  1. Mateo: Not a spoiler really, like I said, it's just more insight on how I shorthand stuff. Maybe I should do intentional easter eggs in my arcs?

Update: I'm kinda concerned about a bunch of comments I got yesterday on the first boss (mish 1, at the end) being too hard (causing the players to walk away). I got about 5 of them yesterday, but nothing else was mentioned at all last week (mostly it's about the Lieutenants).

I haven't played it yet to confirm, but anyone have opinions with their boss fight on the first map? I tested with 3 different toons (controller, blaster, scrapper), and I did fine each time, but I was also on Heroic to Unyielding at the time.

Lemme know, I have an update finalized excepting this bit, more feedback would be good.
  2. Touche, mon ami.

...I'll need someone to do the girl voices tho. What about Traegus? He sounded kinda girly when we met.

    *ducks and runs*
  3. [ QUOTE ]
I'd love to. Every group I get together for it on Virtue bails when they find out they wont have all their powers so I haven't had a chance to run it yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heh. Those Virtue whineypants need to grow a pair and just get through the first two missions. The arc's geared to 50s, but the first two environments are "virtual". It's not like the missions are HARD, geez. :P

BTW: I'd really recommend my arc for lvl 50s in a solo environment (since a lot of the "mish complete" text isn't available to all players unless they're the mission holder - a thoughtful team leader will copy/paste it in team chat though).
  4. Just getting this back on track to the right subject line - I figured you'd be using subjects to advert your arcs, but everyone seems to be replying to mine... without changing it...

While I love the advertisement, I feel bad. So, fixing the subject name as of now! Back to Champion advertising!

Lastly: Yes, the Sys.Defs are supposed to have numbers for names. Those are hexidecimal iterations of a number string I chose. You could try taking the #'s into hex and converting it to decimal, but it's not much of a spoiler.

    [/ QUOTE ] I actually converted them, and LoL'd.

[/ QUOTE ]How sharing with us who have no idea what you are talking about?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Gin'zago is Dani's father.

...oh, wait, that's not right. No, seriously, converting the hex just gives you "1111111111111111" for the minion name, "22222 etc" for the Lt, and "33333 etc" for the boss. I was horribly tired the night I named the Sys.Defs. There. Spoiler revealed. I TOLD you it wasn't much, just a funny peek at how my mind works.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Boy, that was a pretty good arc.

I burn with seething jealousy. Is there a cream for that?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, there's a name I haven't seen in a bit. Heya Luc. Glad you dug it!

Yer mish is OBVIOUSLY good enuff fer the devs, that makes it more then good enuff fer the unclean masses.

[/ QUOTE ]Wow, I can't imagine how this attitude could be bad.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You don't know J. The man is a walking, absestos-eating flame thread with a mouth the size of the Mt. St. Helens caldera. Take it in stride. He's got a heart of gold, but man, he takes the skill of forum aggro to Incarnate level. XD
  8. Okay. I'm picking this comment out from a particular user (Knight_Equitable) because I feel it brings up a big "design challenge" in the arc and custom mobs. Posting with permission, of course.

    [ QUOTE ]
Just ran your arc with a lv 50 wp/ss tank, i liked it a lot, only one thing that i found frustrating was when on the timed mish she fights when escorting back, i think running with a full team on invc that might be hard to complete. ambushes and bosses where no problem for me. also are the one villian type suppose to have numbers for names, i might of missed that in the reading. over all very good going to run it later on invc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

First, thanks for taking the time to msg me.

About that timed mish: Well, my "stress test" with that was running it on Invinc with a team of 6, and we did fairly well; the trick from what I'm reading on all the comments thus far (and I log all the msgs I get for review) is that people will see the timer, think "oh [censored]!", and run to the end to save her... which to a degree is the response I want. I want you to react, not act, even through the best recipe for success is thinking before acting.

I wanted that mission to be tough; frantic; with a high possibility of failure. That mission, I felt, accomplished it; but yeah, the biggest headache on that are the mobs themselves.

I think a change in balance for that Sys.Def group is what's called for, from what I've read. I've gone through all the comments people have offered (yes, I log them all to text file for review, and YES, it's a really frickin' text log... XD), and the most common complaint I've heard is from melee builds in combating the Sys.Def Lieutenant class. Right now, I've got this:

    Minion: Nrg/nrg blaster
    Lt: Illusion/FF
    Boss: Nrg/Nrg brute

...and what's KILLING everyone are the Lt's when they throw down Spectral Terrors (and the live version has the weakest version I can give, and it still has ST) and when they stack their defense bubbles, it potentially makes the Sys.Defs near unhittable.

Some builds can manage this w/o issue, particularly controllers who can do ranged mezzings - then the mish becomes relatively easy. Melee builds? The tough-o-meter goes up considerably, especially with stacked Spectral Terrors. In a small hallway. With mobs who are otherwise very capable of smearing you on the tiles on their own, without their angry Lt. sister looking over their shoulder.

    You get the drift.

What I intend to do is swap the Lt's and Bosses, to put the really nasty bits on the top level of the spawn chain, so, if you're on a full team, on Invinc, THEN they'll come out to play, but not in large quantities. Right now, even on a 6-team invinc, you risk getting 5 or 6 Spectral Terrors stacked.

...hysterical in hindsight, but I think I gave more than a few melee types a heart attack with that one.

After some similar commentaries during Test, I'd begun to rebalance the Sys.Def crew to match my suggestion above. I was going to republish it, but then the arc got locked for the Live migration. So, rest assured, this will be mollified a bit on a later version!

Lastly: Yes, the Sys.Defs are supposed to have numbers for names. Those are hexidecimal iterations of a number string I chose. You could try taking the #'s into hex and converting it to decimal, but it's not much of a spoiler.

There is no souvenier. An' now ya can't edit it!!
    OH KNOEZ!!

Well it doesn't matter, 'cause witout a souvengier I've already fergottena bout ol' Dana.

    ...

Dude. There's totally a souvenir. WTH are you smoking?

I'd go in and CHECK, but someone brought the servers down an hour early... ;( Seriously though, it's under Architect Souvenir as "Sunglare's HeroID" I think. Huge block of text too. It BETTER have carried off, cuz that's where most of my fricking writing went.
  10. Weazy here's been doing my artwork (for fan fics, signature banners, wallpapers) for geez, five years now. I've never met a faster and more accomplished artist. I'm giving him the project of my "save the date" reminders if that means something to people.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm writing it as we speak....

I intend for it to start stupidly, as a silly game you picked which quickly get very serious.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, make sure to hit me up on that, I'm curious now.

There has been only 2 story arcs in this game that have gotten me emotionally involved. That is the Terra story arc on heros, an' the arc in villains that has you being played by both the mooks and the family.

    Now there is three.

You pulled off the sense of me feeling like a hero in the story arc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Commenting on this in particular:

J, you're one of the most insane, twisted, fricked-up-in-da-head mooks I've ever rumbled with, either on the forums or in the game. Seeing you walk into a forum thread with a comment is always prefixed with "Oh boy, someone's bakin' a poopcake of a post". In the game, I resign myself to directing all my efforts to staying alive cuz you're one of the most aggrolicious tanks on the hemisphere.

Hearing what you just said above lets me know, "Damn, I did it."

Thanks for the high compliment, bro, from the bottom of my heart.

But I gotta ask ... what if I'm a chick?

[/ QUOTE ] Then it's an "Giggity!" moment.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    *cue up the Barry Whites*

I wrote Sunglare/Mizel to be bisexual, so the attraction isn't limited strictly to gender. NO, you won't be bazoinking in arc 3.

(...although if I could get Sister Psyche from the ITF in a test mish, well, I might make a one-off for private play. XD)

This might be a good time to ask: Any females care to comment on how I played her off? Handled well? Clumsy?

Re: "Those annoying Lieutenants". That's probably the biggest comment I get on this arc. I've scaled then down as much as I can, I swear - but on the updated version (where I correct a few grammaticals and tighten up a few things), I'll switch the Lt's to Bosses, and vice versa.

Solowise, some people have no problems with them; others get frustrated. I hear all of you on it (I've been logging comments for review!), and I promise that a tweak-up to address that one big concern is in play.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
If I'm not mistaken, once you're on a team, you can see the mish details and dialog if you click on the little 'i' just left of the mish name in your nav compass.... at least, I think it shows all of the dialog and such that you're talking about.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Heya,

You see "some" of the dialogue, unfortunately, and not all. For instance, the mission closing text for a success or fail, which is what I'm using to cram in the conversational style with the main protagonist.

The "I" on the mission compass, or the "more" button on the Missions list, will get you the Mission Offer and the Mission Accept, but yeah, it's not complete. That's why I'm selling this as a primarily solo arc, for story purposes.

What IS nice, however, is that you CAN cut and paste from the mission success/fail window and post it into Team Chat, for everyone to read. So, if you have a thoughtful team leader, you're in good shape!

Arc Name: Turg Fiction: Ghost in the Machine, Act I
    Arc ID: 1013
    Faction: Heroic
Creator Global/Forum Name: @Turgenev (Live and Test)
Difficulty Level: Best played from 35-50. Middling to Hard.
Estimated Time to Play: 1-2 Hours
Synopsis: Wherein the old is new again; the dead may live; and our hearts will sing where our mind knows not the tune. - On one fateful day, our hero comes across an old Arachnos training simulation regarding a mysterious enemy. And on that fateful day, your life will never again be the same. (Act I of III)

If anyone here played Planetside back in the early 2000s, they might remember my "Turg Fiction" short story series, culminating with the novella "Dissection". Well, it's been five years, and I've been wanting to put quill to ink for a while now. Mission Architect seems like a perfect way to do that.

I crave feedback! Let me know what works and what doesn't! I have the next two arcs already sketched out but unwritten, but I'm really curious to know how well I can tell a a qualified story through a game medium and still retain the emotional impact I'm looking for!

I hope you like my published offering. Please review my arc, enjoy, and tell me what you think.
