I actually don't really like the idea for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is that it's unlikely. Castle has described power boost type powers as one of the banes of his job... I doubt he'd add more of them.
I also don't like the way it'll interact so differently with the different primaries. EM and stone get a lot. Fire gets nothing (Fire/EA is NOT the combo we need to be shafting with a change to /EA)
Finally I'm not sure how those SS types would like the knock component... though there's no need for that to be constant.
Not saying it couldn't be workable, just that it'd be one of the harder fixes to get right.

Power Boost no longer affects Knockback.

Since when?

since the Acrobatics changes in I12. or was it I11.5? i can't remember. -

I still think this is a dumb idea
[/ QUOTE ]
I was laying out why I think its dumb. And not a good business move. This could be that 'slippery' slope that make me look at alternatives to COH.
[/ QUOTE ]
good luck finding a game that doesn't eventually go this route and offer in game items for purchase. you make it seem like CoH is the only one to do so. have you ever checked out any other MMOs? the more money they can make, the better. all online videogames eventually begin to offer services to increase revenue. it's the way of the world. -
[ QUOTE ]
why would you do that though. why pay 2/3rds of a monthly fee for something you could earn the cash for in less than a week? (less than a day if you want to)
I understand why they'll make this option available but still, why do this when you can earn it easily in the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
why do people buy infamy/influence from RMT sites? why do people buy accounts off of eBay? why do people buy powerleveling services off of RMT sites? because for some people, a little bit of money is easier to give than a week of playtime. it's that simple. some people love playing, love building, and love not having to play a week straight on a character to buy something. they want it now, and they have a spare 10 bucks laying around. no biggie. -
[ QUOTE ]
Is buying levels, or badges next?
[/ QUOTE ]
before anyone brings up the "the people with money will be able to buy everything in the game while those without will be left behind," just know that the people with money were already doing this sort of thing with other websites.
and i highly highly doubt they will ever sell badges or levels. don't go to such a extreme to show your displeasure in the game offering services to help it's players have a more enjoyable experience. some people can't do a 2 hour trial, or don't have the know how to play the market to get enough influence to get a respec recipe. it's a good thing to have. -
CoX already has the "have and have nots." just take a look at the market forums. this is a good step in my opinion. it allows the "casual" (and i use the term loosely) player to just drop a couple bucks to get a respec, instead of playing the market for a couple of hours or so. it's more options, and i welcome our new financial overlords.

Sentinel also scourges for Doms as well. so there's that too.

I have concluded that defender colds aren't very good in duels
[/ QUOTE ]
why do you say that? i would think that they're ability to hit you for the slow and -recharge cap (i think) would make them pretty impressive. any reason? or just that the ones you fought weren't very good? -
excellent guide Smurph. i plan on going with the Fighting Power Pool Patron. much better than anything else i could get for my SS/Elec. he only suffers from one kind of E.D., and it has nothing to do with your guide.

the only problem is that it shouldnt deter new players. theyre just perks given to people who have been very loyal to one game for a looooong time. and they are arguable not even very good perks. i see all this rabble rousing from people on the boards all the time about not being able to get such and such item until 30 whatever months but i just dont see it in game. i think people are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
anyhow its just my opinion that they should keep the same system they have in place now. play for a long time, get something shiny and relatively interesting for about a week until they clamor for what else will be coming out cause theyre bored already. -

I've posted this before in other areas of the board and am posting it here because it seems fitting
Vet Reward Solution
The vet rewards seem to really rub many people the wrong way and do discourage some new players and frustrate other mid-length players, especially in the costume department where specific ideas can't quite be realized until you've gotten said rewards. This is a visually appealing game and people put great stock into how their Characters look.
The Solution is to have a variation on every vet reward that is given to every player, with the fancier version being given to the vet.
<ul type="square">[*] 3 Month Trenchcoats: All Players Normal Tail / Vets get Split tail and Ragged Tail.[*] 6 Month Greek Alphabet: All Players lowercase / Vets get upper & lowercase[*] 9 Month Belly Shirt & Kilt: All players belly shirt & formal kilt / Vets get an alternate pattern belly shirt & formal/war kilt.[*] 12 Month Prestige Sprints / Melee weapon / Base Items: All Players 1 sprint, weaker axe/sands (3 hits for sands instead of 5 etc), 1 sci fi, magic, tech, enemy weapon display / Vets get all 4 sprints, full str attacks, all base items.[*] 15 Month Wings: All Players angelic & demon wings / Vets get Alternate Pattern Angelic Wings & Demon Wings (torn, spiky feathers, glow or fire on them, something slightly fancier)[*] 18 Month Samurai Armor: All Players 1 style of armor / Vets get all 3 styles.[*] 21 Month Shoulder Capes: All Players Should capes / Vets get some extra shoulder cape patterns.[*] 24 Month Base Transporter & base posters: All Players base transporter & 2 posters/ Vets get Base Transporter on faster refresh & all posters & titles.[*] 27 Month Anime Style Armor: All Players anime armor / Vets get anime armor & fancier pattern anime armor.[*] 30 Month Signature Group Logos & Signature Items: All Players 2 good 2 bad of each/ / Vets get All items.[*] 33 Month Ranged Weapon: All Players weaker & smaller ranged items Nemesis Rod & Blackwand wand. / Vets get Full powered version also.[*] 36 Month Non Combat Pet: All Players a specific pet (like cherub) / Vets get additional Choice of pets[*] 39 Month Boxing Outfit: All Players boxing outfit / Vets get Alternate pattern outfits + neck towel.[*] 42 Month Assemble the Team: All Players assemble team power longer recharge / Vets get same power faster recharge & quicker activation.[*] 45 Month Respec: All Players freespec / Vets get respec & costume tokens.[*] 48 Month Buff Pet: All Players a specific buff pet (target drones) / Vets get choice of 4 different types in addition to the target drone. Pets mutually exclusive can't have more then one out of any type of buff pet.[/list]
You basically give a basic version of the same thing to the playerbase and fancier versions for the vets with a few more perks but not total exclusivity to them. This lets the vets get something a bit fancier then the normal player but still lets the normal player get something too and not felt left out, then when they get to that time they get the fancier versions.

no. let the players who have been playing for 2+ years have their fluff. if a new player is going to whine and gripe about not being able to have a belly skirt or a kilt chances are they wont be playing long anyway.
not only that but the costumes they give away can easily be made with some imagination and creativity in the character creater. a lot of this stuff wasnt around a long time ago but people still fashioned their character concepts anyway. quit trying to whine your (general not you) way into getting stuff you dont need but will get eventually. -

Because if there are no better ideas, PvP development is dead and buried.
[/ QUOTE ]
that thread is a terrible example of development being dead. its basically "a few of you guys are bad mmkay? quit being bad or else we'll take away your toys." in all honesty, that thread made Ex Libris and the NCSoft staff look like a joke.
im all for PvP getting looked at and getting its share of fixes. i normally stay away from it because i get my butt whipped 3/4ths of the time. no big deal to me, and im sure when i get burnt out on leveling ill go back to trying to get better. i just think it should stay the same, but get a few balancing fixes. that's it. it's pretty obvious that the playerbase that wants to PvP is small, but trying to bribe people into a zone isn't the answer. -
[ QUOTE ]
I won't get too deeply into my various aversions for PvP, but the feeling of going in, getting whupped, and having nothing to show for it but a sense of failure is one reason I don't get especially excited to go PvP. A small but tangible reward for getting my [censored] beat would be a HUGE incentive for me to try PvP more. And of course, once there, the bigger reward for success would naturally make me want to compete. This would be a great incentive for "normal" people to get in there.
[/ QUOTE ]
you dont get a reward for getting your butt "whupped" in PvE, why would you get a reward for doing the same in PvP? you get no debt, you dont lose any enhancements or anything, and all you gotta do is just rez in the zone or the arena. there is little to no risk in PvP for little to no reward (besides the rep and kill badges and Shivans and Nukes). -

TL;DR: Stop relying on a fixed group of people. Give all players on all servers an equal chance. Allow people you haven't selected before to join. A new sample just may surprise you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Log onto Test every once in a while. Seriously. You want to know how a good chunk of these people are being picked? It's because they actually log on to the Test Server. If I were picking people for a closed beta, I would pick people that have shown that they can actually A: Log onto Test, and B: Copy over a character.
It's honestly that simple. The people who don't log onto Test and are picked for the Beta seem to be just random people picked out of a hat. -
I laughed, I cried, and I peed a little.
