What I can't understand is how folks are saying that even though he's the clearly defined Evil, that there can still be any moral ambiguity left. You can't point to black and call it gray. If he was an Antagonist, I could work with that. Extremist, Anti-Hero, hell even if he was a Villain there could be some work around there. But the word I keep seeing is Evil. You do not reconcile with that. You do not work with Evil.

    Evil is.

Evil is Darkseid, it is Joker, it is Lecter, it is pain, destruction, death and suffering. You do not half *** Evil. Evil is what Recluse wants to be when he grows up. Even a Villain can have redeeming qualities, but not Evil. It is the antithesis of everything that makes sense in the world. And it is not something that can be hidden. If a person is Evil, truly Evil as Tyrant is supposed to be, then no right minded soul can even look upon him and not KNOW that their life is in imminent danger.

On the color scale of morality Evil is the cold dark center of a black hole. A person has to earn the right to be called Evil, and it's not something that they can ever come back from.

And it's not something I can work with. Ever.
Which is exactly why the closest thing to evil we have in this game is Mako, not Lord Recluse.

Tyrant may be a tyrant, but he's no Darkseid.

I think the first question to ask yourself is this: Are you enjoying yourself?

If that's the case, then no, you have not made too many alts. It's when the number of alts prevents you from getting to your goals and you become frustrated with not having such and such character to 50 and completed that perhaps it's time to stop rolling alts and focus on a single player.

Sometimes, this just happens naturally when we start to enjoy playing a character anyway. Sometimes we have to intentionally do this.

I grew up playing D&D, Star Wars, Pallidium, and Rifts Pen & Paper style and have even written stories, as well as drawn pictures of characters iv made before.

It goes back as far as me being 12 years old playing Star Wars.I still have, and use names and themes back from those days, and have a enormous list of characters, pictures, and back stories, as well as even writting out full personalities of my characters on top of all of that.

So this is kinda why I tend to attack people who down power sets, and use Mids on this game.I was litterally raised playing Roll Playing games and Video Games, so my perspective on Cookie Builds, Power Gamming, and Math Programs like Mid's irritate me because it defeats the purpose of a game as a whole in my eyes.
For some people like me, it's our desire that our character be "super" as we have grown incredibly attached to a particular character. This is when programs like mids and min/maxing come in handy as suddenly our character be powerful enough to fit our vision of it.

Now if you go along this route long enough, you'll find some players do seek out the toughest thing they can think of. It might be the best character at punching AV's in the face. It might be seeking the best character at beating up lots of things at once. The point is, just because someone isn't focused on the storyline, or the background of a character doesn't mean they aren't actively seeking something valuable from it. Who doesn't want to play Superman at one point in their life?

By playing the way I do, I can easly take power sets people down for whatever reason, and make it shine like a new penny. So its not easy for me to understand why everyone suggjests the same things, over and over again and find it fun.
Funny fact: jest=make fun of, joke. Suggest is the right spelling, and this little error is just funny. If people suggjested the same thing, you'd have more posts like Mr. Playskool's Strong and Pretty (which somebody could argue actually led to a buff of two powersets!). In other words, you just invented a new word, Fire_Minded.

Hence why I babble on about how I can make a FA/FM Tanker a Mob Wiper at +3/8 w/Bosses solo.Because iv exsplored the potential of the build, instead of putting the power sets in the same class as other Tanker sets and combos, and made my own investigation instead of listening to the bad things said about it.
Did you know that particular combination was incredibly popular in this game at one point in time? If you did play during this time, you would have avoided this set like the plague. However, changes to the game caused the set to fade from its glory days. It's still great, but you should have seen what it used to do. In fact, it was played exactly like how you are encouraging right now - as a tough AoE damage machine.

My point is this: Someone's FOTM is another player's unique discovery.

So far, my Atlitus has getten me into Themeing out my new account.

Iv made my Elemental Witchs. You know, the Four Corners?Earth, Air, Fire and Water?Iv been alternating between all of them ,and find them highly survivable, and extreemly fun. These are also builds that are more or less not played for whatever reason people give.

They are as follows - (Names will be replaced with what kind of Witch they are, followed by power combonations and AT.)

    Earth Witch - Earth/Earth Dom
    Air Witch - Storm/Elec Defender
    Fire Witch - Fire/Therm Corr
    Water Witch - Cold/Ice Defender

These 4 use as close as I can get to there acctual powers in this game,as well as how they looked as they where when I created them over 10 years ago for D&D when I was GM to give my players a challenge.

The names I gave them are the same as well.

Then I started just recently making 1 person, over and over again. The reason for this is that you cant change power sets in this game, but you can give the illusion of it by re-making a character with nearly the same look, if not the exact same look, and diffrent powers and playing it off as slipping into another Suit of Technology, ect.

I Made my Gadget man, who's name will also remain unspoken on the boards, like many do anyhow.

He has many various suits of technology. Each with a diffrent look then the other, as well as having diffrent abilities for each one. This character I made back when I was 14.He was originally a X-Wing Pilot in Star Wars I was playing, and over the years through writting stories on him, he evolved into a type of gadget making techno geek.

He has his first name on every one of his Clones, same face, hair color, ect.The only diffrence is his Tech suit look changes, along with his power sets and last name. This character is by far the easiest to put into CoX.By using Techy Suits, he can use whatever excuse I give him for whatever his powers are by just saying its technology and giving everyone a rassberry.(Rassberry is slang term for sticking your tonge out!)

The following have been made as techy suits for my Geek, and again the names will not be placed, instead what the suits called.

    Defensive Suit - SD/Axe Tanker
Reverse Cryo Suit - Ice/Ice Tanker
Fission Cell Suit - EM/EA Brute
    Tesla Suit - Elec/Elec Tanker

All again are rather fun, and I have no difficulty playing any of them.

As you can see, im a Fanatic in the opposite direction of most everyone else in why I play this game, and I could give tons more Examples but I think everyone gets the general Idea.
Except, that if you look around in this game, you'll find several people that do this exact thing.

I have a theme set of characters that are just 'shards' (for lack of a better word) of themselves. They're all Sprite, but they have different powersets.

    Sprite Night
    Sprite Might
    Sprite Fright
    Sprite Bright
    Sprite Blight
    ...and so on.

Westley keeps rerolling his force fielders over and over because he loves the set.

    Quote:
I maximize for Theme, not for max potential for 1 Combo specifically is where im comming from.

So I apologize for attacking people for there use of Mid's, and Cookie Builds. This is not a Attempt to be Snarky, or underhanded in any way.Im acctually Apologizing.
I hope my earlier explanation helps show you that mids and role playing are NOT at odds. It is players that might be at odds.

So who do you think was getting most of the kills and therefor the pvp recipes? The farmers! So then you cut down the drop rate. So who do you think is still getting the majority of the kills in pvp? The farmers! you have secured them as farmers in your attempt to stop them. Now players who don't have the influence to purchase purples or pvp recipes are only targets for the farmers to get more pvp recipes. I have ways of fixing this, unlike the suggestions here but I don't would be interested in hearing them because you seem to think that the system you have in place is doing it's job. WTF!

    I'm sorry, but I can't read this.

Exporting with the Fruit Salad color scheme tends to be the most friendly.
  10. Here's as close as I can get with those restrictions.

It's really hard to pull that off without purples. The build doesn't get the recharge bonuses, or the recovery bonuses, so sustaining that chain is going to be tough.
Enough of my complaining. Here's the build:

    88.8% Global Rech + 96.3% in followup = 185.1%

However, the attack chain runs around 4.8 EPS, and your net recovery is 2.88. You do have performance shifter in stamina. The big difference is that we don't have conserve power (or physical perfection), so I'm afraid your attack chain is non sustainable. So, you will NOT be soloing AV's with this build with that chain. Sorry.

    claws aaaand ??

Super Reflexes has been the traditional AV-soloing set for quite some time. The new benchmark is now shield, but does not pair with claws. (DM/SD being a good option for a brute to solo AVs)

Energy Aura would also be able to solo most AV's, though any AV that deals psi damage is a significant issue to that set.

Defense sets that go for the soft-cap and then focus on sustained attack chains are the most successful builds out there for soloing AVs.

Your WP can solo AVs if built correctly, but it takes some low-con minions around you to boost your regen and slotting for typed defenses.

I think a big issue here is aggression. Your posts are almost always passive aggressive, however every once in a while, it is simply aggressive. This stirs up other players, and then, you inexplicably disappear from the topic where the problem gets stirred up. People call that trolling. It is poor forum behavior. However, this isn't surprising from someone who stated that social norms are pointless.

Yes, I think you were somewhat baited by Schismatrix in that post, but your reaction to that post is significantly much more aggressive than what was needed, and you could have put it far, far better.

Anyway, I've said my share. Nobody likes being criticized, and I am calling you on your behavior, which probably annoys you.

I've said this before: You can be a very helpful person at times. However, you have this tendency to be a pompous jerk who thinks everyone should adopt your perceived counter-culture playstyle. You would be far more successful if you would drop the tone in your posts and simply try to be much more affable to everyone and most importantly - don't react to others that criticize you. If you walk away from an argument, it's kind of hard for someone to argue with you.

Which is puzzling, considering the entire point of i13 PvP was to make it more accessible to cheaper builds. Throwing a bunch of high-end shiny performance IO's is counter-productive to encouraging casual pvp, which appears to be the entire point of i13.

This is the only area where I feel the devs really aren't consistent in their actions.

If they were accessible it would help a lot. The dumbest thing they did was have sets work in PvE. Make them drop like candy and have them do nothing really in PvE, and it can be more about skill than who invests the most time in earning inf and farming PvP IO's.

The more obvious way is to simply remove the 10 min timer.

    Terrible.

Electric Melee is an AoE power set, and lacks the single target attack capability of other sets. It is great at killing lots of things at once, but if you're fighting a single bag of HP, other sets are a good idea. This is exactly why it's awful in PvP - you want single target damage because you'll be fighting people typically one at a time.

Electric Armor is a resist set. It reduces damage. A defense set completely eliminates damage. Fighting a single target, a 95% chance of missing is a heck of a lot better than a 60% reduction in damage.

So, for AV soloing, go defense.

It doesn't mean elec/elec is bad, it's just that it's great at AoEs, and those aren't so important for the role you seem to want.
  18. Before you salvage, check the market for the rates. Offhand, the oblits are a priority.

If you want to, use the dual build and start anew. Then respec and pull IO's off your other build if you need more inf.

In any case, for selling, the oblits come off first.

As long as that suggestion was a joke, I think I'm following you.

End Drain works alright for support classes like fenders and corrs, but for some reason end drain on brutes was nerfed to uselessness. You'll take maybe 20% off their blue bar with power sink, and you really don't have the -recov to drain their bar effectively. Even an elec/elec/mu sapper build isn't going to rock in PvP.

OP, you were informed. Don't come back and complain after IOing out an elec/elec and realizing it suxxorz for pvpee.

I am pretty sure that these problems frustrate and annoy the devs too. They have a lot of justifiable pride in their work so these things probably drive them absolutely warbonkers.
I'd be incredibly curious to see what lag valley did if phalanx fighting wasn't included on the mobs. Just give them another 8% def and call it a day, and call the power Phalags Fighting.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this simple change would really help that particular map.

I was running about 500 million profit a slot. Unfortunately, I'm away from the game because of time and network issues. As I still have a few listed, I'm not blowing that niche. Then again, since I'm not online, I have no idea if it's blown. It probably isn't.

Here's the only clue I'm giving. You could pay 100 mil to get it in a few weeks, or pay 150 mil to get it now. I guess technically I'm not pulling in 500 mil per, as I'm dealing with market fees.

Flipping Salvage is nice, but there are things out there that may not move quick, but when they do...WOW.

Second clue: Don't worry, they aren't the purples your warshade needs.

Yeah, I make that in an hour easy from just inf alone.

But there was a time when there weren't many players out there capable of doing this, and very few players out there willing to spend even 30 million inf. Now, even designing an effective 100 mil inf IO build is incredibly difficult when you start adding up salvage and crafting costs onto the recipes.

As Adeon already said, supply and demand.

If I had the inf I had two years ago, I would have bought every single purple on the market, but two years ago, I was just starting the game and 30 million seemed like a ton of inf, and IO'ing a single power for 150 million seemed absurd. Now, my apoc set I wanted redside was 1.5 bil to 5-slot, because I wanted it within 72 hours.

    Oh how times change.

Nothing has changed. Why is this such a big deal?
    This is pure, concentrated wrong.

PvP IO's haven't been around very long, so they are hardly a benchmark for anything. The only thing they prove is that when availability shrinks drastically, prices go WAY up.

Purples are the gold standard of the market. However, purple recipes used to sell for 30 million two years ago. They sell for ten times that now. There have been no real changes in the game to affect their drop rate, outside of the AE craze when normal content was nearly completely abandoned en masse.

Sometimes a change in the game does affect prices. For example, some rare salvage could spike to 6 mil before AE. Due to the ease of earning rare salvage through tickets, they have reduced in price.

However, the earning power of a 50 has been increased (bug fixed), and with the AE craze of insta-50's, a lot of new players had many 50's they could now earn inf with. Hence an explosion of earning potential.

Anyway, I mainly posted here for that opening sentence.

This link really helped me with my build, it makes it tight on electric because of good powers that do not take melee sets, but my invul brute is almost indestructible without unstop using the above guidelines.

Looks like you may need to think about 6 slotting multi-strikes into your PBAOE powers, but this switches from pure smash/lethal defense to typed (aoe and melee) so im thinking you may have to drop jacobs ladder for charged brawl to get your 3 sets of smashing haymaker or go with a couple kinetic combat in your melees (which includes chain induction!). You also need to get taunt in there somehow...

Brutes also have an added advantage in darkest night that paired with the uber defense=win.
The base numbers of tanks are not the same as brutes. I'm not a fan of that guide either, but that has to do with it lacking any real depth. It's great as a starter, but it is too rigid for my tastes.

Darkest Night is a great power, but it's a little too end heavy for the OP, especially since we're on a limited budget.

Taunt is not necessary for a brute. It's a nice tool, but it's unnecessary, especially for an AoE set like elec. If the OP wants, he can swap elec fences for taunt and use mocking beratement for taunt to maintain the same S/L def.
