Quote:I still don't get how you can be that poor1. Team a lot doing random missions (i.e., not "team every time there's a TF in the making", random missions).
2. Watch the rate of drops you get plummet.
3. Don't play a lot once you get to 50.
4. ???
5. Lack of Profit!
My poorest level 50 is my rad/rad defender (also my only hero 50 since I'm a villain player). I leveled him in PuGs in a 4 weeks period in order to get a 50 to participate in a STF and so I could get Kheldians. Since he hit 50 I have taken him out on only 2 other occasions, the STF and this years winter event.
He has over 150 mil left on his 'account' after slotting him with lvl50 SO's. Just from playing random missions and selling his drops.
150 isn't a fortune but enough to pluck in some decent sets in attacks and other key powers. -
-
I'd like to bring along my rad/rad defender (my only level 50 hero). I'll try and talk some of my VG people into getting on their heroes aswell. So that's another 2-8 people depending on who comes.
I'm even willing to lead a team if you're still in need of leaders. -
Quote:Lots of stacked defenseSo... Just ran an LRSF, 49 minutes.
SG/Global Friend people:
Plant/Psi Dominator
Fire/Cold Corruptor
Fire/Cold Corruptor
Fire/Kinetics Corruptor -> Me
Random call-out people:
Widow VEAT
Fire/Electric Brute
SS/Electric Brute -> Went afk just before we rushed the FP. Never came back for the fight.
Mind/Psi Dominator -> Crashed on loading 2nd or 3rd mission, don't remember. Never came back.
So, we had one Shivan, 2 Vengeances stacked on everyone but the Widow's vengbait corpse, and no WB nukes. Oh yeah, there was a Snowbeast, too. Had two deaths, one of the Cold/Fire Corruptors was grilled by a lucky nuke and the participating Brute got nailed by Manticore's Telegank with Statesman chasing them, too.
We didn't exactly have an ideal team and we completely, utterly rolled the Phalanx with 6 people. I guess the Snowbeast is what made all the difference...
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!1!1!!!eleven!1!
*One more thing of amusement: Actually held and killed Valkyrie through MoG after she rezzed. Soul Storm hold animation is greatly amusing.
Lots of ranged damage output
Ranged heal
4 of you knew eachother
Seems pretty close to an ideal team if you ask me -
*Find some way to the open the Shadow Shards for villains.
*More SF's filling the level gaps for villains.
*Revamp of the old Hero content e.g.:
- Talk missions (like srg. whatshisname for the Hollows, all the security chiefs,...); Make them optional! You get to make a choice between the talk mission or a combat mission.
- All those loose missions not part of an arc, ditch them. I hate it that I have to wade through half a dozen of glorified radio missions before I'm offered the actual arc I picked the contact for. Or alternativly make it so you can pick either the loose missions or the story arc.
- Revamp old, uninteresting and underused (hazard) zones.
*Better worked out base editor with more decorative base items.
Nothing very spectaculer and all very doable IMO. -
Quote:As a MM you shoudln't have been getting any agro. When fighting multiple heroes your brutes (or dominators, or whoever is in charge of agro control) should be keeping the agro away from the squishies, and you should make sure you're out of the AoE agro range from the heroes.Pretty much the problem I found (Bots/Traps here). My bots were doing negligiable damage and, if anything, simply making me an aggro magnet. POssibly why I died so much.
If squishies start dieing you'll lose buffs and dps and things'll get dicey. If the brutes can't hold of more than 1 hero they should use inspirations untill they can. If that means getting a new full tray after each hero death than so be it.
Of course this isn't as easy as I make it sound, at least not for PuGs where noone really know eachothers skills and play styles. -
Quote:The next time someone tells you something like that, tell them that they're an idiot and ignore the 'advice'.The one time I was on a LRSF run was on my MM and I was told not to bother summoning pets at all. Eventually I volunteered to be Veng bait just so I could contribute SOMETHING to the SF. To this day it's the one badge that I would like to give back. I've never participated in a LRSF run, I was just handed the badge.
Even if all you manage to do is to keep 1 minion up, it's still more dps than nothing. -
Quote:This is what I've been trying to say. Couldn't agree more. Teamplay and knowing what your team can do are key, not what AT they bring. You're mixing two things together. A random pug is not the same thing as a mishmash assortment of buff and debuff and damage types in the hands of experienced RSF players. Read my posts. There are keys to victory, and the encounter is easy if you know what they are. That means you see what powersets and ATs people brought, and you adjust to make sure you bring the keys. Lack defense? Bring more lucks. Lots of Lethal/Smashing damage? Get Shivans. Sure, if it really doesn't look like a good mix even with that, 1-2 people might consider getting a different character.
No one is trying to say that any random group of people who try it the first time is the same as going in with a non-optimized team of players who know how to win. It's not. A non-optimized team still knows what they need, and will try to make sure they have all the things they need somehow.
For a team that can win the LRSF, there is absolutely no question that the rest of the game is a total joke. -
Quote:The LRSF is hard. The hardest thing in the game, excluding hamidon imo. (except when you're doing it on a weekly basis with an experienced crew, then it really isn't.) For the other parts he's right though, you don't necessarily NEED any sort of temps (doesn't stop me from carrying shivs around, but I wont use em if I believe the team can do without). You also don't NEED any specific team make up (an all s/l dmg team can get you into trouble though, unless you have a lot of debuffs) All sorts of combinations can and have completed LRSF's and even MoLRSFs. For a pug though you do need a balanced team and a strong tanking brute that knows his stuff, imo. This one says the LRSF isn't hard, and all you need is 8 competent players. Amusingly, this also suggests that you don't need temps of any sort, or a specific team makeup. All you need is a specific team makeup with all the right buffs and debuffs, and aggro control.
Quote:And these two just plain insult the OP and his friends for being the worst players in the world, or braindead.
My advise is, if you really want to complete it, is to get a semi regular group togheter and just practice it every week untill you succeed, learning from mistakes. Or tag along with an already experienced team. PuGs can be very hit or miss, both in terms of fun and succes, because some people, even with years of vet rewards under their belt are just bad players no matter which way you look at it. -
Quote:This is true, I once did a LGTF with all decent players that went great rite up until the point that we fought the Honoree, we just couldn't kill him. Why? same problem I had on the all brute LRSF I mentioned above. 7 out of our 8 players were smashing or lethal damage (I was a dark/dark corr specced for buffs and control), we just couldn't crack his combination of unstoppable and regen. Only LGTF I ever failed. There's a degree of preparation and inspirations and tactics that can help curb that. But the posts I see in this thread about how the LGTF is laughably easy no matter what team you have, without any temp powers, is just insulting. It's the hardest mission in the game. This isn't a contest; nobody cares if you're so awesome that you think anyone who can't do it blindfolded is a dolt. Help the OP out, don't tell him how much he and all his friends suck at the game.

Quote:The last mission can be tough, especially on PuGs. But it's not THAT hard either. There are only 3 things you 'need' on the LRSF imo:Ok, so;
8 man team. Steamrolled everything up to the last mission of the LRSF. Kronos Titan? Floored. Slinger? Floored. Vindicators? Floored.
Last mission.
How is it, that such a well done SF can end on such a...a cheap note? It really is just that. 8 or 9 Heroes, set at perma level 53.
Now, this might just be opinion, but surely there is a difference between 'Challenging' or 'Very Hard' and 'Not actually possible without all 3 Warburg Nukes, Shivans and a specific team make up'?
If this was a random PuG, maybe it wouldn't taste so bitter. Even then, it will still cheapen the whole thing, that the last mission is basically a lolGank fest, that doesnt so much challenge as just push the difficulty through the roof.
But this was a team of some very good palyers, with very tough characters. We did all the right things. And we just got flattened.
At least I understand now why people were so immensley hacked off when the difficulty settings made -1 work for MO runs. Because that isn't challenging, thats just...
Words fail me.
And my inner game designer screams 'Cheap'.
1) a Brute that is able take and hold the agro of multiple Heros at the same time and makes it his job to tank for the team.
2) 2 corruptors/masterminds (preferbly 1 with buffs and one with debuffs, but 2 of the same will work too) That make it their job to keep the brute alive.
3) an insp tray filled with 3-4 rows of lucks.
You can fill the rest with whatever you like. None of the players need to have expensive slottings, decent SO builds will do just fine, as long as you take people that know how to play their respective toons and play as a team.
Our SG used to do these on a weekly basis (3-8 SG players and friends, the rest PuG) most of us are inactive now though, so it's been a while. We got quite good at it.
Our usual 'tactics' for the final mission were fairly straightforward:
Gather in front of the platform with the heros
Everyone buffs up.
The tanker brute takes purples till softcapped, the rest takes 2-3 (or till softcap).
Tanker brute charges in takes the agro from 8 heroes and herds em into a bunch, his main focus now is to keep all the agro on him and to stay alive.
Debuffs are aplied.
other melee jumps in and start on numina
All the squishies stay out of the AoE attack range from the 8 angry heros focussed on the tank and start also on numina, if this means squishies can't use some of their attacks due to range than so be it.
Reaply buffs when needed and healers should focus on the tank, since all the agro is held by the main brute and all squishies are out of harms way, this should be doable.
7 people keep their damage focussed on 1 hero at a time
Numina -> Sister -> Positron -> whoever bothers you the most.
Easy as pie
Someone mentioned the possibility of an all brute LRSF in this thread, this is very doable. Out SG tried this once and it went very well. We didn't complete however because we overlooked one tiny detail. 5 of our 8 brutes were Super Strenght and 1 Energy Melee. This meant that we couldn't kill statesman because, when he's unstoppable he has 100% resistance to S/L/E dmg types. So the only ones doing a little bit of damage were our fire/invul and dark/dark brute. We killed all the other heros but had to stop after pounding away at states for a small hour. We weathered him down, he popped unstoppable, he regened to 3/4 life, we took him down, he popped unstoppable, ...One on the chin for FotM powersets, eh?
All *insert AT* LRSF's can certainly be done though, I know of all dominator, all stalker and of course all VEAT MoLRSF's being completed. And this wasn't during the horrible -1 period. -
Very nice video! Maybe my favourite from you yet.

Quote:I'd say that the more different people report a griefer indepentantly from eachother the more weight is added to the 'accusations', even if it does 'clog up' the petition line. The more the merrier.Does it help or hinder if multiple people petition? On the one hand, it would be nice for everyone to vent constructively (ya know, otherwise you're helpless to stop the fun-ruiner) and the GMs would get a better sense of the scale of the perp's annoyingness, but... One petition is all that is required I suppose, and much easier for the GMs to work with.
What's the stance here? -
As far as I know she's always had that spear, I believe it's even part of her origin.
The Demon hunter Hero who's name I can't remember right now is the one with a battle axe. -
I'd prefer the use of the actual language and subtitles over horrible accents.
I was very pleasently surprised at Inglourious Basterds for instance.
Horrible accents are horrible. Simple as that really. -
Quote:You now, back in the day, we (EU people) had our own team that organised events like this for us ... Support for the EU went down fast ever since they closed that down. Makes you wonder why NCSoft still bothers with keeping us around.

Quote:I'm not opposed to this sort of mentallity, but I just really don't get it. If a novel is trashy and has boring parts, I simply don't read it ...I play a lot of different characters and most of them have been PL'ed to some extent at some point in their 'lives'. If they're fun, I keep playing them. If they aren't fun, I delete them.
There's no moral component to efficient leveling any more than there's a moral component to how fast you read a trashy novel- if you want to skim the boring parts, who cares? You're the one reading the book. Nobody's grading your performance.
That said, if you prefer to pour over every word more power to you.
Play the game you enjoy.
But as you said, to each their own. -
Quote:Zullen we deze discussie dan maar in het Nederlands voort zetten? En Francais peut-etre? Non?.... And you'll get over it! I simply know you will!
People who believe every last thing they're told tend to end up dead under the jungle sun with an empty paper cup fallne near their cold, outstretched hand containing traces of grape kool-aid at the bottom. Or worse. History has shown us this many times.
Luckily this will not occur over anything to do with an MMORPG, but its still bad policy.
But in order to truly, truly insult me you're gonna have to learn to spell better; I simply cannot take a flame like this seriously when it is so badly spelled. Thanks though.
Cheap attack is cheap, sweetcheeks.
I wasn't trying to insult you, nor flamebaiting, I was just making an observation.
But obviously you rather make fun of the foreign guy with his funny accent than say something sensible, so I'll leave you be. -
Strange, this is the same feeling I got when I read some of your posts on this subject...
Being critical of information is necessary, but the rampant amount of paranoya you have displayed over something as minor as this is astonnishing. -
Quote:Dispite my earlier post, I have to say that you do make a good point here. One of the reasons we got our own server park is that we can adhere to normal European times instead of being forced to compromise with American times.
Still not enough for me to get worked up about though. -
I work in a 3 shift system, so this affects me too. The new hours are indeed 'worse' than the previous ones, but all in all this change isn't really significant enough to get worked up over. EVE Online for example has maintenance every day for hours during noon. (well for me it's between 13.00 and 14.00) That's a lot worse.

It's illegal in most of Europe too. The Netherlands being the notable exception. In Belgium it's illegal, but noone is going to raise much of a ruckus if you're cought with a small amount for personal use, it'll get confiscated and you might get a fine. Bigger amounts will get you into more trouble.

Quote:There's a Know Issues thread from 9/11 in the Issue 16 ... Chatter & Discussion.Where'd you find this? The Known Issues thread at the top of this forum hasn't been updated since February!
They should find one spot to post those in and keep them there, it can be a bit confusing like this. -
I'm a bit in two minds about the new forums. I like all the new functionality and the boards themselves run smoother for me too. I did disable signatures though, because some of those sig banners take a good 10-20 seconds to load for some reason.
What I don't like are the bugs: 'Go to last unread' working randomly at best, read posts getting marked as unread again, getting logged out at my home pc when I've logged in from another pc, ...
About the atmosphere, well it sure got a lot bigger. Did it get better? sometimes. More people means more experience and opinions being shared on topics (good), it also means a worse signal-to-noise ratio (bad). The bigger a forum (any forum) gets the more nonsense you have to wade through. From my experience this seems to grow exponentionaly instead of linear with the board size. On the old EU boards everything about the same subject tended to be centralised in 1 maximum 2 threads, here it appears to be the norm to start a new thread for every slight variation/update on the subject, even when there are 2 others threads about the subject on the same page.
I do like the more direct acces to dev posts and comments, and since information is the biggest reason I use these forums the changes are an overall positive for me.
