Quote:You have two ways to proceed. 1) Update the ticket yourself. In some ticket systems, that will "ping" the person assigned to your case. 2) PM Avatea or Niviene and ask them to follow up on it. Being the community liaison, that's part of their job description. If any of the community chaps/chapesses around here could take a look it's ticket 100124-003397
Good luck, I hope it gets resolved quickly. -
Quote:Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean that Going Rogue would be like an add-on pack, I meant that the "Complete Collection" would be like an add-on pack. It sounds to me like they're setting it up for the following to be released:I'd be surprised if that were the case.
This isn't a pack, to begin with - the Mac edition was, really, just a "Hey, we have something that'll run on Mac" with the release of goodies. GR is going to require you to purchase the full thing for you to enter the zones and whatnot - and why wouldn't they say "And you can upgrade your purchase now!" right away?
- Going Rogue ($29.99)
- Some as-yet unnamed add-on pack that includes the Alpha- and Omega-themed auras and costume sets, Shadowy Presence, and extra emotes ($9.99)
- Going Rogue: Complete Collection ($39.99), which includes both of the above.
The second item is speculation on my part, but it would be like how people who bought the Architect Edition got to add on one of the booster packs. Or a better analogy might be the "Hero Gear" kit that they released so that people wouldn't have to buy the CoH Collector's Edition DVD after they had already bought the original game.
If they don't do that, then the question that I'd have is that if someone spends $30 and then changes their mind and decides that they want the goodies in the Complete Collection edition, do they really have to go shell out $40 more for it also, or can the just buy something for around $10 (the second item above) that will effectively give them the same thing? -

Quote:Here's my guess: so that players who are brand new to the game won't have them open. Not exactly "epic" if you get them at 20 with the leveling curve we have now. Why not just open them at the start if it will be that soon?
The reason I suspect that's an issue is because all of the tutorial information is geared towards non-Kheldian players. Plus, flight and teleportation mechanics is a lot to take in when you are literally on day one. This way, someone has to be in the game at least a few hours and learn the basics of how to move around, target stuff, etc. before deciding to take on one of the more conceptually difficult archetypes in the game. -
Quote:If I had to guess, I'd say probably so, but probably not up front. I'd guess a few months in, you'll be able to get some kind of booster pack that includes all of the extra stuff for $9.99, but that's pure speculation.I wonder if the extra lewt will be available as a separate download, like the Mac Edition items?
I don't intend to be in a position to find out.
I'm sorry, did you think my intention was to post a "frst post!" message? I'm not "late," I took some time to actually write up some summary information, format the message to my liking, and even add a few sentences of commentary. I posted it exactly when I wanted to. -
In case you haven't read it yet (it's only around five minutes old), there is a new news post on the front page with LOTS more details about Going Rogue and Issue 17: Dark Mirror.
The tl;dr version:
Issue 17- Titled "Dark Mirror"
- Includes Ultra Mode as part of its release. Existing zones do include Ultra Mode upgrades.
- Epic archetypes available at level 20 instead of 50. (!)
- New badges, missions, and emotes.
- Mission Architect improvements, UI enhancements, "and more..."
Going Rogue- Release: July 2010
- $29.99, or $39.99 for the "Complete Collection" edition.
- Some features will be available early (March and April) for pre-ordering, including dual-pistols and demon summoning powersets.
- Completely Collection item pack includes extra features: alpha and omega auras and costume sets, four stance emotes, "Shadowy Presence," a new invisibility power.
I'm still a little confused over the editions. It sounds like you will be able to pre-order Going Rogue in March and/or April and get powersets unlocked at that time. However, it says, "You will also be able to get your hands on an exclusive item pack if you get the City of Heroes Going Rogue: Complete Collection (MSRP $39.99 USD), that will be available when Going Rogue releases in July!" I don't know if that means that the Complete Collection edition will be available in July, or if you can pre-order it instead of the normal Going Rogue edition in March and April, but the exclusive items will only be available in July.
Surely they don't mean that you can pre-order Going Rogue early for $29.99 and get bonuses, and then order the "Complete Collection" later for $39.99 to get the extra perks. If I had to guess, I'd think that you can pre-order Going Rogue ($29.99) or Going Rogue: Complete Collection ($39.99) in March/April, you'll get access to dual pistols and demon summoning early and access to Praetoria in July, and if you pre-ordered Complete Collection, you'll get the other loot in July. -
You have to upload it to an image hosting service, such as PhotoBucket. The link you included has it on your local hard drive, which of course, we don't have access to.
Seriously. Eating now, bed in minute. -
Wait a minute, if we're talking about badges with transposed letters, then I've found three of them in all, also. Here is an updated grid with all of the found words, plus phonetically "found" words, plus words found with two letters transposed:
List of found words
ACE
OUTLAW
RAVER
ROMAN
SENTRY
TRACER
WARDEN
List of words found phonetically
CHEEF (Chief)
DIGGR (Digger)
NTERN (Intern)
STOIQ (Stoic)
List of words found with letters transposed
CHEIF (Chief)
PNWZ (Pwnz)
SRUGING (Surging)
Here's the legalese, on the offhand chance that this is the "trick" that Avatea has in mind:
If I am a winner, I permit NC Interactive, Inc. and NCsoft Europe Limited to use my name, likeness, photograph, hometown, and any comments that I may make about myself or this contest that I provide for advertising and promotional activities. I also certify that I am at least 13 years of age and am eligible to participate in this contest.
I'll let Avatea sort out if this is good enough to pass muster. If not, you all have at it, and good luck. Soup. Bed. -
Well, since people are posting the words I've found...

Yes, I know that's eleven words. I figure that if that is indeed the "trick," an extra phonetic word might have crept in there by mistake, like a few did last week.
If that's not the trick and I just gave away a bunch of answers, apologies in advance, but I'm really feeling bad with this cold and I've been staring at it for six hours now, and I've got to go to bed. -
Quote:Okay, I give up. I found seven pretty quickly, but then I have been over this thing completely at least three times with the full list of badges from City Info Tracker and the Paragon Wiki, including the AE badges that were removed, the Bug Hunter and Passport badges (which are extremely rare), and I even scoured it for something like "Jester" or "April Fool" to account for the unobtainable April Fool's Day prank badge from a few years ago.I do have to resort to tricks to keep you all from figuring this out in 5 minutes (I work for ebil-o actually)!
And yes, Equation, you can participate in this challenge even though you've won the Caption game.
Only an hour and a half before teh end...
I have an idea what the "trick" might be, but I don't want to post something with seven answers while everyone is still looking. If no one else gets it, I'll post it in an hour or so on the offhand chance that I'm on the right track.
In the meantime, I have a nasty cold, Belle has some more soup made for me, and boy does it smell good. -
Quote:I wouldn't. For one thing, if you're not disqualified for winning the other contest, you'll want to hold the ones you know close to your vest. For another, it would irritate me if you put out there three or four that I already know and none that I don't, because I'd be thinking that crap, now someone might have three or four that I don't, and they just got a huge boost over me.Are we allowed to help each other out, posting ones we have found, not WHERE they are.. but to help the rest of us narrow down the search.. I mean we are heroes after all.
But I don't wanna do something that disqualifies me.
Patience, folks, someone will get it eventually. -
I've found seven so far, and...
I find that extremely difficult to believe.
Have you double-checked the puzzle, Avatea, to make sure that all of the badges are spelled right?
Edit: I ask, because I've found a seven-letter one, but two letters are transposed. Statistically, that's kind of odd unless you put "distractor" answers in the puzzle. -

Hey, this is my new hero, his name is:

There's a java version in the works that will be cross-platform. I can't give any timeframe on it, though. (I'm not the one who's working on it.)

Quote:Sambratulations!Okay, CONGO refers to a place. (Well, multiple places, Congo Basin, Republic of the Congo, Congo River, etc).
CONGA is a dance. (Also a type of music and a drum.)
On a side note, the lead rat is wearing a hat with fruit, presumably a reference to Carmen Miranda. However, she was more associated with a style of music called samba. FYI, at the height of her career, she was the highest-paid entertainer in the U.S. for several years and also, at one point, the highest-paid woman in the country (earning $200,000 in 1945). -
Quote:For Facebook, right-click on the NoScript icon and pick Allow facebook.com and then repeat for fbcdn.net.I've done that, but now I don't actually know when it's blocking stuff and the like, and when something isn't running I have a random selection of URLs to guess which ones I need and stuff. It's like I just went onto Facebook to play Mafia Wars, the page isn't fully scrolling, I don't know if that is noscript, something else (AVG and/or ZA have been having a fun not fully loading site problem in recent times) or what. Is this now my safe internet viewing experience? Constantly looking at not entirely working sites and wondering what is actually causing it?
If you have any question about whether it's NoScript causing an issue, right-click on the icon, pick Temporarily allow all this page, and if it's still hosed up, it's not NoScript.
And yes, when you first install it, it's kind of a pain to allow just the right scripts to run so that your most common sites work correctly. Keep in mind, however, that once you do, assuming that you're like me and you browse the same 20 or so sites around 95% of the time, you won't have to fool with it again for a long time.
And yes, some sites are stupid and don't work at all without enabling javascript on a bunch of third-party sites. But believe me, in the long run, the pain in the butt of whitelisting a handful of sites is so worth knowing that your machine won't be compromised by a piece of malware. (And that those stupid Flash ads are gone forever!)
In general, I don't mind whitelisting javascript on a site itself. For example, if you're at thisismysite.com, I wouldn't really hesitate to whitelist thisismysite.com. But all of those doubleclick.com, fastclick.com, google-analytics.com, etc., those are forever blocked. -
Quote:In the options, set it not to pop up the message. Also, keep in mind that if you run across pages where you do want scripts to run, right-click on the NoScript icon and whitelist the site. But try whitelisting only that site.Just installed adblock and noscript because of this thread. That scripts currently forbidden popup at the bottom of the screen is going to irritate the life out of me
For example, if you whitelist youtube.com and ytimg.com, YouTube will work without a problem. -
Quote:If I were a girl, would I be Tony Va?About the only thing that has managed to confuse me is that English (and American) last names don't have gender suffixes, so a Dr. Dimitrov (a male last name, by the way) could just as easily end up being a man as a woman, which tends to be played with in movies.
Edit: Reminds me of when I was in high school, there was a guy who came from Greece. He said his name was pronounced differently depending on whether you were addressing him directly or talking about him in third-person. Part of me wonders if he was just messing with me. Anyone here know Greek? If so, is that true? -
Douglas Adams, by the way. And I'm not really that smart, I looked it up in the Google.
-
Yes, it is. And so is MafiaWars. On my Facebook page, I have blocked all applications because I hate those stupid posts. I don't care one iota if you just adopted a sad cow or got a new grenade.
-
I used to post a fair amount to call out stupidity, but a while back, I realized that the developers (thank goodness) don't listen to those people anyway, so I stopped bothering.
Now, I usually only post when I have something to say about the Paragon Wiki/Titan Network.
If I had to pick people I put a lot of faith in, I'd rank Memphis_Bill and Aett_Thorn up there. I like Fleeting Whisper's posts, he's a smart and helpful guy. I like Catwhoorg a lot because he has helped out a ton with the Paragon Wiki. (And he's one of the few people here I've met in person.) I'm also a fan of Aggelakis, too, she's helped out a ton with the wiki also.
If I ever reach the level of "Forum Cartel," I think I'm going to ask to have it changed to "Wiki Wonk" or something. I hate that title, because it implies that they're part of a clique or something. (Which, to be fair, some of them are, but it's not as bad as it used to be, thank goodness.)
As for Cuppa Incarnate... Ugh. For those of you who have come here in the past, gosh, over three years now, CuppaJo was the original community rep. She had a bunch of leechy followers that would post what I call "nom nom" replies--nonsensical fawning messages--to all of her posts. I liked her okay and thought she did a good job, but jeez, people. Anyway, for a long while while she was here and after she left, this "Cuppa" theme was pushed, which is where that title came from. If I recall correctly, the first person who actually reached 20,000 posts got to pick it, and that's what they picked. I don't know who it was, and I'd just as soon leave it that way in case they're still around.
If they've gotten rid of that title, then thank god. I think that if it were still around, if I ever got there, I'd just stop posting forever when I got one shy. -
Quote:Fortunately, the Paragon Wiki's "business" model forgoes that possibility. The problem with that though is, at some point ad revenue will go down because advertisers realise how many block them, and then sites go under because they can't afford to exist. It's a one finger salute to malware, but potentially websites too.
I agree with the others. My opinion is that if you can't provide me a browsing experience in which the ads are unobtrusive and free of malware, then I am under no obligation to view your ads. I know that some argue that this is "stealing" content, and while I don't agree with that viewpoint, I do understand it.
Still, I have every right to take steps to protect my computer from harm that can be inflicted by third-party web sites, and with all of the exploits such as these out there, I consider not running unapproved third-party javascript code part of a sane and responsible security strategy.
Even when the Paragon Wiki was hosted at Wikia, I encouraged people to block the ads, especially when they fell through on their promises of the ads being discreet and not injected into the content of the articles. I'm glad we bailed out when we did, because from the looks of things, the site has gotten much, much worse.
And I seriously dispute the assertion that you have to bog your site down with advertising in order to make a profit. Google has made billions of dollars by doing just the opposite. Does anyone else here remember the days when search engines were trying to basically become ad portals? Google realized that less is more, and created an advertising strategy that gave both advertisers and consumers what they wanted: a useful service without being a pain in the a**. I had several conversations with the Powers That Be at Wikia to try to make them understand that, but as you can see, that was a fundamental difference of opinion we never saw eye-to-eye on.
I'm convinced that Wikia is a great idea. If they'd just stop being so greedy and focus more on providing a useful service to the community and less on turning every page into a billboard, I think it would be wildly successful, much more than it is now. -
Thus the Firefox/AdBlock Plus/NoScript combo that I highly recommend to my friends. If you must go with a non-Firefox browser, I've found Chrome to be my favorite. Of all of the browsers I tried, it was the only one that detected that I was trying to load malware.
