E.
  20. Sign me up, I think. I'm done with Architect for now.

Toon TBA, but might be my BS/shield scrapper, Ultima Ratio Regum. I'll confirm later today.

  22. Just saw this: I want to sign up, but will need to see if/where I have missions available. More to come later this afternoon. I have a villain or two that need some mayhems; maybe one hero for the safeguards, but the real priority for me is Supreme Soviet, all others are just icing on the cake.

I'll let you know what I'm able to plumb up and will post.

    I'll be blunt.

It's not a "veteran reward" because your option morphs it into a "reward for veterans and everyone else if they want to grind/pay for it".

These items were dropped in for veteran significance. If you create an option where they can be had by other methods, they cease to have value as a "veteran reward", and the whole thing becomes an RTM or grindfest.

Keep the vet rewards as "vet rewards" that EVERYONE will get in time. There are plenty of other RTM and grind rewards for those purposes. If you argue that Vet Rewards should be available to everyone, then also push for the argument that vets should get all the other rewards that people are grinding on.

If you support THAT, I'll back you 100%, because you're being fair to all sides. Otherwise, the Status Quo(tm) is perfect as-is.
