Quote:Aion's weather IS very nice. Who knows? It'd be nice when, during Rhode Island winter, there's two feet of snow everywhere and you have emergency snow removal TFs in Paragon City.Guess it's time for an upgrade then! :P
There are a lot of things I like about this issue. With the changes they are making to the UI, it makes me wonder if they will eventually add weather to the game like they did in Aion. -

Quote:This, basically. Old-school clans have hosted Vent/TS servers for ages now because the VoIP solutions out there hadn't really materialized until recently as a viable alternative to a client/server setup. IRON's had a TS server for upwards of a decade now (TS2, TS3 doesn't really appeal to us ATM), but Skype's ability to group chat is a huge benefit, as it doesn't require a hosted server solution. It's also crystal-clear.I am not really one for voice chat that much, but the ones I know are used the most by some of the people here are: TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, Skype, and GTalk. Usually it's an SG that hosts a server for one of those programs, but the usage is not always restricted to members only.

Good times, KK. I'll read this while I take some lunch here.

I think I need to flex my hero muscles, it's been a while. I'll respond with details later this morning. Thanks for running these, E. As usual.

This is Texas! I was wearing shorts yesterday!
NYC got shillelaghed tho. 18-24" depending on where in the five boroughs you live. My hat's off to them, I have at least one friend w/o power for a day now. At least my mom's got power and heat. =/ -

Quote:Repeat Offenders is a global organizational channel for the cross-server SG of the same name. I still see their members post, and see a few on my global list that are die-hards, so I'm assuming that chan's valid still (you tell me, I'm not on it.What are some of the common channels on Freedom now? I'm on Repeat Offenders and Freedombadge right now, though not many on. Are those still popular channels?
)
You can also refer to this master list of Freedom-oriented global channels. These are public-access channels meant for server-specific conversation.
Hope the list helps, and welcome back to Freedom. -

Here we go again. About 6 inches this time, but it's a wet snow making for ice last night and this morning, plus 40-50mph winds for total whiteouts (I lol'd when I looked out the window and saw nothing for about five seconds...).
Expecting the power to go out again today, but I have 3 thermoses of hot water this time, totallying about 9 liters. Turg an' Tina will be able to have COFFEE during this blackout, by golly. -

Sorry I haven't been around, things have been stupid here since last Friday (25 inches of snow, no power for a few days, and now the next storm with 10-20 inches is bearing down on us today).
Just wanted to say hi, and hope the mid-Atlantic peeps on Freedom are doing okay. E-Man's been without power for 4 days now at this rate, yeah? -

Quote:Actually, I thought my last post was milder in tone. Hm. =/
First off, you're acting way more hostile than this needs to be.
Quote:I don't want to get too off topic with the Chosen One badge, especially since I can tell I hit a nerve. But when people compete for Bug Hunter it does nothing but benefit the community since we cannot create bugs ourselves.
Quote:I DO realize that the Chosen One was rewarded by red names, however that still caused people to downvote and troll. Having the badge aspect in the game did more harm than good simple as that.
Quote:People who have dev choice story arcs STILL HAVE DEV CHOICE STORY ARCS. A badge connected to it is just one aspect that DID cause people to act poorly. I'm not saying it was possibly exploitable, the stuff DID happen.
Quote:You're acting as though the "vocal masses" are just people whining when in reality it was causing problems. Simple as that.
Quote:And I am also aware of Positron explaining that the reason why Chosen One was taken away was to keep it fair so everyone could get the badges. I don't fully agree with that logic since the badge was obtainable if you tried hard enough (Not just writing the arc but being creative and proper advertising helped get the dev choice. You just had to have your heart in it).
Quote:Still, however, I go back to the fact that it was only the badge that was taken away. Probably the least important perk of getting a dev choice.
Quote:The badge itself shouldn't be the primary goal of getting a dev's choice. True it may have helped its goal, it caused more problems. Not potential problems, but actual problems that were going on.
I'm leading you somewhere with this, believe me. More to come tomorrow. -
Arcs by genre. This thread differs to the CoHmatoes thread as it links to authors' information (sometimes posters!) instead of reviews. A
Note: I cleaned up some of the formatting and deleted any obviously broken URL tags for the sake of readability. I could not figure out how to fix the bullet color-coding.
2nd Note: I've had some problems when displaying this page while having the "Number of Posts to Show Per Page" set to a high number (in my case, 100 posts per page). This causes a programming error on the forum, leading to non-display due to the large amount of text in the posts. Drop your limit down to 20 posts to work around the issue. -Turg
Bullets colored for heroic/neutral/villainous. Non-existent arcs removed. Lists alphabetized. Arc IDs updated.

Quoting Astrolynx.
Quote:You don't understand how the Dev Choice mechanic works, do you?Chosen One essentially turned the AE into a contest where a lot of people did whatever it took to get a dev choice. This lead to people downvoting everyone else and forming special groups with codes to automatically 5 votes people with certain tags in their titles.
Quote:Don't get me wrong, I do think getting a dev's choice is worth recognition, but I don't think a badge should go along with it.
Why was Chosen One such a threat, when Bug Hunter has been in place for so long, and remains in place today?
Now, whether or not having an arc flagged as "Dev Choice" is worth a badge is something that can be argued. However, it's frustrating to note that Bug Hunter is still out there, whereas Chosen One is not. That's an incongruity that needs to be rectified, in either direction.
Quote:It caused enough strife for the devs to see fit to give it the axe.
Let's go with Empath. How is Empath "fair" when it's picked up by a scrapper after a few days in a heal farm? Or a controller picking up the damage badges after two weeks in a Rikti boss farm?
Quote:Its original goal was to give motivation to publish a very well built arc, but instead of making the AE a fun place it just brought the worst out of people.
So who was better served here? The masses who took something away from people who earned it? Or the players who took pride in earning it for creating something for the playerbase, then had it taken away by that same playerbase?
Quote:Seeing as how the problem was virtually fixed when the badge aspect was removed is good enough reason for me to prove its negative effects.
Review the history behind the Chosen One badge nerf, and restate your case at your leisure.
Imma gonna bed. -
Quoting Snow Globe here.
Quote:I hope he doesn't. In my opinion, I think it's the wrong path to go....it would be acceptable for the developers to change these badges from character->global. Just like Positron said they were looking into.
Quote:Actually the way I read it, Astrolynx just wants a placeholder (like vet reward placeholders) to be able to copy that badge to their other characters. This would keep the badges to those that did log in during those periods. Quote:Yes, by design it is for each character specifically. However it is for out of game actions and reasons, so they should logically be in their own category. As repeatedly suggested, this should be an account category. Veteran Rewards and certain other badges should be moved to the same category.
Quote:As to the change from character to global, given Positron's statements in the last year, if the developers can see the reasons to change these badges from their current state then needing to prove "why" is somewhat moot.
An "Anniversary" badge is a metric to show the character itself was there for a given time period. That's FACT. This whole conversation started because I stated FACT to the OP, and Astrolynx took it as an opportunity to start an argument.
So here I am. Argue away. It won't change the fact until Positron buckles under and blatantly changes half a decade of badge behavior to satisfy the have-nots. -
-
Quote:I don't want to "restrict" anything. I want badges to retain the meaning they had when they were rolled out (barring badges whose values were an "oops" instead of actual intent: Namely, Empath). We keep nerfing badges to the lowest common denominator. If we do this for players who have it on other toons, then the people who don't have it on other toons will whine louder, state it's not fair, ask why we're trying to keep it from them, yadda yadda yadda. The cycle begins again, and the design is modified, yet again, and the value is watered down - yet again.I really don't know why you would want to restrict the badge from people who could have legitimately gotten it. I mean I can understand if it was actually hard to get and people would want the badge to show off that they achieved something. But this set of badges is for just logging in a character.
I do agree that if you didn't have an account for the anniversaries then there shouldn't be a way to get them. But if you have characters with the badge then you could have logged in and got them just as easy with other characters who didn't exist at the time.
So to just try to restrict it like that makes it come off like you don't want people to have the badges so that you can have a leg up on them if you do have them. And seeing as how you yourself DO have them, welllllll.....
It doesn't end, until we man up and cope with the fact of, "BY DESIGN, it's meant for characters who were there for an anniversary." And that's it. Pleading for a badge that your toon couldn't have earned because they didn't login during that period is simply that: Pleading.
So, I'm for UPHOLDING the design of badges, as they are. That's not restricting you. That's just making you face the truth.
As for your commentary of "you have them, so what do you care, hmmm": I'm for logical design. Show me a framework that fits the badge as it is, and pitch it sensibly. I'll argue it logically. Your argument here is "it's just a badge for logging in". You want it to be something "other" than that. I argue for the status quo.
It's THAT simple.
