I can't help but laugh at those that only have characters on freedom. There are benefits to playing on 2 or 3 different servers regularly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny, except for the 2xXP weekends, we laugh at people who're everywhere except Freedom cuz of all the "tumbleweed" complaints I hear about your 2 or 3 different servers.
What's your home server, Turbo? I'll ask Lighthouse to designate that the official PL server of CoX, so all the farmers can move there and boost your population. I mean, you have 2 or 3 others, so it's all hunky dory, right? -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm kind of baffled why anyone that doesn't play on Freedom normally even has an opinion on this?
Not locked out of your toons? Good for you. Go play them.
I'm in agreement with the "let them run laggy if they have to" side of things. And yes, if they servers crash, then let them. Maybe the inf farmers and other "just started and/or transferred to Freedom this week" would go somewhere else.
My biggest wish for the Double XP and new Issue releases? For the love of all that is holy, STOP ADVERSTISING IT TO PEOPLE THAT DON'T PLAY ANYMORE. Wait a few weeks after a new issue. Don't tell them about double xp. Do people honestly think that the majority of these new players will be here next weekend? They won't. They'll be heading back to WoW or some other game and wait for the next double XP weekend. It's pathetic that they cater to these losers that do nothing to support this game.
I'm starting to think that they should prioritize login rights for by registration date and how current your subscription is. Oh, been playing for 36 months nonstop? Come right in, and thank your for your patronage. Started playing in 2005 but haven't logged in for 8 months? Well, we'll put you in a queue until things free up a bit.
I'm sorry, but "play on another server" holds no water. My SG, base, and friends are here. I don't want to start over somewhere else. I don't want to level up a level 1 toon when I want to play my lvl 41 TA/A defender that is a pain to level.
Go back to your low population server and play how you want. Until you get locked out of your home server, please just go away.

If server transfers FROM Freedom were free, who would go?
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe transfers FROM Freedom should be decided by popular vote?
[/ QUOTE ]
i wish we could vote off all those korean farmers, nobody wants them here
[/ QUOTE ]
And how many thousand of them do you think there are on that one particular server?
[/ QUOTE ]
Take each farmer and multiply that by 8 to see the problems they cause on one particular server. It's not just the farmers, it's their customers jonesing for the PL. Factor ALL of those people in, and yeah, I'd prolly place the headcount around 750-1500. -
[ QUOTE ]
Do people really believe that several thousand people paid $10 per toon to transfer to Freedom and that all of them are currently playing right now filling up the expanded server capacity?
Yeah, blame server transfers.
The NSCoft rep has told you all what has happened: In previous 2xXP weekends, Freedom had hit a game engine cap. The server ground down, people were being disconnected, and others stopped playing because they couldn't endure the lag and rubberbanding. When such things happen, the server itself crashes and everyone is kicked off. Those who were dedicated enough logged back on, the rest stopped playing in disgust. That's how the game used to be capped.
Now, the engine can handle more people. And rather than stressing the engine and ruining everyone's experience and letting the grinding down and disconnects and disgust and crash cap the population, they are capping the population before service degenerates that badly.
If they didn't do this, you would still be able to log on to a lagfest that would eventually boot you anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
1. I don't believe anyone here really thinks it's everyone transferring a toon to Freedom that's locking us out.
2. I DO believe that most of us feel it's alt-server players getting a toon PL'd here that's locking the natives out.
3. If the engine can handle more people, then let it. LET it get to that point where the lag and rubberbanding starts affecting everyone, because then it's affecting EVERYONE HERE, instead of locking out longtime players who just had the misfortune of having to come home from work and have dinner before logging in to find the place locked, and all the PL maps being maxed out.
Eventual Lagfest = most egalitarian way of spreading the pain around, instead of rewarding the seeded farmers and penalizing the regular players.
Repeating what Lighthouse originally said doesn't make us buy it any more than the first time, Zombie. Heck, he came around and said "hokay, it's unlocked now" to address the outcry of the native population. That was, I think, the most appropriate response in this situation. -

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
This might seem unfair to other servers but have you guys considered letting characters transfer from Freedom to the other servers for free or at least for a reduced price?
[/ QUOTE ]
That WAS one of the discussed avenues when they were drawing up the plans for server transfers, DD. It was decided, correctly I think, to permit transfers to any/all servers for a small fee as it was the fairest approach to the process.
At least this way, hey, we're stress testing the servers now for a seriously solid shakedown. And we're not locking out players unfairly in comparison to other servers; at least we're all on the same playing field now.
Time for sleep. Whatta roller coaster... -

Poor Turg

I'm good now, kiddo, but thanks for the concern. I'm just gonna park Turg in the IRON base and set him and my alt thinking at each other while I sleep.
I wonder what they'll come up with while I'm gone. -

[ QUOTE ]
know how you solve it? Take the last 500 peeps who joined the server with new toons and move them to another, after that do it again if you have to. I been here since inception on the same server so is unfair that i get screwed.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know that those people forcibly moved would be very happy about that solution either.
Folks, the bottom line is that we've accommodated more people playing than we ever have before. In the last Double XP, the server would lag out and simply drop you or people would log in disgust over a poor play experience. The gameplay experience is significantly improved over that and with significantly more people playing.
Yes, server transfers are something we will be looking at. However, they are there so people can play where they want to play. We don't want to force someone to not be able to play with their friends. While it is certainly less than optimal to resort to a server cap for a few peak hours on a double XP weekend, we feel that allowing people to move where they want for 99.9% of the rest of the time is a very nice feature.
Ultimately, we will continue to review how the service is run and make the choices we feel will benefit our customers as best as possible. Hopefully more of you will agree than not. Again, our thanks for your continued patronage and support.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think my biggest problem here is that there was a decision to "lower" the population count for Freedom and Virtue, in comparison to the other servers, in order to preserve good gameplay. Why put up an arbitrary limit if you're just going to swirl it down willy nilly? Either the server structure handles the traffic, or it doesn't. People can still log in, see "hey, this is laggy", and they have the "choice" of leaving for other servers, or just sticking it out.
I think relaxing that restriction was the "win all" solution, even if there's some suffering for local lag concerns. Heck, we're here to test your server build.Especially with the "PL" zones being the areas maxed out, the natives here being locked out in lieu of those schmoes is what hurts the perception of the native the most.
Thanks for kickin' the cap and letting us get in, even if it's chunky. And thanks for taking the time to answer our concerns, LH. -

3 PI zones.
3 RWZ zones.
And suddenly, from across the world, hundreds of peasant players from Jangyin province erupt in a tittering "ke ke ke ke ke" at the treasure trove before them. -

I posted this in another thread, but am going to cross-post here...
We've been monitoring the performance of all servers throughout the day and early evening, and based upon recent data from Freedom, we're going to throttle down the maximum number of players that will be able to access the Freedom and Virtue servers for the remainder of the weekend.
Players will not get kicked off the server while we make this adjustment. However, if you log off, you may not be able to log back into the server (i.e. it will appear grayed out on the Server Selection screen).
This was done to ensure that performance was optimal for all players on the server.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
To better address performance issues that tend to arise under such conditions, we are investing in server hardware upgrades. Technology is always marching forward and we are making this investment back into the game to take advantage of the latest tech and help create the best gaming experience possible for our players.

Here's the nuts and bolts of it. From MY skewed perspective, you've locked me outta my freakin' house. And NO, I'm not goin' to lol Protector, because my arrival there would double the freakin' population.
I've been a Freedomite since the headstart in 2004, and you're LOWERING the population limit for Freedom so, what, people can farm smoother? Open the door, and let us take the instability for what it is - high population! At least THAT way you're not KEEPING OUT THE NATIVES! -
Oh, and Council/5th column computers. Their monitor banks are pimpin'.

Not an item, but an effect:
1. Disco lights, for throwing lightbeams all over the place, like in Pocket D.
2. Rooms with custom sounds to them. Again, like the trance tunes of Pocket D, or low hums of engine work, conversation sounds, etc.
3. This would be an item: Statuaries. A bonus would be to have a personal base item of a statue of yourself, with a costume type of your choice. Wear the costume in question when you craft the item, and it'll take that model and make a granite version of it that you could place. Nice as memorials for players for X reason. -
1. Gorgeous avatar, Athy.
2. Agreed: Stickify this as a forum reference. -

Grew up in Astoria, Queens, so I'm pretty familiar with Sunnyside.
Although I always went to Forbidden Planet on 59th Street...
I'm in DC, and I'm saving my travel time for the get-together on 11/17 at J&H's (my idea, that place!), but I wish you guys all the best. Have fun, take lotsa pics for blackmailing! -

The broken CoP and IoP system is an utter EMBARRASSMENT for Cryptic. There is nothing more pathetic than an advertised feature that is still non existent 2 years since people paid for it.
[/ QUOTE ]
While I agree on the patheticality, no one "paid" for this feature. They pay for access to the game, which has not been interrupted. Having a certain feature (flashback, CoP, IoP, server transfers, etc) is up to the Developer discretion.
Just trying to smart-up your line of argument. Carry on. -

Athy, it's the series of longs and shorts at the top of the first page. Here's the quote of the original:

So, Editors: Pony up. You drop in a Morse Code message at the top; change some of the symbols to red for some reason; and either intentionally botch the paste, or need to learn some CTRL-V skillz cuz the original version is kinda odd. What gives?
Yeah, yeah, "how did that get there", okay, Arctic Sun lives, oooooh, ghosts in the GUI telling me to kill my neighbor, now I got bad fortune cookie messages in the newspaper. What's next, Turg's next contact is a Teddy Ruxpin telling me "to achieve Nirvana, you must kill everyone in Uruguay"?
...hey, Uruguay's in South America, and so is that 5th Column base that Recluse raided... coincidence? I think NOT!
