because your chances of getting even one person down when you are outnumbered is just ridiculious.
[/ QUOTE ]
Depends on the AT, player and how good they are. A Blaster can nuke a group of players and possibly take out a few.
Wouldn't a solo PvP'er that could take down 3 or more villains without a scratch be slightly overpowered?
[/ QUOTE ]
did I say without a scratch, I meant a chance of ONE villain. Not guaranteed, not 100% of the time, just fair odds for A CHANGE! -
[ QUOTE ]
Say, nice sig.
That's really childish. No one said they were uber in PvP, or that by being so, it made them an awesome person. In fact, if anything, I've specifically said the opposite - just as being bad or inexperienced in PvP is nothing to be ashamed of, being good or more experienced in PvP is hardly any big deal.

hmm, lemme check something...

Theres a forum cartel?
[/ QUOTE ]
its a generic term used to describe the same old people always jumping on everyone with something different to say. -
Kiting and SOE Killed SWG, not fair fights.
As for learning PvP, it's very difficult to learn PvP because of 10 seconds fights due to what I've tried ( in plain english ) to describe.
I should have known that even trying to give an opinion other than that of the forum cartel was a waste of time.
As for crying about stone armor, it happens a lot, except I don't feel the need to keep chat logs of everything :P -
no, but a emp/dark should have a chance against a kat / sr. Purposely giving gimped power examples really isnt the way to try and shoot down my point of view.
As for PvP, yes there will always be better people than me, I accept that. However there is a HUGE difference between them being better and casual gamers not standing a chance, again perhaps you should re-evaluate your idea of balance because again, those casual builds you speak of, probably fall into one of the few known sets that are good in PvP.
For example, many a cry about stone armor in PvP for brute / tank is naturally good.
Everyone should have a good chance at winning a fight, not just the select few thanks. -

What was picked up was your feeling that villains were overpowered, while it may have seemed like that at the time the actual FACT is that heroes are FAR more powerful than villains.
[/ QUOTE ]
as long as you pick the "right" powers that is, which is again the point. PvP should give ALL at's a good chance against other AT's, not just certain ones in rock paper scissors. -
The amusing thing is that every time I come up with the casual gamers interpritation, I get a reply from the stat police. Have you considered that people just want to enjoy the game, whatever their gamer style, which is precisely the point I'm trying to make about balance.

Its not like accuracy is reserved for villains. My blaster will 3 or 4-shot a SR scrapper running elude and all other def powers. Same of course applies to ninjitsu/SR stalkers running elude or retsu. This however does not equal autohit. Just very high accuracy. Something being autohit is an altogether different matter. Shouting about autohits will just eat on your credibility. (this is because there really ARE autohit powers but we arent talking about them here. Power sink is an example of an autohit power, as are targeted toggles like radiation infection and darkest night.)
[/ QUOTE ]
As I said, I don't profess to know every power from merely its effects when it hits, but it was suspect that all that defence was ingored by a villain hold each time I went up against it. Other powers were missing because I rammed up my defence, but the hold still got in there. -
A lot of the inherant abilities of villain sets seem to directly overpower their opposites on the hero side.
If you put a tank against a brute, tanks will naturally add in all their armors and go for a stand up fight because thats what they do. Brutes can do the same thing, but over a period of time boost their damage, giving the tank problems at that kind of time scale.
Stalkers can hide really early on, delivering massive damage in the short term whilst scrappers get critical hit that has to be delivered in the long term with successive hits. By this time, stalker is gone.
Dominators get domination which can effectively overpower controllers, who as I understand it have better holds when domination isnt in effect, but PvP rarely ends up coming down to successive hits or prolonged battles.
Defenders vs. Masterminds. What can I say really, defenders are team players with a lot of aid other powers. Masterminds have that ability, some stupidly powerful shields and they bring thier own team.
As for other really effective PvP abilities, I've always found the Villain holds to be a lot more effective than hero ones, especially in PvP. This was most evident for me during valentines, where our controller just couldnt get a good grasp of snaptooth for some reason, to which a dominator did it in one hit, first time with their basic hold.
Again, I dont profess to know all the ins and outs of PvP, but as an experiment I respecced my Villains on test and the same with my hero's and I had to make far far far far far fewer changes on the Villains. -
because your chances of getting even one person down when you are outnumbered is just ridiculious.

PvP hasn't left me bruised, I just HATE unfair fights in something thats supposed to be entertaining. To make my PvE character viable in PvP to counter a lot of what people are doing with theirs, totally changes him as a character.
As for the fly thing, fly is a travel power, not combat and as such I don't think it should give such an advantage. Also, I didnt say it should affect movement powers, giving people the ability to stay out of range until the effect wears off by running, but it does give players with fly some risk vs. the reward of the advantage it DOES give.
I did leave CoH for a time, and nothing has really changed so far as PvP attitude goes. -
its not, the tarantula queens are good though, about 150 each but they only seem to be in large quantities in PvP zones
I could of course get blatted on Vodka and convert a years worth of inf... No wait, I did that a few months ago...
Damn lol -
In my experience of Villains and Hero's, my villain chars have always managed to easily take down Hero's in PvP very easily.
Wha you have to realise is that the Villain sets incorporate a lot of PvP powers ( stalkers are pretty much designed for it lets not forget ) while the Hero powers had to be adapted for it.
As for being annoyed about RV, yes I am. As many people will have noticed I spend most of my time attacking the Tarantula Queens, with or without heavies, because I know the negative aspect that people associate with turret farming. If there are other hero's in the zone, I'll take turrets however, to try and get a hero win.
As for the PG comment, I organised that on a friday night simply because few other people even think about anything other than their own toon, own rewards and what they get out of it. You probably didnt hear about me handing out My HO's to people who missed the brawl phase did you?
Whats the underlying tone of all this, fair and FUN play.
As for the autohit comment, with all your powers, hitting a SR scrapper with all the powers I had active should be very very low, yet each and every time you manage it on the first hit. Difference last time was that your friends couldnt easily finish the job because of so much defence making them hit me very difficult.
I do admit, I dont pretend to understand all the figures and calculations behind PvP, fair enough. But the balance from playing both sides myself does seem very favored to villain characters. -
[ QUOTE ]
Sadly, holds are very efficient in the game unless you happen to be very prepared for them. I think the very epitome of all this is the old Hamidon experience, where Hami was basically held to death, unable to defend it's blobby self.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which epitimises CoH combat, hence the line. Problem is as mentioned before players will always seek to gain the biggest advantage possible over other players. Its human nature, but in a game where certain reqards are only availiable by doing this ( some of the Villain accolades are only directly availiable through PVP ) it forces certain sets to take certain combo's that few players have any chance against whatsoever. How is that balanced?
its not.
[ QUOTE ]
That's the classic scrapper vs. blaster dilemma - if you are a blaster (not a blapper, no melee attacks in this example) and you face against a scrapper - you have flight, he doesn't. Will you fight him from the air where you're likely to survive, or on the ground where he has the advantage.
To use this in your case - if my self heal recharges in 10 seconds and I have 5 hitpoints left and and an enemy is close to me. Should I charge at him or run away to get myself back to health? Even if it's not the most heroic thing to do, running away really helps survival.
[/ QUOTE ]
If for example, the Cryo pistol accolade hit for -fly, or everyone had an attack with this side effect in their main set ( again, I'd like to avoid forcing people to take powers they dont want, so air superiority isnt the stock answer thanks ) this wouldnt be so much of a problem because it levels the playing field.
[ QUOTE ]
With arena terminals at the Pocket D, the Arenas are now a few short moments away from where-ever you were fighting. If the fighting at the zones bothers you too much, take the fight to the arena, that way you can ensure the fights happen at the terms you set. And they're incredibly fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
True, but I was pointing out the shortfall in trying to have one on one fights, as team vs team or team vs solo are so utterly one sided.
[ QUOTE ]
Exactly. If you go in, you expose yourself to the risk of getting attacked and killed in PvP. If you don't want the risk, you will have to ignore the reward as well. It's really brilliant. I love being an agent of the risk in this case.
In my ideal world, every time a farmer team set out to RV, they'd bring a pvp team with them to guard their carebear assets. That way everyone would win.
[/ QUOTE ]
But again i'm talking about the problems faced by PvE characters. Why should someone happily playing the game, be forced to respec their character to engage in PvP because certain powers work differently? -
I'm still working away on mine. I was going to take advantage of double XP to try and raise the other 100k prestige I need to finish the basics, but problems with [censored] in RV and the additional lag have made me reconsider that idea, but pretty soon I should be up and running, with some screenies!
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this ( search isnt yielding the relevant results ) but to preserve the border around the top and bottom of the rooms, I've raised the floor and lowered the ceiling in each doorway. It looks pretty good, if anyone tries it in their base or has an alternative please let me know! -
I don't mind admitting I was Hero one in that.
let me sum something up.
You were a level 45 character, hitting a well slotted PvE character who had 3 shields, Magus accolade, stealth slotted for defence and elude and you think you guys aren't overpowered?
Whatever you're smoking, please, pass it around.
As for trash talking, if you can spend an entire weekend in the SAME ZONE farming, then you should be able to take a little trash, but your post would suggest the opposite. Now you KNOW that you cant see an opponents powers in PVP, but from the rate that you dropped everyone, it's a reasonable supposition to think its a PvP build you're using, especially given the punishment that my ( Whole ONE level 50 character that I play CoH with, hence the accolades ) character can take.
You guys might have a good laugh at my broadcasts, but basicially, I don't care because I play CoH to have fun, so I'll be avoiding RV in future as, as I thought when I heard PvP was coming to CoH, that the game would be just as pointless as every other MMO PvP experience I've been subjected to. -
to OP.
personally, I really dont like the server specific double XP weekend. True, we can't blame defiant for causing all of the lag problems on Union, but it has caused everyone with accounts to play at the same time, including the regular Defiant base.
As for PVP, generally I preferred CoH before PVP was introduced. In every MMO I've ever played, PVP has just brought ( for me ) bad things instead of good and the same can be said for ( unfortunately ) CoH.
Warburg's PVP is limited to fighting at the beach near the Hero ship, any other PVP in there is accidental, not intentional as there are so many places to head to in the web. Thats not a bad thing, but with the nature of Hero / Villain imbalance, it makes for a difficult time unless you head in there at quiet times, or take a team.
( please note, a lot of people say "if pvp is too hard, take a team, but its not always viable and players should not be FORCED to team to enjoy zone specific content )
As for RV, I really don't like this zone. It was a good idea, but the nature of CoH combat seems to be either stack holds in a team on one person, then shout how good you are on broadcast at that person, send in a heavy while said person is already fighting something, or continually fly away as soon as you're about to lose.
I think its not that the zones are dying out, its that unless you have a team ( or keep chat logs to justify the lack of sunlight some people experience ) you can't really PVP and people are taking notice.
If you try and duel and you get ganked, you get the stock "OMG PVP IN A PVP ZONE" comments, that are frankly correct, but NOT FUN which is the point of games.
My decision, I state MY DECISION which for all the people that will no doubt chip in on this one, is to not give two hoots about PVP anymore. When the arena's were introduced a lot of people didn't use them, and still dont, yet now reward based zones with PVP risks are here, people seem to defend PVP rules much much much more fiercely. Again, thats my interpritaion of things from the boards, so before people start digging up quotes, or getting statistics about things, don't bother.
You may also ask the relevance to the OP. Well, here goes. It seems that PvP isnt geared towards the PvE builds. PvE characters really can't PVP as players will ALWAYS make specific builds to give them advantages over other players to try and justify thier existance or something. Adding rewards to repeated success of said advantaged characters in PvP zones only makes the matter worse.
When I wan't to fight players, I'll go play something where the fight is fair and balanced. If I want a good MMO experience, I'll stay the hell away from the "dungeon master on a saturday night PVP crowd" and go kick some PvE butt! -

Every night around 7pm

OMG! That explains a lot!!! Sorry guys, didn't know people we're doing nightly ones, I've been getting home 9pm+ fridays for the last couple of weeks ( posting from work still today ) but wasnt aware of weekday ones!!!! -
the Hami change is good, but this 50 player cap still has a lot of people miffed
-
latest patch notes mention a delay between a Mito spawning and being able to use powers, which means the group in the cytoplasm can get out of dodge or begin the attack, but handy info
-
I raised the floor and dropped the ceiling in each doorway by one position so that the rooms have a continuious trim around them, if only they used smaller increments for the ceiling it would look perfect!!!
-
Just thought I'd welcome the new members that joined up tonight! We look forward to seeing you guys at the next raid!!!
Tonight was quiet quiet, with the few of us holding a good defence against GM interference!
Only realy glitch of the evening was a certain someone trying to get Ianroar killed while he was AFK after the raid! :/ -
I'm just chuffed I managed that much without turret farming
although the base for me is a long term project, and doing it solo is making it harder! just annoying that to go from 2 tp's to 2 tp's and a whole medbay, I need about 500k for a control room, power room and the kit to go in them!
Surely the combo control / power should be upgradeable or something!!! -
lol, I might head there on my next day off for a look, I can work on getting a few more toxic tarantulas while im there!!
As for my current income, I did make a bit of a dent in my prestige needs by doing missions most of today, went from about 25 to 75k today -
ok, alas I will be a tad late again to tomorrow nights raid, but im logged out on the hill so I can jump straight into the fight with you guys!
Crimson: please lead Perimeter 1 until I get there, liase with Lost on mito clearing and defensive stance.
Spine: once again, if you can get Perimeter 2 up and running, again, any info you get forward onto lost as per normal
Apart from that, should be good hunting and a HO for all once again!
